Part of me is actually relieved that the craft brewing scene wasn't as hot 15 years ago when I was in town finishing up my clinical rotations, would have been far too many distractions from my goal. This place, in particular, is just blocks down the hill from where I lived, would have been quite dangerous. On a quick weekend trip, the first time I have been back in 11 years, I knew I had to check out at least a few of these new breweries. Whistle Punk was great from the industrial atmosphere of the space to the great beers they are making. Particularly loved an IPA they made with some super hard to get hops, Motueka and Loral, was a really citrus forward brew with great notes of mandarin orange and lots of hop flavor without being too bitter, their ESB also really stood out for me. read more

Update: After a message from the owner, he let me know they are looking at expanding the brewery to allow more seating as well as pairing up with a new restaurant coming in next door for food option!! So look forward to that in the near future! Fun Fact: I've seen the owner each time I've been here which really shows how much he cares about the beers he makes, the establishment, and his patrons! He brews in CDA, Idaho but his brewery is downtown Spokane. So if you're looking to see the layout of the brew equipment, you won't find that. I've been here twice now and I love the atmosphere and vibes from the place, staff, and patrons alike! Not to mention their beer is really good! My personal new favorite is the Gosa! It's a sour beer that is very flavorful of blueberries! Simply delicious. I'm craving it hard today and wish I had taken some home with me! My friends and I enjoyed a nice Friday night here - me with my Gosa, two friends with the Pineapple Smoothie IPA, and another with the Stout! Each of us loved or beers. Fragrant, smooth (or hoppy depending which one we're talkin'), and do flavorful. The descriptions they provide on their menu are really true to the brew - so you will not be disappointed there! If you are looking for some grub as well as beer, they don't serve any food but have a bar Chex mix available, complementary. However, enjoy your beers and pop over next door to Guilded Unicorn for some DELICIOUS food. Happy hour at Guilded isn't too far off of Whistle Punks closing... so check it out. Great beer and selection...as someone who does not care for IPA's and Sour's it is nice to see a place that actually has a variety. Each time we go we find friendly service who help you find something you'll enjoy. Cool space, but can be hard to find as it is down an ally. Expect to park on the street and walk in. But if you find trouble finding parking it will end there as you will not find trouble finding a beer you'll enjoy! read more

Spokane has several breweries to choose from, and I have been exploring them all.. what I've found is this place has the best choice in IPA. It's a cool setting with great service. I would highly recommend. Only caveat is that it can be hard to find, being it's in an alley way... but I think that makes it cooler! Love this place read more

This quaint little brewery opened about three weeks ago. Other than their tasty beer selection it's still in a growing phase. Without asking I would not have known Whistle punk was a logging term. I recommend to the father and son owners they create a logging atmosphere to match the name. I realize it's new but the decor needs to match the theme. Although there is no food in house, steps away is a BBQ take out you can bring in. I did not try this BBQ place but it seems very convenient to soak up the alcoholic beverages you will enjoy. I am looking forward to coming back when Whistle punk has matured. Maybe they will install a logger whistle. read more

We're from Los Angeles and we heard good things about the WA beer scene. All start with the Pros... beer was really good and fresh. Lots of options for everyone. Owner's "wife" was really nice. Cons... I don't want to pull out "the card" but seemed like the owner preferred one group of customers over another. We were sitting at the bar unattended for about 5 mins, while the owner was talking to customers. A young guy walked straight up to the bar and was served. Then the owner went back to his conversation. We only got severed one he noticed we were grabbing our things to leave. Because of that... I would not go back. read more

This had some of the best beer I've tried and they only opened recently, within the past year I believe. Great saisons, their IPA's are on point. Matt, the owner and head brewer, is one of the nicest guys and very accommodating owner. Their German style brews are unique, though the tap list as a whole is catered to include familiar notes of the Pacific NW & West Coast. My brother and I had the pleasure of being served by the brewer, so we got some great insight into their process and planning. As for the beer, the espresso milk stout is a revelation, and I fancy myself a lover of stouts and porters, so that's saying a lot. This is another excellent brewery located in Spokane! This was my first time visiting Whistle Punk Brewing and I was pleased with their beer options as well as the service. The bartender was very friendly and made us feel welcome. I highly recommend the Simcoe IPA. I also enjoyed Citizen Grain and the Espresso Milk Stout. This place was terrific. The guy behind the bar, who served us our beers, was the brewer or owner or both. We had a couple of brews and they were clean and flavorful. The atmosphere was exactly what I wanted- rough hewn timbers of epic proportions, raw rock and old brick walls. The crowd was thin, but it was early on a Friday evening and, frankly, it was really nice to only share the space with 10 other people. I also liked that the entrance was on the alley, not the street. This place has character, good beer, and accommodating staff. I highly recommend it. In addition, the guy pouring our beer knew about other breweries- even a couple in Montana, and had nice things to say about the brews. He especially complimented a newish brewery in Montana called Imagine Nation Brewing. I hope Whistle Punk does well- they deserve it! Good beer; good people. read more
