I chose Wheaton eye clinic from an Americas Best referal. The Dr. was great answered all my concern.My question is how in the world does a Eye appointment take 2.5 + hrs..Check in was very unorganized I did precheck in papers on line and had to do them again there. The whole place seemed extremely chaotic.The pre exam rooms had no ceiling and you could hear the exam next to you.. very old outdated building.After 25 min the first lady took me.. she did tests after she was done she said I have to see if they want me to do more of course they did.I was then brought to another lady she did more testing....they brought to a man he did more testing..I feel this was all to prolong the situation because the dr was backed up.They really need to stop over booking.The patients time is valuable too. It was now going on 2 hrs I had to ask when they were going to call me back.Finally 15 min later the brought me to a room where I waited another 15 min .I was finally seen by the dr. then a few more tests?All this was supposed to be is a cataract appointment.I spent less time with the Dr than anyone else. At checkout I literally had to ask the guy for a print out.It was almost like I was bothering him.I had to walk up to him he didn't even call me up. After the hiccup, I continue to see Dr Williams for my risk for glaucoma, with it being in the family. She actually made good on the money issue. She is very thorough and I always enjoy my visits with her. I was recently prescribed eye drops, which I now will have to use every night for the rest of my life. Been going there for years. Last opthomologist I saw there tried to talk me out of cataract surgery. My vision got bad enough that I had the surgery. Probably should've gone elsewhere. Paid thousands extra for Vivity lenses. Saw great immediately after surgery...then, after 3 months did not. Surgeon wouldn't answer questions, until he did. His answer then was "I don't know." Optometrist there said to use drops for dry eye, then would not prescribe. My vision, in the past three months has got perceptually worse. She even ran ahead of time, which she said not to expect, but because she had a cancellation she was able to see me early! Be cautious when scheduling with this business. They claim to send out appointment reminders, but I didn't receive a single one. Fortunately, I remembered at the last minute--but since I work in downtown Chicago, I had to rearrange my entire day. When I called to ask about rescheduling, I was told there would be a $50 fee, with no flexibility. The customer service experience was also disappointing. The people answering the phones were unhelpful, lacked empathy, and offered no apology for the missed reminders. Overall, it was a frustrating experience that could have been avoided with better communication and a little understanding. We will be looking for a different eye dr going forward. read more

I have been going to another eye specialist for many years. They usually just say "Your eye isn't looking good". Like no kidding, I didn't have to pay you to tell me that. After my last appointment a month ago, I decided to come here for a second opinion. At Wheaton Eye Clinic, I will say they are really busy, even on a Wednesday morning. My experience is that the staff was kind and helpful. I went to the Wheaton Eye Clinic and was seen by Dr. Padmini Kaushal, a specialist in sclerites and uveitis. After blood tests, CAT scan and medication Dr. Kaushal helped me to recover from this painful condition. Through My Chart portal she was always available and quick to answer my many questions. I am so happy to have found her as I feel she is one of few specialists in this field. She is extremely busy but always available. This is a very busy eye clinic so there are wait times and some delays in getting an appointment but believe me it is worth it! Used to be a great facility. Now, waiting time is absurd & care not as good. After my cataract surgery, I developed dry eye. I went back three times thinking more was wrong. I've gone to Wheaton Eye several times over the last few years. Each visit the appointment was stretched and manipulated to take at least two hours of my time. I believe the process is designed to tie up as many patients as possible. This is the third year in a row that the Dr I was seeing was late to her appointments. Today she was two hours late. I arrived 20 minutes before my 1:40 appointment, it is now 4:15 and still waiting to see the doctor. Good thing is this place closes at 5:00 so I should be getting out of here soon. Without a doubt this place is run like an assembly line. It's the size of small airport and when I got inside there were over 100 people waiting. I just get the bad feeling that no matter what you come in for you will be tested for everything and charged accordingly. This place was recommended by the person who did my eye exam at Costco and that is the only reason I am here. Doubt I will be back. Just wanted to add I walked out of this place at 4:51, 9 minutes before closing. That's a 1:40 appointment and I saw the doctor for a total of under 10 minutes. By the way he put some drops in my eyes, to dilate, didn't tell me I would have blurry vision. It is now 8 pm and it starting to clear up some. Glad my wife was with me because I am not sure if driving would have been a good idea. I have no doubt these are excellent doctors and technicians, and they do quality work, but they are pushing so many patients through the system there has to be mistakes made and the least a loss of interest due to to the workload. read more

The first girl who tested my eyes was nice and second girl was okay could of stopped tested said we need to restart ur doing it wrong long story and the image guy didn't smile or say hi AND MY FINAL VISIT WITH THE ACTUAL EYE DOCTOR specialist I never met before; not sure if she was having a bad day but didn't introduce herself, didn't say hello, didn't go over the images or eye exam .... A chronic eye condition brought us to Wheaton Eye clinic both Wheaton and Hinsdale office...and after a almost 3 year battle.... with the caring and careful guidance of Dr. Kaushal and Dr. Wingard and the amazing staff my son was able to have double cataract surgery to regain his eyesight. I am giving this 1 star review because of the way several employees at Wheaton Eye Clinic treated me. First, upon arrival there was an employee whom I assume is simply there to greet incoming patients. She was surly, scowl-faced and unhelpful. I then checked in with another unfriendly employee who didn't once look up and scowled the whole time. When my name was called to see the first technician, I was shocked by how rude she was! Barking at me and making me feel like a nuisance. I almost walked out right then, that's how mad I was. When I saw the doctor, I told her about my experience and her response was "oh yes she can be brash" um.....fix it! The doctor was fine but clearly rushing. My take away is that this place packs as many patients in as possible to make as much money as possible and it makes for a horrible experience for the patient. I won't be back. read more

TERRIBLE STAFF There's hundreds of bad reviews I just saw today after a terrible experience. Don't go here- they hide the bad reviews- Had appt with Dr Jung- drove an hour to find out the appt was cancelled- staff didn't seem to care- I was told there are no other glaucoma doctors that can see my dad. I asked how did the appointment get cancelled- receptionist said they called to reschedule made a new appt and then doctor was not going to be in the office for new appt and they called again to reschedule made a new appointment and then they called back again and said the doctor will be there and to keep the original appointment AND then got to the doctors office and told he was not there on day of appointment. So they are very unorganized and unprofessional as my dad is 87 years old with glaucoma and cancer- 45 minutes to this clinic is insane along with all the rescheduling and then to get there and they are like, I don't know what to tell you. What a joke of an office staff. Now standing there with my sick dad they want to reschedule again? Are you guys kidding me? I have never felt like I was just a number until my visit this week. I got my eyes dilated and wasn't given any sun shields. The Doctor was so not personal. He also stated in the diagnosis that I was spoken to about Surgery. We had little to no conversation. After the diagnosis I had many questions and concerns. I was told to write them down to discuss at the next appointment which is 4 weeks out. I felt like a number that went through the cycle of the appointment and no one gave any personal attention. They dropped me as a patient for no reason immediately after laser surgery for my diabetic retinopathy. No one will tell me why, I have to wait for their certified letter. I had been with my retinal specialist Doctor Setlur for years. He even had me make another appointment. The clinic would not let me speak to him. Now I'm left having to worry about my eye with no post- surgical support. My bill is always paid in full. I make my appointments. Stay on the treatment plan. Am polite. I have no idea why they did this. Obviously I would not recommend a place that would do something like this to a patient. I liked my doctor, but this is strange and unacceptable. Brought my elderly father to the Wheaton Eye Clinic today for his annual visit. Overall. I'd say he got good care, but the whole process from checking in, to actually seeing the doctor could be made more patient-friendly. I had checked him in online and all was supposedly confirmed according to the Northwestern Medicine MyChart statement. (Wheaton Eye Clinic is affiliated with Northwestern Medicine and I received a link from Northwestern to check him in for the eye appointment.) Upon going to registration on site, we were asked for his insurance card because they said they only had an old card on file. The physical card was not brought because I knew Northwestern had it in the system and when I told her that, she said that they don't have that data. I had to log in to Northwestern MyChart and show her, in order to provide proof of current coverage. It's odd that Wheaton Eye Clinic doesn't have access to that, but if that's the case then a person should be informed during online check in that everything is confirmed except that they would need to bring their insurance card to the appointment. Also, it would be nice if Wheaton Eye Clinic could somehow change their assembly line type assessment process. One has to go from room to room (4 rooms total) for each step. It's just a bit rough for an elderly person, besides the fact you have to listen for your name being called each time by personnel while waiting in a large waiting area. For those hard of hearing, it's difficult to hear the names being called which makes it stressful. A number of times I heard patients questioning if their name was being called or not. Could the workers calling out names at least have voice amplifiers somehow? read more

Wheaton Eye Clinic has the most unhappy staff and doctors I have ever encountered. Whoever owns this place must be a tyrant to work for. Not a friendly face, voice or jesture can be found. Eyes are one of the most important senses humans have. Many people go here for very serious conditions. People who choose to go to Wheaton Eye Clinic should be treated with kindness and compassion every step of the process. No one there is friendly. The doctor I saw was rude and insulting. Plus, she gave me incorrect information. I had lasik surgery in one eye which held up very well for 16 years. She told me I could never have lasik surgery again. I know revisions are done all the time. I also complained about floaters. Again, she told me I had to live with it, which is not true. I cannot wear contact lenses, they bother my eyes. I hate wearing glasses, hence the reason I had lasik surgery to begin with. I told the doctor I saw this information and my reasons. She pretty much said, too bad, those are your only options. I am always pleased with the care I received. They've changed something so you get in & out, generally, in less than hours. That's for a full check up. If you're coming in with a specific issue it will usually be much less time. Communication has vastly improved which, I think, is why it's a pleasure to go to the Wheaton Eye Clinic. Wheaton Eye Clinic is everything you could want when in need of eye care. They are a one-stop shop that provides the highest level of service. I have been a patient at WEC for many, MANY years (going on 30+) and I have always had a great experience. The doctors and staff are friendly and caring, displaying a level of true interest in their patients' current condition and lives overall. You name it, I've probably done it at WEC as far as services (pediatric optometry, surgery, adult optometry, glasses, contacts) and couldn't have asked for a better level of care. My most recent visit is what prompted this review as it really drove home everything I've said above. It was just a normal check up with my contact lens doctor but he and I got to chatting and he shared how much he truly enjoys his profession and helping patients. That's the kind of doctor you want, the level of passion, especially when it comes to something as sensitive and important as one's eyes. If you are in need of care then look no further. She had such a combative and pompous attitude and told me nothing of her exam findings, I had to ask so many questions to even get any information. She does not seem to care one bit for her patients. I'm giving this a high rating for the excellent doctors I have here, but as far as operations at this location - it's very impersonal and basically you are just a number. Everyone is shuttled from one room to another with barely interaction with staff. Most patients are older, staff races you to each room and hard to keep up. Shouting our names to a waiting room of sometimes up to 30 + waiting people is actually a bit unnerving and embarrassing. As stated since most patients are elderly, the staff really needs to project their voices when dealing with us seniors. It is embarrassing to be constantly asking for staff to repeat themselves. I do really think the doctors are exceptional and for that reason I don't want to change, but I do seek appointments as smaller locations if I can / Naperville, St Charles.. read more

The only thing that rationalizes my coming here is (1) necessary post-surgical follow-ups (2) the docs/staff seem qualified. Bedside manner and availability of information is sorely lacking with many staff. The last time I was in for a post-surgery follow-up, the tech associated with my doc (Fenton) was VERY brusque with me. (And, also, the front desk tried to charge me a co-pay for the follow-up..) My surgical eye had higher pressure (21), and the tech tried telling me it was because my mask was too low on my nose (I have it towards the end, covered). I told her it was not pressing /flattening my nose. (I have a pretty rigid nose thanks to a rhino/septoplasty.) She told me the mask was flattening my nose and causing high eye pressure. That she's seen it before. However, I didn't understand what she wanted me to do until she went back and forth with me, clearly growing irritated, and I figured out she wanted me to hike it all the way up to the bottoms of my eyes. So I did, and the mask placement didn't impact my eye pressure readings one bit. They tested twice, and used two methods of reading my eye pressure. In fact, they noted it was still elevated, and I asked the doc about implications. She also was short with me when she further examined my eye, telling me to open my eyelid more. I had my eye as open wide as I could physically make it. My surgical eye has been swollen, droopier lid, far less functional since the surgery. I was 3 weeks post-op. I told her I was trying, couldn't open it more, etc. Her attitude was really unnecessary and off-putting. At my next follow-up, my doc told me the swelling and functionality will take more MONTHS to right itself. With the doc, I find I have to ask LOTS of questions. Not a lot of forthcoming information aside from cautions/restrictions. I find I have to press a bit for more information pertaining to what's normal, what can I expect, and related to my concerns. As I told my family doc, I probably wouldn't have chosen this facility/docs given the choice or if I had the opportunity to research more, but I'm thankful they seem to have the necessary medical expertise. They also treated my medical situation seriously. It might make it worth the inconveniences or personality quirks...?? Optics: Also brusque, no insurance. Upon talking about resuming contact wearing and glasses prescriptions, my doc told me I could make an appointment at their optical center. Apparently there are two different stations, one for contacts and one for glasses? An employee at the contacts one was also brusque. I stated that I wanted to make an appointment. When asked who my doctor was, I told her (Fenton), and got a funny look that he was not a doctor associated with contacts. How would I know?? Lol. So I explained I saw my doctor for surgery, and he sent me over for a contact exam. I told her I had no idea, I was a first-timer, and "I apologize for my ignorance." I was promptly told that exams and contacts are not covered by insurance and are 100% out of pocket. I asked what the cost of a contact exam was and, after she rifled through a binder, I was given a ballpark between $140-240. Between her attitude and the fact that they don't take any insurance, I just kind of laughed, thanked her for her time, and left. It would be really beneficial if they trained their staff on customer service and just basic niceties. Why does that even have to be a thing? Sigh. read more

My new optometrist at the local Lens Crafters informed me that the reason for my worsening vision was cataracts. He is the one who highly recommended the Wheaton Eye Clinic, sharing with me his own great experience having his cataracts surgically removed and IOL's implanted. I had heard wonderful things through the years about this clinic I drive by often, even from those who came long distances to have major vision problems taken care of. Thus, I did not hesitate to make an appointment. It is not easy to get an appointment for tests and eventual surgery with the surgeon my eye doc recommended, so I took a chance (after praying) going with one of the young, new(er) surgeons, Bradley Sacher. I got an appointment right away; the cataract surgery readiness was confirmed, and I had my first one (right eye) completed yesterday. After only 24 hours, my eyesight is even sharper than when I wore contacts! The entire process was seamless and all the staff, from the one who welcomes you at the front doors and sends you in the right direction, to the eye technician (not sure his title) who tests you on the state-of-the-art machinery, to the nurses who check you in for surgery, and the nurses who prep you for surgery, and the nurse who just called me at home to check up on me... are friendly, efficient and caring. I was expecting youthful cockiness from my surgeon who reputably does 20-30 cataract surgeries a week, but he was humble, confident, kind, and skilled! I am scratching my head about how low a Yelp rating this world-famous eye clinic has on Yelp! Seriously, in all my international travels, when friends and new acquaintances learn I'm from Wheaton, Illinois, sometimes they will mention the famed Wheaton College & Graduate School; but sometimes it's Wheaton Eye Clinic they want to tell me about! read more

I had to log in and write a review after spending hours here the other day. The day before my appointment, I made the mistake of coming on Yelp and reading reviews of this place - a lot of which cited rude staff and even fraudulent billing practices. I was admittedly concerned about going there after reading all of that! Immediately upon arrival, I was greeted by a very friendly receptionist, who made sure to warn me (once again) that my visit would take 4-6 hours. She also gave me a document to sign that CLEARLY stated that refraction and some other tests weren't covered by most insurance plans and that I would be billed for these tests if I signed the document, and the tests would not be done if I did not sign. I honestly can't even comprehend how people can claim them charging for these tests is "fraudulent" - Do y'all just sign your names on anything you're handed without reading it?? Anyway, that's on YOU - not them. From that point on, I did a LOT of waiting in a LOT of different waiting rooms. That aspect of others' reviews was definitely spot-on. If you're coming here for treatment, bring a book to read or some apps to play with - or a buddy to keep you company. You'll need it! But every single staff member I encountered, from the girl greeting people at the door to the neuro-ophthalmologist I eventually discussed my diagnosis and treatment options with were all EXTREMELY nice. All of them were so friendly and accommodating and complimentary and just plain LOVELY. Not a rude or short-tempered person among them - and believe me, I saw a LOT of different people here, as someone new does just about each test/scan/etc that you need. Which, really, is just about the only valid complaint I think one could have about this place. The way they do things DOES result in a lot of being shuffled from place to place and waaaaaaiting - but I don't think I've ever felt like my eyes were as thoroughly looked at as I did here. I don't know if I'd return for just a routine eye exam or a glasses tune-up - but if I ever need another round of comprehensive testing or diagnostic imaging, this is absolutely where I want to go. read more

WOW. This place SAVED MY LIFE. One day after being sick for a week, I woke up blind. Excruciating headache and I couldn't see anything. My parents called wheaton eye clinic and they got me in the office within 1 hour. Upon my visit, I was told I need to go to the ER immediately as my optic nerves were extremely swollen. Thank you to wheaton eye clinic (specifically doctor Timothy Kietzman) you saved my life. I was diagnosed with IIH (Pseudotumor cerebri) in 2020 and I have been under doctor Kietzman's care ever since. I have been in remission for over a year now.
