We've walked by this spot many times and decided to finally try it on a recent Friday morning. We got an "early" start because we've heard this place fills up and were able to get our choice of outdoor tables at about 9 am. We brought our dog, who was welcome outside, but keep in mind that if you have a large dog or one who likes to sniff everyone in the surrounding area, you might want to leave them at home as it's close quarters there. Coffee was delicious and they kept the refills coming. We ordered the Capitola Chaos after seeing many positive reviews, and The Avenue (eggs scrambled with feta, artichoke, and tomato). We just finished camping at New Brighton Beach campgrounds over the weekend. Before heading home we decided to eat breakfast at a local cafe in Capitola about 10-15 minutes away from the campgrounds. We arrived at Avenue Cafe on a Sunday morning for breakfast recently. The cafe is located in a nice area down the street from Capitola Beach in downtown Capitola. Paid parking is accessible along the streets and the parking lot across the street. Avenue Cafe is a small, family friendly, local neighborhood cafe. There is a mom and pops vibe to it. The cafe space looks like it was formally a house. They did a great job transforming the space into a nice cozy cafe. The outdoor patio looks inviting. We ordered a mimosa, coffee, country fried steak with sunny side up eggs, smoked salmon avocado eggs Benedict, and an eggs combo with pancakes & bacon. Everything was delicious. The breakfast definitely hit the spot after a long weekend camping. My country fried steak was scrumptious with every bite. The gravy was hearty. The fried potatoes were crispy and tasty. Our son said his pancakes combo was yummy. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Avenue Cafe. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The bustling local neighborhood environment was wonderful. We found a hidden local gem brunch place in Capitola. It was close to downtown. A cute little house turned into a restaurant. Cozy ambiance. Can seat 2-4 people at a table. Large groups may need to be seated outside. Our son ordered 2 pancakes & 2 sunny side up eggs. I ordered smoked salmon Benedict and hubby ordered Country Fried Steak. Everything was delicious. Cute and cozy restaurant on the corner with outdoor covered patio. Decided to stop here passing through on our way up north because of the great reviews. Service is FANTASTIC! We were immediately greeted and seated on a Saturday morning. The staff is friendly and checked on us several times. Food is tasty and came out pretty FAST. French toast andwas fluffy, sausage links were plump n juicy. Turkey avocado omelette was pretty tasty too! Parking was tough for us but one of the servers told us you can park across the street for free at the olive station for 2 hours. Not knowing beforehand we parked quite w ways down the street. There were quite a few red flags: * it's a tiny place, but half the tables had stuff on them... rolled up floor mats, bins full of jam, boxes... it looked like they were moving in? or out? * the table next to me complained that their sandwich was missing components and the waiter had to literally read the menu because he didn't know what was supposed to be on the sandwich... * my plate was dirty :( * the OJ in my mimosa was the cheap, from concentrate, not good kind of OJ * the fruit in my fruit cup was bruised and not fresh (or sweet) * the waiter forgot to refill our waters and iced teas (same thing happened to the table next to us) * the portions were really small * it was the first breakfast joint we've visited in the area that didn't serve fresh salsa with their mexican breakfast * it was a prime location, but the vibe was just terrible read more

If I could leave a 0 I would. This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. I don't leave reviews, but I wish I would have read this before I ate there. We received undercooked eggs (the whites were still clear), and when we drew attention to it - no apologies, they just flipped over the eggs and gave them back to us. Our waiter disappeared, and we had to ask multiple times for water. They completely forgot an item we ordered, but by that point we did not want it. There was a hair in my sour cream. Nothing we ordered tasted good. The French toast was not French toast, it was toast soaked on one side, and the eggs and potatoes were flavorless. This is such a cute and quaint cafe. Discovered it on Yelp while visiting Capitola and am so glad we decided to check it out. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and my wife had the Breakfast Burrito. Both were phenomenal and we both were beyond satisfied with our selections. I also love how fast and attentive the service was. We were really hungry when we arrived, so we truly appreciated how fast we were seated and received our food. We always walk by here when going to Capitola downtown and this cafe always has a long line. This time on a Saturday noon time, the place was actually not busy , so we decided to try it. We both ordered the NY steak and eggs special. Mine with over easy eggs and my boyfriend's with scrambled eggs. We had high hopes but the meat quality was very poor. We couldn't eat it at all. The steak was nicely grilled but the meat was so chewy and tough! There was no seasoning whatsoever, not even a bit of salt to enhance the flavor. My boyfriend said it was not consumable for humans. Hash brown was very good and crispy. Eggs were cooked to perfection . Service also didn't have a clue that we didn't touch the steak and didn't ask why. In a word: OBSESSED. We stopped here spontaneously while on a road trip and cannot express enough how happy we are to have found it! We came in on a Saturday around lunch and snagged one of the last free tables. Every staff member was super attentive and quickly gave us menus, water, and coffee. We love to ask for staff favorites off the menu and multiple people offered their input. Every dish that passed us looked incredible and we made a list of items to try the next time we come in. I ended up ordering the tuna sandwich with a side salad and it was amazing. I wanted to come back for another the next day! My husband ordered the huevos rancheros and he said they were standard and good. He LOVED the side of hash browns he ordered. Those were his favorite part! My favorite part of this restaurant was the atmosphere. It's a tiny converted house, so the kitchen is right next to you (if dining inside). You get a great view of all the delicious dishes being made. It's a little noisy, but it's top-notch vibes. So many of the customers were regulars. When the door opened, staff would greet them by name and the customers would ask staff where they were the day prior, etc. That's the kind of restaurant I want to eat at for the rest of my life--end of story. Atmosphere: small and kind of cute cafe with a kitchen next to the dining area. Service: prompt. We arrived for lunch on a Sunday around 12 pm and they seated the 5 of us immediately. The servers came to take our drink and food orders quickly. The food also came out pretty quickly. Unfortunately my order was slightly off but I didn't mind too much since I shared another dish with my sister. They came to clear our plates and provide the check at an efficient pace but we didn't feel rushed at all. Food: We ordered the turkey& avocado benedict, smoked salmon& avocado benedict, the chorizo& avocado benedict, short stack of blueberry pancakes with extra fruits and a shrimp salad with vinaigrette. To be honest, all the food seemed like pretty basic cafe food, nothing special. One of the pancakes were burned on one side and tasted like Bisquick mix. The smoked salmon was cooked which was unexpected to me (but fine that it was cooked), just very salty. The turkey was 1/4 inch thick and pretty tough. The hollendaise sauce was creamy but tasted not quite like hollendaise. Overall I'd give the food a 2.5, but the service was good. If you're looking to eat breakfast out and want something kind of quick and simple then this is a cozy spot but it's nothing crazy or special. read more

Cute and quaint cafe in the Capitola Village with great service and a huge Benedict selection! As soon as we walked up we were greeted with big smiles and friendly service. We went fairly early on a Sunday morning and we're able to be sat inside immediately. After looking at the extensive eggs Benedict selection, I think there were 8 different options, we finally decided on the bacon and avocado Benedict. The beautiful pictures of it on Yelp helped made the decision a lot easier! We also ordered a short stack of blueberry pancakes so we could share the two meals and have sweet and savory. The food came up extremely fast, within about 5-7 minutes. Food was hot and fresh. There was no skimping on the bacon and there was the perfect amount of avocado on the Benedict. Blueberry pancakes were also nice and big and had the perfect amount of blueberries in them. Everything was good! The hash browns could've used a little more flavor, but that was an easy fix with some salt and pepper. The building is fairly small so there isn't a ton of seating inside, but they definitely make do with the space. I didn't get the chance to check out the outside patio, but could see a little bit of it from the window and it looked fairly small but cute! If you're in the mood for breakfast, this is the spot. Their menu has plenty of all the essential: pancakes, eggs benedict, omelets, breakfast burritos, bacon and sausages. Everyone in our party enjoyed our food. The service however, was so-so. There were 2 guys working there on a Saturday. The shorter guy was really nice and friendly, but the taller guy was a bit icy. Of course, we got the taller guy. He made us feel like we were inconveniencing him whether we asked for something, so that dampened our experience a little. Also, the water glasses were tiny, and our server never came to refill them even though the place was almost empty.
