Got settled in, had a couple drinks and then waited an hour and a half for the meal that was never served. Called on the manager got no response, then went looking for the manager and ended up getting lip out of the kitchen staff. Had a great time today for lunch with a friend. Was wanting to get out there for lunch after seeing the daily specials that managers post. Wharf is friendly, and welcoming in its simplicity. Kat was an excellent bartender who knew the specials and about the beers for my flights. Isle of Wheat, Easy Jack and Toasted Lager are keepers; pass on the Pagan pale. Soup was a broth with chicken and potatoes that was solid. The lunch special was a tasty shredded chicken sandwich on a fresh roll. Half came home to enjoy later. Fries were really good, especially with the cheese topping. A bit of a drive for us, and well worth it to get good and friendly service, solid food, and a fine selection of beer. read more

Great place! We very much enjoyed our crabcake sandwiches, and the ambience is excellent! I appreciated the half pint tap beer-a full pint or even a 12 ounce pour would've been too much at midday. I had the Outage IPA- A very robust beer with a great taste, but not excessively hoppy. The service was very good. Our waitress was consistently courteous and attentive. She answered all our questions knowledgeably and professionally. We waited about 20 minutes for our three sandwiches, which seemed a little long for lunch, but the dining room was quite crowded, so the kitchen was being kept very busy. A great casual dining experience. The Wanimal burger was grilled to perfection No one left hungry with the large servings and all enjoyed their food evident by the empty plates. The variety of quality draft beer made the dining experience much better. The environment was very interesting with the history of the building and all the recycled products used to build a great dining experience. Take the time to walk around and read the plaques. I am a consultant and have a client in the area. I end up being in Smithfield for a couple weeks at a time every couple months or so. This is by far my favorite restaurant in the area. We were very excited about a new brewery in town, but must say we were a bit disappointed. The atmosphere of this restaurant is fantastic and very well done, but that is where it stopped for us. The food was mediocre with nothing too astonishing. However, what made it worse was the lack of front-of-house organization. The night we were there it seemed like a free-for-all rather than the normal organized chaos one can usually expect of the restaurant world. Our server did the best with what she had, unfortunately it just wasn't enough. The management was downright rude and it seems to us that they are getting a pass since it is the only restaurant of its kind in this area. Luckily for us, there are plenty of other enjoyable places with polite service and excellent food for us to visit. As for Wharf Hill, we will not be back. read more

The food is great, but you have to get the timing right at this place. It's a bar and restaurant without much separation, which can leave it unreasonably loud if it gets too busy. I was also told the noise level has to do with the wood paneling on the walls; cool aesthetic but no sound absorption. We have been here several times since we are locals. Love the cozy atmosphere with the wood and all. Everyone has always been very nice and service good. My bf likes the beer selection I have to eat gluten free (Celiac Disease, not bc trendy) and they have a couple of items I can eat. I usually get the Airline Chicken, which has a nice white sauce on it with tarragon I believe. You get 2 pieces that are good sized. The famous pork skins are always good with the secret seasoning on them. My only complaints would be more parking and more gluten free items. The pub may be busy, but that is a good thing for a new place! I love to go for the appetizers and beer....the Non Won Tons are the BEST!!! I can't get enough of them! The tuna bites and onion rings. ..soo good. The Fried Green Tomatoes are in the sides menu, but you can order as an appetizer as well...yummy! My girls love the Chicken Salad sandwich (they share, it is sizeable!). Hubby enjoyed his hambuger (again sizeable). If you like onion rings, its worth the upgrade price! Lee, the owner is awesome..very hands on and sociable and wanting to give you a great experience. The staff is as attentive as they can be with it being so busy. I think because it's a small town, Everyone talks highly of it because it's a new establishment. Quite frankly, I was disappointed with the overall visit. Here are my pros and cons: PROS: Lee the owner is a very nice guy. You are a person not a seat number when sitting at the bar. The decor is very, and I mean Very well done! CONS: It was very busy so space in the bar area is extremely limited. Some of the beers were a bit pricy. For a brewery, they didn't have any of their beers on tap. That was disappointing. We had an elderly gentleman with us and he needed a seat, so until our table was ready in the dinning room, we sat at a table in the bar area. The server for that table came by, approached us as if we were going to be dinning at that table. We explained we were waiting for a bigger table and would only be here for a few minutes. (this was after we stood at the bar for about 45 minutes waiting for our table) She seamed very distraught and irritated that we took her table and walked away with a bit of attitude. I've been a server before and I know that table is how you pay your bills, I know this! Well, I put in our table reservation at 6:20 and we didn't get sat until 7:30, was told it would only be 25 minutes. So we were at her table for about 20 minutes. There was no other wait for a table at this time but ours since it was a larger party. Once our table was ready I left money on the table for her. Man, she snatched it up so quickly and didn't even thank me. She did nothing for our table to justify the cash I left for her but she didn't care. It was as though she felt it was owed to her. Once we got our table in the dinning room, we all ordered right away since we had plenty of time to look over the menu. It took the kitchen 45 minutes to send out our meal. We were all starving by then. The only thing that held us over was the complimentary corn bread. I ordered the chicken pot pie. I was good however the portion size was very small for $10 and change. I'm glad my daughter filled up on cornbread and I was able to finish her grilled cheese. I also added the noodles as my side adding alfredo sauce to it as an alternative if my child wasn't into the grilled cheese. It was very dry and I mean dry. The locals we were with were just raving about the place. But then again, It's Smithfield, and really, there are not but a handful of semi decent places to eat ( the station, wharf hill, annas and the inn). So anything new is amazing to them. I'll be back, if grilling out isn't an option at the in-laws house. Overall, the experience was nothing more than a generous portion of 3 stars. Get there when it's not busy and you might have a better experience. Call before you go to check if they have any of their own beers on tap if you are a beer geek like me. read more

We loved eating here! We were visiting from out of town and walked here after doing some shopping. The atmosphere is amazing, with bits of the tester aunt taken from places around town (like old church pews for booth seats). The food was great and so was the service. We had the Non Wontons and they were DELICIOUS! My husband had the bangers and mash (which I tried and enjoyed) and I had the grilled tuna with squash and zucchini. I didn't love the side, but that's not something I'd count against them. A must try in Smithfield! read more
