Stretching along Shoal Creek, the park offers a mix of shaded walking and biking trails, open lawns, and beautifully restored natural areas. It is hard to believe when you are in the park that you are in the heart of central Austin. The park is especially family friendly, with a large playground, splash pad, treehouse style observation area, and plenty of seating. While we were at the park a school was hosting a picnic for its students. The northern portion of the park is even more quiet and scenic, with winding trails, limestone bluffs, and creek views. It's a great area for dog walks, leisurely strolls, picnics, workouts, or just relaxing under the trees. The park is well maintained and welcoming to all ages. This park is very special.

The stream nearby adds a peaceful touch, and the overall design of the park feels really intentional and creative. Kids will go crazy for the massive playground and all the interactive installations. There are also food vendors including ice cream, so you can easily spend a whole afternoon here. One of the most well-done parks I've been to. Highly recommend.

That being said, Ramsey is a five minute drive for us so the convenience is great. Parking is on the street and while I've always been able to find a spot, during peak play times you might have to circle the block and perfect your parallel parking skills. One of the main reasons I knocked a star off is the bathroom situation. Points for having bathrooms, but we only use them in emergencies. They're about as clean as you'd expect a park bathroom to be but they could absolutely use a little bit of updating. There is no soap available. I almost think I'm expecting too much but I've been to many playgrounds in major cities that were clean and had all the items you need for hygiene. (No changing tables here.) The playground is nice, it is separated in to two parts where one side seems a little more suited for older kids and the other side has some things toddlers can climb and play on. Lot of space for imaginative play with the boulders and "cave" they can get into. There is also a basketball court, tennis court, and a medium sized field to run around in. Decent amount of picnic tables here and benches.

A fence or wall would have been nice, atleast by the playground area to limit the # of exit points. Lastly, it can be a little dirtier compared to some of the other parks I have been to in the area. We'll be visiting again, why you might ask? *Amenities- SHADED (by trees) PLAYGROUND, duh; the swimming pool(s) - 1ft pool separated from the larger pool with lifeguards on duty; basketball courts - not overtaken 24/7, you can actually shoot around; tennis courts--what's a park without them; and a huge field for running around free or tossing around a football with the nuggets. *Events- upcoming Movies in the Park and a pool party, major win! Shipe is a neighborhood, family-friendly park with a playground, a pool, and two small tennis courts. I believe it also has a basketball court. The park has no trails and measures about one square block, but serves a purpose for young families, dog walkers and amateur tennis fans. There is rarely an hour of the day when I drive down 45th to find the tennis courts empty, and the night lights help keep the space popular with UT undergrads and grad students with writer's block. The playground is busy on the weekends and in the afternoons, with a smattering of strollers and dogs wandering about. If you live in the area, it's a nice place to spend a few minutes. If you don't, there would really be no reason to make the effort. Shipe is suffice.

A trail appears to loop around the perimeter of the park. The park itself is quite flat, in comparison to the park across Airport Blvd on the Mueller side (which has slow rolling hills). I did not spot any bathrooms. Parking appears to be ample enough, though I ended up running over through Mueller on foot. Several vehicles were parallel parked on the road running through the park, but none appeared to be parked at the tennis court parking lot.

It's a nice pool and the chemicals usually keep the pool in balance but some times in can be rather harsh. It's a great place to take my nieces and nephews when they visit. They have so much fun. The park has tennis courts and it's easy to play in and generally people are respectful of time. That pickleball thing is fun to watch and it's nice that they can have two games play on one tennis court. I have a terrible time with dogs off leash. I get that people love their pets but it's just not safe. The law is the law and it protects people from accidents. I've had two experiences where someone's dog has come running towards me off leash! I have no idea what that dog is going to do and hearing, "He's a good dog, he won't bite"! MEANS NOTHING TO ME. Anyway. It happened again this morning. I'll start carrying a walking stick.

But the place STAYS filthy, and cannot be healthy. I talked to four people, including the supervisor, Marco Olivares, about the situation week before last, and nothing has changed. Mr. Olivares seemed to get an attitude with me when I said it had been filthy for a long time. He's like " is this your first time here?" I said no, that's how I know that it's been this way a long time, (just adding another layer of dirt each week). Mr Olivares told me they would take a look and "if" anything needed to be done it would be done. Two weeks later, there is still mold growing up the walls of the showers and the floors are so dirty, when they get wet you're walking through muddy footprints
