This is by far the best eye care facility that I have ever been to. From the front desk personal to the technicians, all are very kind and friendly. They do their jobs efficiently and I've never had to wait longer than 15 minutes to see the Dr. My retina specialist is now in the process of trying to save my eyesight. Are you serious about their eye care? Go somewhere else. I was seeing a doctor here and was let down - because of medical information is personal I cannot reveal more details. Even after I told the doctor something was not right with my eye the doctor did not seem to listen or understand what I was trying to say, and he continued with routine cookie cutter statements, handed me a printed brochure and made no correct diagnosis. In another instance, I ran out of eye medication and wanted the doc to call in the prescription to Walgreens Pharmacy ASAP. But I was not able to reach the doc on the phone so I left a message; then went to the Wheaton Eye Clinic personally and the front desk clerks brushed me off. Then I called again and call went to another clerk at the front desk who promised that the doc will call in the prescriton "as soon as she can." No action even after two days just to get a critical prescription called in. Incompetent and uncaring for patients. read more

I have been to Wheaton Eye Clinic over the years with some eye issues. I have always been very pleased. I had never used them to have my eyes checked until this time. I was so disappointed in the exam. To start with the girl who checked me on the machines and the general exam didn't know what she was doing. She asked for help several times from another person. I know she skipped parts of the exam because she couldn't figure it out and didn't want to keep asking for help. I thought the Dr. would review everything so I felt it would be a complete exam. If Dr. Mickelson looked in my eye about a minute and said everything is fine. I said I had shingles in my right eye and there was scare tissue. He said he didn't see anything he didn't even look again. It was a total waste of time. My husband had the same experience. He had some issues but nothing was addressed. Now we are wondering where to go as our old Dr. has retired and that is why we went to Wheaton Eye Clinic in the first place. read more

Very disappointed in this Clinic. I realize they have 48 hour cancellation policy - you have to sign this agreement when you arrive - but when I called to reschedule an appointment for my daughter with not quite 48 hours notice, as a courtesy, I think the receptionist could have warned me that we would be charged if we didn't keep that appointment. We would have found some way to make the appointment. So yes, we did get charged $50 and I immediately called to cancel all subsequent appointments with this Clinic. Thankfully, there are plenty of other outstanding, more kid-friendly, eye clinics in the area and we've had no trouble getting referrals. As a few others have noted here, Wheaton Eye Clinic is huge and to us feels like a factory - it's an enormous facility and you have to see at least 3 administrators before you're done. Always lines and not enough parking. Customer service is average - all the folks we've seen before actually getting to the doctor have not been particularly pleasant - cracking gum at best, unfriendly at worst. Perhaps this is true of most eye clinics or maybe it's the time we tend to go (after school), but this is primarily a geriatric practice. The kid's area is very small corner of the office, receptionist unwelcoming, and frankly, a scary place for my 7 year old daughter. For these reasons, we were already on the fence about continuing with the practice and feel relieved to go elsewhere. Just our experience, I know. read more

Horrible! I saw Dr. Andreoli for a basic contact lens appointment. I was charged $200 and they "don't work with insurance." I picked up my lenses and can't see out of them! I tried to schedule an appointment with the doctor and they said they would charge me to see him again even though I piled them up a month ago. They never sent me the form I gave them for insurance and I had to call them four times for it! Finally they said they sent it and they did not. By the time they sent it, it was too late for insurance. They are expensive for nothing and I would not recommend them. read more

Welcome to the money PIT, recently had cataract surgery, surgeon was fine, however, no one tells you that it will cost upwards of $500.00 for eye drops for two eyes, dont we have samples??? or better yet, generics, also being a senior, they tell you that Medicare will pay some of the new lenses and frames, however they are charging $245.00 per lense, never paid more that $150.00 for same lense, so what that means they are ripping off Medicare and also seniors as in the end I went to my old glasses place that does not take Medicare and guess what it was a whole lot cheaper. Be warned. This has to be one of the worst big doctor eye clinics ever. It has a long list of failures. First, whats the point of an appointment if 2 hours later your doctor has yet to appear? I can only assume he either wasn't really there or the clinic has an overbook policy to make revenue first, patient care second . Second, I came in for a specific purpose which we discussed up front and they were pushing all the other billable insurance services to make money off me. Again, make revenue first, patient care second. Third, the nursing staff is so uncaring they could care less that they've kept you waiting forever while they openly chit chat about the drs and the weekend plans Third, a trainee nurse adminstered too much medication for dialation and all I hear is an oh well. IIm told it would be thirty mins before the dr would appear. Never saw him once.Fourth, as a patient walks out because of no service no one is surprised but wants to be sure your billing info is correct even though they've done absolutely nothing but waste your time. Again, money before patient care. I felt bad for all the elderly patients they were using to run up insurance dollars and wonder if half the procedures they were foisting on these innocent people were even necessary. I could go on but as the check out nurse stated you can complain but management isnt going to do anything. And beware they have more than one clinic and it has to be assumed the money before patients is a policy that applies to all the offices they have. read more

I went in for an eye exam and saw four people. One man just led me to a room. That's all he did. The first woman I saw was nice and personable. The second appeared to be an intern and didn't have much of a bedside manner. When I saw the doctor, he was personable and competent. I've seen him before. The wait times, as mentioned in other reviews, are NOT acceptable. I spent from 2PM until 4:30PM there and probably only fifteen or twenty minutes of that time was spent with someone actually performing some sort of service for me. I've never spent that much time in a medical facility--outside of, perhaps, an ER--and maybe even the ER was quicker. read more

The physicians here are 5 STAR, but process here is unacceptable. Wait times are usually around 2 hours. I overheard a receptionist tell a patient it's 1.5 hours on the average. My daughter eye and surronding area was swelling really bad. We took her to CDH convent care the day before but it just got worse. We called the eye center and they fit us in right away, found out the problem. The doctor was incredible with her, and the staff was great. Would highly recommend. read more

Complete waste of my time. I understood that I needed to pay for my replacement lens out of pocket and had been asking and verifying that I would have it as they expected payment on the day of the surgery. The day before the surgery I received a phone call telling me that, on top of what they had already been telling me that I would need that day, I needed an additional $600+. They told me to call the doctor. Several phone calls later and I had gone full circle back to the same person who told me to call the doctor without him ever calling me. Wheaten Eye Clinic is a surgery mill. During cataract removal the doctor didn't wait until the anesthetic took affect. Told him it was hurting but nothing was done. It hurt like mad. The medicine that was supposed cause lack of memory for the event didn't work either. Staff was unfriendly and pushy and not informative. read more

I called to schedule my appointment and provided my insurance info over the phone. Made the appointment and hired a babysitter. Got to my appointment then was told they did not accept my insurance. The receptionist said this was the third time this week this happened. So use caution when making appointments and double check with your insurance provider as well. read more

Don't bother trying to go here if you wear both contacts and glasses. You'll need to see two different doctors. I was willing to give it a shot and asked how much the contact appointment would be since the second appointment was not going to be paid by insurance and they couldn't tell me. I will start by saying something positive. Dr. Vorin (sp) is FANTASTIC !! But aside from this, I have nothing good to say. The lady at the front desk in Plainfield is nothing but rude and arrogant and this office is clearly about making money and NOT about customer service and/or satisfaction. I took my daughter for an apt as she was on her last pair of contacts and we needed new ones before we left for vacation. After the apt was over, we left to get her contacts at Costco (much cheaper AND hands down better customer service) When we got there, we were told that what we had was an eye glass script, NOT a contact script. When I called the office and asked about it, they stated she was seen for glasses. Well that is funny because she came in WEARING THE CONTACTS IN HER EYES, stated they were her last pair AND had to take them out for the exam. I spoke to the Admin Assistant (Sandra) who stated she would get to the bottom of it and call me back. She did call me back two or three times stating she was "working on it" but THREE WEEKS later called and said "we can get you a same day apt for 122.00 ADDITIONAL dollars?!? WHAT?! My daughter came in for contacts. you gave her an eye glass script and now you want more money. Sandra "apologized" and said I could choose "whatever office I want." Um, thank you but we will NEVER go back!!!. When I called back to talk to the head manager, the reception kindly stated (keep in mind I never gave her my name so they must have caller ID) he is unavailable, but "he wants me to tell you he supports whatever Sandra says." ARE YOU KIDDING ME? He didn't even take the time and speak with me. I personally have been a patient for 25 years and He would not take 2 minutes to come to the phone??? There is absolutely no customer service and only incompetence at this place. Oh, and they aren't so good following HIPPA, either. so if you want privacy AND good customer service, I strongly encourage you to go elsewhere !!! read more

I'm a new patient and I called to make an appointment. The girl "Noel" that was taking care of me was very rude and had an attitude problem. When I mentioned to her that my husband schedule is never same and is complicated she had an issue with scheduling me. I'm reconsidering of even going here, if I'm getting attitude over the phone how will my service be once I get there? Even spelled my completely wrong until I spoke to another lady that was very nice and helpful and corrected the spelling of my name. Well, I need to go here because of the condition of my eyes, but since I have to get my eyes dilated for my procedures I prefer an evening appointment. First available -- July 29th!!! That's 2 1/2 months away. Doctor who does evening appointments is on maternity leave. My eye doctor had moved and I was having problems with very red eyes every day for months. On my primary's recommendation I went to Wheaton Eye clinic. My experience is pretty much a repeat of all the other reviews. I was first checked in at the row of front desks. I filled out some paper work and took a seat in the waiting area. It is a huge area and names are being called out every few minutes. I was called and taken to a room where I gave the technician a run down of my issues. She took the information and asked a few questions then sent me back to the waiting room to be called. I was called a few minutes later by another technician and taken to a different room. There I was given the usual eye exam, had my glasses checked etc. She put drops in my eyes to dilate them. I was taken to another room and told to wait for the doctor. She said I needed a few minutes for the dilation to kick in. Fine. I waited, and waited, and after nearly a half hour stuck my head out and asked what was happening. A very nice nurse or perhaps technician told me I was in the wrong area and this wasn't where I would be seen by my doctor. She took me to the correct area and explained at the desk I should be seen next (there were several people waiting). They called me next, but of course I had to wait in another room for the doctor to finish up with her patient. So to count, four different rooms and three waiting areas and nearly two hours of my time. The doctor was fine, but quick. I know Wheaton Eye clinic has a reputation as the best in the area and has numerous eye specialists, but if you aren't having unusual eye issues I don't think I would bother. I don't wear contacts, and have a very minor correction, so I won't be returning. read more

I went here as a teen and regularly waited 2 hours after my appointment time just to see the doctor, and this place hasn't changed a bit in over 20 years. My child had an eye injury and while they were great about getting him an available appointment, we waited over 45 minutes after his appointment time to see the doctor. They then dilated his eyes, and we were told we'd need to wait 20 minutes to see the doctor again after that. 60 minutes later and we still hadn't see the doctor again, even after I checked in several times during that time. It was very crowded, and other parents were just as frustrated as I were about the wait times, and when they voiced their concerns the answer was just "we're busy." Don't overbook appointments, especially for children. Making children wait as long as they do is unacceptable. read more

The doctors here are great, no question about it. However, everything else about the experience is a nightmare. Office wait times are excessive. Telephone wait times to make an appointment or deal with billing and insurance questions are beyone excessive. They are inexcusible. Also I had a very frustrating situation with their insurance and billing departments that was related to an office visit in March, which I was billed for in July. I was billed for the total amount of $106, which I paid. But upon my own further investigation I learned insurance had incorrectly denied coverage. I called the Eye Clinic in late July and they agreed to refile the claim. Months went by and finally in October the clinic refiled with the insurance and they paid up. So I was due a refund, since I had also paid the bill back in July. Miraculously, the Eye Clinic had no record of my July 21 payment. The Eye Clinic is still trying to sort through their records on this one. While the doctors are good, in my opinion it is not worth it and we won't be going back. read more

My father was a patient at the Wheaton location. Our first visit was in mid-December, at which time we waited more than a couple hours to be seen by the doctor. It was determined surgery was necessary. I began calling the following morning to schedule a date - I was told someone would get back to me within 72 hours, as that is their procedure. That never happened, in fact they never returned any of my calls! After repeated calls to them, when I finally connected, I was told the surgery would be mid-January, at the earliest. My father is a 93 year old man living by himself, who, up to that time, drove wherever he needed to go. The wait time for someone to call me back was unacceptable, and as of this writing, no date was yet determined. Maybe the clinic has gotten too big, and there is not enough personnel to handle the volume of patients, but that is not my problem! Needless to say, we have chosen to go elsewhere. My dad has been seen and treated within 3 days time! Wheaton Eye Clinic was recommended to us, but I would never recommend them to anyone!! We were handled in an unprofessional manner, and I wouldn't want anyone else to experience this. We have never been so frustrated with such obvious total disregard to the patient's needs. read more

Called appointment number twice trying to make an appointment. The first time the receptionist tells me they don't accept vision insurance--failing to explain they are specialists and my medical insurance IS accepted. After realizing this myself, I called back a second time, asking to schedule an appointment. I asked what the latest appointment available today was, and she repeated "today?", as if I said something outlandish. Their website advertises urgent care availability.... But she told me it depends, and she isn't the person who schedules those appointments. I ask her to transfer me. She states "that person isn't available, but she can take a message" for me. Again, for an urgent care visit...for my EYES!!! I can't speak to the quality of the eye care there, as I obviously cannot get past the scheduling/insurance process. However, they will not get my business, and despite my eye pain, I made a point to write this review. They should do much better. read more

I made an appointment 6 months ago for my daughter. We haven't seen any reason to follow up so we forgot about the appointment. My daughter has had the flu and pink eye this week, so an eye appointmnt that we didnt need as the last thing onmy mind. i got a reminder call wednesday night, and I called to cancel thursday monring ( our appointment was friday at 10am), only to find out that we had to cancel 48 hours in advance to not be chared $50 in a cancelation fee. I was never notified that it was 48 hours, and every other dr i've been to has been 24 hours notice, or they would charge to insurance, so i thought I was safe. if they are going to have this policy, then they need to send out the reminder before their cancelation time is up. I grew up going to them, and never had a problem, except for waiting close to an hour each time. The Drs are good. I was hoping for the same experience for my kids, but this is not the start I wanted. We ended up keeping the appointment, ( we are a young family and can't afford to pay for nothing, so we might as well get an appointment out of it). read more

I called and asked for an appointmentin the Naperville center with the optomitrist because I needed a new script and glasses. I was told I must see an opthalmologist so I said no problem. Then I asked if they take my insurance eye-Med and the scheduler said yes. I show for my appointment and the receptionist asked about my insurance, I said Eye-Med and she said, "Oh that only for a routine check up. You should have told us when you scheduled." When I told her I did she seemed annoyed and said let me see if we accept your plan. She showed my they take some Eye-Med, but not mine. She said that is the insurance company's fault not theirs. When I said the person scheduling the visit said they accept eye-Med and didn't ask whuch plan I had, she said in a nasty tone, "do you still want the appointment." I said no and walked out. I know the docs are great, but this front desk person acts like she is doing me a favor to let me see a doc. I will find another place that knows a little something about customer service. read more
