Whipped Bakeshop was wonderful to work with throughout our wedding planning process. We collaborated on a really thoughtful, creative design that reflected our love of travel and our new home city. About three weeks before the wedding, we decided to pare our original design back and simplify a few elements, and they couldn't have been more accommodating or gracious about the change. The final cake was elegant, intentional, and beautifully executed -- it fit the day perfectly and got so many compliments from our guests. The cake itself was soo good and exactly what we hoped for, with the chocolate and red velvet tiers being crowd favorites. About a week before the wedding we started thinking we wouldn't have enough cake so they added on three cookie cakes, which were incredible and disappeared almost immediately. Their attention to detail, flexibility, and professionalism made the entire experience feel easy and stress-free, and we're so glad we chose them for such an important part of our wedding. read more

One of the owners brought a bunch of cupcakes to the after party and I dug in not knowing anything other than damn these taste good. Ordered a birthday cake and it was extremely disappointing. As I mentioned in my previous review, I've ordered cake and cupcakes here before. This time was a costly expense that I will not gamble with again. I ordered a beautifully decorated vanilla and old fashioned buttercream 8" cake (that can feed up to 20 people). The filling was not sweet at all. The cake taste like it was frozen previously and they just added icing and such. It wasn't moist. The cake was not worth the $110.00 that I paid. There's still a lot of cake left and it was clear that guests at the birthday gathering was also displeased. Whipped Bakeshop is a place that I thought I could order my wedding cake from (whenever that day comes). When I was in a pinch and needed a fancy birthday cake at the last minute Whipped really came through for me. While they were not accepting custom orders when I called, they have an online shop where you can pick from a number of cakes that are fairly customizable. As you can see in the picture with the help of some snowflakes and 4 bought on Amazon I was able to make somewhat of a frozen themed birthday cake. My only issue is how wildly expensive these cakes are. For the below cake that did look pretty and taste delicious but was certainly not a work of art, I paid about $130. I shudder to think what they would charge for a fancy wedding cake. That being said I highly recommend the funfetti and the shop online option is a solid one for all my fellow procrastinators. read more

We bought this cake for my mother in law's 50th birthday and the piped message is pretty sub par (and squished together when there was plenty of room). The flavor of the cake and buttercream frosting was ok, but again for the price paid my expectations were set higher. The bakery should let you take a look at what you ordered when picking up before leaving. If I had been able to see the piping before leaving I would've asked for it to be redone. I used to love this place, but now it's awful. Early in COVID, I was told to 'socially distance' myself from another person who was at the top of their ramp. The employee knew the other person and chatted it up for a while. Meanwhile they let me stand at bottom of ramp for several minutes, and then told me they didn't have cupcakes left. Thoughtful. I tried again last week, and the employee said they now only take online orders...but their website was down, and there was no way to order cupcakes or anything else. Cool. Their profile now specifies online orders only, but without a way to get online, I'm not sure how to positively respond. I ordered a birthday cake from Whipped last week and I agree with some of the other reviewers that the cake was on the dry side and the filling and icing lacked flavor. It was a chocolate cake filled with peanut butter which seems like a difficult flavor profile to make bland, but this cake was. Also, the hand lettering of the birthday message was disappointing and looked amateur (for the price of the cake). One of my favorite bakeries in Philly. I have ordered Whipped Bakeshop for two of my birthdays and my sister's baby shower. The desserts are so delicious, and beautifully decorated. Zoe did a great job at helping us figure out what combinations we wanted and how many of everything to get. In the end we chose: 1. Was one of the most beautiful cakes I've ever seen. It was beautiful, moist and delicious. Second time was last weekend for baby Matilda's first birthday. We contacted them on short notice due to rescheduling our wedding as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and they were more than happy to assist with a quick turnaround. We worked with Jess who understood exactly what we wanted. Our cake was three tiers and we were able to have each tier be a different flavor, which was awesome! They created beautiful peonies for our simple and elegant cake. The cookie favors were custom created as well, to look like our cake (and they added our initials). Cake was VERY important to us when we were planning our wedding, and Whipped hit it out of the park. Our tasting was a great experience (even virtually during COVID) - we loved so many of the flavors, but eventually settled on earl grey and cardamom with a citrus buttercream. I ordered a dozen cupcakes for one of my coworkers birthdays a few weeks ago. Believe what everyone says, these are the best cupcakes ever. I got the limited edition cupcake box and the flavor of the month was La Croix Passionfruit and DAMNNNN was that good. They were all good...I work with lovely people who like to cut in half and share so we're all able to try the different flavors. Super accommodating as well. I had to order the night before for a pick up at 10 when they open. I arrived early and they let me in 15 min before they opened! We only got two cupcakes - one chocolate and one lemon - but they made a big impact on our tastebuds. We just happened to drive by and thought it looked cute so I ran in to get us a treat. Honestly the cupcakes didn't look that exciting - smallish and sort of plain and I raised an eyebrow at the $3-$4 each prices but felt obliged to buy something and boy am I glad I did. They say you always have to watch out for the quiet ones and what these cupcakes lacked in pizzazz they more than made up for in taste, texture and deliciouosity! What a delightful, rich, moist, old fashioned cake that would have been a huge treat on its own although we were more than happy to also savor each creamy and not too sweet bite of the frosting as well. Taste was pretty good too. I have a sweet tooth but it was a bit too sweet for me. But hey, it's cake! I live right by here so I come here a little too often. Whipped has always been there for me. Sometimes i come in here crying after I think i failed an exam, when its a special birthday, when someone is visiting, when its THAT time of the month...... the icing on their cupcakes are very light and "airy". When you first buy the cupcakes you have to watch out, bc they are not "made to eat right away". you have to wait for them to get to room temperature. if you don't wait, you will be eating a cold cupcake with hard icing. IF YOU CANT WAIT, i suggest nuking them (microwave) for like 10sec. DONT GO OVERBOARD WITH THE MICROWAVE!...from experience...the whole thing basically becomes mush .... My favorite ones are: 1. I go out of my way to pick up cupcakes from here. It's been tough to find a cupcake shop in Philly that has moist cupcakes. This seems to be the only spot that not only has moist cupcakes, but the flavors are great too. They have a regular buttercream icing and an amazing whipped icing (my favorite). My most recent purchase was carrot cake, banana/Nutella, chocolate/Nutella, and red velvet. The carrot was definitely the best, but all the cupcakes were good overall. Thanks to the living social deal I ended up with a dozen cupcakes for half the price. Whipped was super accomodating and was able to whip up (no pun intended) a dozen cupcakes with super short notice. I arrived at the cutest shop in the most random of locations. It was a confectioner's dream. The smell of baked goods in the air, people wrapping up perfect little wedding cookies. Which is when I began to ponder why I work in an ER where I come home smelling like drunk homeless people...but I digress.. Whipped made 12 yummy little cupcakes which I could have scarfed down right then and there (they were perfect) but I managed the urge to stuff them all in my mouth. They were after all for my friend's bday.. When we were lucky enough to try them I was thrilled with the lemon, chocolate and vanilla flavors. The only one that disappointed was the red velvet. I was very excited while driving to fishtown and venturing into this ridiculously cute bake shop. I saw the cupcakes and had to have one of each. We listened carerfully to the "serve at room temp" instructions and did just that. The longer they sit on your counter in their box the day you get them, boy the better they get!!!!!!
