This used to be a great place. Now you will wait months for a simple contact lens renewal. And when you get there it's a completely different department if you want a pair of glasses -- along with another long scheduling wait. Have been going here for 20 plus years but now I'm done. What has happened to Wheaton Eye Clinic? I had a cyst on my eye lid. I was told surgery was the only answer. When I arrived for the procedure, the consent form stated everything from blindness to Paralysis was a possible outcome, I refused to sign and left. A week later my cyst was gone and has not returned. I have lost my trust in these doctors. Time to go elsewhere. read more

You are required to have someone waiting for you for surgery 'in case something happens'. This is crazy. If they are not confident in their surgical abilities they should not be on business. They make people waste their time. Terrible business I cannot recommend. Complete waste of time. They said the surgery would take 15 minutes and I have been waiting over an hour. WTF they are totally inconsiderate and rude. Finally they call for me to come in and they want me to wait 15 minutes in a room filled with people in the middle of an epidemic. Smart! I have had been a patient here for over 20 years. In the past few years, service has gone down hill. I was told it would be two months for a contact lens appointment. This place is huge but they only have one contact lens doctor. Apparently my previous contact lens doctor(s) left this organization last year. I tracked them down and now have an appointment with their practice in a couple of weeks. The Wheaton Eye person I spoke with today was not very accomodating. No wait list, no other doctor I could see, and would not give me a few weeks of contact lenses to hold me over until they could get me in. If I was a new patient I would understand, but after 20 years, I feel like I'm treated like trash. Apparently this group no longer wants my business. read more

I ordered my son new lenses. When we came to our scheduled appointment they had sent them to their Naperville location. We went ahead and reschduled for the next week. When we arrived, they told us the lenses had still not arrived. We had to wait an extensive amount of time for them to arrive. The staff was also, not friendly!!! read more

I saw Dr Price today , he seems to be a great eye Dr, he was very thorough with me , very good bedside manner.

Stopped in for a eyeglass adjustment after sleeping on them the night before. The staff was great and got me in immediately without having an appointment. 15 minutes later I was out the door with adjusted clean glasses. Big shout-out to the staff for great service. read more

While they are usually good about fitting us in, the wait time is excessive, always! An 11:20 appt still has waiting to see the eye doc at 12:20. This place is a cattle call. The people who work here (techs and assistants) seem like robots going through a routine. No personality. No customer service. No smiles. I despise this place. The assembly line experience of running the gauntlet of check in desks and being shuffled from room, to waiting room, to room by cold and impersonal staff is bad enough... I took my 12 year old daughter there because she was blinking a lot, sometimes having a hard time focusing on things in front of her, and complaining of her eyes being dry. Dr. Michelle Andreoli saw from her chart that my daughter had been there many years ago for normal follow up (with no issues) after she was born premature. She seemed to make a snap judgement based on the fact that my daughter was born premature and informed me almost immediately that there were no issues with my daughter's eyes and that the issue must be cognitive (?!) and referred me back to the pediatrician for referral to a neurologist (!!!). I was incredulous. Instead of following Dr. Andreoli's advice, my wife took her to a competent ophthalmologist at another practice who actually examined my daughter with her own eyes. She found that my daughter had blocked tear ducts as a result of swimming several times a week on the swim team without wearing her goggles consistently. The blocked ducts were causing the dry eyes and other symptoms. She recommended a treatment of drops and warm compresses that have relieved the problem and related symptoms over time. I went to Wheaton Eye Clinic because I had cataracts. Known about it for years and knew eventually it would be time to have them removed. Wheaton Eye Clinic ran like a well oiled machine. Went in to one person to check for the 1st thing, then another person to do another and another. No long times in between. Finally I got to meet Dr. Janet Lee. What an absolute pleasure. I went through the list of Doctors they had. I narrowed it down to 3. In 2 minutes of my initial visit with Dr. Lee I knew I made the right decision. No rushing, explained everything to me. I knew what was coming and what to expect from Cataract surgery. She told me that I can have the surgery when I was ready because the cataracts are ready to come out. Waited a few months to give it some thought, but quickly decided why am I waiting for. Dr. Lee was precise in her explanation. It happened as she said it would. I waited some 8 months to write this review because I wanted to make sure it was all good. My recent visit with Dr. Lee was perfect. So it was time to write this. Did I mention after she performed the 1st surgery on my left eye, I had never wore glasses again. I've been wearing glasses for almost 40yrs. Just for close up reading. Which by the way she told me that might happen. Now, I'm no kind of writer, but I hope my message is clear. Dr. Lee is a gift to the eye medical community. If Needed, go see her. This is all my opinion, but I don't ever plan on seeing any other Dr. for my site. Wheaton Eye Clinic and DuPage Eye Center, and most important, Dr. Janet Lee, is were you should go if you have an issue, or maybe just an eye exam. I have been a patient with the Wheaton Eye Clinic for more than 2 years - they are more of an eye factory and are more interested in making money off of you than taking care of your eyes. As others have pointed out they waste your time and have different folks run tests - the doctor sees you for a mere 10 minutes and the exam is very cursory. I was diagnosed for having cataract surgery and was supposed to have been contacted by them. One month after my eye exam, I was still waiting. When I contacted them, they brushed aside the fact they had not contacted me and then told me that I had to come there with a relative or they could have a nurse bring me there and back at my expense. Every other facility lets you use Uber or a taxi service but these guys are money-grubbers. The scheduler was extremely rude and obnoxious and told me it was either their way or the highway - no personalized service at all. I have since moved on to another eye doctor and am done with this eye clinic read more

I have been a long time patient of Wheaton Eye Clinic. I feel they give excellent care when you get there.. However, in the last 3 years I feel they seem to have grown so big patient seems irrelevant. By this I mean in the last 3 years had to be rescheduled. The last time had to reschedule the new reschedule time. Calling in now has a maze of options which is annoying and if you get to the right option your on hold for in my case 20min which is totally unacceptable. Then the time spent there ranges from 1 hour to in one case 4 hours in which I was about to walk out. It seems that they are more focused on maximizing patients. This affects customer satisfaction. read more

Unfortunately, my experience there was borderline traumatic. This place was run like a drive thru meat locker. The staff along with the environment was cold, uncaring and if you don't fit the mold of a patient who does not anxiety, then this definetly is not the place to go. This place is indictive of everything that is wrong with our medical system. All it takes is a little kindness, compassion in these type of settings which is where they failed miserably. Instead, the place is run on a time schedule by staff who are robotic in responses and actions. If you suffer from medical anxiety, then do not bother with this place as there no time or consideration for compassion, empathy or kindness on any level. It's a car wash for eye procedures, My medical information clearly indicated medical anxiety and white coat syndrome so when my blood pressure began to climb, that would have been the time to slow things down and maybe a quick conversation about the procedure etc, which could have been helpful. Instead, I got the lecture about how I need to work with my Cardiologist on my blood pressure-which I might point out, I had been prepping for 2 weeks and working with my Cardiologist and primary Dr. The days before the blood pressure was normal. In the end, the procedure could not be done. No word from the surgeon while I was there, nothing. Next time maybe read the patients file and if anxiety can't be handled there, tell them in the office prior to arranging a procedure. read more

I have been going to Wheaton Eye Clinic's optical department for awhile now - Nick is one of the best I have dealt with. I went to Nick because my dad recommended him and has worked with Nick for years when it comes to getting glasses. I can walk in anytime into the optical department and get my glasses adjusted to my face which is great because sometimes they get loose and fall right off of my face. Plus Nick was great in helping me get a good deal on my pair of glasses and two pairs of sunglasses. I cannot thank him enough for that! read more

This is a factory experience. In trying to explain issues to the technician she did not want to listen, or to slow down to listen, to my concerns. Moreover she was rude. Her failure to wash, or sanitize, her hands in advance of touching my face only speaks to broader lack of training and quality control issues. I raised these concern to the supervisor and ended the appointment prior to seeing the doctor. This is the first medical appoint in 30 years where I have walked out of the office. read more

Good doctors but horrible billing department. They will ask you to pay the co-paymenet even if it is fully covered by Medicare. Then after 3 or 4 months, they'll send you a refund check. Don't understand why I have to pay when I go there and then they refund it. Try asking that question, theyll try to defend their system instead of taking the feedback and improving it. read more

I recently had 2 surgeries with Dr. Kang. The 1st was to remove Salzman's nodules last October and cataract surgery 2 weeks ago in February, 2022. Both surgeries were excellent! Dr. Kang is very patient, caring and explains everything very well before to prepare you and follows up with you after and even returned phone calls with any questions. Many surgeons only care about the part of the body being operated on, Dr. Kang cares about you as a patient and wants you to be comfortable. Thank you Dr. Kang! I didn't realize how bad my vision was before my cataract was removed. I can see excellent now. It is like the difference between looking out a dirty stained window and then looking out a window after it's been cleaned. Colors are so bright and crisp now. So if you need an excellent surgeon, I highly recommend Dr. Kang. read more

We've lived in Wheaton since 1986 and I've been wearing gas permeable hard contacts for about 45 years. I also have a family history of serious retina issues. I feel very fortunate to live within walking distance of the Wheaton Eye Clinic. They are in a class by themselves for detecting and treating the eyes. They responded well to Covid with strict protocols for wearing masks and other behaviors while in the facility. Nobody likes to visit doctors, but I feel confident of receiving the best care when I walk into their door. Keep up the great work! read more

I contacted WEC on Monday Feb 22, 2021 and reported vision problems. The doctor advised me to call WEC the next day to make an appointment. When I went to that appointment a different ophthalmologist said to go directly to the ER @ Central DuPage Hospital. I was diagnosed with a minor stroke. WEC misdiagnosed my situation which could have resulted in an entirely different outcome. These are trained ophthalmologists and should know the symptoms of a stoke! As a follow-up I contacted WEC the following week and spoke to their "patient advocate" who made excuses, was defensive and made it look like it was my fault. One statement made was "welcome to the world of telemedicine! In fairness the representative said they would try and do better, but this type of mistake is serious. I also wrote a letter to the board of directors but have heard nothing back but silence. I cannot trust WEC any more and advise others to check carefully for options. read more

Really sad how much they have changed...for the worst. Wheaton eye clinic runs on a reputation that was built decades ago...but the TRUTH today is they are poorly run, don't care about the human factor, and treat their patients like a number not a person. They run as many folks through like a machine, they don't actually care about their patients when there is an issue. They actually burned my 82 year old mothers eyes and refused to do anything to help. They are burning red on the lash line as well as the whites of her eyes, very painful. They told her to flush them and just wait for it just to get better. When it didn't get better, still burning, we called and asked to be seen same day or next. The triage manager was super rude and said they already told us what to do and refused to get us in soon because, she said "the time the symptoms have been there indicates to them that this isn't an emergency". Really???? They are the ones who told us to flush and wait!! We even begged, explained the eyes are burning and it worries us to wait any longer. This is effecting sight, driving, etc., and what about permanent damage? What will they do if this is causing permanent damage? The triage manager didn't care. They do not get paid again for a triage appointment to fix damage they did during the paid appointment. Their interest is in the patients they haven't seen already so they can get paid, over fixing damage they caused to a human being. Again, you're just a number to them, just like cattle. I don't know if they have a monopoly for services or what, BUT THE OFFICE STAFF AT THIS SPECIFIC LOCATION SUCKS. unfortunately I have to include everyone in administration. Apparently they have NO interpersonal communications or CRM system (for patient notes), between the various departments: scheduling, Dupage Surgery, billing or insurance, because if you ask a question, NOBODY ever knows anything. They seem either lazy or incompetent when asked questions they should know the answers to. They're ALWAYS referring me to other departments. Or I'm on hold for extreme long periods of time. Today's experience was no different. I was transferred to 4 different departments with no resolve to my issue or concern. leaving me to do their job for them. This information should be readily available and on hand. I'm looking forward to the day they're replaced with a better service provider with better customer service and a competent staff. read more

I have been coming to Wheaton Eye Clinic for over 20 years. I overlooked the long wait times because of overbooking appointments and very rude staff because I thought I was seeing a professional optomologist. I was overdue for my check up because of the pandemic so I finally made it in to see doctor Stephen Geiser. When he entered the room I asked a simple question about why I didn't get my glasses checked and the prescription I would need for new glasses. I always take the new prescription somewhere else and get frames. He stated that they never do that and acted like he didn't know what I was talking about. Than he writes on a piece of paper " refraction"- and says that's what they do to get the new prescription but since my eyes were dilated already they couldn't do it. He angrily finished my exam and left the room. Very unprofessional. All this upset me greatly!! He was mad because I don't get my glasses at their eye center I think. After over 20 years of going to WEC I won't be back. I don't trust him anymore because he lied to me and tried to cover it up. He's more interested in money than helping his patients. read more

I brought my son's glasses in for a repair and while the repair was free the customer service was lacking. The receptionist was on the phone when I arrived, but three other employees at their desks sat there quietly ignoring me. When the receptionist finished her phone call she also ignored me until finally an employee said loudly "you need to check in." I replied "I believe the receptionist is on the phone." The receptionist then spoke up "no I'm not." All the employees let me stand in the middle of store for a few minutes completely ignoring me. read more

We referred to Wheaton Eye for my wife's cataract surgery by our Optometrist who is not affiliated with Wheaton Eye. She had referred her own mother there, so we were confident it was the best choice. I went into this with great trepidation, as we had experienced unpleasantness with Wheaton Eye some years ago with my wife's mother. Communication inside the organization is abysmal. The doctor was very nice and my wife had confidence in him. The results were positive and my wife is well on her way to better vision. The road to get there was unnecessarily problematic. We live in Huntley. A fact made clear to every single person we spoke with; additionally, on at least 3 different occasions we were required to complete a health background/current medication regarding my wife. Now, we fully understand that our distance from the clinic isn't their issue and that surgeries almost always occur in the morning. However, in every conversation leading up to the actual surgery we were assured that "timing" wouldn't be an issue and they would be able to accommodate us. Surgery was scheduled earlier than we would have preferred, but we anticipated that, despite what we were told. After surgery, the nurse was going over various things and two problems occurred: First, the follow up appointment was scheduled for the next morning at 7:30AM. Now, anyone who had any experience with surgical follow ups knows that, unless there are complications, this would be a 5 minute conversation. Something easily accomplished on the phone. The nurse tried to push back, but I explained that there was ZERO chance we'd be there the following morning. She disappeared and acquiesced upon return. When I told her that we could have handled the entire thing differently if we'd been told that ahead of time, she waved me off. Annoyingly unprofessional. Secondly, 3 prescriptions had been ordered and mailed to us preemptively. Post-op, the nurse reviewed my wife's medical history and asked, "You've been diagnosed with RA? You see a special doctor?" Again, this had been shared 3 times in prior conversations, but came as a surprise at this point. Again, she disappeared. Upon her return, she crossed one of the drops off and said, you won't be using this one because of your RA. I said, you are aware that the has already been ordered, paid for and sent to us? "Yes," was her reply. No apology. Nothing. The place runs like a factory. The outcome was positive. The experience left much to be desired. read more

We often take the time to write the negative but I felt strongly enough this morning to write the positive. I went in for a consultation yesterday [after driving 2 hours] and honestly everyone there couldn't have been nicer. With the number of negative reviews I read, I had my reservations and my guard up. The receptionist couldn't have been nicer to me, even with my information coming up 'declined' she was finally able to get it to come up and all was good, but she kept her cool. The gals who called me in and went thru my history were very pleasant and then, I am brought in [by another nice gal,] to meet Mr. Pak. What an overall friendly and personable guy. He always called me by my name and pointed out things [I suppose I already knew but didn't want to hear] and even after telling me he couldn't help me with my issue, he was kind enough to recommend me to someone else. I really wish I could have used him as my doctor since I truly enjoyed his bed side manner. Sometimes it's folks needing to not blame the mirror but rather, fix the reflection. Thank you Dr. Barbara J. Andreoli for diagnosing my 7 year old niece with severe astigmatism, "the worst vision you have ever seen," and stating she had to wear an eye patch all in front of her! My niece has been crying all day about what YOU did! This disgusts me! As a health professional my self, I find this completely inappropriate and should have been conversed privately with her mother! The doctor here are first rate, their business practices are unethical and deceitful. Visited the doctor for routine diabetic eye exam. As they always do, without asking, they also did a refraction, which they know is not covered by most Medicare plans. Then the doctor says I need a laser treatment to follow up on my cataracts of 10 years ago. I literally step across the hall from the exam room into small closet with machine that looks just like machine in the exam room. There 5 minutes tops. They bill the insurance company $3,000. They claim the closet is a "Surgical Center". So the insurance company says the work is work #310.00 and pay $65.00. Because it is surgical center I have $245 copay. I mail in my $245.00 to the doctors office. They return it saying I do not owe them anything. Then they report me to debt collection agency for non payment. The business practices suck. read more

I wish I could remember the doctors name who ended up performing laser surgery on my eye to fix a torn retina. I go back for a check up in two weeks and I will get his name. Do yourself a favor and find a different eye doctor's office. I've been a patient of Wheaton Eye for 14 years and am finished being a patient. I kept hoping for a better experience, but generally my standard experience has been: 1) Waiting an average of 15-20 minutes to get through to an operator to make an appointment. If you leave a message for a call back, expect the call back in about 3-4 days later. 2) Waiting anywhere between 45 minutes to 2 hours past my appointment time to be seen by the doctor. It's extremely obvious that they overbook. At the last appointment the doctor says to me "why are you here, you don't need an eye check every year, you should only come every other year!" Umm....it was your office that called me to say I was due for a checkup! At that same appointment I received an incorrect prescription. I currently have two new pairs of eye glasses that I can't see through. I tried to get back to have the prescription rechecked and they couldn't fit me in until a month later. A month! The receptionist was so rude about it too. And meanwhile I can't see and now get terrible headaches wearing the eyeglasses. I went to a different doctor and they corrected the prescription. read more

As a patient nor 30+ years, this review is seriously overdue. I have a laundry list of medical professionals I see, and some are quite good. I've rarely had consistently excellent experiences with EVERY doctor, technician and office staff like what I receive at Wheaton Eye Clinic (at three locations!). Dr. Jon Gieser and Dr. Michelle Sims have teamed to provide me with care for the most important thing for me - my vision. They are a team of medical experts with support staff who are trained to be professional. It's a busy place, no doubt, but with that expectation in my pocket, it's all good. I had a billing situation that began with a change in my insurance coverage. Jennifer Miller proactively caught this, brought it my attention and compassionately helped to the ends of the earth to tackle all of the crazy insurance side of things. That kind of dedication is increasingly rare. So many reasons WEC is truly world-class. Very highly recommend! read more
