We spend a lot of time in the Mount Washington Valley, and have tried many of the restaurants. This is one of the best, and yet one of the least known. Being a few miles north of North Conway it is off the beaten track for many, but totally worth the drive. Three things stand out at WMCC: The service, the bar, and the cuisine. Staffing a restaurant in the valley can be a challenge, yet the waitstaff at the WMCC is consistent, knowledgable about the menu, helpful yet hip, fun. The food is excellent, eclectic, varied, nicely presented.The fresh potato chips are indeed outstanding as an appetizer, but beware and go light! The hanger steak is excelent. So are the salads. Jeff the bartender is a whole 'nuther entity. Good luck getting a seat at the small bar, but you can usually score the couches and wait. Jeff is an old-school mixologist, has resurrected some old classic cocktails and uses many other classic and novel ingredients as a launching point for his own flights of fancy. It's a whole experience, right down to the ice chipped off a massive block to the specific glasses for each specialty cocktail. I almost don't want to describe it, so you can be surprised. Go here, have a great meal. It's unpretentious and excellent, and a really good value for the dough. A valley gem. read more

This place is amazing!!!! Whenever we are in the area we stop here! The food is absolutely amazing!!! The drinks are delicious and the service is top notch!! Very pleasant staff. This place was the reason I signed for Yelp. We visited in December (make reservations) and had the best meal we've ever had in the white mountains. The homemade potato chips were ridiculously good as were the apple cider donuts topped with ice cream and caramel sauce. We asked for a cocktail recommendation and the bartender came to our table. If only we had gone here the first night we stayed at the Bartlett Inn, as Nick had suggested! My fiancee had the special, which was pork with apples, squash, gniocchi, and broccolini. He skipped the curry that was listed on the menu. Very, very, very good meal! I had the butternut squash ravioli, which was also very good! For dessert we had the cheesecake with ginger poached pears, and toffee sauce. Good, but not the best I've ever had, We also stopped by the following morning to get the fresh cider donuts, but we were severely disappointed. I don't recommend them. They're dry, and the don't come covered in cinnamon & sugar like others that I've had from the same area. Sarah was our server at dinner, and she was very sweet & helpful. Updated November 14, 2013 Previously, I had written a review for the restaurant which stands. This part of my review is for the Deli and Store. A couple of weekends ago, we made a trip to go to the store to grab some sandwiches, baked goods and some coffee. We'd been in the past and I will say, their donuts are delicious. As we were arriving, we noticed that a train had just pulled in. Apparently the store has hooked up a sweet deal (for them) to be a stop on the Conway Scenic Railroad, whereby hundreds of people get off the train and get to shop at their store. We made it inside before the train even disembarked and proceeded to try to order. We were met with unfriendly faces when asked, "Are you on the train." I responded, "No, we did not come from the train, do we need to be to order?" I was then told that I could order, but their policy is that they don't take sandwich orders from train riders and though I was not a train rider, that I would likely have to wait for two hundred people to be served in order to get a sandwich! I then asked, well can I just order the iced coffee and donuts? By then, people had started to stream in the door. I was told that I could only get the donuts (or other baked goods) and that I would have to wait to be served. Wait to be served? Why? I was the first in line, who exactly was I supposed to wait for, the other two hundred people to go before me??? Well, I never got my donuts, despite the fact that I was first in line before any of the train riders and despite the fact that I had grossly modified my order, based upon their policy. By then, there was a line out the door of about two hundred people, there was no way I was waiting in that line. I get the policy. They don't have time to make sandwiches for two hundred people, so they limit the orders to baked goods. That, I get and understand. What isn't cool, is that if you aren't part of the gaggle of tourists that streams through their doors, that you get second rate service. I was in line well before the others, yet they wouldn't even get me some donuts, even though they sell donuts to the train riders! They have a pretty good gig going on, so, apparently they don't need my business. That's exactly how I was treated. read more

We ate dinner here last weekend, it's right down the street from our condo, and we've never tried it before (although it was recommended). We ordered a nice bottle of wine, to be told they didn't have it. Selected another one, they also didn't have that. That was fine, they suggested a bottle that was great and we enjoyed it. (Might be time to update that wine list though! Our server mentioned that they were going through some changes with the wine). Our server was friendly, and knowledgeable and her service was fantastic. Our appetizers were also great. We started with the charcuterie and the pork belly. Both were fantastic! For our entrees, I ordered the gorgonzola and bacon crusted pork chop and my boyfriend ordered the duck. The duck is supposed to be cooked medium rare, but it was overcooked. The one constructive criticism I can give, is that the owner/chef came to the table and was slightly aggressive in explaining that the duck WAS in fact medium rare. (My boyfriend is also a chef at an upscale restaurant, but did not disclose this, and never does when we are out dining). He asked them to cook it rare, which they did, and her demeanor was pleasant again! All in all, it was a great experience! read more

This is one of those places that just gets it right...every time. First, it's a 2-in-1. They have a wonderful little café that they call, "The Market" AND an amazing restaurant across the small dirt parking lot. You can pop in the little café shop starting daily at 8AM to grab a delicious breakfast sandwich made fresh to order, an amazing muffin or scone, or just a cup of the best coffee I've ever had anywhere north of Laconia (I selected the dark roast). The Market also has Gourmet Foods, Sandwiches, Meals-To-Go, Cider, Cider Donuts, Specialty Foods, & Unique Gift Items, Cooking Classes, and much more. A great little shop. As far as the restaurant, I am kicking myself for waiting so long to try it. The reviews are spot on because the food is excellent. Nothing run of the mill here. All of the apps and entrées are literally amazing filled with flavors that dancing around your tongue with the skill of Gene Kelly. The love and creativity that goes into the food is center stage no matter what you order. The prices are very reasonable too. I ordered almost half the menu and my check was only $101. True, I didn't order any of the pricier entrées like Chicken or Steak but I did expect to pay more for this level of quality. I started with Truffled Parmesan French Fries, and the Bacon and Bleu Cheese stuffed dates. Both were so delicious that I could have eaten just those all night. Instead of moving right along to the entrées, I ordered my second course of Beets & Pickled Strawberries with Pine Nuts, Labneh (a cream cheese like treat made from yogurt), and Za'atar. I also had to try the Asparagus Goat Cheese Pie with Caramelized Onions and Aleppo Pepper. They were both a wonderful journey into the mind and palette of what is obviously a very well trained expert chef. I'm not a fan of beets, and this chef somehow removed the earthy beet flavor that I don't like from the beets and replaced it with a surprisingly wonderful smorgasbord of flavors. For the 3rd course, we then went for the Cider Mill Salad which was perfectly dressed (so rare) with Crispy Shallots, Green Apples, Pecans, and a freshly made Cider Vinaigrette. For the 4th course, we chose the Cider Mill Burger with Bacon, Portabella, Cabot Cheddar, Tomato Chutney, Greens, and French Fries on the side. We asked for it to be cut in half and it arrived in style, each half nesting in its own basket with its own handful of fries. The burger was perfectly cooked and delicious. Hands' down the best burger I've ever had in the White Mountain area. We finished with the Warm Cider Donuts & Ice Cream with Homemade Caramel Sauce. One bite and it was clear that it really was homemade caramel, not what most places use, that squeeze bottle of caramel flavored sugar. Think incredible apple crisp but instead of apples and crumb topping, it was cider donuts as the main event. Their cider donuts are great btw. No extra sugar so that the flavors are the star of the show, not the sugar. One big problem we had was that there is no kids menu, which is really lame. You can't add a kiddie pasta or mac and cheese to the menu? Seriously? Also the waitress never checked on us at all. She never asked how the food was or if we needed anything. The only time we saw her was when she delivered the food and the bill and even then she was half way gone each time while I was still talking as if she had something on the stove about to boil over. That was inexcusable. But that aside, I give the place a solid A for the food. It would be an A+ if they added a couple kids' menu items. Are they trying to discourage families with kids from coming? If so, that is a big mistake, especially 5 minutes from Storyland, IMHO. read more

I read that this place has cider donuts, and that was enough for me! We went for lunch, thinking that if we liked it we would return for dinner. We snacked on donuts until the sandwiches were ready, but they were not great. I was under the impression that they'd be made fresh to order, but that was not the case. They were not very sweet and did not taste strongly of apple cider. I hate to say it, but the "old fashioned" variety from Dunkin's taste much better. I had the loaded tuna sandwich, which tasted odd -- as if the tuna were made with lemon juice. It was OK, but I definitely would not order it again. My husband had the cobb salad wrap. Again, it tasted OK but was nothing special. NO BATHROOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After the disappointing cider donuts, we did not return for dinner. read more

I read the reviews and someone said it was not kid-friendly. Well, it is an adult restaurant and the quality would be lost on most kids, but I was pleasantly surprised. My 10 year old said the burger was "The best burger that he ever had." He does like adult-type food though and was fine with the spinach and large mushrooms on it. My 7 year-old, who is extremely food picky, said that the macaroni and cheese was the best that he ever had. My four year old daughter, also food picky, ate her grilled cheese (even though it was made with thick-cut fresh bread and non-Kraft cheese). My burger was outstanding, and among the best that I have ever had - as good as Ted's Montana grill. read more

The food at this restaurant is absolutely AMAZING! I've eaten at White MT Cider Co a few times now and because of their entrees' consistent deliciousness, I rate it as the best restaurant I've ever been to. All of the main dishes are scrumptious, no matter what you get. The menu changes seasonally and the chefs always come up with interesting and flavorful combinations. It seems like an art to them. Very high quality dishes. Prices for the entrees are in the 20s, but it is worth every penny. Reservations are highly recommended for dinner. DON'T MISS THIS, if you are in the area. I recommend the chicken dish! It always seems to be the most delicious meal on the menu. Food was great, but service was terrible. My wife and I went on a Saturday night and had a three course meal with drinks. The waiter did not know which items contained dairy and made little to no effort to find out. As we were finishing our coffee after paying the bill (just five minutes before), the manager came over to our table and abruptly stated "we need this table". She made no effort to apologize or explain. Instead, she offered we take our coffee to a couch near the fire (which she hadn't even looked at because there were already people sitting there). The service had been very slow all night, which was the main reason we were still there to begin with, so it was both incredibly rude and felt like she was blaming us for the slow service. It was an abrupt and unfortunate end to what had generally been a nice evening. Really unfortunate since we'd been there a few others times and had a great experiences, but I don't think we'll go back after this. read more

Our dinner here was a huge disappointment, mostly due to poor service. Our server, Christine, informed us that the "Casual Fare" menu (with the burger) was not available to us, even though I had called ahead to make sure that it was. She also had trouble getting the specials right, forgot to bring us any bread, and was not particularly friendly. We ended up ordering the potato chip sampler, which was enormous (not really appropriate for 2 people), the steak (incredibly salty and chewy), and the duck (submerged in a sweet and sour sauce). Partway through our meal, the server for a neighboring couple discovered that she had given them an old menu and returned with an updated one. It turned out that we had also received the old menu, which means that we ordered a strip steak with red wine sauce and got a hangar steak with a coffee rub instead and ordered duck with a pomegranate sauce and got duck with rhubarb compote. There were also a number of seasonal items on the correct menu that I definitely would have wanted to try if I had known they were available. This meal was a significant splurge for us and for a special occasion, but our experience was far below what we had hoped it would be based on the other excellent reviews here. read more

My girlfriend had come to Yelp looking for a good place for our anniversary dinner up in North Conway, NH. After reading the reviews for WMCC, we gave it a whirl. Everything about the meal was incredible. The chips appetizer was perfect, the pulled pork wrap had a delicious maple taste, the chocolate cake was delicious and the apple cider donuts are a must try! Our waiter was fantastic as well. Honestly, I was not blown away with this restaurant. The food was actually pretty mediocre. The menu looked really good and then once I got there I was totally underwhelmed. Our waiter was nice, but the manager was super defensive. I got the butternut squash ravioli. It was okay. Good, not great. The "roasted" beet and goat cheese salad was kind of a joke. Maybe I just went on a bad day, not sure, but probably won't be going out of my way to go back. read more

Just went for the third time last night, and the best I can muster is a 3 star review. Maybe I am spoiled by all of the wonderful places in Portsmouth, but White MountainCider fails to compete. Service was weak, strong or overbearing. The price point is pretty high for the quality and creativity of the dishes. On paper it sounds great, but I found it didn't follow through on the plate. Sometimes the chips were perfect, other times we had to send them back for being too cold. On one occasion the doughnuts were great, once, under cooked, and another time over cooked. Wanted to love this place because the vibe is definitely fun, but for that kind of money it's just not worth it. Also, and I have noticed this at other places too, why if you made a reservation three weeks in advance do you get the worst table in the dining room?!? read more

Outstanding! Great atmosphere! The food is incredible. We tried so many things on the advice of a local resident who made the recommendations. We knew it would be another year before we had the experience. We tried the homemade potato chips, seafood chowder, salad, veal special, roasted fish, and for dessert the homemade donuts. Yum! Yum and more Yum! Way too much food but every dish was great. Three days later and we are still taking about it. The service is fantastic. The staff was attentive, accommodating, kind. I'm not sure when this opened, but this was the first time that I've stopped in, and I was very glad that I did; I visit North Conway area once a year for a vacation and I'm always looking for country markets that have an interesting selection. White Mountain Cider Company was a fun place to browse. They had a great assortment of baked items, snack items (smoked trout is delicious) and country themed items. I ended up buying several things to take home as gifts for others, and I made sure to try the iced Mudslide coffee- wow, wow, and wow. I had to stop myself because I kept seeing more and more foods and other goodies that I wanted to purchase! This is definitely going to be a must stop for me every year now! read more

White Mountain Cider Co. Is a gem of a restaurant tucked up in the White Mountains. Service and food was fantastic. I had the duck cooked perfectly over mashed sweet potato and red cabbage, while my husband had the pork chops. Everything from their bread to their signature appetizer of house chips was delicious. I had an unusual appetizer of local grown mushroom over spinach, yummy! Even after eating the large dinner portion, we manage to squeeze in the apple cider donut with ice cream. This place made the drive up from Boston worth it. read more

I ate here back in December while I was on a ski trip. The food was wonderful and the atmosphere was great as well with a large fireplace next to the table where my girlfriend and I were sitting. I had the rabbit which was just delicious. The waiter was great as well, mixing up some unique drinks with cider. read more
