This is my favorite bed-and-breakfast in Lake Tahoe. The bedroom had a bed that was more comfortable than most hotels. I've stayed in. The room was warm during the winter stay. The view in my bedroom bathroom and kitchen area where we ate was spectacular and just magical to see this snow cap mountains over the lake. The whole experience and the excellent service and friendliness of the couple who owns the place made it exceptional. The couple goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is welcome, warm, and comfortable. The morning breakfast had a nice selection with some homemade baked pudding bread. I slept better in this bed-and-breakfast than most hotels. I would definitely go back and recommending to my family and friends. read more

We loved our time here! For starters this is someone's home so you'll definitely have more of an Airbnb experience here vs a hotel stay. At one point this was the only house on top of the hill back in the day when the original owner built it and still happens to occupy it. It's huge! It's like a German fortress. There are so many incredible details. There's also lots of rooms. The views of the lake & mountains are endless. The deck nearly wraps around the house on multiple levels. Wow is the word that comes to mind! Our room had Hugh Hefner mansion vibes and I dug it. So unique & fun! The bed was luxurious and who doesn't want a tub with some gorgeous views?!?!? Located near South Lake Tahoe and a short drive from everything you'll need. By the time we were leaving it felt like we were family with the owners and their 3 sweet doggies. An unusual review, as we have not stayed here (yet). This review is simply about kindness and customer service. Last minute we were invited to a (very important) event. I was hoping to find a place to stay for 2 nights, which is hard to do in Lake Tahoe. Eagles only had one room available for one night. So close! And yet so far. I thought I might be SOL since all the hotels seem to be booked up. But get this incredible act of kindness: said the innkeeper Barbara, "Don't you worry about a thing. Worst case scenario, if you can't find another place to sleep, we will give you our couch in our living room. You won't be out on the streets!" It is rare these days to find people who are just kind for the sake of being kind. She had nothing to gain by offering her couch with a lovely view to a stranger on the phone. So, in exchange for kindness, a lovely Yelp review. Thank you, Barbara!! May people always treat you as kindly!! read more

I stumbeled upon this air b and b and I'm so glad I did since the only other options at the time were in casinos. I'm from vegas, so I have had enough of that world, and was craving to be immersed in nature. Just a note, while I found them on the expedia search engine they no longer are using them, and you will need to book directly with them. They were having issues with hotels.com especially double booking them when they were already at capacity. The hosts running it are an older German couple with three adorable dogs. The dogs dont bark unless the door bell rings. They are very friendly and never go down stairs, and do seem to use the deck as the place to go potty. Upstairs I noticed a bit of a dog urine smell especially when the upstairs door had been closed, so the puppy may have had some accidents. Visually they keep the common areas very clean, and the smell generally was not intense enough to be a deal breaker... I also am a dog lover so i was pretty over joyed to play with the dogs. The couple was also always happy to chat and they were very welcoming. The home was designed by the owner, and the archictecture is wonderful, it also has amazing views of the lake not just from the deck but from the guest bed room I stayed in. That room has an older European meets 70s vibe for sure. Some corners could have been vacummed a little more and the couch needed a wipe down it had some random debre... Also the old bar soap in the shower had not been tossed... Basically little things that were not deal breakers, it's stuff you would come across in the average home, but maybe would be nice to be noticed since its an air b and b. Also some fixtures in the bathroom had signs of wear and tear... The bed itself was very comfortable and we had ample toilet paper and towels. They even restocked for us without asking half way in to the trip which was nice. The guest room has a private bathroom as well. The rooms all have locks on the inside, but not on the outside. I don't have anything of value I generally bring on a nature trip, but I know some people are private and like to lock their room when gone. The breakfast was pastry type items, cereal, bread, coffee, juice and fruit. No real protein, so if you are someone who needs something other than carbs, bring some food with you. They have fridges you can store food in, and I used their toaster oven and microwave to heat leftovers up. Overall their home is truly special and unique, and I found the price I paid for the area especially reasonable. It goes without saying that Lake Tahoe is beautiful, and staying here made my trip 100% worth it! The cabin is as I understand being kept by the owners since the 1950s and they're doing a great job at it. I was immediately transported back in time to an era where it was still peaceful and quiet. Very disappointed. We didn't even make it to staying here. I have always been a little hesitant to book a bed and breakfast, but I felt like I did a very thorough job of researching this property and it seemed so lovely, so I booked it. Hotels.com tells those who have reserved a room here to call the property directly for check-in instructions. First, I messaged the owners through the app to do just that. I received one short message in response "your booking for two nights is confirmed". No further instructions. Over a week before we were to arrive, I called the property directly and left a message (in my obviously female voice) expressing how excited my girlfriend and I were to be staying with them and to please call back with further check-in instructions. No response. I called again, no response. 3 days before check-in, called again, no response and no option to leave a voicemail. The day of check in, I call from the parking lot of the Safeway in Zephyr Cove where the property is located, phone rings and rings with no voicemail option, again. Although there was no exact address for the property, we decided to just drive up and check it out. I would have been in complete awe of the property's beauty if it hadn't been for the large blue TRUMP 2020 ENOUGH BULL$H!T flag flying in front. We were immediately concerned about whether we would be welcome there, wondered if there was reason behind the phone calls that went without being returned, and hoped none of this would be the case. The bigger issue, however, was that after over an hour of trying to contact the property during the time that I indicated we would be arriving to no avail, we felt that we had no choice but to try to cancel and find other accommodations. We ended up paying about three times the cost of this property at another (wonderful) place, but you can't put a price on feeling safe at a reliable establishment. read more

This place is so fun! Frederick and Barbara are wonderful hosts. The house is unique and cozy, especially during Christmas time. Fresh European style breakfast every morning 7-10 AM. Beautiful wraparound balcony overlooking the lake and mountains. The house is nestled up a small hillside in a quiet neighborhood. If driving in ice, have chains. Two little doggies will greet you at the door after a day on the slopes. :) read more

I hope this helps to balance out the other 2 reviews, as I don't think they were entirely fair. This is an incredibly beautiful and unique home. The owner is eccentric, but we liked him. The view is amazing. I doubt you can find such an expansive view almost anywhere else on Tahoe. See my amateur panoramic pic. It is super quiet inside and out at this property. The soap/shampoo provided except for one were previously used, but honestly, is that really such a big deal? Just rinse off the bar of soap before using it... It's... SOAP! It's better than an almost new bar of soap being wasted and going to the landfill after each guest. Our room: The Dungeon :-) I suggested he change the name to the Tuscan Dungeon to more aptly describe it. It doesn't have a view, but it's beautifully rustic with a Tuscan flair. This coming from someone who has been to Italy. It also has a private bathroom with an amazing granite stonework shower (though the shower head needs to be angled down more), and a separate claw foot tub. 2 of the 5 rooms available share a bathroom, so keep that in mind while booking. He does have 3 tiny, adorable dogs. He is quick to clean up after them. read more

Tired of cookie-cutter, nameless, faceless places to stay? If so, then you are looking for this place. The owner, Frederick, designed this from the ground up, paying attention to strength, safety, and warmth. For all of the kitschy decor, the room was surprisingly neat and tidy, with attention to the basic needs of someone away from home. The views are beautiful and the lake changes throughout the day, giving guests multiple peeks at the beauty of the lake and mountains. Full kitchen in our studio, and private bath. There are about 20 steps on three landings, to get to the lower room, so be sure to ask for a ground level stay if mobility is an issue. Prices are competitive. You definitely get the bang for your buck. It is at the top of residential area, so slow as you go in climbing and have chains if there is snow or ice. The hosts, Fred and his wife Barbara, are a treasure in themselves. read more

We found this place on Expedia as a dog friendly bed and breakfast, and booked two nights. It only had a couple of reviews, and none on Yelp, and no website, but we thought it seemed nice. We arrived to find an older man, presumably the owner, open the front door with his three dogs. He never greeted us in anyway and looked at us strangely. Immediately we could tell there was something off with this person. He looked at our small dog and said she wasn't welcome in his rooms, and continuously stated how dogs pee on rugs, rambling like a mad man. We explained how we had booked a dog friendly room but he didn't seem to care. Then he lifted one of his small dogs and carelessly tossed it across the hallway. At this point we were ready to escape but he told us to follow him to a room. But his mood quickly switched back and he started to mutter about how he couldn't allow us to stay. We told him we were leaving and walked out, and he proceeded to follow us and berate us and our dog. read more

Owner provide incorrect information about a rooms. I booked a room with nice view, for sure with private bathroom and it should be 495 square feet, but owner try to show me a room with shared bathroom at hall, almost without windows and so small, it was only enough space for bed and wardrobe. When I asked to show me another room, he showed me a room at ground floor, without windows. A asked about my expectations and owner told me that I don't need a view and windows, I should only sleep at room. But I booked this hotel for a view. In reality you have view only from a terrace. View is amazing but not private. I didn't stayed at this place but he charged me for one night. Would not recommend to have a deal with this person. read more

Throughly enjoyed our four nights at "Where Eagles Fly." First of all the views from the redwood deck are amazing! You get a 180 of the entire lake, plus as the sun starts to set the whole scene changes. Secondly the owners! With it being a bed and breakfast this is probably one of the most important factors in a stay. Fred and Barbara were great hosts during our stay! It was evident that their main goal was for you to have a wonderful trouble free stay! They both were very accommodating and friendly, but not intrusive. Fred has a great dry whit and Barbara is a sweetheart! After the first day it felt more like we were staying with friends. Their little dog's were cute and not a nuisance, they just wanted your love. Now to the accommodations, our room was large and very comfortable with beautiful furnishings and nice amenities. After doing my research before we booked, this by far was the best value to be found in the Lake Tahoe area! My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon to Lake Tahoe. We stayed in the small den, which was cozy and comfortable. The downstairs rooms have a private entrance which was very convenient. The owner was friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed having breakfast in the dining area with the owner and other guests. His dogs were also very friendly. The roads up are a little steep and windy but totally worth the phenomenal views from the deck. It's about 20 minutes to South Lake Tahoe for shopping and dining. Overall our stay here was amazing and we will definitely stay here on future trips to the area. Please keep in mind that this is someone's home and not a hotel. If you're looking for housekeeping, roomservice, and a hotel experience this is not the place. However, if you're looking for comfortable, quiet, unique accommodations with a friendly owner please stay here. You won't regret it. read more

This otherwise beautiful home with a fantastic view of Lake Tahoe would have been the perfect place to stay if the owner didn't allow his three small dogs in the home. They are ruining it. They appear to use the carpet and the decks as their toilet. The smell of urine is very noticeable in the common areas of this B & B. On both day of our stay, the dogs left their droppings on the deck. Also, I think that the rooms could be cleaned more thoroughly and fresh soap (not used by previous guests) and all of the half used small hotel sized bottles of lotion and shampoo should be tossed. It's too bad the place is in such a state. I would recommend booking something in another location until the owner gets his act together. read more

We booked this place after reading many reviews and were surprised at how inaccurate the reviews really were. First off I called directly to this b&b and gave the owner my credit card info and was told they would charge my card at the time of check out which is a normal procedure. I thought my credit card was compromised a few days before checking into this place because they charged my card under a different name! My friend and I were shocked at how dirty this place was. The bathroom had not been cleaned and we actually had to clean the toilet. Our room was dusty and smelled. Our "continental breakfast" consisted of dried breads and pastries. There was a dirty plastic container with cornflakes but no milk. I was told by the proprietor to get cream for my coffee in the fridge and it immediately curdled in my coffee. It was dated 2 months old! The view off the balcony was beautiful and that was the only redeeming factor of our stay. I could never recommend this home to stay in. read more

A very dysfunctional host. After making reservation 6 days in advance (9/12/16) thru Airbnb for the following Fri/Sat night and paying in full, I get a message at 6:46 AM Friday saying "is there a way you could see you not coming up Today but two days later?.. on the 18th of this month.. My home has filled up." "I have repeat costumers here right now, I have no idea while so many peo. " I of course am packing for the trip and taking care of last minute stuff for my weekend getaway. I have to stop and take an hour to find alternative lodging (at about twice the price of course). And finally get on my way for the 4 hour trip. Later on that day (12:12 PM) I get another message saying "I have not heard from the two parties who reserved a room here(private)For tonight...If you have problems getting your money bac..." Bizarre to say the least, and yes I did have problems getting all my money back. In fact I am still short $33 (and I sent him emails requesting the refund) which Fredrick says get from Airheads.com! As a semi retired senior, I have used VBRO, booked direct, by word of mouth and used many other ways book vacation rentals and have never had any issues. Beware! read more

OK, my wife and I just stayed at Where Eagles Fly this past Labor Day weekend. We had the best time and best stay at a B & B we have ever had in the Tahoe area. The house which was built by Fred the owner of this B & B is unbelievable. He built this house in the 1970's by himself. Each room and each view is better than the one you just saw. The view he has is out of this world. We watched fireworks from both the south and north shores at the same time. It also by the way was the BEST deal we have had in the Tahoe area at a B & B. He just opened the house as a B & B earlier this year. Fred is a perfectionist, and he does not like when anything is not perfect. I think that comes from his childhood and life. If you have the time learn about Fred, he is unique, and has done many things in his life. He will become a better host at this B & B as times goes by. The complaints I read on yelp as very unfair and not valid. The one below about the soap being left over is only because they did not know where the fresh soap was on the shelf in the bathrooms. The food he offers for breakfast is a continental style, and help yourself. The coffee and tea are fresh and great. Fred does have 3 dogs who were so much fun to have around. They never bark, and also want to be loved by everyone. The posting by Captain B and L.T. just shows he must not like little dogs. There is NO SMELL OF URINE, unless L.T. did it himself. Sadly my wife and I only get up to Tahoe once a year, but you can bet we will be back next year at "Where Eagles Fly B & B. My thanks to both Fred and Barbara. read more
