I only discovered the truth recently when a tire puncture hit the inner barrel--the finish flaked off in thin, paper-like sheets of wet paint. Four independent professional wheel shops inspected them and all confirmed it is liquid paint, not powder coat. An acetone test confirmed it instantly--the black pigment melted right off onto a swab, which cured powder coat never does. ​When I called, staff insisted they wouldn't use black paint, and the owner, Freddie, initially claimed they were fully powder coated. However, Freddie admitted: "We used black paint, but a clear powder coat, which is the same thing." Liquid paint under a clear coat is not the same thing--it lacks the proper adhesion and durability of a true powder coat, which is why it's flaking off bare metal. When asked to make this right, Freddie refused unless I paid an extra $350 per wheel ($1,400 total). Be very careful expecting genuine powder coating here.
