The technician I worked with was very nice and easy to talk to, and the price for the flush was a lot less than I expected (2/3 the price I paid at another Bellingham shop a year or two ago). I recently had my car painted so I was concerned about leaving it for service. Tim gave me a time slot so I could wait for the car. He had to move out a car he was working on to accommodate me but got me in right away and serviced my cooling system. I had an opportunity talk with him the following day and found him to be willing to take his time and energy to establish a long term customer relationship. Took my radiator in to have a leak fixed. Took two weeks of me calling every three days for them to tell me it needed a new top tank and they couldn't find one. I'm not angry that they couldn't fix it or get the part, that happens. I'm annoyed I received two weeks of "we'll know tomorrow" or "let me call you back in the afternoon". If your customer service plan is "We'll get to it, when we get to it", at least be honest about it. read more

I had a very hard time contacting these people and getting a call back and my radiator blew up after just over a year but they gave me a $100 refund so I think that's a three star service even though I had to buy an entire new radiator obviously from a different company do business here at your own risk read more

I had been searching for several years for a top-notch repair shop with great service and reasonable prices. In some ways I supposed it to be a bit of a mythical search, a bit like the quest for the Holy Grail. In general, I try and do as many of my own repairs as possible, because I trust my own work, and dislike being overcharged by mechanics who believe they have you strapped over a barrel, but I don't have a heated indoor space in which to work, nor a hoist, etc. For a brief time, I thought I had found a good solution with my previous mechanic, but after a few expensive and frustrating fiascos, It was time to move along... When my wife's starter motor packed it in on her car, I thought I'd put in another for her. Turns out her previously mechanic had over-torqued the bolts holding it in place, and I partially stripped one while trying to remove it. It was my slow season at work and money was tight, but the days were short and a cold snap had settled in, so saving money by affecting a back-yard repair was looking like an increasingly dubious possibility. On a whim, and really as a 'hail Mary', I popped into their shop as I walked by on the way to the corner store, and asked for a rough estimate to do the job. They quickly gave me a number that I thought was quite reasonable, and even recommended a friend of theirs who could tow the car to their shop, also at a very reasonable price. They were fine with the fact that I had already purchased the replacement part, and were happy to install it. A few complexities arose during the removal and installation process that significantly increased their labor time, but they stuck to the 'estimate' they had given me, allowing me to understand that it had been a firm quote. In other words, they ate the extra labor charge, and refused additional payment. Amazing!!!! They also remedied a few small, unrelated problems they found, at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE!!!! It was right before a very difficult Christmas for us, and I don't mind admitting that I drove my wife's car home to her with tears in my eyes. Next was my van, which had begun having an intermittent stalling issue. Up until a month prior, it had been absolutely reliable, but it had recently stranded me on a few occasions, costing me a small fortune in towing bills. They found a loose wire in the ignition circuit, remedied it, and charged me only $20. This included a significant road test to ensure that the problem was resolved. Unheard of... This was the only the third time in a couple of million miles of driving when I have tipped my mechanic, and In this case, gave them a tip bigger than the bill - and money was tight, but great service is great service. Now here's the kicker... They tried to refuse my offered gratuity, and when I insisted more than once that they accept it, they said they would only do so if their repair actually solved the problem - remember, it was intermittent... They assured me that if the problem resurfaced, that they would apply the amount of my gratuity toward any subsequent repair. WOW!! Of note is that another shop previously had my van for several days searching for the same issue, and charged me a 'diagnostic fee', which I had to dispute, because they couldn't find the problem and didn't resolve it. This was a high-end, fancy, supposedly reputable, expensive repair shop that came recommended by a good friend in the retail car business. A couple of other shops had been either too busy to look at it in a timely fashion, or had begun weaving preparatory tales of doom and gloom to try and get me ready to loosen up my wallet for an exorbitant repair bill that I couldn't really afford at that moment. I heard how the likely culprits were the fuel pump, ignition control computer, that kind of thing, or perhaps a complex combination of expensive problems. By way of contrast, the guys at Whatcom Radiator actually opened the hood, looked for the simplest problem, and solved it within minutes. This is now the ONLY shop where I bring my auto repair business along with my wife's, and I absolutely insist that all of my friends exclusively deal with them, because I am tired of hearing their stories of being ripped-off on simple auto repairs. In fact, it's the first shop I have ever trusted to deal directly with my wife if I am out of town, because I absolutely know that they won't prey on her lack of mechanical knowledge and will repair her car at the most reasonable price possible. I would be surprised if there are more than a handful of shops in the entire country as honest, helpful, pleasant, and reasonably priced as this outfit. If one exists, I've certainly never found it. Treat these guys with genuine respect, and be assured that they will do the same to you, and then some... This business is a true pillar of the community, and raises the bar to a level that is truly rare. Absolutely First-Class, guys!! Keep up the extraordinary work!!!!! A+++++ read more

Don't waste your time like I did . . . . Seemed like a great price on a radiator replacement - which it probably would've been if they ever got around to doing it. Dropped of car at 9:45am and told done in 2 hours. Came back 3 hours later (after I never got the call I was supposed to get ) and car still sitting where I left it in parking lot. I was told would be another hour and then mechanic went back to working on some other rig . . . got keys and left. Whatever . . . Was told labor was $50/hr - then I should bill them $150 for wasting my time. read more

Helping my son move from college with my old van the radiator broke while I was in Bellingham. They were able to clear their afternoon schedule to get me in to replace my radiator. He worked late to finish and get me on my way that evening. All this with a very reasonable price. I definitely recommend them. read more
