The person who states "This is most likely the best restaurant in the world" has to be beyond sheltered; It's not even the best restaurant in the _neighborhood_. The main thing you must understand: the food is "inspired" by Indian food, but it does _not_ taste like Indian food. I suspect its been intentionally watered down to be palatable to milquetoast palettes. We ordered three small plates and the butter chicken as the main. Chicken Tikka Taco. This was greasy to the touch, with chicken and cheese. The dominate flavor is the cheddar cheese. They were trying to be creative but the ultimate effect was similar to a frozen burrito with cheddar cheese and chile verde. If you eat this, close your eyes and imagine a microwaved, frozen burrito..you'll see what I mean. Tandoori Avocado. This features an avocado that's been warmed and covered in a chili sauce. There's a green hummus and a fried dosa crisp. While it sounds wild, once the flavors are mixed together on the plate...the overall effect is that of a green-goddess salad. It's not bad, but its not mind bending. Octopus Xec Xec. The octopous was was cooked nicely and there was a tomato based sauce. Unlike something you'd find in India, it is _not_ heavy on the spices, or tang, or nuttiness. It's just very _neutral_. Butter Chicken. This was the biggest disappointment. I've never had a butter chicken curry that tasted so close to tomato soup in my life. I've eaten tons of butter chicken in my life, hundreds of Indian restaurants. I cannot imagine this was not an intentional choice...It was extremely disappointing. Also, the choice to use chicken breast was poor. Inevitably you get overcooked, chewy chicken pieces. They must have chosen this because (like Disneyland) sometimes you water things down to make it more popular with less adventurous people. The customers next to us (not Indian) kept slathering it on their rice and saying "I can't believe I didn't use to like Indian food!" -- that told me all I needed to know. BTW the naan is insanely bad. They stretched it very thin and then crisped it to the point that it breaks like a cracker. In what world is naan not pillowy and soft? Personally, I was really disappointed with this experience -- the other reviews on yelp are absolute insanity IMO. I know there's a hype train right now -- but someday people will realize this place is not it.

The drinks are terrible and the staff is racist and homophobic. I was there with a group of girls and our other friend who is a gay male. He couldn't find us so he checked in the woman's bathroom where we were. The security guard flew at him and asked him to leave. He then called the bouncer outside and the "bar manager" (who was dressed in sweat clothes which I found odd and unprofessional) who proceeded to shove our group out of the bar with aggression and a bright light. I spoke with the "operator" and explained our friend never thought twice about walking into the bathroom because bathrooms in San Francisco are usually accommodating to all gender identities. He told me he was raised in San Francisco and he doesn't support "those politics" and we can go to the Castro. I also encouraged them to post a sign if this was their policy, so respectful patrons are not surprised when a security guard starts screaming in their face. He laughed. Ironically, it appears this establishment is owned by the Plumpjack group, whose founder is our Governor and champion of LGBT rights, Gavin Newsom. Based on the many reviews here of discrimination and homophobia, I hope management intervenes. read more

The owners have created an incredible atmosphere, and the bartenders are always on point--friendly, fast, and they make killer drinks. But the real standout here is the music. The DJs consistently bring the heat, mixing house, EDM, and hip-hop that keeps the energy going all night. Our first stop was the upstairs restroom by the stairs. The bar was busy, but the first floor wasn't overcrowded. To give some context, the restroom is located right next to the staircase. I was waiting in line, and my boyfriend's little sister was standing only a few feet away from me. The stairs were not blocked. A man suddenly walked up to her and immediately screamed in her face, "You need to move. You can't block the stairs." She stepped over. Instead of leaving it at that, he got even closer to her face and yelled, "YOU NEED TO MOVE UP OR DOWN." Like most people would, she defended herself after having a stranger scream inches from her face. She responded, "Okay then go. I'm not blocking you." He continued hovering over her, repeatedly shouting, "UP OR DOWN." She replied, "Stop telling me to move. You move!" That's when he yelled, "THIS IS MY PLACE. GTFO," grabbed her aggressively by the arm, and forcibly dragged her out. This all happened within about 10 minutes of us arriving. The man was wearing a fitted hat with a black tee. Had a tatted colored sleeve with some green. I'm not sure if he was the owner or the manager, but I've never seen someone with such a short temper treat a customer this way. If there had been a misunderstanding, all he had to do was calmly identify himself as staff and explain what he needed. Instead, he escalated the situation from the very beginning by screaming in her face and then physically removing her after she responded to being yelled at. No man should put his hands on a woman with that kind of force, especially when she was not being physically aggressive or threatening anyone. She never touched him. She only defended herself verbally after being screamed at. As a result, she was left with visible marks on her arm. This was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. No customer should be treated this way. We came to celebrate a birthday, and instead watched someone abuse their authority and turn a simple misunderstanding into a physical confrontation. I hope management takes this seriously because no one should have to worry about being manhandled over something that could have been resolved with a calm conversation.

My friend couldn't get in supposedly for having on sports attire -- meanwhile a woman next to the door had on yoga pants. The standard is a bit all over the place. My friend had a button up hoodie on so I asked could if he covered it could he come inside. I was referred by the door woman to speak to Lexi the manager about it. Lexi states that he can "try" to come in with it buttoned. I go back to the door woman -- she says he can't come in at all. I advised her of what the manager stated and then she proceeds to try to convince me that she manages the door now. They were definitely making it up as they went. So, I took my money and went elsewhere -- you don't have to lie just set clearer requirements and ensure that it is being applied fairly to everyone.

They also do have bottle service options. But on chiller nights you can find a spot at the bar. There's street parking surrounding but sometimes can be hard to find parking and might have to walk a bit.
