It's been a while since I've been on the burger hunt, while working in the city of San Carlos -Whisk on Wheels appears. First thing running through my mind are burgers. Delicious/Negative thoughts of what my burger maybe. Will it be juicy? dry? flavorful? weak? average? not worthy? salty? I guess I'm going to take that chance, upon standing in line: Patrons ordering garlic fries and Empanadas? Now seeing Empanadas and tapas on the menu, made you think was this going to be a Latin Fusion burger? My Angus burger came on a sesame bun with smoked pepper mayo, roasted peppers, onions, sweet roma tomatoes and fresh greens with provolone cheese. When I unwrapped my burger-it had dripping sauce from the mixture. My first bite? left me at the expression of different. I wasn't accustomed to eating a burger with green/red peppers inside, obviously it was not americanized. I found it to be A-ok. My co-worker ended up getting the Parmesan fries-Skinny fries in the house and shredded cheese on top. Nothing special, but not a soggy fry in sight.

Was hoping to try the empanadas they are so famous for but they didn't have them today. Love the name of the food truck very catchy but I have to admit the first time I saw them I didn't really know what type of food they would be serving. When I think of whisk, I think of baking so thought it was a dessert food truck. Imagine my surprise that it wasn't. So here goes, I got the: Spicy Cheddar Burger ~ $8 Genius that it is on a French roll because the burger stayed intact the bread was not mushy. Juicy angus burger, though I didn't really taste the spicy I tasted the smoked pepper mayo, roasted pepper-onion & tomatoes, the cheddar gave it a nice kick. Good burger! It was huge so I split it into two and I'm saving the half for dinner. Garlic Fries ~ $3.50 They gave it to me for $3 since I got the burger. Super! Golden crispy fries topped with garlic, parmesan, herbs and I saw them grating lemon to top it off, wow it gave the fries this zesty and refreshing taste. Loved that the fries were not too greasy. Alfajor Cookies ~ $3.50 for 2 These are South American shortbread sandwich cookies that are filled with caramel filling. I got one that was dipped in chocolate and the other dipped in white meringue. I was expecting it to be really sweet but it had just the right consistency and sweetness. What a treat! Overall loved everything I had for lunch. Whisk on Wheels is up there on my list of top Bay Area food trucks!

All this time, I thought this truck made cupcakes or some other baked goods hahaha. Appeared before this truck on a nice warm Tuesday afternoon. Looked at the menu and knew exactly what I wanted. The griddled chicken sandwich. What sold me was the aioli. Love that stuff. Waited in line for about 15 minutes with 7 people... Placed my order. Man behind the counter was polite. Waited to the side for about another 15 minutes for my food. Stuff looks amazing. Got the fries first. Garlic fries MMMMM. And the sandwich was a nice hefty size. Everything smelled delicious. Upon biting into my sandwich, I noticed the bread was not toasted which was just sad but omg the flavors were delishhh! All the sauces gave the sandwich the wow factor. Will be coming back to try the burger! I heard it was yum.

Because fancy burgers are a thing nowadays, there is a lot of strong competition and a much higher bar than in days of yore. Super Duper is probably my benchmark for a good burger in the fast casual price range. I felt the burgers here were a bit sub-par comparatively, but still well above fast food standards. So I'm going to have to go with 3 stars, the "A-OK", because they were just ok for their price range. Angus Burger: The burger-to-bun ratio is seriously out of whack. About 1/3 of the bread is meat-free. It's not that the burger is particularly small, just that there is way too much bread! The beef patty itself is pretty standard in terms of taste and texture. I really like the pepper mayo, it's like they took somewhat spicy roasted peppers and mixed them into mayo. The grilled onions and peppers were nice, kinda like what you'd get on an Italian sausage sandwich, but way more were provided than necessary. Maybe they were trying to fill the empty bun space? It was also pretty juicy/messy; that isn't always a bad thing but it's annoying when the bottom bun is soaked halfway through your meal. Spicy Bacon Garlic Fries: I could have made a meal on these alone! Thin and crispy fries with loads of garlic, diced bacon, parmesan cheese and parsley. Also, there was a good squirt of the same roasted pepper sauce I believe they use in the mayo. More of a starring role than a sidekick.

I get it - you're a food truck. Things work a little different. But, my issues with what I was presented: mainly - it's impossible to eat. Part of being a good truck is portability. One bite into my sandwich and everything was everywhere. Burger salad. It didn't help that the burger was served on a rectanglular bun clearly way to big for the burger - so everything just slides right out. My other HUGE issue - don't charge me $2.00 to add bacon to my burger and give me bacon bits. Either list it as such - or put strips of bacon. The reason most people like bacon is the added texture of crispy bacon and the flavor. In this case - most of the bacon ended up falling out and I really got neither. Not a hit in my book. The flavor was just OK - the harissa took over everything - that's all I really tasted.

I've always been curious about Whisk On Wheels ever since they started appearing at Brisbane for lunch. The reason why I haven't tried them up to this point was because there was always another well known truck in the parking lot that I would rather have. What I have heard about Whisk is that the chef grows his veggies in his own garden (awesome!) and his menu is always changing. It wouldn't be until San Mateo Moveable Feast where I would get my first taste of Whisk. My original plan was to first get Garlic Noodles at An the Go, but since their line was extremely long, I noticed the short line at Whisk and decided that it was finally time to try them I ordered their Angus Burger ($8) which came in a Sesame Bun, and had Mayo, Roasted Pepper-Onion Blend, Sweet Roma Tomatoes with Baby Greens, and Provolone Cheese. The burger was good and had a lot of flavor, but next time I'll probably go without the Provolone since it really overpowered all the toppings. The Mango Orange Panna Cotta ($2.50) was delicious! It was very good way to cancel out the provolone flavor in the mouth. Now that I've had my first taste with Whisk, I'm willing to try them again for lunch at Brisbane. There aren't many trucks that sell burgers so I think theirs is a good option.

Came to check out this truck yesterday with some friends who had a craving for empanadas. Some quick tips: It's extremely popular, especially their empanadas, so come early if you want them. It's extremely busy, therefore, expect to wait in line and wait up to 10 minutes for your food. I had the grilled chicken sandwich on a whole wheat roll. It was extremely tasty. The chicken was moist, and the basil, peppers, and tomato were all very fresh. Had the dark chocolate panna cotta for dessert. Oh my! I can't eat super rich foods very much anymore because my stomach doesn't agree, but I had to try this. So glad I did. It was amazing! Super rich and creamy. Customer service is very friendly. They were extremely apologetic when they ran out of empanadas and my friend had to order something else. They did, however, mess up her grilled chicken sandwich. She wanted a french roll and they gave her wheat. :( Overall, a really good experience. The food is really tasty. I would recommend and will return. 4 stars!

Another food truck experience near the office. Whisk serves up some tasty food choices; I went with the hamburger and it did not disappoint. The patty comes with some greens, peppers/onions, and cheese all in a sesame seed bun. It also comes with a side of home cooked potato chips which was good as well. The owner(?) mentioned that they work really hard to serve up healthy food and personally picks the veggies that go into the dishes. It certainly tasted fresh to me! I also had a bite of my friend's empanada, that was pretty yummy too. The empanada also came with a side salad. Perhaps I will get that for lunch next time!

Unfortunately, nothing on the Whisk on Wheels menu appealed to me. My friend on the other hand, picked Whisk for his first taste at today's Moveable Feast in downtown San Jose. It looked like a good value for $5, and it included a strawberry/arugula salad. After my friend's first bite, he said, "It reminds me of the flavors in my mom's spaghetti." I tried a bite and thought it was kind of bland. The crust was okay, nothing spectacular (and was that some chopped up tofu inside)? We might try Whisk again depending on what was on the menu, but we wouldn't drive all the way to Burlingame to get it.

3.5 stars. I was a bit sad. First, I was really excited to try their empanadas. Sadly, my coworker got the last empanada. I settled for the grilled chicken sandwich and asked for the french bread roll. SAD again. I got to my sandwich and found it was on the wheat roll! Luckily the sandwich was super good. It was also very filling- so I saved the other half for dinner. I'm sure they would have changed my order to the right bread. However, it took them a while to get our order out... so by the time they could change it, lunch time would be over! Like I said, the sandwich was filling and yummy... just got my order wrong and I didn't get my empanada fix that day.

I have experienced many a taco spot... and nothing compares to the utter freshness, flavor and bang-for-your-buck type of value that is offered here. Due to the Lenten season, my hubs and I were looking for a place that offered seafood tacos and this place was rumored to be the best. After stopping by on our way out of town recently, we knew instantly this was true. The aguas frescas are served iced cold and 100% fresh. My agua de guayaba and my hubs' agua de tamarindo were absolutely to die for. You could absolutely taste the fresh fruit for each. Now for the best part. On Friday's they have a special: $5 fish tacos with tortillas made fresh and by hand... complete with all the fixings. The fish is hand battered, made to order and served piping hot, dressed with cabbage, pico de gallo, and a combination of mayo and chipotle aioli. The picture simply doesn't do it justice, folks. Hands down, the best fish tacos in the area. 100/10. The team aboard this truck are friendly, quick and serve every dish up with a smile. Truly elevating the unique experience. While I was only lucky enough to stop for fish tacos, I look forward to future trips to Los Carnalitos for a sampling of their many menu options, especially the fried banana for dessert!! I had just flown in that day from Houston and I wanted dinner, but I was on central time and ready to go to bed early, so I didn't want to sit down in an actual restaurant. A food truck, not to mention a highly rated food truck was the perfect solution for what I needed. I couldn't resist the NYC Chicken Tikka Masala, because I enjoy all four words of that dish, so what could go wrong? The guy made it for me and handed me this thick boy to-go box, which I promptly walked to my rental car and opened up to see a 10/10 visually appealing heaping meal. And then I took a bite and.... where was the flavor? I took another bite. Same thing. And another. And another. Bland tikka masala?? How does this happen? After I had several bites, I came to the conclusion that it tasted like chicken dipped into water. There was literally no taste to the sauce. Was an ingredient forgotten? Did I come to close to closing time (30 minutes)? I really don't know. I enjoyed the pita bread and the salad concoction, but I will forever be bummed thinking about the alternative places I almost visited before choosing to grab dinner here.
