The first courts we found in Austin :) They have a small pro shop that offers services such as racket stringing. There are eight lighted tennis courts available for reservation, as well as a wall. They also have clinics, lessons, a ball machine, and match play with on-site pros! Booked a first lesson with Nick this Sunday; we'll see how it goes. ^___^ read more

Caswell is awesome, I have only been visiting for a couple of months now but have had a great experience every time. 5 stars goes to the ease of being able to book online, the availability of the ball machine and courts, and the service of the staff working the desk. I haven't done classes here yet, but I will likely be joining a class in the future. read more

I would like to give 2 stars due to: 1.) the guy who answers the phone. He obviously hates taking reservations through the phone and 2.) the woman who runs the register (older lady, don't know her name), She is very unfriendly and acts like she is serving a sentence by working there. The people at Pharr are far nicer and make me feel more comfortable. As for the facility itself - there is so much loud traffic that I can barely hear my opponent calling out the score. Tennis courts. Well-maintained, I think they have @ 12 courts, but could be wrong. 3 bucks a person to play, and not worth it if the (*%@#$^()%^(@)#%^ (*^%(*)^()*%^)*($%^ guy is working there with the black Lacoste hat, talking on the phone and being rude to the customers. Great location, and clean courts, AND they provide water. But with asshole dude working here, it better be stellar. UPDATE 11/2007: Met some nice folks working there since this review...sort of. However, the Noon/Lunch workout is STELLAR...and, if you're getting back into fitness...hard as f--k. Mike Clark runs the workout cordially and efficiently, and while we do a lot of hitting, emphasis is not as much on instruction but on cardio, and trying to place shots while the body's under stress. Best part? ONLY 8 BUCKS...best deal in town for an hour workout, and the tennis part makes it fun. (and while still out of shape, barely bearable.) A FIND. read more

This place sure has gotten spiffy lately! While the clientele still can't seem to read the part about "THIS GATE IS ONLY FOR COURTS 1 AND 2", the overall facilities are in much better shape as of late. Bathrooms have been fixed up, there are some paddings on the concrete walls for when you (or the balls) run into them, there's a new TV on the wall and new merchandise in the shop. Also there seem to be a lot more clinics and pros who are teaching here - I uploaded a picture for the brochure. AND! I don't know if they got more phone lines or maybe it's just too hot for everyone to play now, but I haven't had 10+minute holds for reservations any more! read more

I have to agree with the other participant of the class at CaswellTC, coach Andy does behave inappropriately around women. Should not be allowed, very disturbing, hard to play tennis this way. read more

Facilities are nice but wish they offered more drills/clinics for advanced players. I rarely can make the two times a week they do 4.5 drills, and stopped going to the Tuesday sessions due to a coach behaving inappropriately around women, leaving me with one day a week to make it. Like any lesson, the coach makes the drill, and Tom was a great coach for the Thursday session. If there were more times available for advanced players, I'd probably attend more. read more

I agree with Larry. The noon workout is a great bargain for what it is if you can get away from the lunch hour. The courts are well maintained and they do provide water/cups. There is a backboard available and they offer stringing service, racket demos and lessons of all kinds. At the moment the 'lobby' area is under renovation after someone smashed all of the glass windows in. read more

Good: - Best location to play because it's central, so easy to get to. - Great noon workout class with Mike Clarke that makes you want to pass out afterwards. Totally worth the money! - Restringing job on raqcuets is always done well. - Well lit courts for night play Bad: - Trying to book a court...You have to have your alarm set to book the court at exactly 8:44 and 30 secs if you want to not get a busy signal to book a prime time court. It is so frustrating if you dial a min too early or too late...(C'mon some of us are supposed to be working at that time!) - The guy on the phone who books the court at that time is so rude. He seems so angry at the world and makes you feel like an idiot for even calling. - Why can't they do an online booking system like ATC? - If you have a doubles match or novice players on the court next to you, (Courts 1-4) you will have balls going into your court every few minutes because there are no court dividers like ATC or SATC. Then again...I guess my balls roll over there just as much... read more

Josselin Ouanna of France beat Marat Safin on home soil in Paris in the biggest tournament in France, Roland Garros. He won in dramatic fashion as Safin hit a forehand wide on match point at 9-8 in the fifth set. This match helped show some of the reasons why tennis is such a great sport. Ouanna is a guy who at 23, pretty late in the pro game, is finally making a name for himself and is currently at his career high ranking of #134, while Safin is a former world #1, multiple slam winner, and current world #20. But, somehow, Ouanna managed to win the first two sets, lose the next two without much fight, but overcame that disappointment to win the most important match of his life. It was great watching that and just feeling all warm and fuzzy on the inside. At Caswell you can see, or take part, in matches just like that. Caswell is by far the best public tennis complex in Austin, hell Andy Roddick used to play here way back in the way. All eight courts are in tip top shape having been resurfaced a few years back, but the pro shop could use a little more variety in terms of racket companies they carry. The staff is really nice, and if you hit there a few times they'll generally know you by name and give you a bigger smile. Been playing here since my junior tournament days, and I don't foresee me stopping anytime soon. Maybe I'll make it to Roland Garros, but probably not. C'est la vie. read more

I do like this place for tennis. Good clean courts. Free ice and water to keep you hydrated. I recommend Andy for drills. He's a great coach with good energy and helpful tips. Especially for the lefties! Minus one star for the two times I've called and had a guy be rude to me. He always makes you feel dumb for calling and doesn't seem very patient or helpful. Needs to take a course on customer service. Disclaimer: I've never had anyone be rude to me in person. Affordable pricing and good central location. read more

Caswell is a pretty legit place. Good location. Small pro-shop. They rent racquets out for $4 for an hour I believe. Best thing to do, of course, is to hit with one racquet for 15 minutes, and switch it up. Also, if you end up buying a racquet from the place they take all the expenses of rental off your final price of the racquet. Courts are pretty nice, weirdly layed-out, however. Backboard is good as well as stadium seats for courts 1 and 2. Make sure to book EARLY for courts, and you can only book 2 days in advance I believe. read more

The Junior Tennis Director that parents have complained about in the reviews here also runs the adult clinics on Saturdays. I've tried the 9am class twice and won't be back. She's rude and mean-spirited, and is on her phone throughout the whole clinic. She even stopped play at one point so she could send a text about something "important." Sorry, at $20 for 1.5 hour clinic, my time and money is important too, and you're wasting it. read more

Great courts, centrally located, lots of parking, friendly staff.

I love Caswell Tennis Center for the location and the relaxed staff. There is a great roof top patio where I can watch my child play and they always have cold water and clean restrooms. It is unfortunate that a few miffed parents have to write slanderous jabs at the female juniors coach. Caswell does not have to be WAYA, an over-rated babysitting club where everyone gets fake praise and plastic trophies. We've stayed with Caswell for several years because my son really likes the junior coach and playing on the tennis wall. The juniors coach was a NCAA ranked champion, an international player who came to play for UT Austin from Serbia. Perhaps there was cultural misunderstanding with a handful of insecure, unsophisticated parents- but out of the hundreds of kids that pass through tennis lessons and camps, many have really enjoyed the juniors tennis coach and know that she has made our kids better players. The coaches there are funny, light-hearted and sometimes a little blunt, but its not personal. They are after all standing in the heat all day with your kids for very little money- they should have our appreciation and not what is akin to cyber-bullying. read more

I've played here for many years and while always happy with the great public access facilities, I recently had a need for new strings. For a 3.5 player not so attuned to the intricacies of the dozens of restringing options and brands, the Pro Shop, and Alex in particular, was super helpful. We had a solid chat about materials, tension, weight, effects, expectations, duration, and more. Highly recommend this team for your next re-string! read more

The courts are great, Coach Katie is a spunky and positive force for the youth program, and Coach Joe has been a wonderful instructor. I highly recommend this gem that is right in the middle of the city. read more

One of the best things about this place is the location. If you work in the down town area it is very convenient. The courts are nice and I have played many times here. The only complain I have is that I had a staff member was kind of rude one day. Other than that, it's a great place to play. read more

We had a terrible experience with the Junior Tennis Director. She is very critical and mean to the kids. I strongly advise you against sending a beginner child here because it is very discouraging for a child to hear "That was terrible!!" over and over again when they are trying to learn to play. It's sad because these courts are very near our house and my child now likes to play ( learned elsewhere) and we would absolutely send him back to Caswell if the current Junior Tennis Director were to leave. read more

Great courts, great location if you live central, but terrible ownership and service. If you want to sign up for their group classes, you cannot do so online, and I now understand why. Some of the pro's hand pick their classes, so EVEN if you show up at the office at the EXACT minute that the sign up for the next month starts, you may find...that the class is already filled up or nearly full. Did not happen once, twice, but regularly. My entire team has stopped playing there, as have most of my friends. read more

Caswell is an excellent tennis facility. The courts are clean and kept in good repair (nets, windscreens, etc). They always have ice and water available for the players. The locker rooms are consistently clean. Finally, the staff is courteous and well trained. Lee Sauls, the head pro, has been in the tennis business for over 30 years, and is doing an outstanding job managing this tennis center. Austin is fortunate to have such a first rate tennis center that is centrally located. I highly recommend Caswell for competitive or recreational play. Caswell Tennis Center is a great, centrally located set of 8 public tennis courts that is welcoming for all ages. There is now dedicated parking just for the tennis center which makes parking easy! The facility is well kept and has been spruced up (inside and out) under new leadership and there are clinics for different levels and strong coaches to take private lessons from. I'm a fan of all of Austin's Parks and Recreation Department's public tennis courts and appreciate the local investment, but Caswell is my favorite! Online court reservations make securing a court easy, but with increasing popularity, you have to be quick about getting your reservations in! read more

I have to say I am so impressed by the new junior tennis director at Caswell. He is so great with these kids and you can tell he really loves what he does. I had read some of the negative reviews about the old junior tennis director, however, have only praises for this new one! Looks like they've done a 180. This is the second camp of the summer we've completed and we have signed up for a third! This new junior tennis director (Joseph) and the other coach (Dillan) both greet my son by name each morning and will try to touch base with me afterwards to tell me something my son improved on or how the day went. My son is 7, a total beginner at tennis and very hesitant when it comes to sports. I admit I was a bit nervous for him at the start of camp bc there were some pretty good players too. No need to have been nervous because he's having a great time out there. He comes off the court red-cheeked with a huge smile. Love that! read more
