Decent food especially for the price and an extra long wait time but it's a great atmosphere

Great vibe going on here and the menu is very appealing. It has a lot to offer and the menu options are not limited to basic Mexican foods. I felt that when I compare the flavors of the tacos meat, (such as the Barbacoa, chorizo, and al pastor) they were far below the quality of similar restaraunts. Taco Bamba (though not local) has similar menu items and is a true example of what the dishes offered at Whiskey Taco should taste like. I will say I will be back to give it a second chance only for the drinks. This place has so much potential if they step up the way they cook and serve (service was 'meh') their menu. read more

The menu is excellent. Service is hit and miss and it depends on who waits your table. It's clean and very nicely redone! I think the service will improve but right now they aren't good with adjustments to a menu item or advising on spice level. You can always s request Ryan Pershing if you want your orders right though! He's awesome! read more

I so wanted to like Whiskey Taco! I get what they are trying to do here, and while the service is great and decor is cool, the food falls flat. I've been to several of these "street taco" type places in larger cities and urban neighborhoods, and the key to success for these restaurants is amazingly flavorful food, creative combinations and excellent execution. Unfortunately, Whiskey Taco has none of these attributes. I ordered three-tacos; First, the Whiskey Taco with steak and eggs. The small bits of steak were cold, dry and hard and the scrambled eggs unseasoned and flavorless. I was really looking forward to this one and the whole thing was just "blah" in addition to the main ingredients tasting like they had been made the day before. Next up was the Tinga Chicken. This was the worst of the three and was so wet and mushy that it instantly fell apart as soon as I picked it up. The flour tortilla had soaked all the way through before it even arrived at the table. A total mess (Id like to say "hot mess" here but this taco, like the one mentioned above, was also cold). In addition, the "chipotle pulled chicken" tasted more of Frank's Red Hot than anything, with the other ingredients simply getting lost in the "mush". Last up was the "BB" (beer battered) shrimp taco. Let me preface this by saying that I LOVE all things beer battered and have become somewhat of aficionado over the years. The prospect of combining my two loves, beer batter and tacos, had my hopes, as well as my expectations, pretty high. The biggest disappointment was the star attraction on this one, the shrimp. Either the person who wrote the menu or the "chef" making these tacos (or perhaps both) needs to Google "beer batter" and learn what the term means. In no way, shape or form was anything I received beer battered. Instead, I received what my girlfriend and I assumed was (and closely resembled) Sea-Pak brand frozen crunchy breaded shrimp, overcooked to match only the blackness of the heart of the person who had initially gotten my hopes up of actually being served golden-brown beer battered goodness. I'm sure there's a place reserved in culinary hell for those who dish out such cruelty. In addition to the tacos, I opted to add two sides and decided to simply double up on the street corn since it's one of the tastiest foods on the planet, next to good tacos. Once again, the execution here flat out failed. From the first bite it was obvious that the corn had been boiled before being thrown on the grill to give it a slight char. Roasted corn can and should slap you across the face with overwhelming flavors and this just didn't. I don't know... maybe it was because, like everything else, it wasn't fresh and was served cold, but really good street corn is a fairly simple dish to pull off, so when it's not done properly it tells me that the cook and the owner just doesn't care. Huge disappointment. Anyway, there's no way for me to recommend Whiskey Taco and that's a shame, because it has potential. There is nothing else like it in the area, and perhaps the lack of competition in such a small community is why they don't really try that hard to impress. We tried to have dinner here last Friday (Sept 20th). There were 6 people in our party. I called before we arrived to let them know we had 6 people and was told "we don't do reservations". When we arrived someone asked us how many, he said 6, he said would you like a high top table, we are all over 60, so we told them no. He said just a min. 15min later the same guy comes back and asked "how many" we said 6, he said, would you like a high top table, we said no, he says just a min. 15 min later we go to the counter and asked how much longer it would be. The guy said how many, we said 6 he asked if we wanted a high top table, no, he said just about 10 min, 15 min later a girl comes up and asked if we were waiting, we said yes, she said do you have a pager, we answered no, she said well you have to have a pager. She wrote our name down, handed us a pager and said about 10 min. Within the next few min we had 2 more people asked us the same how many, and would we like a high top and it would be about 10min, after waiting close to an hour we left. Sorry they couldn't get the seating of 6 people straight, after seating dozens of people. No way I'd eat here, their loss not ours. Our story will make you famous. read more

Last Saturday was the first time my husband and I tried Whiskey Taco. The place was packed! It took us a total of 2.5 hours from the time we arrived until the time we left. We expected this due to it being so crowded. Food was hot, exactly how we ordered it and delicious! Best cheese dip I've ever had. We went back last night and it was much less crowded, we only waited 5-7 minutes to get a table. The waiter took our orders and an HOUR later, we got our food. My tacos, rice, and corn cob were cold, l sent it back and asked it to be re-heated. They re-made food but when I got it, my order was incorrect. I sent it back again and by the time I had received it a third time, my husband was finished eating. They did not make any adjustments to our bill. They really need to step up their customer service, doubt we will be back. read more

Queso and Guacamole were both very good. The queso was thick and had just enough kick to make it enjoyable. The chips were warm, the salsa fresh. (We tried the regular guacamole, not the chunky guacamole. I'll try chunky next time) My husband and I tried tacos, tamales, and street corn between the two of us. The street corn was fantastic and authentic however the price is a bit ridiculous for a third of an ear. I was expecting a whole ear of corn, not a niblet. That was the most disappointing part of the meal. The whiskey taco was amazing, and a definite must try. The Korean taco was also very good and surprisingly authentic Korean flavoring. The barbacoa taco was good. Portions are spot on except for the corn. Great variety on the menu. We will definitely go back and try other things out on the menu. read more

I really wanted to like this place!! It's very cute inside, rustic but hip and very comfortable. The ceiling is awesome. However the food fell short... I ordered Pineapple Express (pineapple fajitas with carnitas and chicken) and my husband ordered Macho mocajete (carnitas, fried eggs peppers etc)... the mocajete wasn't warm enough to melt the cheese blobbed on top. The flavor was ok but the eggs were cooked hard and rubbery. My fajitas must have been hot at some point because almost everything was singed black on the bottom but it wasn't very warm when it got to the table. The carnitas had great flavor and burnt side aside it was pretty good. The guacamole is from a package, it had that twang from the additives to keep it green... yuck. fresh guac is a must if you're going to call your restaurant Mexican. Overall i was disappointed, but it's a clean place and i would try it again in the future. read more

I literally ate half of the two I purchased. Our server was worse than a sulky teenager. Never cracked a smile. Our go-to spot! We have never had a bad experience here! We take family/friends when they come into town. I've tried almost every taco and none have disappointed. Everything is always so fresh. The Whiskey Taco is my absolute favorite! Even during peak times when the restaurant is packed out, the food still comes out perfect. Their queso is unlike any I've ever had anywhere else. In fact, it's nearly ruined all other queso for me! The guacamole is always a good choice also. The atmosphere is great. The service is always amazing. read more

My wife and I have eaten here multiple times and have enjoyed the experience. Some of the flavors are powerful but everything we've tried has been very good overall. It can be a busy place and parking at those times might be an adventure, but it's worth it. Service during the busier times might be a little slow but the wait staff have always been very polite and kept us up-to-date on the progress of our order. Not sure how long the place has been opened but my hubby and I tried it out this past Wednesday after seeing brags about it on FB. Even with the place bring packed we were seated right away. Wait staff was very friendly annnddd because my husband and I are idiots when it comes to menu names. Our waiter knew exactly what we wanted. I had a burrito bowl and hubby had a burrito. Of course the names on the menu are differ. But like I said we are idiots Anywho...large portions. 2 ppl could easily share a meal. Ooohhhh btw the cheese dip is superb!!! The salsa was just a tad to spicy for me. But that's just me. Hubby found it mmm mmm good. I think he actually finished the bowl. Prices are great I think our bill was about 28 dollars. Really think this place has potential if they step their game up, but my experience was a watery $8 mojito, cold flavorless chicken on the tostada, all tostada's I ordered came missing at least one thing on them that I had to request a side of, and best believe I was charged for it. Decor is nice, drink menu is a little limited, no real craft beers available. Queso and salsa are great though. Seems like they're figuring out how to run a restaurant, but since the owners also own Tortilla Factory, I expected my experience to be better. read more

This is the place to go for slightly more upscale Tex-Mex in Teays Valley, though it's still very casual. They have a great environment and reasonable prices. I enjoy their molcajetes, burrito jimador, and carnitas burrito. The mixed drinks are great too. I went with a group of friends and this is my second time, it was AWFUL! I LOVE tortilla factory and drive an hour to go there, and figured this would be close enough. First, I ordered queso, it never came. Next, he had to keep coming back to the table to confirm orders. Next, 3 people in our group didn't receive the right order and one just plain didn't get their food. While telling the waiter that we didn't get an order, water was spilled on that same person on accident by a passing waiter. Within 30 minutes, waiters were spilling trays within feet of our table 3 times. We asked for the manager for the overall experience and we received nothing but excuses. To top it off, I had to ask for 6 people to get drinks refilled that had been empty for about 20-30 minutes. AWFUL!! read more
