Excellent desserts.
I. J.

I had such a great time shopping for yummy desserts today. I met the owner - Holly, who had so much patience while i asked so many questions about the plethora of desserts. I ended purchasing several of the desserts and all of them were delicious!! I love supporting a family owned business. I will definitely be coming back.

I stopped in at the last minute for some birthday cupcakes because it was the closest bakery when I was running errands. The cupcakes they had for sale were so pretty! They were busy decorating wedding cakes, but made time to help me through the process of deciding which cupcakes to buy. Lots of cool flavors like tangerine, lemon curd and red velvet. very classy place!

Do not miss out on this new up-and-coming bakery (used to be Sue Jacobs)! Whether you're craving something that day or are looking at reserving them for weddings/events, Whisk and Paddle definitely has lots of potential. The new owner and baker are lovely to chat with - bubbly, excited to help you, and just overall vthe type of people you would want to have a coffee meetup with. Their products are high quality, affordable priced, and currently expanding. Right now, their daily selections focus around full cakes to go, cake shooters, cupcakes, and bars/tarts, but they also do pies! Pro tip: if they have the chocolate cream pie, just buy it ... if they don't have it, then I highly recommend giving them a call. I can't wait to see what other pies and cake slices they will eventually offer. Stop by and check them out! They are also on social media!

4/13/24: What wonderful treats out of such a small store! We popped in this morning shortly after their 9 a.m. opening (after hitting up the Gilbert Farmers Market). Their display cases were filled with couple small cakes, eight different cupcake flavors, some dessert shooters, and a couple bars. Oh, and they recently started offering some drinks, saying they plan to swap out drink flavors maybe once a week. This morning was basil lemonade. In hindsight, we should have bought one. Darn it. There were eight cupcake flavors, we bought one of each. I remember six: triple chocolate, champagne, poppyseed, strawberry, birthday, and lemon. We had the champagne flavor for breakfast dessert, yeah, I said breakfast dessert! :-) It was light and airy, with a small dollop of whipped cream frosting. It was not overly sweet; like Baby Bear said in the fairytale, "it was just right". The bakeshop is tucked away in a small strip mall, which means there is plenty of parking. Both the ladies we spoke with were smiling and polite. As one was filling up the box that holds a dozen cupcakes, it was extremely difficult for us not to add four more to our order so we would have a full box. When I complimented the owner on her logo, turns out she hired someone through Etsy to create it. They did an excellent job. We will definitely hit up Whisk & Paddle again the next time we're in the 'hood.

Whisk & Paddle made the wedding cake of my dreams! It was absolutely perfect and exactly what I had envisioned! Our guests all loved the strawberry champagne flavor and were amazed at how beautiful and delicious the cake was! We are so incredibly glad to have had Whisk & Paddle cake be a part of our wedding and it will always hold a place in our hearts. We will 100% be back to the bakery for more delicious desserts! Thank you so much! Savannah and Joe

We ended up getting the raspberry puff pastry, the chocolate chip cookie dough cupcake, and the red velvet cupcake. Raspberry Puff Pastry: My husband really enjoyed this one. It was flaky, the perfect size, and lightly sweet without being overly sweet. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cupcake: This was my favorite! The cake had little bits of chocolate chips throughout, which was a fun surprise. The frosting was light, airy, and not overly sweet. The best part? It comes topped with a soft, chewy chocolate chip cookie, so it's basically two desserts in one. Red Velvet Cupcake: This one didn't disappoint either. The cake was moist with a nice cocoa flavor, and the buttercream frosting was rich, creamy, buttery, and exactly what you'd hope for in a classic red velvet cupcake. They also serve drinks and were offering samples of their prickly pear lemonade. It was delicious and super refreshing, but a little sweeter than I personally prefer. If you have a sweet tooth, I think you'll really enjoy it. Overall, it was great and we'd go back to try other things. Give it a try. The staff is also nice and provided good service.

As I looked around, I couldn't help but think that if I lived there, I'd probably be stopping in daily. The combination of a bakery and coffee house makes it the perfect neighborhood spot. Although I skipped the coffee this visit--it was mid-afternoon on a Sunday, and I wasn't looking for a caffeine boost--I'll definitely be back to give it a try. For this visit, we focused on the baked goods and sampled four items: the chocolate croissant doughnut, maple croissant doughnut, vanilla doughnut, and a red velvwtcupcake. Every single one was delicious. The croissant doughnuts were wonderfully flaky with just the right amount of sweetness, the vanilla doughnut was soft and flavorful, and the red velvet cupcake was rich and satisfying. It's rare to find a bakery where every item you try is a winner, but this one delivered across the board. Whether you're stopping in for coffee, a sweet treat, or both, this charming bakery is well worth a visit. I'll definitely be back.

Perhaps dining in is a better experience, I can't remember if they warm up the pastry but we took our maple, cheesecake croissant, and cinnamon roll to go. It tasted a day old. The croissant/ bread didn't taste fresh, almost stale. I opted to warm it up a bit, it was a bit better but then it just started feeling too sweet so I wasn't interested anymore. the cinnamon roll breading lacked flavor, but the cream on top was good. But again the bread dough just felt stale. It was a Sunday in the AM that we went. Not busy at all. Since it's a part of an apartment, parking is a little awkward and can feel tight. You could easily not notice the place and mistake it for being closed. It's right off of the round about. (the wind had blew over the open sign and the open sign wasn't lit) Service is okay, nice enough. Not really warm. Seating is ample and is cozy to sit and read or catch up with a friend.

The mug was really cool and AZ themed, so I had to get it. I picked out some of the cake slices as well as some baked goods! When I arrived, they were out of the Berry Tales on the floor which are my favorite. I asked if they had any made in the back and it turns out they'd recently made a fresh batch and were letting them cool. Assunta got me a couple of those and then helped ring up my order. She was very very nice and gave me an extra slice of cake. When I mentioned they were for a birthday, she also gave me some candles and birthday chocolates to put on top. There were so many options that it honestly took me a while to decide what I wanted! I really liked the self-serve bakery concept because it lets you browse at your own pace and pick out whatever catches your eye. They have a great mix of both sweet and savory items, along with an extensive drink menu featuring both hot and cold beverages, so there's truly something for everyone no matter what you're craving. Everything we ordered tasted fresh and flavorful. The pastries were light and delicious, and the drinks paired perfectly with the food. You can definitely tell they take pride in the quality of what they serve. The only thing I'd mention is that they don't accept American Express. It wasn't an issue for me since I had another payment method, but it's something to keep in mind before visiting. Overall, this was a fantastic first experience, and I can definitely see why so many people recommend 85°C Bakery Cafe.
