We chose Alstadt's for dinner because we saw it had good reviews and outdoor seating. We weren't disappointed with the amount of seating out on the deck that was beautifully strung with warm lights. There were several other parties having a late dinner at the same time, but it didn't feel crowded. We ordered a burger, boneless wings, and a cheesesteak. The food came out within 10-15 minutes and was very hot and fresh. The cheesesteak didn't taste like I was in Philly (it had lettuce and tomato on it), but it was still cheesy and filling. The fries were delicious. My bf enjoyed his burger with a side of coleslaw. I thought the prices were extremely fair for the volume and quality of the food. The inside of the restaurant was bright, clean, and extremely welcoming with warm tones and nice decor around the bar. It would be a great option if outdoor seating wasn't available or if the weather wasn't great. The women's bathroom was clean and I enjoyed the hand washing sign to John Denver's Country Roads.

Pulled pork sandwich with a side tomato basil soup - lots of pork! But really good and smoky flavor then this soup was decent and seems fresh compared to any other tomato soup. Build your burger: buns, medium rare burger, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and a side of old bay fries - delicious and juicy!! Perfect combo with old bay fries. The fries weren't too salty but you can always add some salt to it. Great burger actually and I'm impressed. It's transparent and easy when you show up at this place... basically seat yourself and scan the QR code available at the table. We were seated by outdoor patio as the breeze is around with some overcast weather which is the perfect timing to sit. Very chill here as it's right there by the River Riders. Giving it a 4 star as it was a bit of wait (like 20-25 min) since ordering online. It seems busy here though.

Like an hour (ish) drive. So what's happening in HP? The Barn out Washington St. had a MemorialDay weekend all-day mostly-country music event 2pm to 10:30pm! Very nice. They have a great little bar inside, and sometimes have food from one of the restaurants across the parking lot, or just walk over for takeout, or i think i read that they deliver here. By the way, parking can get a little tight for a bigger event like this one, but we were early enough, maybe 1pm, and we scored a space when someone left. I might as well add that there's several clean restrooms sort of across from the bar. We settled into a huge comfy couch near the back of the hall, behind the seating for roughly 30 at tables and picnic tables. There was also seating for roughly 20 at tables out on a deck. The first solo singer-guitarist, D.C.'s Kate Smiles, had a lovely voice and sweetly original interpretations of rock and pop and country songs that i knew, and a presence that made me say, Hey, Wow, I can relax in this mellow mood with a really nice whiskey from a list that my local bar would envy. By the way, they were out of the local whiskey, Devil's Due, so i had a warming fiery oaky slightly-sweet Elijah Craig bourbon, neat, with a water back. Mmmmm. The second musician, W.V.'s Andrew Copenhaver, moved among soulful blues and country, some classics, some modern. He could put an edge on his voice, and he could hit some deep bass notes, so it was a real pleasure when he gave us Folsom Prison Blues. When you can hit that low note, you have a right to do some Johnny Cash. By now i was into some crisp local beers. That little bar really has everything, including a versatile bartender who made every drink we knew, and we sampled his skills as the third musician, NoVA's Mark Cullinane, took the stage. He had a wide range of country songs, including a moving original that made us feel we were driving in our pickup behind his dad's. He had a great rich tone and great range. Like the second musician, he used some kind of looper to create full layers of harmony. What with all the beverages, we started to fade a little as the music moved into the set by NoVA's seriously-country Rowdy Ace Band around 8pm. They really lit up the hall and the patio and probably a good piece of nearby Harpers Ferry. We eventually moved on to our reservations for dinner across the parking lot at Snallygaster's restaurant. But that's another story. We had a terrific afternoon and evening. The Barn will definitely be one of our go-to spots in this town, and we'll be looking to hear these musicians again!

The table had an umbrella, so we were able to enjoy the outdoors without being in the sun. We ordered the Cobb Salad ($20) and Red Rice and Hemp Burger ($15) with a side salad instead of fries (additional $2 for the salad). The Cobb salad was very good. Large portion with big chunks of moist chicken. The salad was fresh and tasty. Italian dressing was good. The "Hemp" Burger was a new one on me, but essentially i understand it is a rice-based burger with Hemp seeds for protein. It comes in a large bun with caramelized onion and bbq sauce. I liked it. It has a mild flavor, the patty is pretty soft and the combination of flavors was very pleasant. The "side" salad was large and very fresh. I enjoyed the vinaigrette very much. Unfortunately, our server went AWOL after dropping off our food. We had a question and he wasn't around. My water glass was empty and no sight. My partner's water glass was empty for a while and - I kept looking around - but no sighting. I finally did something I hate to do, which is to call over another server, but we both were thirsty and needed something to drink. That server was very nice and promptly came over with a water pitcher for us. The bad service really wrecked what was otherwise a good meal in a nice atmosphere. So, here's the thing. I considered giving 3 stars for this review based on the service. (We actually thought the server had quit - it was ridiculous - the place wasn't crowded at all.). But, the other servers in the area were working really hard and one did come over quickly to help out, so I'm going to hope for the best. I do want to send a message in this review to the restaurant that this did leave a bad feeling. I doubt we'll be back. Too bad.

It has a laid-back feel and an open door. The restaurant has two floors with self-seating, and we chose a table on the lower level. It was cool inside, though the doors were open to the outside, which added to the casual atmosphere. There only seemed to be one waitress handling all the tables, and while she worked hard and did a great job, the service was understandably slow and the tables were not cleaned very quickly once people left. One thing that stood out to me was how pet-friendly the place is--there was even a dog at a table on the porch. The menu offers classic American fare, like sandwiches and burgers. I had a BLT with fries, and both were very good. They were fresh, well-made, and satisfying. The prices were reasonable with most entrees being between $14 and $20 and my BLT was $12 . We were simply hoping to discuss our experience, particularly the unusually long service. A manager's willingness to address guest concerns in person is the entire job, and her refusal to do so left us feeling dismissed. He told me Maryland specialized in Cabernet Franc and Viognier and I knew nothing about Big Cork prior to arrival, but dad it was named as a top 10 tasting room by USA Today. Bold claim, especially coming from California. It was an absolutely beautiful day to visit Big Cory on Sunday. U called to confirm I didn't need a reservation, was told I didn't. That was nice, so I continued my drive to the winery, following three other vehicles that turned into the winery grounds. Ample parking, stunning grounds and views of the surrounding area. A big white building with a surround patio greeted me as I walked in, taking in the ambiance of the place. It was busy with patrons sitting outside, standing at mo sitting at the bar. I was greeted by an English chap, names Andy who said he works be right with me. Gave me a few minutes to look around and take in the experience. Andy greeted me and told me to grab any seat. Told him o was new to Maryland wine, as it was my first time at any winery outside of Paso Robles. I guts my expectations were high but I dialed them back as I ordered my tasting flight. Not a big white fan, I was impressed I'm with their Chardonnay, not buttery like the California. It was light, crisp and fruity. A very well done white. In fact I enjoyed it more than the Sauvignon Blanc, which if drinking a white I usually lean towards. Found this a bit too sweet. On to the reds, which is what I was reliably looking forward to. Andy took time to explain each wine, some characteristics and processes behind each glass. Their Meritage, a red blend was okay but was missing something for my liking. I did however enjoy the Cab Franc as single varietal. Never got to the Siberian Ice but was treated to the Syrah, Nebbiolo and Black Label Malbec. Those last two tasting were wonderful. My tastings done, I ordered a glass of the Rose Brut as I took care of Andy and my bill. I did walk out with a bottle of Chardonnay and Cab Franc. Overall a wonderful tasting with some good wines. Worth checking out but being from Paso I'm not going out of my way to find East Coast wines. I know what my palate enjoys but a little change now and then can be a good thing.
