I haven't been in years but we came by hoping it wouldn't be too busy and it was, but they seemed to be moving through orders decently fast so we stayed. Ordered at 1:14 and at 1:46 after still not getting our food and hearing numbers after ours we went to the counter and asked if our order had gotten lost. They said the order had just been put out and she assumed someone else must have picked up our order. Personally I think they just dropped our order and said someone else had picked it up so they didn't seem responsible for forgetting us. I could be wrong and they just gave it to someone without checking their ticket/receipt though, which is still not efficient. They remake it and got it wrong: my husband ordered fries but they gave him tots and at this point we're already late to where we're supposed to be so he just ate them. I also got tots and be warned you get the tiniest little cluster of less than a dozen of them and mine were somehow cold. Then as we left I asked for a refill of the diet Cherry Lemon Sundrop I ordered at the beginning and saw her put cherry Fanta in it (not diet) so I mentioned that and she said that's how they do diet CLS: it's half diet sundrop and half cherry Fanta. Yet when I asked when I ordered my drink if they had diet CLS, she said yes, which is a lie, so if you order that be prepared that it's half cherry Fanta instead and plan on the extra calories. Overall very frustrated with the portion sizes, the extreme wait, the lack of system for checking tickets before giving out food, and the fact that we only got a half hearted apology for all their mistakes. read more

I am shocked at the lack of great reviews! From the moment we walked in the service was excellent and friendly! They had a special which was a burger, fries and drink for $8 and wow did it look great! We ordered tater tots and a milkshake for a snack and it was easily the best milkshake I have ever had! Chocolate and peanut butter, super thick and creamy! Tots were cooked perfectly as well. McDonalds was the same with Burgers for 15 cents. Burger Chef and others long gone were the same. This local chain should not be confused with the Texan What A Burger Chain and has evolved into a regional competitor It's a regional chain with a limited number of store across the Carolina's. If you're old enough to remember going to the drive in during the '50's, '60's and part of the '70's where you pulled in and place you order and a cheap but good burger was delivered shortly thereafter. The last time I ate here was about 20 years ago. It was old then, even older now. What hasn't changed is the over-the-top friendly service (nearly as sweet as their tea), and the hot items fresh off the grill or outta the frier. My What-a-Cheeseburger all the way (ATW), was exactly the same as I remembered. Hot, tasty, with finely minced slaw and a complimenting chilli to bind it all together. Though it is a large sandwich, I was able to eat in the car and not get a drop on my shirt. Nice. Thanks for staying consistent over the years--a key ingredient for success in my opinion. Single fairly flat burger might add another paddy next time but hey for the price the it was worth it. Veggies on it where fresh and crispy. Fries are your standard Krinkle fries you get from the soda shop style burger joints. I would probably get a different more specific side next time in town like the fried pickles or Mac and cheese. I got food from the truck in Rockwell toda as I have many times before. I quit getting onion rings and fries a while ago as they went from awesome to nasty and never got better. The burgers and hotdogs stayed good. However, the what's cheeseburger was missing toppings asked for and the toppings that were on it, were pretty scarce. The patty had been cooked on the flat top, the pulled pork was tender and seasoned very well, and the onion ring added a bit of texture. Stopped in here last night on the way back to Charlotte. Got a What-A-Cheeseburger, fries, and the most bizarre soft-drink I could ever image, a witchdoctor. Burger was great, cooked properly, but the bun and condiments when going all the way require a second patty for sure. Fries were basic crinkle cut and although cooked properly were forgettable. The witchdoctor, a suicide blend of sodas topped with fresh lemon and a pile of .... dill pickles, was interesting to say the least. Worth trying at least once. I'll debate on ordering again if I'm ever in this area of the south again. Service was great! Neither of us had never been before so we asked what was good and the person working the cash till walked us through and recommended some amazing food.
