You can tell cause many of the customers were full on conversation mode, staff saying hi as they walk in first names, felt really good to see community like that. Greeted me right away, very kind and professional. Looks old school inside lol, but good vibes. Food was really good, their veggie scramble, let's just say it has veggie in the name lol. Great assortment and plenty of them. Hashbrowns were crispy maybe a tad over board but I do appreciate no salt so I could add my own amount. Salsa's were both fantastic. I couldn't stay away .....had to find out if my beloved Silver Spur had come back to life after 11 years since my last review. I'm so glad that I did. Still had to wait for my food, but the wait was shorter and the staff was very attentive (especially since it was busy Sunday @ 1PM). Coffee was offered as soon as I sat down and it arrived hot and tasty. I ordered the South of the Border scramble because I wanted to see how fresh the avocado came out. The constant pounding that came from the kitchen for over 45 minutes when we were there after church today. (May 17th, 2026) I asked them to stop the pounding, and they said no, they were doing food prep! My opinion, they can pay an employee an extra hour to do the food prep after they close. A cute brunch/diner spot in Santa Cruz! The interior is very rustic but kept super clean. All of the staff were so nice. They were able to accommodate for our big group and bring out our orders fast. The prices are similar to many other diners but if you pay with cash, you don't have to pay a surcharge. The portions are huge as well. read more

My grandparents have been coming here since the 1970s, bringing me since I was a little kid. I don't think I've had a meal that's disappointed once. The Watsonville location is great, but the charm of the original can't be beat. From the pancakes to the omelets to the sandwiches and Mexican food-- it's fantastic. Some of my favorites: the chorizo scramble, their biscuits with extra butter and jam, and their burger. All of the waitresses and bussers are so kind and happy to please as well. Now that the Silver Spur will soon be moving to a new location (Oct 2026) as the old place will be torn down for housing units along with the antique store let's hope they will stay open for dinner at It's new spot. Bring on he meatloaf and mashed potatoes along with other comfort food favorites. The Santa Cruz area is lacking places like 'The Silver Spur'. The new location will be the former 'Jeffery's Restaurant' a few miles away now closed. It will be larger both inside and the parking area outside. Too bad the nice cowboy art on the side back wall will be lost. The medical clinic next door will love the new 'Spurs' location. It is so popular the new food place could be open 24/7 . read more

The good: I got a pancake breakfast (came with an egg and sausage or bacon option) and chicken sandwich with country fried potatoes and onions. I got the lemon poppyseed pancake special flavor. I came here for my birthday weekend and enjoyed the getaway from San Jose. The bad: The eggs were over easy rather than over medium. The high chair was a bit sticky and had crumbs on it. Expect to leave stuffed. I came here with 3 friends after running the Monterey Half Marathon. We shared an order of 4 pancakes (one per person) and each got our own dish. Pancake- large and fluffy. We got the special orange poppyseed pancakes and they were excellent. These are a must get. Western Omelette- I swapped the ham for sausage and to be honest the sausage was just okay. Maybe I should've switched to bacon? While the omelette was stuffed with onions, peppers, and sausage, the egg could've been seasoned more and the ingredients could've been incorporated better. Felt more like the omelette was created separately and the filling was sautéed and added afterwards. Hasbrowns- I got this as my side for my omelette. Was nice and crunchy, just wish they added more seasoning- adding some salt and peppers while cooking would go a long way. But I was able to season at the table and enjoyed Overall, a decent and filling breakfast. One friend got the country fried steak and another got the breakfast burrito. Both were incredibly full and very happy with their decisions. Ambiance was cute- had a rustic vibe that I liked. Oh My God! This hidden gem is a great place the locals come to have a fantastic meal. For service this place is friendly and helpful they are all kind and very happy to be here. THE FOOD!!!!!!!!! it's all about the fresh ingredients and the portions are huge cooked with love, so much flavor it's a mouth party. Upon entering, we were promptly seated, and the service was both efficient and welcoming, with the staff consistently making sure we had everything we needed, from refills to checking on our meals. The food itself was not only fresh but also served in generous portions. One thing that stood out was how well-maintained the restaurant and the restrooms were - so much so that my dad felt compelled to comment on their cleanliness. We came in for breakfast one Wednesday, and the dining room was surprisingly full, so we knew that this place must be good. We were seated right away and had time to look at the menu. We noticed a lot of unique twists to classic dishes like the pesto egg scramble. When we ordered, our food only seemed to take five minutes before it was in front of us. Surprisingly quick! I ordered the pesto scramble which was super tasty. They were not shy with the pesto sauce, and the scramble was loaded with the tomatoes and mushrooms. We also ordered the breakfast burrito which was absolutely huge and also very delicious. Both dishes were recommended to us by our waiter, and neither disappointed. The waiter and waitresses that served us were amazingly kind! If nothing else, the staff will definitely take good care of you and your table. As for the interior, it gives off a fun country vibe, with paintings for horses on the walls that I believe are available for purchase. Overall and great experience. We had a lot of fun trying this place, and got some good food out of it. While I wouldn't say the breakfast options are particularly drive out of your way amazing, it is definitely serving good food with a fun country vibe. I love welcoming, great service and here you'll find it in abundance plus all the breakfast, brunch and lunch items your heart desires. My son had an enormous breakfast of a short stack (poppyseed orange pancakes, a special and so delicious), eggs, three orders of sausage and fruit. I had the special of steak and eggs with a poppyseed pancake in lieu of home fries. The steak was cooked rare as ordered but the cut was a little dry. Our server was assisted by a young man who floated, refilling water and coffee cups, more napkins. There was never a moment where you lacked for anything. There was a line to be seated but it moved quickly. I took advantage by asking locals how long they'd been dining here ("forever, the food and service are so good and prices are reasonable.") Decor is homey and very clean. There are lots of tables for large parties and booths for two or four people. Private lot for easy parking. This is a dreamy diner of the old fashioned, family-run variety. I came here with my daughter early on a Saturday in the summer and we were seated at a spacious booth. The food here was fresh, flavorful, and overall delicious--definitely a great spot for breakfast. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying their lunch menu next time. The restaurant itself is charming but on the smaller side. Thankfully, they have a quick turnover, so the wait isn't too long. Just sign your name on the clipboard when you arrive and hang around the parking lot until they call you. The decor is exactly what you'd expect--rustic with a cowboy-country vibe, much like other country breakfast spots in the U.S. Now, onto the food! I ordered the breakfast burrito, which was fresh and enjoyable, but it seriously lacked seasoning. I couldn't tell if this was just their cooking style or if they were catering to their predominantly older, white clientele. Given that none of the staff were white, it was surprising that the flavors were so muted. Many non-white cultures incorporate bold spices, but this burrito had almost none. Thankfully, the salsa helped add some much-needed depth. Their only hot sauce option was red Tabasco--not my favorite--but I was desperate for some heat in this very "mild" breakfast burrito. The tortilla was soft but not grilled, though that's probably just a personal preference. The sour cream and salsa, served on a bed of cabbage, helped add more layers of flavor to an otherwise fresh but one-dimensional dish. We also tried the chicken-fried steak, which was solid. The meat was tender, the gravy was flavorful without being greasy, and the potatoes were well-cooked and seasoned. That said, the plating was a bit odd--the potatoes were placed underneath the steak, which we found a little strange. No big deal, just an unusual choice. While we'd order this dish again, it's not necessarily worth making a special trip for. The highlight of the meal, hands down, was the orange zest muffins. These homemade treats were the special of the day and absolutely incredible. We topped them with their house-made jam sauce, which was so good it took them to another level. While looking for hot sauce, we stumbled upon jars of this spread on the tables, and wow--what a delightful surprise! Just when I thought the muffins couldn't get any better, that jam proved me wrong. We are unsure what the flavor was exactly. Possibly raspberry, maybe a boysenberry. Either way, berry beery good! Get something that requires you to spread this one on your meal as a sweet palate cleanser in the end. You won't regret it! Overall, the food was fresh and satisfying, but if you prefer bold flavors, you might need to rely on their salsas and spreads to bring out the best in your meal. read more

We got eggs Benedict, pancakes and a meat omelette and hot chocolate. I asked if they had fresh juice they said no. The bread was wheat. The food was okay nothing to tell everyone about . It seemed like a local place not touristy but the portions and meat quality was great . I probably won't visit again as the harbor cafe was my first choice but was sooo packed we skipped it. Next time I will go to Harbor cafe and review that too. This place just didn't hit the spot for me personally. No specials or deals advertised and the price was little high for just brunch food. I haven't been back for a while and it does appear things have gone down hill. The sign out front says they're back to the original menu, but it seems like all the good stuff from the menu I remember has gone. I didn't know what menu they are referring to, very strange. No more orange poppy seed pancakes or Walnut Cinnamon Roll muffin. The service was ok, I asked for the biscuits and gravy to be served first so the table could share, but all of the food came out first then the biscus and gravy. Not good! We order: Orange Juice (4 stars) The orange juice was fresh squeezed, Nice touch! Half Biscuits and Gravy (2 Stars) They take one large biscuit and dump a bunch of clumpy gravy on top. They didn't take time to split the biscuit. The biscuit wasn't very good, was a like dense and too sweet. They gravy was clumpy, not smooth, not good. Chile Verde Omelette (3 Stars) The pork was not soft, it should be fall a part soft. They didn't put that much Chile Verde sauce on, barely cover the omelet. The sauce was decent, nothing special. The egg omelette was decent, it held everything together (cheese, chile verde with pork chucks), but not much seasoning. The hash browns (2 stars) were very thin and not crispy. There was no creamy potato middle. Country Fried Steak (2 stars) The steak was low quality, not crispy. It seem to be flat iron fried, instead of deep fried with a nice crust. The country gravy (2 stars) was clumpy, no smooth. Need more seasoning. They did bring out 2 salsas for the table Red Salsa (4 stars) The red brought the heat, good flavor, smooth puree Green salsa (5 Stars) Really good flavor, slightly less heat than the red.
