Horribly kept property. Doug, the owner does not depict this property true to what it is. I thought I was showing up to a nice property in hocking hills and it was a shanty. In addition, the whole house was dirty, dead bugs under the mattress, empty water bottles lying around and dirt and dust everywhere. Only good thing i can say is he refunded both nights I booked.

This review is specifically about Whippoorwill Cabin. This cabin is budget friendly and has it's positives and negatives. I enjoyed my two night stay here as it was relaxing, but there were a few unclear details in the description of the cabin. Positives: - The kitchen came equipped with utensils, pots, pans, cups, bowls and silverware. The stove, freezer, sink and sink worked perfectly. -The T.V had multiple channels that came in clearly. -Towels for the bathroom, dish rags, dish soap and wash clothes are provided so there isn't a hassle to pack them. - There is a hot tub. - The grill comes with grill untensils. -The atmosphere of the cabin and area was relaxing. It has pictures hanging of nature and has hard wood floors (easy to clean up messes)! The backyard is just trees, but good for firewood. Negatives: - The air conditioning is a window air-conditioner, not central air. It is located in the living room/kitchen area so the bedroom got warm at night. -The fire pit wasn't a fire ring and is located right next to a fence which could be dangerous. -The bed is harder than a rock. -The hot tub doesn't have any head rests nor any stairs to get in and out of it. I used a chair to do so. -Not secluded, you have neighbors and along a road. **This cabin is meant for two people only**

My wife and I stayed here for three nights for our 38th anniversary in Sept. 17,18, and 19 2016. We look for cabins generally that are pet friendly as we frequently take our two dogs along with us. I know, we're pathetic I understand that. Back to my review. The lot that this cabin sets on is absolutely beautiful. Great adult pine trees in the front, and a beautiful view in the back of a rolling hill, huge woods, animal life and seculision. The cabin on the out side is very rustic looking and at this time of the year when the nights get a little cool the lady bugs and the wasps hang anound the wood siding looking for an entry. We met the owner / manager / maid of the cabin when we arrived and he informed us that he had just finished using a type of bug repellant on the cabin exterior and that would help keep the pasky insects from ruining our vacation. Upon entering right away you could tell this place could use a little TLC. There were fake trees and plants in pots which looked nice but had a lot of dust on them. There were about 5 or 6 wasps flying around in the ceiling near the top of the "A" frame's skylights trying to stay warm and lady bugs in every room. Normally when we stay in a cabin that is pet friendly, that means don't expect a lot of updates and this cabin was no exception. It was built in the late 1970's and it still had some of that eras wallpaper on the wall. The living room furniture was very nice but it was probably 10 or 15 years old. The bed rooms were well appointed but the furniture was showing its age. The kitchen had all of the standard cabin utinsils... nothing matched including plates and bowls. Like all cabins we visit and I'm sure like most people do, we leave extra kitchen gadgets for the for the next guests. Back to the wasps and lady bugs. We turned down the AC to 64 degrees to keep the wasps and lady bugs from flying. The next morning we found them on the floor. We swept them up and threw them outside. The owner had stated that that the area was having a big issue with lady bugs. The cabin is secluded as stated earlier but there is still a reminder that civilization is less then a half mile away to the right of us. Commerce, motorcycles, and cars can be heard in the distance. What is nice is a town called Logan is fairly close which was nice for dining and shopping. One of the more interesting things to note as i stated above off of the back yard, there is a rolling hill and woods. We hiked down the hill, through the woods and up the otherside of the hill and took pictures of the cabin which was probably a half mile way from us. The view was incredible and it was a lifetime of pictures and memories. Hocking hills is always beatiful this time of year and this fall time was no different. We had a great time in hiking, shopping, dining and being amazed at the beauty of the Hocking Hills region. I'm not sure if we'll stay here again. The cabin could definitely use some upgrades but the views are extraordinary.

    Garbage left behind the couch.

Definitely not handicap accessible as it should be but might be doable depending on your needs. Free breakfast is available but come with low expectations - there's a guarantee it will be muffins, bagels (plain/raisin), English muffin, eggs, biscuits, and maybe sausage. I did bring my own meat since a small refrigerator is available in the room and a microwave. Coffee available 24/7 but it's downstairs in the lobby outside of breakfast hours. Pool is there but it's small - so if kids are enjoying themselves then just keep moving because you're going to get wet. Pro - you're near Walmart and 17mins from Hocking Hill. Would I stay here again - YES! Customer service was good and had my room available to check in early without an additional fee. Happy travels!!!

When I first checked in with my troop of kids the room they gave was already occupied when I opened the door, the second room they gave me was disgusting. The bathroom door was locked so after we got that fixed the ceiling was peeling over the yellowed tub the bathroom door the chairs were stained and browned the carpet was dirty and worn down and there was a stench that made it hard to breathe. We would have left if it weren't so late and it was more than one night. We tried to sleep on top of the blankets with some throw blankets we brought because it didn't feel trustworthy but the room became freezing in the middle of the night. We didn't even try the breakfast we ran out of there as fast as we could. The pool room is beautiful, I wish the rest of the hotel reached the minimum acceptable let alone matched the beauty the pool room had.

We were only staying one night, but she called me right back to let me know she'd accidentally booked two nights but that she would take care of it and to disregard the confirmation I had gotten. We checked in yesterday and I received a text prior to check in confirming my stay of two days. When I checked in later in the day, I explained the situation to the man working and he was able to resolve it easily. The manager on duty was very active and involved in the management of the routine duties around the hotel as well as managing the event. I didn't catch her name, but I was very impressed. The staff was warm and welcoming well beyond what one might generally encounter. I can only hope and assume it's because they have a great leadership and support structure. It really stood out. The hotel itself was CLEAN. Very few to almost no signs of wear and tear or poor cleaning practices. Our room was spotless. The only thing I could detract from it is that the bed is very firm. We both woke up a little worse for wear. The back area is great, very peaceful considering it's located right off the highway. It's walking distance to a few bars and restaurants. 9.9/10. I'd absolutely stay there again if not for the bed. Oh, and also they have a little cooler by the front door where they sell cheap wine at essentially the price you'd pay at Walmart. And they have free cookies.

There was a light fixture above the bed that was CAKED with dust/dirt and cobwebs. Tons of dust bunnies under the bed. Hair in the bed so I'm I'm presuming the bedding wasn't washed. Hair on the toilet. Hair and other questionable substances (shampoo?) in the shower. Secondly, maintence or lack thereof. In the cabinet under the sink, there was a hole in the wall exposing piping? Tons of water damage everywhere. Ant trap under the sink. Cigarette burns in the comforter. The desk was somehow peeling apart. Third: outdated. Straight out of 1972. Old, miniature televisions (with remote control instructions written on a post-it note at the front desk). The entire motel was tomato soup orange and pastel yellow. All of the furniture and bedding was outdated and none of it was cohesive. Fourth: lack of amenities. No shampoo or conditioner. No coffee pot. No welcoming information or brochures. No pool. 1 vending machine with very limited choices. No WiFi. Also, the air conditioning in the building was off when we got there as well as in our room. It was 90° outside. Lastly, it was sketchy. When we first pulled up, a shirtless man and a woman (guests?) came walking out and glared at us. The man at the front desk was not friendly or welcoming. Overall it had a very bad vibe. It's the kind of place you stay in when you're running from the cops. I hope someone can turn this place around because the downtown area seems sort of cute.
