The brutality of DuPage Ophthalmology. My network is only recommending me to this clinic as I go to Elmhurst memorial for my physicals. It is vital that I get cataracts surgery. The front staff blew off my calls, and when I complained to them politely on the phone for bad service, these people now ignore all my calls and will not help me schedule an appointment. read more

Dr. Sheridan Lam is really an excellent ophthalmologist. However as I have critiqued before, the office staff of this clinic needs some training in social graces and in making patients feel cared for. It's a mostly youngish staff, all female, who make you feel rushed to get through with whatever their part of the appointment is about, e.g., check-in, collecting co-pay, doing the eye tests before meeting the doctor, scheduling next appointment, etc. when I asked to make sure my records get sent to my PCP, explaining that last time it took 3 phone calls and finally an actual in-person request before my records were forwarded, the staffer was more annoyed than apologetic. Even telling me where the restroom is located was done in a curt manner. read more

Over the last 6 years I have been to 2 previous ophthalmologists. I have changed services due to the office staff, not the MD. However, I will say, never before had an MD spent time with me, explaining why they are testing my eyes for glaucoma and why they were "watching" rather than doing anything. All testing was done in-house and results returned on the same day. No need to reschedule for a "testing day" as was the policy with my previous ophthalmologists. Dr. Gupta's commitment to me, as a patient was impressive AND his office staff was professional, kind and helpful, as well. I don't say this very often, but this is a place I would enjoy working. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. I have already scheduled my 2022 annual appointment. I have finally secured a place for my eye care! read more

I recounted a recent bad optometrist experience (elsewhere) to a coworker, who suggested I see an opthalmologist. This was especially important, she thought, since I had recovered from a torn retina and really should seek specialists when it comes to my eyes. She was completely right, of course. I found Dr. Lam via positive Yelp and Google reviews. I'm so thankful that I did! He was personable and very thorough in his exam. He explained that the blurred vision in my post-surgical eye (from the pneumatic retinopexy/retina surgery) was in fact cataracts. He indicated that I was overdue for surgery since my vision was so negatively impacted. Dr. Lam did my cataract surgery about a month later. It was deemed a success with at least 20/20 vision. Unfortunately, there was blurring over my lens. Dr. Lam explained that I'd need a follow-up laser procedure. Dr. Lam did this laser surgery, a capsulotomy, a few days ago. After resting/napping later that afternoon, I opened my eyes and had clear, unencumbered vision out of my 2x surgery eye! This is the first time I've had at least 20/20 since 1st grade! It's been a long 13 month journey with two eye surgeries and 1 minor procedure, but thankfully, my vision is even better than it was. Dr. Lam is very experienced. In my opinion, he uses tools to accurately and fully assess one's eyes. I felt 100% comfortable with him at all times (a little less with some Medical Technicians if I'm being honest..). He's answered all questions, often fully explaining/anticipating questions even before I have a chance to ask. He also approached treatment more conservatively; for example, he recommended waiting several months post-cataract surgery before having the capsulotomy since lasering too early could re-tear my retina. My capsulotomy was nearly 13 months after my retinal surgery. I'm thankful to Dr. Lam and have great confidence in his abilities! I'm so happy to have found such a capable opthalmologist. read more

This office terminated my client's service for no reason. She called the office to express that she was having a reaction to a new medication but the office staff refused to let her speak to the doctor about her issue. Instead they terminated her service, leaving her without guidance on her new mediation and no referral to a better physician. They didn't listen to anything by client tried to tell them about the reaction she was having. Total malpractice. read more

The office staff is the WORST!!!! I made an appointment for my daughter and the receptionist called to reschedule because the doctor wasn't going to be in the office that day after all. We showed up on the day the office rescheduled the appointment for and was told the appointment had been cancelled. I asked why and the receptionist implied she didn't know why. I asked if there was a way my daughter could still be seen since we didn't cancel the appointment; we just drove 30 minutes for the appointment; and since it was an 8 a.m. Saturday appointment, we had been up since 6:30 a.m. The receptionist responded "no" and that I needed to "calm down" so she could reschedule. We opted to find another ophthalmologist office with a staff more interested in being helpful and assisting patients than chastising patients for a mistake that the office clearly made. Each call I have made to this office was left not answered and I have been calling for two weeks now. Well if you can appreciate rude staff who I greeted and was completely ignored then this is the place for you. Upon completion of my eye exam, I was referred to a Dr Jergenson. Apparently this is there "go to" doctor and if you refuse to see this specific referral, they won't reply to your medical messages. On top of that, I was lied to about making an appointment with this referral who when I tried to make an appointment was told they don't see patients in the mornings only to turn around 20 seconds later, and suddenly there is a morning appointment available because I wasn't going to play their games and jump through hopes like a seal. With do many other Opthamologosts why would you patronize this dump? You've been warned folks!!!! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Lam for several years. Their office is a role model! i have not had an appointment lasting over 90 minutes. The nurse was thorough, confident, informed and very nice, like speaking to a good friend, who is also a professional. Dr. Lam was very professional, knowledgeable, thorough, specific as well upbeat, helpful and very kind. I felt I could have a regular conversation on any topic, not only about my health. Been attending since I was about 5 (nearly 50 years) - excellent doctors, technichians and optical. But beware of Tracy - office manager - she will over bill with wrong codes and is very rude. Had a 45 minute run in with her yesterday - just trying to make an appointment. And last two years billed incorrectly and unwilling to work with us or insurance. So just beware and talk to ANY one else if there are any problems. Jen helped me yesterday - Excellent customer service! Also Dr. Lam returned my call and verified we previously had correct information. So overall outstanding resolution and intial care for sure! Never had a problem in the almost 50 years until l encounters with Tracy. So your odds of great service are great :) Had longer post yesterday with more details but due to doctor call back, Jen's professionalism - I deleted that post and revised my opinion/rating. Update: I took my mom in today to see Dr. Gupta because he's my doctor and I really trust him. While we were waiting to be seen, I cruised through the optical looking for some new glasses. Karen, the Optical Manager greeted me very professionally and it was like chatting with an old friend with her. I asked some questions and she was very knowledgeable and straightforward. Well, one thing led to another and we got to talking about my previous experience there . She explained that they received other complaints during that time and consequently made some staffing changes. She apologized and explained that they are in fact all one group (the optical and ophthalmology office) and that this is not how they operate. This made more sense to me and I really am glad that they were proactive about making sure all aspects of the practice are run up to par to the ophthalmology department. Finally, I just want to say that this is a great practice and they treated my mom so well. Everyone there was professional and I'll be going back to their optical department for new glasses now that I know they're all run by the same group (and that they've taken care of the problem). I've already recommended Dr. Gupta before and now I'll be recommending the whole practice. read more

My cataracts were removed by Dr. Gupta at the DuPage Ophthalmology. I was very impressed by their operations and the expertise that they displayed. In all I had 5 visits, three of which occurred after the removal. It was a most pleasant experience. I literally was given my sight back. Dr. Gupta was most pleasant and comforting taking the time and patience to explain every aspect of the procedure from the initial screening through the various follow-up appointments. From the moment you stepped in, the professionalism and attention to detail is immediately felt. I was having double vision. For those of you who have never experienced this, it is a hectic and frustrating process. Dr. Gupta not only calmed my nerves but found the problem. My surprising retinal detachment led to Dr. Gupta contacting the hospital in quick fashion and restored my vision to perfection. Although I have an HMO and the charge for the Cataract removal was collected the day of surgery at Elmhurst Hospital, and BC/BS IL says all is paid in full, I am still getting a boll for an additional $100 from the office for the"LENS REPLACEMENT" in the eye the cataract was removed from. Why the lens replacement (with which I would not be able to see) would be a separate item not included in the surgery, I have no idea. The only explanation I could get was that the doctor charges separately for some procedures. How would I see if the damaged portion was removed and a new lens not put in place? In any case, BC/BS IL says all is paid in full . Dr Gupta was learned and kind during my initial evaluation and the day of surgery and associate Dr Lam very kind on my visit same day to check the initial results. Am satisfied with the medical services, not the billing as I have no reason to believe there is an additional charge after BC/BS states paid in full. read more
