Whales Tale is a much needed casual food spot right over the bridge near Dune road where the old 78 Fosters used to be. They have a killer happy hour from 3-6 during the week where pretty much every drink is heavily discounted, plus a Taco Tuesday menu for some cheap tacos. I'd come in for happy hour a few weeks ago and this time wanted to have some of the food. We kicked things off with a dozen oysters which were incredibly fresh and delicious, and an order of queso dip that was just the right amount of spicy, served with plenty of chips for the whole table. The tacos were just alright -- for 8-9 bucks each they are pretty big, but none of the ones we got (cauliflower, spare rib, chicken and salmon poke). Service was friendly and as prompt as they could be at the height of the Friday dinner rush. There was also live music which really added to the ambiance of this place. It's located on the canal with outdoor tables on the patio, but even some of the indoor tables get a nice view of the sunset and water depending on where you're sitting. They have a deal going where if you post Whales Tale and tag them on Instagram they'll give you 10% off your bill which was a decent discount since there were four of us here eating and drinking.

Beautiful waterside place, really excellent food and friendly service. Steak nachos, Hot Honey Chicken tacos & a bacon cheeseburger are all pictured & all excellent. Great drink selection too!

Excited to see a place that will last in this spot! The outdoor deck is nicely set-up. Inside they have created a bright, open and airy space that makes you feel like you are outside. There is a cute beer garden area with cornhole and a tv outside under the deck. Now to the food- tacos are superb. Big shoutout to the Bacon Cheeseburger Taco. The Bang Shrimp Taco was ok, but overloaded with lettuce and pico so you couldn't really taste the shrimp. We also really enjoyed the BBQ Chicken quesadilla. It had just the right amount of BBQ sauce. Service is spotty depending on who waits on you, definitely needs improvement.

Every Thursday: 50% off draft beers and appetizers. Yes, you read that right--half off taps and apps. You're welcome. The Scene: Imagine the most breathtaking sunset you've ever seen, enjoyed from a string-lit patio with fire pits, yard games like cornhole, and a warm, dog-friendly atmosphere. Big kudos to Whales Tale for welcoming my lil' puppy... something another place in the area didn't allow. (Lookin' at you, John Scott's.) Bang Bang Shrimp: Absolutely outstanding. Spicy, crispy, saucy, and perfectly prepared--no tails, just flavor. We loved it so much we ordered a second to-go. One of the best shrimp dishes we've had, hands down. Street Bowl (Unofficially called "Fiesta Bowl"): A hearty bowl with steak, plantains, and a Mexican-style cheese blend. While the concept was solid, the cheese fell a little short. Swapping in Oaxaca or queso fresco (both already on the menu) could take it to the next level. Mussels: This was my first time trying mussels, and they were a game-changer. The broth was incredibly flavorful and served with warm pita bread. The portion size was generous--easily 20+ mussels served in oversized square bowls. We all loved them and would order again without hesitation. Fries: Perfectly crispy and delicious. Definitely worth adding to your order. Elote con Queso: This was a cheesy dip with crispy tostadas rather than the traditional street corn dish we thought it was going to be. Tasty for what it was, though a bit different than what we expected. Dragon Bowl with Poke Salmon protein: I customized this with quinoa, crispy onions, and cilantro (ingredients already on the menu elsewhere), and it turned out fantastic. As someone who is vegetarian, I really appreciated how fresh and clean the bowl tasted. My only suggestion? Please offer brown rice as a substitute for white rice. It's a healthier option that many guests--myself included--would love to see. Drinks: There's a wide range of draft and bottled beer options not listed online, so rest assured you'll have plenty to choose from. We even received a complimentary beer due to a small mix-up with our order. Shoutout to Ann, Ann, and Olivia-with-an-A for the top-tier service! Service & Atmosphere: The staff were incredibly friendly and made us feel truly welcome. The outdoor patio has a relaxed and inviting vibe, perfect for groups or a casual date night. Restrooms: Single-occupancy, so be prepared to wait during busy hours. Additional Tips: If you're dining outdoors, bring an extra layer or two--it gets chilly in the evening, and there were no outdoor heaters during our visit. We would have stayed longer but just got too cold. Also, a heads-up: gas prices in Hampton Bays are steep, so consider fueling up before you arrive. What Will Bring Us Back: That patio sunset, live music, Bang Bang Shrimp, vegetarian options, friendly people, dog-friendly service, the overall vibe, the low-lighting. Whales Tale, we love what you're doing. We'll be back soon--and we're bringing our friends and family with us. Thank you! You rock.

Shared dinner here with family and it was a nice time! Great seating options on the deck or inside and a standard selection of bar food with a seafood emphasis. The tacos, nachos, and burger were all good! Nothing too memorable but not bad either! What's really nice is they also have a little shop attached to the restaurant with snacks, beach things, and alcohol. We grabbed a bottle of Hampton Water rose that was great!

A hidden gem for regular people in Hampton Bays in a sea of either terrible resrurants that are over priced or fancy resturants that have put priced most locals . I had the fried fish taco and the tuna taco . Both were very good amd great sized portions . Service was fantastic and its still got those water vibes .

When you first arrive, you can tell it's a place that primarily caters to locals, which is a nice change of pace during the summer pilgrimage of out of towners. The bar itself is relatively small, but the bar staff are quick on their delivery. For food, we shared a dozen oysters that were without a doubt fresh and reasonably priced. We had the fluke fish tacos that were some of the best fish tacos I've ever tried, as well as their seasonal special - buffalo chicken soft shell crab (soft shell crab fried like buffalo chicken nuggets, that include a side of buffalo sauce). The food was excellent! We went on a Saturday night and they had live music. The place wasn't overly crowded and it was a really great for a summer date. I definitely recommend checking out the Station Bar if you're in the area, or even taking the ride just to enjoy some fresh seafood and a couple of beers while sitting on the canal.

Any time I'm here on a busy night I'm always shocked at how one small bar (and I'm assuming tiny kitchen) manage to get everyone fed and served. I will say that depending on what kind of night you go here (especially during the summer) you're probably going to experience a bit of a wait to get a drink -- and may not even find yourself a seat for quite some time. But the crowd here is some of the nicest I've encountered. If someone sees you standing and are about to head out, they'll not only give you the heads up, but also introduce you to everyone else they were sitting around so that you feel welcomed in. A nice spot to grab a drink during sunset in the warmer months.

I was game and called the restaurant regarding their happy hour times and was told by the hostess that they do not have a happy hour per se but their bar menu is always available and of course there is lunch and dinner and they always have live music. It is a little off the beaten path and is located in an enclave of restaurants on the water i n Hampton Bays. We walked in and were greeted by the hostess. It is an impressive sized space divided into two sections, a bar area where the live music was playing with seating at the bar and some booth seating and opposite this a larger circular dining room with tables for four and six people overlooking the water. We were seated and menus and a wine list was provided. Our waiter was Joseph Z. He was pleasant, the accommodating and efficient. Our drink orders were taken-a Corona beer for my brother and I ordered a Negroni. We gave our meal orders at the same time. My brother ordered the seafood pasta with a side of French fries-[not shoestring-these looked hand cut] and I ordered the sea scallops and a side of asparagus. The meals arrived shortly and we dug in. My brother enjoyed his food [the French fries looked very appealing] My substantally sized scallops were delicious and cooked perfectly. They were sitting on a bed of mashed potatoes, diced peppers and some greens. The asparagus were cooked well, crisp and very tasty. After our meal and some time to digest, we looked at the dessert menu. My brother opted for the tirami su and I was initially looking at the creme brulee but I had had this recently at another restaurant and then decided on the mixed berry crumble. After taking one bite of the mixed berry crumble, I new it I made the right choice. The dessert came out hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top and alongside, a small vat of whipped cream and one of additional mixed berries. This dessert was outstanding. To cap this experience, I ordered a cup of espresso. In summary, the restaurant is clean and well maintained [the restroom as well] The staff is polite and the service is quick. We were there on Mother's Day weekend [Friday] and it is not an inexpensive meal, comparable to what I would have paid for a similar meal in New York City. However, it was well worth the money. It was an experience. I would strongly recommend and I hope to return soon.

The restaurant is huge and always busy. They have two levels, and while I prefer sitting upstairs, both spaces are great. This time, I tried their New England Clam Chowder for the first time, and it was phenomenal. There wasn't a grain of sand to be found, and it was absolutely loaded with meaty, perfectly cooked, tender clams. The flavor was unforgettable. It managed to be creamy without feeling heavy. You know when a chowder leaves a thick coating of cream in your mouth that lingers long after each bite? This wasn't like that at all, and it was perfect. I also enjoyed the Caesar salad. I've seen it presented this way before, and while it does put a little more work on the diner, it's really not a big deal to use a fork and knife. The lettuce was crisp and cold, the dressing tasted homemade, and the crouton crumble was a game changer. I decided to add the seared blackened scallops, and they were cooked perfectly. The upcharge was a little more than I would have liked for the amount, but it was worth it. After all, who doesn't love a scallop straight from Montauk? That scallop traveled less to get to my plate than I did to get to Hampton Bays. The drinks were festive, the wine was cold, and the atmosphere was lively. It's the perfect place to bring friends and family and have a great time.
