We had a great time at the Oak and Ivy in the back room with friends and the food was good, not spectacular, but good to very good. (In fairness we were told that a sous chef had called in sick and the head chef was quite stretched!) . There was a a great musician playing in the backroom while we ate and the vibe was warm and inviting. We will definitely go back! Best experience in Smithfield so far or tied with Wharf Hill Grill. My boyfriend and I love Redpoint! Everything on their menu is truly delicious - can't go wrong with anything. We specifically love the wing nights (Thursdays) and lobster roll nights (Mondays) AND we enjoy the brunch on Sundays. This place is perfect for a date night or casual hangout. This is such a charming little place. It's cute and cozy, and the girls behind the bar are incredibly welcoming and personable. Over cooked burgers are back! I stopped ordering burgers at Redpoint because they were always served well done even when ordered medium. After the ownership change, I tried the wagyu burger and it was good. I guess that was a one off because tonight I ordered a burger, was waiting for it to take home, traveled the 30 seconds home (for real) and discovered it was over cooked. I took it back, and while the server was accommodating and the accompanying fries were less limp than the first order, the burger was once again over cooked and dry. I did not inspect the first patty, but the second was perfectly round and flat, reminding me of a pre-formed frozen patty. Sadly, I wasted $28 and am still hungry, but am not eating the burger as it just isn't any good. I am eating the bacon. read more

The best place for food, drinks and great service in downtown Smithfield. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The food is delicious and freshly prepared. We particularly enjoy the lobster rolls, fried pickled green tomatoes, shrimp and grits and flatbread pizzas. I'm here from Texas for work and was exploring the area when I came across Red Point Taphouse and thought I'd try it out. I wasn't sure what to expect other than some local beers and basic food options, but oh was I wrong! I ordered the select beef plate that came with a flank steak (ordered medium rare) with green beans and a cheesy potato. The entire dish was absolutely delicious and was blown away by the amount of flavor in it all. Very well done. I had a taste of a local distilled bacon bourbon and their in-house brewed blonde ale, which was great! The service was great, when I walked in I was greeted by one of the owners and the bartender and seated right away at the bar. They were both very attentive and social to me the whole time I was there. The ambience was great as well, I absolutely loved every bit of my visit at Red Point Taphouse!! read more

On 7/21/24 mid afternoon we went to have some drinks out on the back patio. It didn't last long as the flies were relentless so we carried on inside. 2 of us ordered beers on tap and both have had that beer before so they knew the taste of the beer. One friend asked if I would take a sip as she stated it taste like straight up salt water- so I took a sip and had to spit it out. Then my other friend said I thought the beer tasted salty but didn't want to complain so I asked to sip hers as well and it also was salty too. We asked our waitress to take off the beers and asked if could get something else and she stated no as they had a choice to taste first- there was no point in tasting first as my friends already knew what the beers tasted like before as they have had them before. I was out on a Sunday drive after a long hike when I came across the Taproom. Bartender Derek along with his pleasant demeanor was more than happy to assist. 2 stars for the great food and cool atmosphere. And it really is great food from an interesting menu. But, the whole experience was ruined because of the service. I think our waitress literally forgot we were her table. We got zero refills on any drinks the whole time we were there. After we ate we sat there drink-less and desert-less for at least 20-30 minutes while we watched our waitress take care of all the people drinking outside. When people think of a taphouse they think "local brewed beers" and Red Point certainly scores high on that point. As a slightly older patron what makes Red Point truly special for me is the food. Any taphouse can put out hamburgers and the usual fare but not Red Point. Check their website and look at their menu and you will see what I mean. The inside is small but there are as many or more tables outside. The food selection is not what I would normally expect in a tap house in a small town as it was more upscale than expected. While limited, there were around 4 choices for each of the app's, entree's and sides (all very different ) and it sounds like they rotate the menu a lot which to me is a plus. I went there recently with friends and was so impressed. Gourmet food in Smithfield. Each of the four of us got a different entree and we all were delighted. You are given three quantity levels of meals to choose from- something I love because I do not always want a big entree. I got the crab cakes with three different sauces which made it as interesting as it was delicious. Yes, the venue is small but I found it charming. And there is plenty of seating at a covered outdoor area that has heat lanterns if needed. The waitstaff was wonderful- friendly, informative and attentive. I love this place. read more

Cozy and comfortable space! Such a cute place but it does get a little crowded inside. The beer was fantastic and the staff were very nice and attentive! They were really busy when we went on a Friday night and the staff were very overwhelmed but they handled it so well and still provide great service! Only downside is the food... not that it's bad but it's actually the opposite. The food is very fancy, it's delicious and well made but not the kind of food you would expect at a tap house. You need to either go for a fancy date night dinner or go for the beer and eat before or after. I think they should provide some different food that is more "bar food". Still amazing and I would definitely recommend trying it out! They are newer so hopefully they make some changes to the food options offered but overall great place!
