We have family that love this place but we have never received a correct order. We tried a few times but decided to go else in the future (Marmet). Prices are higher than other local similar restaurants with some odd flavors. The place is very loud and is always chaotic. When we eat out we would like to be able to hear ourselves yell! This is one of the better Mexican restaurants in the area. Nice, roomy restaurant with friendly servers. I love the artwork on the walls. When I lived in Kanawha City, this was one of my son's FAVORITE places to eat. Also, I've had several work and organization parties there. They can accommodate large groups. Really solid Mexican joint. With so many restaurants and chains being given 2 stars around the hospital, I decided to try this 4-star place. I experienced attentive service and good food. I had the Pollo Asado and some guacamole. The guacamole didn't look brightly colored, but it did taste good and the portion was generous. The chicken was flat iron cooked and seasoned well. My cousin said this place was pretty good and I was in the mood for Mexican. Wasn't much of a crowd and I was happy about that because I was starving. There were no specials. We typically order a pitcher but when we calculated how much the pitcher was to how many cups we could split, it wasn't worth it so we ordered individual drinks. The salsa was pretty tasty. I ordered a fried chimichanga and nothing was fried about it at all. It tasted like a regular burrito. I'm not Mexican so I don't know how authentic the food is compared to the actual food in Mexico, but I can say that I really liked it. They have a great variety of food and a lot of things to pick from. I've been there multiple times now and the service has always been nice and respectful. Chimichangas, queso dip, and "Point Break" Let's be honest, most of the Mexican restaurants in Charleston are pretty much the same thing. What sets Plaza Maya apart from the rest is that it is much cleaner, the staff is very friendly, and the food is excellent. I ordered my usual chicken chimichangas. They were delicious. The beans and rice were also great. My only complaints are the chips are a little stale. Too bad they don't have chips like Chili's. That would be awesome. My other complaint is the restrooms are a little cramped. Oh and one big plus is "Point Break" was on the tv while we were there. Can't beat chimichangas with Swayze. read more

I really like tres leches cake and was happy to see it on the menu, but the cake I received was hot on the outside, and slightly frozen in the middle, leading me to believe that they cut a piece from a frozen cake and thawed it in the microwave. I went to a wedding reception here. Yes! A wedding reception! And it was such a cool place to have one! The wait staff was on it, bringing refills on the drinks and loading us up with salsa and chips. I had the chiles rellenos, and they were made fresh and were made with fresh poblano peppers, like they're supposed to be. The red sauce is so good, with a hint of cinnamon.
