We decided to try out the two story Whataburger on our trip to Corpus. The restaurant does sit on some prime property. It was ok, but not worth the hype. We ate upstairs, and a man cleaning the tables acted like he was our waiter but we didn't need anything so he didn't wait on us. The outside seating upstairs looked nice but the heat was overpowering and the sun was beating down on the unshaded tables. read more

Unlike most of the other reviewers, we actually had a great time at this Whataburger! We were there on a very busy (8+ employees preparing the food, plus two of the managers) Saturday night while the Day of the Dead festival was being held close by. Like the typical tourists we are, we ate upstairs watching the birds and the beach... That's three stars there just for the great view we could only dream of in the Houston area. I don't expect a lot from fast food. My last two visits to the drive thru here fell short of even that. My previous visit, the manager felt so bad about their performance, he provide a free breakfast. Belinda felt no such obligation this time. Ordered a justaburger and onion rings.. that's it... waited 10 minutes being first in line for starters. Then, the attendant mixed the charges for me and the customer behind me... charged met for their food, and swapped our cards! 10 more minutes, as the food grew colder, and they finally fixed it. No apology. No compensation. Not even ketchup, our even the offer of ketchup. Just to add insult to serious waste of time and near fraud, a heap of onions added to my simple kid's burger. This was our first time in Corpus Christi and this was the first time I have seen a 2-story Whataburger. The place had a nice feel to it. the food was just as expected. The place could have been a bit cleaner. The staff well they were friendly kinda. I guess you would have to say they were not rude but they could have been friendlier. Most Whataburger's I have been to have been better with the customer friendliness and I have been to a lot. I just love Whataburger. but overall my experience here was good. This is the only 2-story Whataburger in the world. The menu is the same as any other Whataburger except for the small Whatastore display area. If you go you have to sit upstairs which overlooks the marina. There's outdoor seating upstairs also on the balcony. Service is excellent and customers are greeted as they enter the restaurant. They're a little more expensive but the burgers and drink bar are amazingly good. I have not had their chicken but did get the onion rings instead of fries, a little extra but not by much, and they were okay. The fries didn't look that good but maybe I wasn't in the mood for them. Try a junior Whataburger to save on mulla and calories but the regular one is bigger than a Whopper and tastes a little better in my opinion. I don't know about the Impossible Burger comparison though! Better than Wienerschnitzel (hot dogs) for sure! read more

We just stopped at this Whataburger. It was horrible. There was only one person taking orders and a line out the door. Then our food never came. And then when we told our manager that we hadn't been taken care of and everybody else got their food the manager said I'll take care of it and then walked to the back. Terrible place. Whataburger by the Bay is the flagship Whataburger. It commemorates the 50th anniversary of the franchise that got its start in Corpus. It's two stories, much like a big-city McDonald's. Otherwise, it's like any other Whataburger. I was hoping they would have unique menu items or sauces for sale. The modified traffic in front makes for trouble as people in CC just really are bad drivers and turning that into two way traffic shows the true stupidity of City Hall...nothing to do with WhataMess though. Our food was ready in about 3 minutes. Supposedly, they don't put a patty on the grill until you order it. My burger was fully cooked, so that wasn't the case. Burger was OK...they're rarely anything other than "OK" at these joints. It's what we were expecting (other than the fact it wasn't truly cooked to order). visiting from out of town from Austin and just had to stop by this location which I saw on the daytripper. It's big and overlooks the marina which makes for a great dining experience. We chose to eat on the second floor but inside because you literally have seagulls hovering above you waiting for you to feed them some fries which they will eat up promptly. It isn't really that this Whataburger is bad - it is exactly like every other Whataburger, which is I guess the problem... I'm conflicted. For a flagship restaurant in the city the franchise was born, you'd think it'd be special. It wasn't. In fact, I had more problems here than any Whatabuger I've been to in years. 5 different people were given my same order number, causing confusion and some shouting (from other people) while the employees swore at each other for the mistake in front of kids. The bathrooms were filthy and small and the place had an odd smell to it. But the food was just as good as any other Whataburger, so there's that :-\ I was just sad to see the flagship of the best fast food in the world offer such a bland experience. read more

Walked in yesterday, didn't look too crowded, but we found out why pretty quickly. Nobody was at the registers and when we were finally greeted, it was to be informed that it would be a 45+ minute wait for a burger, because "we just had a large rush come through" I guess at least we were lucky she told us this before we tried to place our orders. She than began to refund others who had already been waiting for their meals. I noticed there were about half the staff of a usual sized Whataburger working in back. I couldn't believe how sloppy the place was. How embarrassing this location must be for Whataburger, especially in such a nice setting, in their own hometown for crying out loud! This is the kind of location you might drive out of your way to visit, and since there's nothing special about the food here, you think they'd at least be shipshape and ready for tourist crowds. read more

Whataburger has quit giving croutons with the salads. We would gladly pay a bit more to include the croutons. Strikes us as a cheap way to save a little money while frustrating regular customers. Also, we continually ask for no plasticware, but our request is routinely ignored, and it is always thrown into the bag. read more

Same great quality that we have come to expect from Whataburger. This is not the original Whataburger (it was built in 1999) but it is the largest Whataburger at 6,000 square feet! There is history and memorabilia everywhere, a statue of the founder, and two stories with a balcony and water view! read more

Don't let the long line fool you. It was almost to the door when we walked in, but we ordered food within 3 min. The cashier confirmed our order & asked if we wanted to sit upstairs, downstairs, or outside. A very nice young gentleman brought our food upstairs just as we were siting down. Whataburger by the Bay. Yes this is the most famous Whataburger of all. The picture of this store is found in most all other locations. You can choose to eat upstairs, downstairs or outside on the deck. Upstairs is hotter however since the AC is not the best. There is an elevator and stairs. Other than that it's pretty much just regular menu and a double drive thru. Since Corpus is very touristy, you should be reminded that they have a very good cheap breakfast open 24 hours. Breakfast served 11pm all night until 11am. Scrambled eggs with bacon or sausage and a drink or Pancake meal with bacon or sausage and a drink. They still have the taquitos and other menu items. Every kid will want to stop here, trust me even if just to take pictures. And yes it's right by the bay. It is fast food so do not expect much and do not expect the tables to always be clean. I'm no expert but I have been in the service industry for quite a while. When we arrived the manager was speaking to some employees and glanced over a few times. But continued to speak to her employees casually even though we were waiting to be helped. Then an employee Jesus B, sauntered over and said " oh did you want to order". So I smiled and said yes. I ordered for my girlfriend and then myself. He repeated her order and then paused and said " wait what did you say". There are approximately 7 people inside currently. His lack of attention, enthusiasm, and concern are obvious to say the least. And as for the female manager on duty currently, it's 5:52 on mon the 9th of April 2018 , you should set a better example. It makes sense that the employees don't care. It's obvious that you don't and you are supposed to be the leader. Way to make the original whataburger a HUGE fail. read more

Have always love Whataburger. This is the best, coolest location ever. Looks great and amazing service, and the food as tasty as ever

This isn't the original Whataburger. It also doesn't smell like a playpen, and it isn't dirty, and it isn't full of homeless people. It is a much nicer than average fast food location. In fact, apart from maybe the Bailbrook McDonalds, this might be the nicest fast-food location I've been to. Maybe at the end if a busy Saturday this location is a little dirtier than usual. But when we went to it on a Saturday morning it was clean, the employees were polite and professional and the food was normal for a Whataburger. The negative reviews of this location are unconscionable. If you are looking for the aged, patina-ed first Whataburger, you will be disappointed. If you've come to Corpus on a Whataburger pilgrimage, this location will not necessarily satisfy you. But it might make you realize that the Whataburger we know and love is more about the last 10 years, than the last 67 years. Whataburger is great. I love it. Don't trash Whataburger. read more

Nice, large restaurant with second story and a balcony. I came here two days in a row with a large group of high schoolers I was chaperoning on a field trip. Despite our very large order, it was done right and fast. They have excellent customer service here, with staff that responds to your needs for more refills and extra spicy ketchup quickly. read more

For being a busy location at 1245, this was a great experience! The only negative was that the drink area was dirty. The restrooms, even for being so busy, weren't dirty. We were there for 40minutes, and by the time we left, the man working the front house had cleaned the entire dining area- including the drink area! He was also personable and professional! We ordered burgers, fries, and a grilled chicken apple cranberry salad. Everything was EXCELLENT. If you want a fast food burger in this area, I recommend this Whataburger location! read more

It was going smoothly in the drive thru until the very end. Paid for my food. Asked for ketchup. As the guy provided me the bag of food I asked is the ketchup in the bag. He goes on to say he's about to give me the ketchup then proceeds with a smartass comment telling me "its called distance. Distance is the word.". Then he tried to apologise saying its a medical thing. I guess its normal for the employees to berate their customers at Whataburger.
