Great little spot to pick up some affordable booze, delicious poke and all your hawaiian trinket needs! I was staying down the street at a friends condo and Whalers was super convenient, had great hours and super friendly service. The poke selection is impressive, fresh and delicious if you're wanting to pack something for the beach. I was also surprised to see such affordable wines and a great selection to boot! When you pass this place on the highway, just around Kahana, it looks just like the Mini Mart for a gas station, but oh no... You would be wrong to assume such a thing. Walk through the doors and you will find EVERYTHING you could possibly need and some that you don't need, but you'll suddenly want. - Hot AND Cold pre-made foods, ranging from chicken nuggets to Spam Musubi (if you don't like Spam, get the hell off my island) and sandwiches & salads. Saimin? Maybe. - Candy, Nuts, Gum, Drinks, and all the other items you'd find at a mini mart. - Sunchairs - Umbrellas - Coolers - Watches - Shirts - Little Bosnian children. Oh wait... I think I dreamt that. Scratch that. - Every sunscreen under the sun - Glasses (RX and sunglasses) - Dashboard Hula Girl - Necklaces, Earrings and Hairpins - Flavors of Macadamia nuts that you may have never heard of. - Jewelry boxes - Snow globes - And all sorts of other nifty trinkets and knick-knacks. So, why not a fifth star? Because, yes, it's a bit pricey. If you thought shopping at a store that doubles as a gas station mini-mart was gonna be cheap, you thought wrong, friend. This is more like an ABC store, but a little smaller than most ABCs, and attached to a gas station. It really rocks socks! I can't even begin to describe how excited I was by Whalers' huge bin of 6 for $20 tee-shirts. They carried children's sizes through XXXL in a variety of colors with Maui and Hawaii references printed on them (island maps, surfing, whale watching, hang loose signs, hibiscus flowers, turtles, hula dancers, etc.). We bought 12 - most of them for ourselves, and a few of them as "all I got was this lousy shirt" gifts. I also found Whalers to be an excellent place to buy random items we needed, such as snacks (pre-cut melon for $2 per little bucket), birthday candles (cashier gave me free matches), insulated soft-sided bags ($5 each - leaked a little when we put ice directly in, but I don't think that was the intended use) and coconut bras (because everyone needs a coconut bra, especially at 20% off ABC Store prices). When you hit $40 in purchases, you get a free plastic tote bag covered in hawaiian phrases. Practically every group on our flight home was carrying one. We were staying just across the street, so this was the best location for us, and seemed to be better stocked than many others. Some of the local condos/resorts that are within walking distance of this particular Whalers include Valley Isle Resort, Sands of Kahana, Outrigger Royal Kahana, Kahana Reef Association and Kahana Village. read more

Why is this store rated so highly? Overpriced everything. It's a big convenience store and the prices reflect that. So glad I went to Napali Market which has much better prices. As a Maui first timer I recommend skipping altogether and going somewhere else for anything other than a walking distance stop. read more

we stayed at a condo walking distance and this was a nice spot for us. we were able to get poke for a quick lunch and the bf even was able to get musubi for my breakfast at 630am so i wouldn't have to cook but get my spam and eggs on. lots of basics and souvenir shopping. also gas fill up when you too! read more

Overpriced! You can find just about anything they have for less at other touristy shops and the ABC store. That being said it does have a good selection of snacks, food, drinks, beer/wine/liquor and touristy items. It was clean and had friendly service. But my first stop was always ABC store cause it was certainly cheaper for the exact same stuff. read more

Best Poke ever. Foodland and Napili Market used to be my go to. Then I tried the fresh Wasabi Poke here. OMG so good, its amazing! Store is also nice and clean and easy to run in and out of. Saw some complaints on price, its literally a convenient store, duh. If you are looking to grocery shop then head to Times. But this place is perfect when you need a few items here and there. My parents live across the street, I find myself here almost everyday when I am visiting. read more

I'm giving this place a 4 instead of a 5 only because I've tried the musubi there and not anything else. This is my first time having musubi and I bought a spam one as well as a chicken teriyaki one. The spam one was terrific but I have to say that I really love the chicken teriyaki one. The prices were ok -- it was around $2.50 for the chicken one and a little cheaper for the spam. Passionate Musubi Lovers: 5 stars for amazing musubi! I've searched the island for a better spam musubi (yes, I did a Tour de Musubi... as in a musubi every day for two weeks) to no avail! Years ago, the lady working there told us her "secret ingredient", and since then spam musubis around the island aren't the same without it! The chicken musubi isn't bad either, although I can't compare it to anything else as I've never eaten it elsewhere. They're usually sold out by late morning though, so hurry! Although... This used to be my favorite place to go for poke bowls. However lately they have gotten real stingy. They used to give a decent amount of rice and poke. Lately the poke amount has been getting less and less. Today I ordered half poke, half tako. The young guy behind the counter tells me it will cost a dollar more. Excuse me? Its says on the menu any poke of your choice. There is nothing about an up charge for Tako. I could see the girl behind the counter make a comment about it to him, but he told her that was the way it is. I get my bowl and not only was there not very much poke but the rice wasnt even half the bowl. Really? Rice is cheap! Why I paid the extra dollar is a mystery. There was no way I got a full 1/3 pound serving. The manager of the store dished me up a poke bowl once and it was more than what this kid gave me. I used to go here at least twice a week for lunch but now I am rethinking it. It's hardly worth the money anymore. Sad. The only reason I gave 2 stars is the poke is still good. read more

Bought few goodies from the store, spicy ahi, kimchee shrimp, lilikio cake and classic fresh made pita bread and etc, everything taste super fresh and good. Store is clean and bright,btw all the stuff I bought are good price,not anything like in the hotel area more expensive than usual. read more
