While the idea of lunch in Lower Town Harper's Ferry sounds wonderful, there are the issues in parking, walking hills, and long lines of tourists to contend with. We decided to have a solid lunch at White Horse Tavern then afterwards get on with our tourism. The restaurant opens at noon, has a fairly varied menu, has attentive young waitstaff and offers ample parking. (Note it is located in the Clarion Hotel a short drive from the NHP parking.) The ambiance is dark and tavern-like but once you are fueled up you will be outdoors in Harper's Ferry for the rest of the day. Most importantly, the food was solid. The lettuce of the Southwest chicken salad was extremely fresh. The classic hamburger and the turkey sandwich on pretzel roll were large and filling. If I could give this place a 0 I would. Went there tonight for dinner with friends for my wife's birthday. Let's say what could go wrong, it went very wrong! Our waitress was horrible. Took part of the tables order and never came back for the rest. She disappeared and we had to call over other staff to handle the problems. First off many items on the menu they did not have such as French onion soup. Mind you they only gave two soups to begin with. My wife and our friend ordered loaded baked potato but we only received one of them until we asked for the manager. The manager saud the kitchen was backed up because they had a party of 20 who ordered different items on the menu. Isn't that a possibility if you let them orderI from the menu? I did not get the chipotle aioli with my fried green tomato blt and had to wait till we got another wait staff to get it. Service was horrible. The food subpar. The whole experience was hideous. As a chef of 45 years I had to wonder why a party of 20 people would throw the service off in the restaurant??? Made no sense at all. The place also needs some upgrades like tables that don't tilt and backs of seats that don't move. Just was not very clean or well maintained. My silverware looked as though it was already used. We were staying at the KOA close to the White Horse Tavern and fortunately they had a lighted path through the woods to walk/or drive a golf cart between the two places. We decided to go one evening for an early dinner. The restaurant is attached to a hotel and was clean and service friendly. It is not a large place, but has a nice bar and an outdoor deck seating area. On this night there was live music in the dining room. We are fans of live music and the band sounded good, but the volume of the speakers was way too loud for such a small space. Multiple diners commented on how loud it was. The volume was more appropriate for a large ballroom or outside venue. Even though there was plenty of seating inside, we waited until a space opened up on the deck (as did others) otherwise we would have been unable to hold a conversation. The menu has a nice variety. We sampled the wings and the burgers, which were ok. Nothing special but tasty. A decent local beer selection. One person in our group ordered the Cobb salad, but the waitress informed us they were out of hardboiled eggs??? Overall a decent place if you don't feel like cooking. read more

My wife and I decided to try this restaurant. I got the Cajun salmon and she got the fish and chips. We also got French onion soup, fried pickles, and a glass of Traveler whisky on the rocks. We were very pleased with all our food. I also had cole slaw and mashed potatoes with my meal, and they were excellent too. My pour of Traveler was very generous, and it came to the table quickly. Our server was Bristol. She was very sweet and does a great job. It looks like they have been renovating the restaurant area, and it looks very nice. We will be coming back again! read more

We stopped by there due to location and convenience. seated quickly . ordered the shrimp appetizer. it was so over cooked we asked the waitress to try it and she agreed. ordered the fish and chips and it was inedible. Mushy, tasteless and undercooked - again asked the waitress to sample it and she agreed as did another server. my meal that I could eat was french fries for $60. never once did our complaints get recognized or a reduction in cost or at least offer to remake the food. Cute little tavern attached to the hotel I'm staying at. Ordered a Harper's Ferry Sunrise (just ok), but the food was delicious. Got the lump crab steak in a cream sauce with a baked potato and garlic mushrooms. The star of the show was the garlic mushrooms and the lump crab cream sauce. Both were amazing! Don't waste your time. We live local and had heard that the food here was good. I'd read some of the mixed reviews and had some reservations, but figured we would try it anyway. Took my wife on Valentine's Day and planned to just get some steaks and maybe an appetizer. When we walked in stunk of stale cigarette smoke. So that was the first strike bc I'm. It a smoker. Next when greeted by the hosted who was very polite, she informed us of their "special for Valentine's Day" for $130 and showed us a limited menu that she tried to pitch to us being a "4 course meal". I'd already looked at their menu online ahead of time and knew what I wanted to order. So I declined and asked to have their regular menu. She told us again politely that they were only doing the Valentines Day specials. I get the idea of a special. Good effort, but I wasn't looking for a "4 course meal" especially limited options for $130. I want to be able to choose exactly what I spend my money on and what I eat. So I went somewhere else. Visited White Horse Tavern recently. We called ahead and requested seating for eight. They agreed to accommodate us. When we arrived, we waited for about 20 minutes. Then they put us in our own room away from the loud live music, which was nice. Our extremely friendly waitress gave us menus and took our drink requests. I requested a milk shake with Bailey's Irish cream. My wife requested sangria, but she didn't like it so I ended up drinking it and requesting another one. We put in our dinner requests and waited a long time for food to arrive. I requested trout with mashed potatoes and green beans. When the food arrived, my wife's french fries were cold, but were tasty. My trout was pretty good as were my mashed potatoes and green beans. Overall, it was a pretty good meal. The service was slow, but friendly and the food was okay. The hamburgers were excellent. I'm glad we tried it, but we probably won't be back. read more

Don't let the location fool you because while this is connected to the Clarion Hotel it is a very solid restaurant serving up some delicious food, great drinks (full bar) & amazing staff. Wings, burgers, crab dip, even the steaks are very good. We've tried the crab soup which is delicious and the crab cakes are solid. Nice outdoor patio area as well. My husband and I stopped in for lunch today. We were greeted and seated right away. The fried pickles served with a jalapeño ranch dip were delicious, and had just the right amount of crunch. The fish and chips with seasoned fries was also a good choice. Crispy beer batter on the outside with a good portion of cod inside. Went in after hiking around Harper's Ferry. The entrance, at least as far as we could tell, was through the hotel entrance. This may be different during later hours. Had a few drinks and the bacon cheese fries which were in competition for the best I've had. Lots of real cheddar and real bacon pieces. Happy hour is OK if you like macro layers, Rail drink was good. Would recommend. The adjacent hotel would be very convenient if you're visiting since most other bars around Harper's Ferry close quite early. read more

Being only a few miles away we come up here when we want a good ole burger and fries. The staff is always friendly and feels like a family spot. Chicken wings are also on point so we haven't ventured too far off these choices. Actually had the club sammich once and it was stacked. I came to this restaurant after enjoying my swim at the pool, to join Hubby and his friend for lunch. It's a big place with a high ceiling and a giant TV, mainly for sport lovers. I didn't have a lot of choices about what to order but ended up with a good set. Hubby ordered some chicken wings for us to share. The wing sauce was very good. It's like Thai Chili sauce but the taste was above average. I ordered grilled chicken sandwich from lunch special that's served with a creamy crab soup. The sandwich bread was stamped with the restaurant's name. Now that's a pretty good advertisement and promotion. Creamy crab soup was delicious! Something to brag about so I brag about it. The ambience was exactly what we were looking for. We were seated right away and even though they were quite busy (a Saturday day evening) we were served right away by a friendly waitress, Sophia. From the appetizer of fried green tomatoes to the burger I got, everything came out hot and delicious. My wife took the safe route of ordering a salad so she missed out, but, was very satisfied. If you want some beer and some high calorie food before you hit the Harper's Ferry hikes down the street, this is your place! Came here with a friend to eat after a long drive to visit Harper's Ferry. It is attached to a hotel so depending on when you come, it could be really busy or not so much. This entire area is sort of in the middle of wine country and no where so keep that in mind when you ask for certain things in the menu like steak, which they were out of. Anyways, I got a tall 22oz beer which was local and good. The cheeseburger was also tasty and a perfect pre-workout for the hike we had planned. I will say there is lots of TVs in the restaurant showing sports I didn't know existed like water polo on canoes and some variation of surfing I never saw before. Anyways, this is probably the closest restaurant to the entrance to Harper's Ferry National Park so can't really go wrong. read more

Visited here recently with some friends after our tubing trip and it only made sense! This restaurant is located less than half a mile away and actually has coupons they give to River Riders visitors. We got a few of the free drink coupons upon leaving River Riders, although our guide said we only need one per table (this was not the case). The overall vibe is cozy and I loved how they had videos on the TVs and projectors of tubing/rafting/kayaking. The service was quick and accessible. Our server was attentive and helpful. The food was amazing! I absolutely loved my pulled pork sandwich. The option to sub in fries/chips interchangeably is perfect (where else can you get this without paying a few extra dollars?!). We also had a seasonal raspberry milkshake and let me tell you, it was EXCELLENT. I'm glad that I decided to split it though, since the food was so filling. We came here after canoeing. It's a great place to stop after a day on the river. They have a lot of staff so our server was very attentive. Bonus, you can have your dog on the patio. Pretzels were delicious. The beer cheese was okay. My hamburger was HUGE and I ordered the small one. It was cooked exactly the way I ordered it. Side choice was fries or house-made kettle chips. I would have preferred something else as I don't care for either. But, for someone who doesn't like fries, I ate more than one. Hubs ordered the steak sandwich and said it had a really good flavor. He thought the fries were really good. I ordered the daily drink special. It was very good! Our pup was a fan of all the friendly people there. Great place for trivia, drinks, food and social gathering. First time visit with friends and we had a blast during trivia. Had the Grilled Chicken Bacon Cheddar sandwich with kettle chips and can say it was good. Definitely a must and a known hot spot for the locals. UPDATE: Karaoke nights on Thursday night equal unbelievable amount of fun!!! Gab our server was great and even jumped up on stage to joint the karaoke when we asked him to do so.
