Wow wow wow! The food here is top notch, highly recommend taking a peak at the specials. I had an orange roll (which was kinda like a cinnamon roll or a muffins with orange in it) and it was baked to perfection. Crunchy on the outside and buttery soft on the inside. I also had the chicken apple scramble which was divine, a perfect balance of savory with that sweet apple sausage to balance it out. After hearing that Silver Spur was voted Best Breakfast in Santa Cruz, I knew we had to check it out while we were in the area. They have two locations--Watsonville and Santa Cruz--and we visited the Santa Cruz location. I also heard it's under new management, so I was excited to see what all the buzz was about. We arrived early for breakfast, but the restaurant was already packed. Every table was full, which is always a good sign! Even so, we only waited about 5 minutes before being seated, and everything moved quickly after that. The service was fantastic. Everyone was warm, welcoming, attentive, and our food came out surprisingly fast despite how busy they were. One thing I really liked was the daily specials board. There were several items that aren't on the regular menu, which made it hard to decide. I was especially tempted by the Orange Rolls and the Orange Poppy Seed Pancakes--they both sounded amazing--but I had been craving Eggs Benedict, so I stuck with that. I ordered the Chorizo Eggs Benedict with a side of fresh fruit, and it absolutely hit the spot. The chorizo added a nice kick without overpowering the dish, the eggs were perfectly poached, and everything was rich, flavorful, and satisfying. The portion size was huge, and choosing fruit instead of hash browns ended up being the right call because I was completely full by the end of the meal. I didn't get to try the hash browns, but my partner did and couldn't stop talking about how crispy and delicious they were. Overall, I can absolutely see why this place has earned such a great reputation. The food at silver spur is always fantastic. I had ordered the turkey avocado scramble and subbed the turkey for sausage. So good! Their home fries are my favorite! Big cuts of potato and onion and perfectly seasoned. I also ordered their homemade muffin and it was delicious. It was almost the consistency of a crescent roll but more firm. Not overly sweet either. I didn't care much for the chai latte. That may just be a personal preference though. The service is always great. The staff is super attentive and very kind to all of their customers. It can be a little bit of a struggle to get a table in the morning if it's busy but service is quick so it usually doesn't take very long to get a table when I've gone :) It's clean and kept well inside. I have never had an issue with cleanliness. It has a very homestyle vibe. I did hear that they may be moving to a new location in the future so this review is based on the Soquel location. You can tell cause many of the customers were full on conversation mode, staff saying hi as they walk in first names, felt really good to see community like that. A cute brunch/diner spot in Santa Cruz! The interior is very rustic but kept super clean. All of the staff were so nice. They were able to accommodate for our big group and bring out our orders fast. I couldn't stay away .....had to find out if my beloved Silver Spur had come back to life after 11 years since my last review. I'm so glad that I did. Still had to wait for my food, but the wait was shorter and the staff was very attentive (especially since it was busy Sunday @ 1PM). Coffee was offered as soon as I sat down and it arrived hot and tasty. I ordered the South of the Border scramble because I wanted to see how fresh the avocado came out. My grandparents have been coming here since the 1970s, bringing me since I was a little kid. I don't think I've had a meal that's disappointed once. The Watsonville location is great, but the charm of the original can't be beat. From the pancakes to the omelets to the sandwiches and Mexican food-- it's fantastic. Some of my favorites: the chorizo scramble, their biscuits with extra butter and jam, and their burger. All of the waitresses and bussers are so kind and happy to please as well. I'm not a techy person so I hope this review finds the owner well. I have been coming to the Spur for years, ever since Linda owned it. I love the new ownership because the food tastes as fresh as when Linda was in shop. I usually only come in on the weekends and the service and food is always on point. BUT I had came in during the week since I was in the area running a couple of errands. Very different. My waiter was great but there was someone walking around who made my experience unpleasant. I'm enjoying my food then this lady showed up and took my plate in front me when I was not finished. She did not ask if she can take my plate, she just took it. I look around and she's doing it to the surrounding tables as well. Left me feeling rushed and you can clearly see she was rushing the surrounding tables. I stopped her and asked her how did she know I was finish with my plate? I don't think she knows much english since she just looked at me, smiled then walked away. I asked a waiter who she was and it turns out she's related to the owner. You would think as a relative to the owner you would go beyond with customer service. Not rushing people and making them feel like you're not wanted there. When walking out, I was walking out with another group and they felt the same. Safe to say I will never go during the week anymore and stick with the weekend. Very disappointed. read more

Expect to leave stuffed. I came here with 3 friends after running the Monterey Half Marathon. We shared an order of 4 pancakes (one per person) and each got our own dish. Pancake- large and fluffy. We got the special orange poppyseed pancakes and they were excellent. These are a must get. Western Omelette- I swapped the ham for sausage and to be honest the sausage was just okay. Maybe I should've switched to bacon? While the omelette was stuffed with onions, peppers, and sausage, the egg could've been seasoned more and the ingredients could've been incorporated better. Felt more like the omelette was created separately and the filling was sautéed and added afterwards. Hasbrowns- I got this as my side for my omelette. Was nice and crunchy, just wish they added more seasoning- adding some salt and peppers while cooking would go a long way. But I was able to season at the table and enjoyed Overall, a decent and filling breakfast. One friend got the country fried steak and another got the breakfast burrito. Both were incredibly full and very happy with their decisions. Ambiance was cute- had a rustic vibe that I liked. Upon entering, we were promptly seated, and the service was both efficient and welcoming, with the staff consistently making sure we had everything we needed, from refills to checking on our meals. The food itself was not only fresh but also served in generous portions. One thing that stood out was how well-maintained the restaurant and the restrooms were - so much so that my dad felt compelled to comment on their cleanliness. I love welcoming, great service and here you'll find it in abundance plus all the breakfast, brunch and lunch items your heart desires. My son had an enormous breakfast of a short stack (poppyseed orange pancakes, a special and so delicious), eggs, three orders of sausage and fruit. I had the special of steak and eggs with a poppyseed pancake in lieu of home fries. The steak was cooked rare as ordered but the cut was a little dry. Our server was assisted by a young man who floated, refilling water and coffee cups, more napkins. There was never a moment where you lacked for anything. There was a line to be seated but it moved quickly. I took advantage by asking locals how long they'd been dining here ("forever, the food and service are so good and prices are reasonable.") Decor is homey and very clean. There are lots of tables for large parties and booths for two or four people. Private lot for easy parking. We came in for breakfast one Wednesday, and the dining room was surprisingly full, so we knew that this place must be good. We were seated right away and had time to look at the menu. We noticed a lot of unique twists to classic dishes like the pesto egg scramble. When we ordered, our food only seemed to take five minutes before it was in front of us. Surprisingly quick! I ordered the pesto scramble which was super tasty. They were not shy with the pesto sauce, and the scramble was loaded with the tomatoes and mushrooms. We also ordered the breakfast burrito which was absolutely huge and also very delicious. Both dishes were recommended to us by our waiter, and neither disappointed. The waiter and waitresses that served us were amazingly kind! If nothing else, the staff will definitely take good care of you and your table. As for the interior, it gives off a fun country vibe, with paintings for horses on the walls that I believe are available for purchase. Overall and great experience. We had a lot of fun trying this place, and got some good food out of it. While I wouldn't say the breakfast options are particularly drive out of your way amazing, it is definitely serving good food with a fun country vibe.
