This is the first time I've ever rated a fast food chain. Yes, Whataburger has good fast burgers, fries, and chicken strips. I especially like the bacon, egg, cheese taquitos in the morning on the way to work. But this review is about the service provided by the store manager in the morning. She provides incredible service with good attention to detail and personalized service. Today she especially delighted me by taking the time to come out to my vehicle (curb side pickup) and tell me why my food was running late even though I hadn't been at the pickup point for more than 90 seconds. 4 minutes later I had my food. Other fast food chains would've made me wait the 4 minutes without an explanation. I appreciate the great service. read more

Coolest Whataburger ever! Of course you'd expect Whataburger to be amazing in their home town, and boy did they deliver! Our hotel was within walking distance, and we had driven by this place a couple times. Even though we rarely eat at chains while on vacay, we made an exception because 1) Whataburger, and 2) this is a two story Whataburger with a deck that looks out on the marina. Hello gorgeous view! When you go in they ask if you're sitting upstairs or downstairs, which makes sense. The people were super friendly and efficient. And maybe it was just because we were in Corpus but dang this food was so good! I mean, most every Whataburger I've eaten at has been good, but this was like extra good. Like Harmon Dobson was looking down with love as they made the burgers. I also got a shake which I don;t often splurge on but man that was one of the best shakes ever. Yes, ever. We didn't sit outside because it was windy, and the seagulls were fierce, but when we got done, we sat out there while I finished my delicious shake. I was just there and ordered two combo meals. Both drinks were nothing but carbonated water, both sandwiches were cold and soggy with a ton of mustard and the fries were barely there and soggy. One sandwich had bacon and the bacon was very under cooked and soggy. I couldn't eat it and had to throw it away. Far cry from what they used to be. I won't be back to that location again. Recently visited this location and was disappointed with the service and cleanliness of the restaurant. They got our order wrong and it also took too long even for Whataburger. When we finally received our food, some of it was cold and they forgot to give us the sauce we requested. After we told the server and she went to get us our sauce, she came back to reprimand us about telling them beforehand about the sauce. We said that we did tell them when ordering. Not only that, but we requested two sauces and they only gave us one so we had to go back ourselves to get the second sauce. This time-consuming process made the food get even colder. Aside from that experience, the restrooms were gross. In the women's restroom 2 out of the 3 stalls said "out of order" and the one stall that did work had toilet paper sitting sky high on one side of the toilet. One of the servers doubled as a janitor which I found odd since there were other servers. The place looks old and needing an update. To say that this is the flagship location, it doesn't look good. I've been here several times before and I always enjoyed it, but I had not been for a few years until recently. It really put us off and now we don't want to come to this location anymore. Home of the Whataburger. I didn't want to do the review for the location I go to here in San Antonio, but instead, I'm paying homage to where it all started. I've never been disappointed in food or in service and if the employees did give me an incorrect order, it was corrected and then some! Talk about your customer service! Not bad for being fast food. This place caught my eye during my showing of the CC shores. I was presented with the perfect opportunity to visit it after a late night outing with my family to the movies. We got there at about 1 AM, the place had some tables but was almost empty. I have to give to the place, it is quite a nice set up for a fast food chain. Hats off to the designer of the balcony, with a view of the ocean. The painting, making reference to the original creator and his wife really moved me. Now to the food, one will expect that this place, as almost any fast food franchise more this one being the flag post of the organization, will have the same food as any other place, like the one by my house, but no this one had to be different and not in a good way. The place was not clean, several tables were undone. There was a struggle in the back of the kitchen, were, in a very loud manner, the cashier was telling somebody, I think it was a girl, " do not tell me what to do" Then another kid walked by mumbling to himself "I'm a good cook" Quite sure he needed reinforcement, but now I was starting the feel in urgent need of reinforcement. The cashier told me he was going to take our order to our table, but when he saw us going upstairs he call me to tell me he was going to call on the speaker ?!? Well, my double meat burger was overcooked, even with some burn marks on the edge of the meat. By consequence it was dry. We sat alone on the second floor and this area also had several tables that needed to be clean. Ours was sticky and had to change. When we came here, we didn't eat anything, we were just driving by and my boyfriend saw it and about had a heart attack because it's the 2-story, King of all Whataburgers! Oh jeeze. We had to walk around the whole place, go up stairs and take pictures on the balcony. And of course pictures of him in front of the building with his arms out in glory. *rolls eyes* It looked like every other Whataburger to me on the inside and the balcony and tables outside were covered in bird poop. I've never had Whataburger until I came to Texas, and I'm glad that I tried it. This review is based on the fact that whataburger is a fast food restaurant, not a full service or sit-in kind of atmosphere. So while whataburger may not be necessarily deserving of 4 stars in comparison to full service restaurants, I'm factoring in everything from the price, the atmosphere, and the service, from the perspective of a fast food restaurant for the purposes of this review. I would like to begin by saying that the spicy ketchup is amazing. I don't know what they put in that, but the spicy ketchup is my favorite - I'm glad that they don't sell big bottles of those because I'd be finished with it in less than a week. The sauce in the honey butter chicken biscuit is awesome as well. Now, there are not many options for those with dietary restrictions, but you kind of have to go in knowing that. Being a fast food restaurant, I've always had fast service every single time I've been at whataburger, even despite the busy atmosphere at some nights. Also, it's open 24 hours - starting at 11pm, they serve their breakfast menus. The whataburger I went to at Corpus Christi had a two story restaurant overlooking the bay which was great. Again, I write this review in retrospect that whataburger is a fast food restaurant - while I'm not a big fan of fast food, I'd say that whataburger hasn't disappointed me. read more

Corpus Christi is home of Whataburger and this is the flagship. Eating here is apparently like visiting the first McDonalds except there's no backstabbing and, the burgers have mustard (viva l'difference!), and you can now choose between spicy and regular ketchup. (What is the deal with that ketchup?... it's still crazy good. Is it salt? It must be salt. And sugar.) Now I don't know if Texans understand how good they've had it all these years, but Whataburger is an undeniably good fast food restaurant and this is the flagship, "Whatburger by the Bay." I don't care what all those Californians say about In-N-Out. YOU'RE IN OUR COUNTRY, NOW. (Also, P. Terry's is better than In-N-Out, just saying). The Flagship is worth stopping by. It's novel, being two stories and right by the beachfront. You can feed fries to the seagulls upstairs which seems like a very corpus thing to do. (Don't feed the seagulls (totally feed them fries... you're a tourist, what do you care?)) The food is standard Whataburger fare. It's gonna be good, but there's nothing special at this location. You can feed the whole family on the cheap here and you won't feel bad doing it. Call it a "pilgrimage to whatamecca" and you're destined to be a marketing executive. read more

Born and Raised Proud El Pasoan here. Came on a short trip to Corpus Christi and had to get a late night bite. This Whataburger is just as the many we have back home. This location lies just before the beach and has great service. We had about three full charter buses with us and we were eating within 30minutes! Fast service without sacrificing quality can only mean this is a well run machine. Everyone loved the unique two story building with a great view of the water. read more

Eating here was definitely not my typical Whataburger experience, which is usually very good. When we walked in it took at least three minutes for the cashier to stop talking to her co-worker about nothing to take our order. It looked like they were high school kids; so most of the time I can understand their inability to deliver good service, but c'mon bro... After an unusually long wait to receive our food we decided to eat upstairs, because... view! right!? The upstairs of this restaurant needed some serious attention. I hate when people over-exaggerate in their reviews, but upstairs trash was literally overflowing out of the garbage cans. There was trash on the floor. There was trash on some of the tables. It smelled bad. If it wasn't summer time we might have eaten on the patio, but it was just too hot. Even then, some restaurant patrons decided to not heed the rules to not feed the birds. So even if we did want to eat outside we would have been harassed by seagulls. To sum it up, two floor Whataburger! Whoop! But its dirty... so... no whoop. Eat somewhere else. read more

Anytime I'm in Texas I have to hit up a Whataburger. I was in Corpus Christi and luckly there was one two blocks from our hotel. The day we left we went to get lunch before our flight. Come to find out this was the site of the very first Whataburger which is pretty cool and it's a two story restaurant with outdoor seating. We sat outside to enjoy the nice day, food and staff were excellent and the manager was even making rounds at the tables offering refills and anything else people needed. read more

I've been a fan of Whataburger all of my life. What's not to love? Whataburger is a true Texas icon. It has always been head and shoulders above its fast food competitors. Whataburger got its start in Corpus Christi many decades ago. I visit Corpus twice a year on average. I've always wanted to go to the original Whataburger on the bay. It's now a giant, two-story restaurant. It almost looks like a night club. For different reasons, I never made it to that location... until now. And man, was it disappointing. The place was dirty and greasy. Service was slow and rude. The burgers were just not fresh. My friend and I didn't even finish our meal. I would give this dump one star, but I'll give it two since I still have a place in my heart for Whataburger and I know they can do better. read more

When we were in Corpus this past weekend we knew that we wanted to go to the flagship Whataburger! This location is two stories and has great views of the marina and ocean. The second story actually has an outdoor patio which would be good to sit on if the weather is nice. The menu is the same as other Whataburger locations but the inside is definitely nicer with original artwork and a bronze statue of the founder of Whataburger. The service was great and I have to give the employees props for carrying those trays upstairs. Overall I'm happy to check this place off my list. read more

Was this supposed to be the original Whataburger? I don't know. All I know is my food was pretty damn satisfying at 1 AM after drinking about 7 doubles of whatever hard booze I had that night. When I came in the place was a bit of a loud madhouse. Fortunately, the food came out much quicker than I expected and I was able to be on my merry way back home... Alone. #nogame The food is really nothing special. Yes, it's the awesome Whataburger, but if you've been to five you've been to them all. What I most admired about this place (besides it's near-waterfront location) is the professionalism of their staff in dealing with a lot of drunks and juveniles. As much as I'm proud of this franchise for being Texan, I'll never say this is the paragon of hamburgers, having eaten way too many fantastic ones. Expect quick service and cheap burgers, $4 for the basic Whataburger, that hold you over until you get somewhere else, and to get out quickly. However, you'll never find a two-story Whataburger anywhere else in the world, and the view overlooking Corpus Christi Bay may just be worth it for some people. A two story Whataburger just steps from the water? Sounds like a picture perfect opportunity. Unfortunately, that's all it was. We arrived around 2pm and ordered through the app due to a long, inefficient line out the door in the hot Texas summer heat. The kids hoped to enjoy our meal while checking out the view from the second floor. Full. So back downstairs we went to push a few tables together and scrounge for chairs for our party of 6. After waiting for 10 or so minutes, we asked if we could have our cups and milkshakes. Milkshakes were ready, but the employee found it difficult to count how many "drink" cups we needed. We wound up one short and needed to dissect our online receipt in order to prove we had paid for the additional cup. (Meanwhile, random people would walk into this location, ask for a water cup, and be given a styrofoam Whataburger cup with no problem.) Sweet tea was empty. Asked an employee if there was more in the back, to which he responded "I don't know" and proceeded to walk away. Eventually we're forced to ask people working in the back on drive-thru for tea. Received our food after 20-25 minutes (longer than the estimated online wait indicated we would) but our order was correct, and we had all of our meal items. Fries were hot but unsalted. Burgers tasted consistent with Whataburger. Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way to come to this location again. The restaurant was rather warm and the dining area was less than efficient. Aside of the homeless dude soliciting right outside the main door, this whataburger location is really big!! You can go to the second floor where they have a really long mural of whataburger progressing throughout the years and get a nice look of the seashore. There is also the Selena memorials nearby and very easy to park there and just walk along the beach! Staff was attentive as always and I ordered the sweet and spicy burger. I usually ordered the A1 thick n hearty with toasted buns but they took that off the menu sometime in June 2017!! :c would have liked to eaten my all time favorite burger at this original location. I had high expectations for this Whataburger since it was very unique. I have been to many Whataburger restaurants around Texas. I ordered a Jalapeño and Cheese burger and they forgot to add the mustard! The restaurant also was not clean. The floors and appearance inside of the restaurant is not clean. The staff that brought me my food also did not bring out the tray to offer me condiments like ketchup or napkins. This place is UNCLEAN! Do not eat on the second floor because it smells like a children's den or a playplace. I do not think they have deep cleaned this store EVER. The place is in a great location next to the water. We are from out of town and are just on vacation and wanted to stop here and see what the original Whataburger looked like. This is the 2 story one with the classic A-Frame design. We ordered our food and went upstairs to eat on the balcony. Ordering the food was fast. The cashiers were very prompt and friendly. The food took about 10 minuets to get to us. We were there at around 10 pm so the lighting wasn't the greatest, but the balcony was very dirty. There was only like 5 tables outside, lots of rust on the tables. When the food arrived one of the people in our group opened his burger and the patty was ripped in half. He took it back and was able to get another one on the house. Since this place is located downtown there were a fair amount of homeless people around the building and coming in and out of the restaurant to use the bathroom. I would not feel comfortable going here at night with young children.Not sure what it is like during the daylight. There is a police station right across the parking lot, so there is some law enforcement near by if needed. read more
