I stumbeled upon this air b and b and I'm so glad I did since the only other options at the time were in casinos. I'm from vegas, so I have had enough of that world, and was craving to be immersed in nature. Just a note, while I found them on the expedia search engine they no longer are using them, and you will need to book directly with them. They were having issues with hotels.com especially double booking them when they were already at capacity. The hosts running it are an older German couple with three adorable dogs. The dogs dont bark unless the door bell rings. They are very friendly and never go down stairs, and do seem to use the deck as the place to go potty. Upstairs I noticed a bit of a dog urine smell especially when the upstairs door had been closed, so the puppy may have had some accidents. Visually they keep the common areas very clean, and the smell generally was not intense enough to be a deal breaker... I also am a dog lover so i was pretty over joyed to play with the dogs. The couple was also always happy to chat and they were very welcoming. The home was designed by the owner, and the archictecture is wonderful, it also has amazing views of the lake not just from the deck but from the guest bed room I stayed in. That room has an older European meets 70s vibe for sure. Some corners could have been vacummed a little more and the couch needed a wipe down it had some random debre... Also the old bar soap in the shower had not been tossed... Basically little things that were not deal breakers, it's stuff you would come across in the average home, but maybe would be nice to be noticed since its an air b and b. Also some fixtures in the bathroom had signs of wear and tear... The bed itself was very comfortable and we had ample toilet paper and towels. They even restocked for us without asking half way in to the trip which was nice. The guest room has a private bathroom as well. The rooms all have locks on the inside, but not on the outside. I don't have anything of value I generally bring on a nature trip, but I know some people are private and like to lock their room when gone. The breakfast was pastry type items, cereal, bread, coffee, juice and fruit. No real protein, so if you are someone who needs something other than carbs, bring some food with you. They have fridges you can store food in, and I used their toaster oven and microwave to heat leftovers up. Overall their home is truly special and unique, and I found the price I paid for the area especially reasonable. It has some small things that have room for improvement, but I would happily go again and recommened it to others.

The view from the deck. The panoramic shot skews the perspective of the deck, (it's not actually an angled deck.)

I hope this helps to balance out the other 2 reviews, as I don't think they were entirely fair. This is an incredibly beautiful and unique home. The owner is eccentric, but we liked him. The view is amazing. I doubt you can find such an expansive view almost anywhere else on Tahoe. See my amateur panoramic pic. It is super quiet inside and out at this property. The soap/shampoo provided except for one were previously used, but honestly, is that really such a big deal? Just rinse off the bar of soap before using it... It's... SOAP! It's better than an almost new bar of soap being wasted and going to the landfill after each guest. Our room: The Dungeon :-) I suggested he change the name to the Tuscan Dungeon to more aptly describe it. It doesn't have a view, but it's beautifully rustic with a Tuscan flair. This coming from someone who has been to Italy. It also has a private bathroom with an amazing granite stonework shower (though the shower head needs to be angled down more), and a separate claw foot tub. 2 of the 5 rooms available share a bathroom, so keep that in mind while booking. He does have 3 tiny, adorable dogs. He is quick to clean up after them.

    Beautiful inside and out!

Tired of cookie-cutter, nameless, faceless places to stay? If so, then you are looking for this place. The owner, Frederick, designed this from the ground up, paying attention to strength, safety, and warmth. For all of the kitschy decor, the room was surprisingly neat and tidy, with attention to the basic needs of someone away from home. The views are beautiful and the lake changes throughout the day, giving guests multiple peeks at the beauty of the lake and mountains. Full kitchen in our studio, and private bath. There are about 20 steps on three landings, to get to the lower room, so be sure to ask for a ground level stay if mobility is an issue. Prices are competitive. You definitely get the bang for your buck. It is at the top of residential area, so slow as you go in climbing and have chains if there is snow or ice. The hosts, Fred and his wife Barbara, are a treasure in themselves.

And from the Deck, the expansive view of the Carson Valley is stunning and soothing. Every time I come up, there's the latest talk about folks trying to make Genoa a "Destination". The area certainly seems to do nice Wedding business, and I particularly enjoy hanging out at the Genoa Bar. There are also a few nice places to eat such as La Ferme. Past that, it's my sense that this particular marketing plan isn't working as well as it should. David Walley's Resort recently went through a management change during an interesting "quiet" period and the relatively recent "Genoa Square" development is only left with the Dancing Deer and a reopened Genoa Country Inn. The Genoa Coffee & Candy Company was the latest closure, with the rumour that the landlord forced them out due to complaints of coffee odors (?) wafting through the hotel rooms. Oy. The Genoa Country Inn has 11 rooms and is a nice place with wi-fi and the usual other amenities (including view). It's an easy walk to anywhere within the Genoa Town Site, and if you just want peace and quiet, this place may be a good choice for you. However, if you want a little "excitement", South Lake Tahoe is a winding drive over the Kingsbury Grade, and greater Carson City or the "Twin Cities" of Minden and Gardnerville are all easy rides. Just watch the occasional speed trap on Jacks Valley Road.

My husband and I were surprised at the size of the room when we walked in; it was huge! There's a large bathroom area, and tons of room around the bed and by the mini fridge and coffee station. There's also a nice table and chairs, a modest TV, and a terrific balcony with an outstanding view. Our bathroom, as well as the bedroom (and everything else), was very clean. Everything works great in the room also, and we had no complaints, except maybe that the bed was a little uncomfortable. My husband had trouble sleeping but I can sleep on pretty much anything pretty happily. I'll be sad when 11 o'clock rolls around and we check out. This Inn is conveniently located in the center of a town and area that I would like to spend a little more time day-exploring. Looks like an excellent reason to come back!

The champagne at check-in is a nice touch. If there's a line, sit by the fire in the lobby or the one outside while you wait. Rooms are good sized, especially the mini suites. I appreciate the steam room and the shared quiet room with snacks. The heated outdoor jacuzzi is epic -- I may have stayed in it for 30 mins. Massages are resort priced but excellent. Food is high quality and good variety. (Will review separately) Lots of onsite activities, especially during summer. Almost all of the staff are over the top friendly. I had never stayed at the lodge before, but several of my friends have and could not recommend it enough. We had a ground floor two-queen bed room. Everything about this hotel speaks luxury. The room was spacious and had all of the comforts you could ever want: soft, plush beds, a large bathroom with ample vanity space, large walk-in shower, and massive bathtub. The grounds of the hotel are absolutely breathtaking and we enjoyed sitting in the Adirondack chairs on the beach watching the sunset over Lake Tahoe. I love that they offer fun activities such as board games and s'mores around the fire. They offer morning, yoga classes by the lake as well as lawn games like cornhole. The pool looked wonderful, although we did not partake. This is definitely a spot you would want to come if you were celebrating a wedding or an anniversary. And I intend to bring my husband here for our wedding anniversary in October!

The room was large, but cozy and perfect for a couple. Our room included a comfy king sized bed, a beautiful modern bathroom with rain shower heads, fireplace, flat screen TV and a kitchenette. The kitchenette had a small dining table, refrigerator, sink with dish washing soap, microwave, plates and silverware. The room had hardwood floors and was immaculately clean. When I stay in hotels, I will usually wear socks and when I took them off, they were not dirty or dusty, which is usually the case with hardwood floors. The location was also very convenient, right on the state line. Heavenly Village was walking distance and so were Harrah's, Harvey's and Hard Rock. The inn is two blocks behind Lake Tahoe Blvd, so you get the convenience without the traffic noise. I suggest talking a flashlight when walking from the inn to the casinos. They offer a small continental breakfast which includes coffee, juice, cereal, bagels, fruit and pastries. They also have a charming little eating area with a fireplace. Looking at it from the outside, there's nothing remarkable about this property. However, where they shine is in their service. I felt like a guest in someone's home instead of a paying guest at a motel. Hanna and John were both so welcoming and full of great information about the area. This was my BF first time visiting the area. I have not been there for over 10 years so it was nice to have a tour guide. Hanna told us to contact her directly to get better room rates than what was published online. We were only going to stay one night, but she gave us such a good deal on the second night that we couldn't say no. We have already made plans to come back again very soon.

We've visited South Lake many times over the years and honestly had never considered staying here before, but now it's officially our go-to spot. We stayed in the Rubicon wing on the ground floor, and our room had the loveliest fireplace that made everything feel extra warm and relaxing. From the moment we arrived, we felt so welcomed. Homemade cookies were waiting for us, and we loved unwinding with a glass of wine from the happy hour bar in the beautiful lobby. One of our favorite thoughtful touches was the essential oil diffuser bar in the main lodge. You can borrow a diffuser and choose your own oil to bring back to your room, which made the whole experience feel extra special and personalized. The whole property is small, quaint, and impeccably clean, which made it so peaceful to stroll around and take it all in. You can't beat this location being so close to everything yet feeling off the path and quiet. The lodge is stunning and a wonderful place to relax, have a drink, play a game or read a book. And the cabin feels like a serene home with all the right touches. We couldn't wait to go back. This year we stayed in the King Suite because the cabins were booked. It was still lovely and cozy but more modern feeling than the cabins. It's more of a hotel feel; wood floors would probably help rather than the carpet. It's different than the Hideout Cabin which is probably my favorite place to stay- not just in Tahoe. The hot tub is great but don't expect powerful jets and unfortunately the jets in the suite tub didn't work. That and the lighting in the suite are my only critiques (it's a bit harsh and the bathroom switches are confusing) Still, we are as happy as can be here. The added diffuser bar was a nice touch and surprise because there was a diffuser in the cabin last time we stayed but it's nice you can pick your favorite scent now. The staff here is also fantastic. Very kind and helpful. I wanted to bring our whole family here for Christmas after our first visit but they opted for a large cabin together. After a second trip, I'm even more sure this is the best place in Tahoe to stay. I'd visit the lake JUST to stay here. Thanks, Black Bear Lodge, see you next time!
