Tennis courts. Well-maintained, I think they have @ 12 courts, but could be wrong. 3 bucks a person to play, and not worth it if the (*%@#$^()%^(@)#%^ (*^%(*)^()*%^)*($%^ guy is working there with the black Lacoste hat, talking on the phone and being rude to the customers. Great location, and clean courts, AND they provide water. But with asshole dude working here, it better be stellar. UPDATE 11/2007: Met some nice folks working there since this review...sort of. However, the Noon/Lunch workout is STELLAR...and, if you're getting back into fitness...hard as f--k. Mike Clark runs the workout cordially and efficiently, and while we do a lot of hitting, emphasis is not as much on instruction but on cardio, and trying to place shots while the body's under stress. Best part? ONLY 8 BUCKS...best deal in town for an hour workout, and the tennis part makes it fun. (and while still out of shape, barely bearable.) A FIND.

The courts are great but the people who work there aren't always very helpful. Definitely a good public tennis court.

The store has a nice layout, and you can easily find what you're looking for. I met Leslie, who was super helpful and patient. She recommended I spend a few minutes walking around the fitting area to get a good feel of the boot to determine the best fit. I'm in between sizes depending on shoes, brand and design (6-6.5 US Women) and typically wear lightweight socks with all year-round boots. To my surprise the Blundstone Original Chelsea # 510 in size 3 (AU/UK) = 36 EU fit just right. I wore my new boots to Vancouver, and they were comfortable right out of the box, no need to break them in. I signed up for their membership and can't wait go to back to pick up a few more things--overall solid experience.

It's well-stocked, well-organized, and staffed by folks who clearly live and breathe the outdoor life. What makes it great: Excellent layout -- spacious, easy to navigate, and doesn't feel overcrowded, even when it's busy. Gear is thoughtfully displayed, and the store flows well from one department to the next. Helpful staff -- genuinely friendly and super knowledgeable. Whether you're getting fitted for boots, comparing bike racks, or just looking for the best water bottle, they take the time to walk you through your options without upselling. Well-stocked -- From high-end hiking gear to commuter-friendly bike accessories, it's got a little of everything. Great selection of clothing, trail snacks, and even travel gear if you're about to hit the airport. Bike shop in the back is a hidden gem. Solid service, quick turnaround, and honest recommendations. Bonus: Located in a convenient area with easy parking (which is a huge win downtown). Feels like a hub for the local outdoor community -- check the events board or just chat with someone about where to hike, paddle, or ride next. Bottom line: Whether you're prepping for a thru-hike, a weekend at Barton Creek, or just commuting across town, REI Austin is a reliable and inspiring place to stock up. Great gear, even better people.

Patrick, the manager, not only matched the price, but went out of his way to help me find the exact board I wanted in the color I was looking for. He was incredibly helpful, courteous, and genuinely went above and beyond to make sure I left with exactly what I wanted. Patrick wasn't the only one, either. Several employees helped me while I was there, and every single person was kind, knowledgeable, and willing to help. I was actually surprised to see that this location has some lower reviews because that has never been my experience. Every time I've shopped here, I've received great service. I'm not sure how old some of those reviews are, but my experience was excellent. I found exactly what I was looking for, got the price I was hoping for, and was treated with genuine care throughout the entire process. Huge thank you to Patrick and the rest of the team. This is exactly what great customer service should look like.

IME, it is best to get work done after the hunting rush. Wait times get worse the closer you get to fall. Apr through Jul is usually best. I had a pistol Cajunized in the busy season and it took a little over a month. I took one in during mid-Spring, dropped it off at 11, and had it done same day by 4:30. The DA/SA are so much lighter and crisper. I have Cajunized one myself, so I know what is involved. It is surprisingly hard to find gunsmiths with experience Cajunizing, or with CZs in general. I guess it makes sense, they are far less common than Glocks, M&Ps, etc. I have had smiths tell me they do not work on CZs, or they say "we can do that, we'll figure it out," which is not comforting. Each time I came in, the associate at the counter brought me to talk to a gunsmith. He knew the order the parts go back in, that some jobs like the mag release are easier when everything is already apart, and that you have to remove the front sight pin to replace the barrel bushing. The sear cage is a nightmare to get back together, so I'm happy to outsource it. It's clear they do a bunch of them here, so it takes less time than me installing it or a smith doing it for the first time.
