What great hidden gem in AL. There is a cool presidential theme to the place. I had the Bush Burger Platter. Very good. The steam table only had fried breast chicken and no dark meat except for Sunday. Besides that the pecan pie and peach cobbler are out of this world. Go with their sweet tea and chicken tenders. I'm not a big fan of the fried chicken, but the vegetables are usually great. You can tell the building is old, but they try their best to keep it nice. You can't beat the price though. I had wanted to try this place for a while and we finally did Monday, May 7. We arrived around 1:30 pm and surprised to see how dirty it was. The floors looked like they hadn't been cleaned since they opened that morning. I had fried chicken, macaroni n cheese, and purple hurl peas. The chicken was good but a little on the over done side. The macaroni and cheese really had no flavor. There wasn't many people when we arrived so it should have taken long for us to get our drink and silverware but it did. Once we finally got it we never saw our server again. I see it has a 4 star rating and I just don't see how it could. We will not be back again! read more

This place was great, we were traveling through and looking for lunch on a Sunday. This is the classic southern diner/buffet line. We all had the fried chicken and it was to die for. The sides were large and tasty. This is true southern cooking with lots of choices, but the buffet line is the best. Ordered a large Cheeseburger combo. Asked if it came with a large fry and was told yes. When the food came there were very little fries with the burger. When we talked to the hostess at the register, she seemed very unconcerned that we had a complaint about the amount of fries and when we asked had they cut back she said, "they probably did." We called back later to talk to the manager and she said that they were saving us money by streamlining the order. In order to get more fries we would have to order the fries separately. Why should we have to order the fries separately in order to get a large fry on a large combo? Doesn't make sense to me. And the price....we could have eaten a much better burger with more fries than we could eat at Five Guys for less money. We went in to get the Buffet To Go. They have take out boxes piled up above the dessert cooler at the beginning of the serving line. The lady (older with glasses) asked me if I had a takeout. I said "Yes Ma'am!" She took the box from me, ripped it in half threw it away and snidely commented "You got the wrong BOX!" Even though my wife got a different type of box she did the same to her. A different lady with dark hair was very nice about it to our friend that frequents there. Maybe they should put up a sign....We didn't cause a scene because we were with our friend.
