What a gem, smack dab in the middle of Newark Delaware. I've been a semi frequent visitor to the area since 2017 when my folks relocated from NYC to here. Anyway, a head clearing hike / walk was necessary the other day and my sister recommended the park as a place that could accommodate that. I have to say, it's a great place. The park is fairy extensive and, you quickly get the feel that you are in a very rural area even though you are in a densely populated college town. It was a gorgeous morning Wednesday when I walked the Pomeroy trail which is about three and a half miles round trip from where I parked my car. There were a few runners out, along with some dog walkers and the occasional deer. Overall it was peaceful and quiet. If you happen to be in the area and need a respite, definitely check this place out! read more

Had lots of fun hiking at the state park this past weekend with a group of ~20 people. We started from the PA side of the park and went through several trails (see picture), mostly in the DE side - Charles Bailey, David English, Whitely Farms, Snow Goose, Nature Preserve back to the parking lot. The trails are clearly marked, muddy and somewhat slippery after the morning rain. I had a hard time to catch up with the group, as I concentrated on looking at the ground to avoid falling. There were some hilly roads on the David English and Whitely Farms trails, but afterwards, the roads became smoother. We passed by the Nature Center on the way back and the volunteer tour guide showed us one of his pets, a bubbly and friendly orange snake, very cool! We also passed by other people running, walking and hiking on the trails! There are many trail options and seems suitable for anyone who wants to do a short, medium or long hikes in a couple hours. read more

I could get lost here for days and be ok with it. We came with a group, which was perfect. It looks like many of the trails were great for walking, running, biking, your dogs and even horses. Great park. I know we probably didn't even see half. Had great trails for walking and mountain biking. We weren't bothered w any mosquitos! It has pretty steams and big rocks to climb out on. Its clean offers a map. The pay system is set up in each parking area. It was only 8 bucks for two of us. A lot of maintenance goes into the trails and keeping them passable. The ranger patrols each area so pay and if you don't I'm sure the ticket will cost you more in the long run. read more

I have been coming to this park for 10 + years. I first came here as a teen exploring the woods and as I have gotten older I have just come to appreciate the natural beauty that is this lush and diverse landscape. Fishing, hiking, and mountain biking are all options here and the trail is long enough for a healthy workout. I've seen many people fly fish here and I have had the opportunity to see and catch many fish myself. My family and I do enjoy coming here to relax by and in the creek, so come enjoy this amazing park. It's gorgeous in all seasons and makes for a great place to bring the family. They do stock trout during the fishing season so there usually is no issue finding a good spot to fish. read more

This is a great park for hiking, running and biking. All the trails are well maintained and marked so it is difficult to get lost. There are at least 4 large loops that are +/-3 miles each and it's easy to combine the loops if you want to do more. For biking parts of the trails are more rocky and hilly and it even has a good obstacle course in the northern end of the park to test your skills. It can get a little crowded on the weekends since it is one of the few good parks if you don't want to travel more so expect other people on the trails. Parking is $6 for out of state and $3 for in state vehicles for the whole day. Make sure to pay the amount because they do check and will fine you. read more

Really great mountain biking trails. Diverse, fun, lots of singletrack, ok parking, not too crowded. Mostly wooded, not a lot of field roads. $6 parking fee for out-of-towners is a bit steep, but it's worthwhile. read more

Went there today for the first time. There is a trail that starts in the park that takes you to an original Mason Dixon Line stone marker. An actual real marker. I'm sorry, but to my way of thinking, that is just way too cool. This place gets a 5. read more

I love going running/walking through the park. It is absolutely beautiful and there isn't much/any traffic, so you don't have to worry about cars when you're exercising. Since I mainly stick to the foot paths, I don't really know what else is in the park. There is a river that you can fish in (i think), but mainly it's just nice to enjoy the surrounding nature in the park. read more

This park is gorgeous, with a wide variety of hiking trails. There are interesting historical things to learn while hiking- a Mason-Dixon Line marker, the marker where the state line goes from being straight across east west to being rounded, and places where the state line was in dispute in the early days of the US. It is neat to learn these facts when i am out for a hike. Hiking along the creek or resting by the pond can feel so peaceful. There is a playground, a picnic area, a fitness course, and a nature center. Some of the trails are good for cycling. One time, I came back from a hike and realized that I had a flat tire. One of the park rangers changed my tire for me. When I offered to pay him, he declined, saying "just keep supporting Delaware state parks." Another time, my daughter skinned her knee when falling from her bike. The employees of the nature center used their first aid kit to get her cleaned up. Now this is what I call customer service. read more
