I mean my tastebuds need to be tasting something, especially after paying $10 for one burger! That spicy sauce was like a tapatio spice, kind of watery mixed in with mayonnaise, maybe it was siracha, but it was kind of off. Because fancy burgers are a thing nowadays, there is a lot of strong competition and a much higher bar than in days of yore. Super Duper is probably my benchmark for a good burger in the fast casual price range. I felt the burgers here were a bit sub-par comparatively, but still well above fast food standards. So I'm going to have to go with 3 stars, the "A-OK", because they were just ok for their price range. Angus Burger: The burger-to-bun ratio is seriously out of whack. About 1/3 of the bread is meat-free. It's not that the burger is particularly small, just that there is way too much bread! The beef patty itself is pretty standard in terms of taste and texture. I really like the pepper mayo, it's like they took somewhat spicy roasted peppers and mixed them into mayo. The grilled onions and peppers were nice, kinda like what you'd get on an Italian sausage sandwich, but way more were provided than necessary. Maybe they were trying to fill the empty bun space? It was also pretty juicy/messy; that isn't always a bad thing but it's annoying when the bottom bun is soaked halfway through your meal. Spicy Bacon Garlic Fries: I could have made a meal on these alone! Thin and crispy fries with loads of garlic, diced bacon, parmesan cheese and parsley. I get it - you're a food truck. Things work a little different. But, my issues with what I was presented: mainly - it's impossible to eat. Part of being a good truck is portability. One bite into my sandwich and everything was everywhere. Burger salad. It didn't help that the burger was served on a rectanglular bun clearly way to big for the burger - so everything just slides right out. My other HUGE issue - don't charge me $2.00 to add bacon to my burger and give me bacon bits. Either list it as such - or put strips of bacon. The reason most people like bacon is the added texture of crispy bacon and the flavor. In this case - most of the bacon ended up falling out and I really got neither. Not a hit in my book. Office had the Whisk of Wheels come by for Staff Appreciation Day... I never turn down a free lunch. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich. Its a towering yummy sandwich. The panko crusted chicken breast was perfect...thick and juicy. Great flavor. The serrano pepper and carrot slaw in the sandwich added some softness to the panko crust. The only thing that I felt was off about this sandwich were the dill pickle chunks. The chunks were about an 1/2 inch in size, but when you took a bite that included one of these chunks, the saltiness over powered everything else. I had to pick out the pickles. Perhaps having it on the side or thin slices might have been better. I've always been curious about Whisk On Wheels ever since they started appearing at Brisbane for lunch. The reason why I haven't tried them up to this point was because there was always another well known truck in the parking lot that I would rather have. What I have heard about Whisk is that the chef grows his veggies in his own garden (awesome!) and his menu is always changing. It wouldn't be until San Mateo Moveable Feast where I would get my first taste of Whisk. My original plan was to first get Garlic Noodles at An the Go, but since their line was extremely long, I noticed the short line at Whisk and decided that it was finally time to try them I ordered their Angus Burger ($8) which came in a Sesame Bun, and had Mayo, Roasted Pepper-Onion Blend, Sweet Roma Tomatoes with Baby Greens, and Provolone Cheese. The burger was good and had a lot of flavor, but next time I'll probably go without the Provolone since it really overpowered all the toppings. The Mango Orange Panna Cotta ($2.50) was delicious! It was very good way to cancel out the provolone flavor in the mouth. Now that I've had my first taste with Whisk, I'm willing to try them again for lunch at Brisbane. I've had their empanadas (beef and chicken) and while they were great, the star of the show was the side salad with fresh strawberries. My friends and I were fighting over the salad! The sign of a perfect salad is when you can taste the fresh greens and all the components without being overwhelmed by the dressing. The next time they came around, we tried their Angus Beef slider with bacon and blue cheese. Holy crikeys! Is there anything better on earth than blue cheese and bacon? I think not! The slider was well seasoned and prepared just right so that it was tender and flavorful. There was just enough blue cheese and bacon to complement, not overwhelm the delicious slider. Came to check out this truck yesterday with some friends who had a craving for empanadas. Some quick tips: It's extremely popular, especially their empanadas, so come early if you want them. It's extremely busy, therefore, expect to wait in line and wait up to 10 minutes for your food. I had the grilled chicken sandwich on a whole wheat roll. It was extremely tasty. The chicken was moist, and the basil, peppers, and tomato were all very fresh. Had the dark chocolate panna cotta for dessert. Oh my! I can't eat super rich foods very much anymore because my stomach doesn't agree, but I had to try this. So glad I did. It was amazing! Super rich and creamy. Customer service is very friendly. They were extremely apologetic when they ran out of empanadas and my friend had to order something else. They did, however, mess up her grilled chicken sandwich. They killed it with all the items and were so awesome to work with we gave them beer when they were done and told them to come dance with us. They only thing better than their food was their cooks dancing!!!! He went hard in the paint for about 3 hours! Another food truck experience near the office. Whisk serves up some tasty food choices; I went with the hamburger and it did not disappoint. The patty comes with some greens, peppers/onions, and cheese all in a sesame seed bun. It also comes with a side of home cooked potato chips which was good as well. The owner(?) mentioned that they work really hard to serve up healthy food and personally picks the veggies that go into the dishes. It certainly tasted fresh to me! Whisk on Wheels was outside Barebottle on one of the nights I stopped by. I figured it was a no brainer to have dinner at the food truck and save myself another trip somewhere else. I ordered the spicy burger and garlic fries. The fries were very good and I'm usually not a huge fan of garlic fries. The portion size was a bit big - we shared the fries and only ate half of them. I'd love if they reduced the price of the size, and reduced the quantity of fries too. All in all, a solid meal. Grub is good. Expensive, but good. Their fried chicken sandwich was excellent, but I'm a bigger fan of the spicy brussel sprouts. We're looking at a $10 fried chicken sandwich off the regular menu and $7 spicy brussel sprouts under sides. You get about the same mass for both, so maybe splitting sides with a friend could make it worth it. But no tax on top, so yay. Fried chicken sandwhich was nice - the slaw and pickles provided good variety of flavor to the moist chicken. Cornflake breading is a hilarious concept that sounds healthier but makes no difference since it's fried. Don't worry though, it's still excellent. The bun may look cheap, but the soft bite is worth it. Maybe I'm trying to be healthy, idk. But those brussel sprouts were REALLY good. Spicy with balsamic, cheese, hot sauce - a good complexity of flavors that leave me satisfied. Realistically, I might just get these on their own next time. Or maybe try to copy them and make it at home? Side options that aren't fries or onion rings on food trucks are always appreciated. I went to the treasure island flea market today and saw whisk on wheels was there. There was a pretty long line so I was intrigued. I don't know if they were short staffed today or what but damn the line took FOREVER! There were approximately 15 people ahead of me and it took me 40 minutes (not exaggerating) to even order! They should have a more effective order/pick up system. A lot of people were irate with the wait time but since we waited a long time already, we didn't want to get out of line (including me) Moving on to the food, I ordered the garlic fries, fried chicken sandwich, and Mac and cheese spring rolls. Food wise it's a 3 stars for me. The fries were great but I tasted more Parmesan than garlic. The fried chicken has potential but my sandwich was kind of cold. New food truck alert! At my employer I am lucky enough to sit in an office with a view of a small parking lot which food trucks frequent. I saw Whisk setting up and immediately called the number to see what they were about. Mattias first told me the specials of the day - red snapper and beef medallions. This was certainly not what I had expected from a food truck! According to twitter, this is their second day of food trucking, and it looks like they're still trying to figure some things out. The ordering process is disorganized, and the wait times vary depending on what you order. The beef medallions, it seemed, took the longest. Still, with the wait times (my order came out pretty quickly) and disorganization, the salad I ordered ($6.50) was fantastic. Beets, fennel, strawberries, tossed with greens and a vinaigrette, topped with a shaved hard cheese I couldn't quite place. Tangy, salty, sweet awesomeness. My coworker was a big fan of the sandwich she ordered as well. Hopefully we'll be able to see more of Whisk in the future, especially once they get all the kinks out. read more
