One for the road! Since the Holding company out of Chicago bought Whataburger a few years ago, my worst fears have not materialized. There were a few hiccups but overall barring the labor tightening, Whataburger has held up nicely. Around my home turf, I usually know which ones are good and which ones are superb so, I can go to those. However,on the road its not always clear and I always hold my breath, hoping I get a superb one instead of just good one. Heading out of south padre, this one is located in Port Isabell, just before you enter a highway food desert. So, even though not starving I decided to play it safe and get a Double Meat with cheese all the way. I only eat 1/2 and not the entire double in one sitting. I get it because the second patty and cheese makes for a perfect burger. I recommend you try this little cheat too which will kick your Whataburger experience up notches unknown to man. I have visited this place many times over the years. Most of the time, I used the drive-thru, but I have dined in less than a handful of times. The service is always great, no matter how busy they are, and the staff are super friendly. It's a well-kept location, clean and well-maintained, especially considering the high number of tourists it receives. The food is always hot and made to order, and they are quick here, so I'm happy about that. read more

My wife order 3 burgers, 1 fry and 1 drink and was charged $27.50. She paid $42.50 with denominations of two twenty dollar bills, two ones and $.50 expecting to receive $15 in charge. The clerk then attempted to give her $5 in change. After a lengthy discussion the manager was involved. The manager claimed there was only on twenty in the till and that she still owed a balance. It was raining and my wife was so flustered that she just wanted to get out of there. She handed the manager a $50 bill to settle the supposed balance and the transaction was rung up as $27.,50 charge and $52.50 received and was given $25 in change. She was only given $2.50 credit for the original payment. She was out $40 at the end of the transaction. Simply ridiculous, I truly enjoy Whataburger, but that is the last time we will ever visit the establishment. This place has TERRIBLE staff and time management. I have tried dining in, drive thru, mobile order, it never fails i have to wait 30-40mins for a meal. Even if i place my order on the app, then wait 30minutes, then go get the meal, it still takes forever to get it(assuming the order is correct) staff is unfriendly and unwelcoming. Very quick to ignore and avoid eye contact with customers ESPECIALLY if they can tell you're waiting for an order. I have eaten at a lot of whataburgers all across Texas and this location by far without a doubt no contest is the single WORST location i've eaten at. This review marks the last time i'll eat at this whataburger. I'll make the drive to the island location from here on out. I literally save time even by driving across the causeway. Well Im not sure what to say about this particular What A Burger except, it sucks. Two different occasions and the same results. First, lunch, had to wait more than 25 minutes, not that busy, I have seen What a Burger busier. I went to the counter to ask what happened to my meal and I got attitude from the counter person, she had no name tag on so that was fruitless. Second try, for breakfast, the same results, a 25 minute wait, once again I inquired at the counter, got attitude and then she went to the back to get my meal. brought it to me with any apology. I have to say I have been in several What A Burgers, one near my house and have NEVER had this type of service. The staff in this What A Burger needs to give equal attention to the inside customers like they do to the drive up customers. Several customers walked in and then right back out when they heard other customers complaining about the inside service. I have never seen such rude, slow and down right crappy service in a FAST FOOD place as I have seen here. OH and the floor is slick like it is covered in grease. Came to eat here one evening after a day at the island. Terrible place. Very dirty, no straws, no napkins, tables all messy, trash over flowing. The food was terrible as well. I ordered the patty melt and literally had two drop of the creamy jalapeño sauce. The burger was burnt, dry, and the fries tasted like they have been sitting out. When asked for napkins, we were told we can only have about 4 napkins. I came with my family of 8! How do we share 4 flimsy napkins? Restrooms are disgusting as well. Outrageous! Out of root beer, you can notify us that you're out of chicken at the same time. Also can we demote the manager? I usually love this place. Onion rings whatasized and portion was rediculous. Bacon cheeseburger -more like essence of bacon... Looked raw and transparent. Very disappointed. Lost my appetite. Night manager told me onion rings come in portions and it does not matter how big or small they are. Instead of telling me to keep the merely serving and providing me with the fries he took onion rings back. Not very customer oriented. Horrible service. And it's more of the manager's fault than the employees. They took five minutes to take our order despite the fact that we were the only one's in line. A four person order took 25 minutes to be ready and it was incomplete. By that time there were about 5 people in line and again no one at the register to take their orders. Finally someone got there and started to take orders and gave me the remainder of my meal. And the thing was, I counted TEN EMPLOYEES on what seemed their lunch break eating at the restaurant. There are two explanations for all the problems, either everyone was being lazy, or the place was criminally understaffed. Both are caused by horrible management that allowed for half of the employees to take their lunch break at the exact same time without a proper plan in place to keep the restaurant running. The only Whataburger on PI, so it's very much loved unless you wanna drive across the bridge or out of town. It's pretty clean and the service is fast unless it's spring break or mid day during the summer Food is just as good as any other Whataburger The bathroom is freezing for some reason. 18 minute wait for what??? Order taken by Kailie G. - order number 87. Ordered a #1 & #5. When #97 got their food I was getting up to go see what had happened to our order, but then a guy comes out from back with a tray, walks to a table Kailie G. was cleaning, and ever so strangely, she immediately points to our table across the room. We ordered 18 minutes earlier - how did she know who #87 was by then? I asked the person carrying the food tray why it took so long to get our food out of the fast food kitchen and all he could say was he was sorry it took so long. A bit later the shift manager came around and I asked him why it took 18 minutes to get our simple order, mentioning to him 9 people who placed orders after we did got their food before we did. All he could say was he was sorry it took so long. That's not an answer. I already knew it took too long and something was amiss. The manager offered apple pies, but I did not want more food, just our order in a timely manner and a honest answer to my question why it took so long. This What-A-Burger definitely has a poor practice in place that allowed whatever happened to happen. As a business owner involved in the hospitality industry and also in the public service industry I would never expect anyone on the payroll to not understand the importance of customer service and solving customer service issues, and honestly answer questions when asked. read more

This review refers to the new Whataburger, located across the street. Nice new building. Lots of employees inisde. In fact, 5 employees were hanging out in the dining area eating. No apparent management, however, as there was debris on tables and on the floor everywhere, and I saw many employees walk by empty trays and debris on tables without any interest in cleaning up. Sorta distrubing to eat in such a dirty restaurant that looks nice from the outside. Its open 24hrs so maybe they clean it on the graveyard shift. Must be pretty filthy at that point though. Some locals raved about the burgers and compared it to In and Out, but it is nothing more than a typical burger joint that should be a lot cleaner. read more
