My son and myself drove there from Austintown. Walked in and seated ourselves. I was relieved to see that they weren't very busy. About 5 minutes later the waiter came out of the back room and went to the table of 4 next to us and told them they weren't taking no more tables. Then he came and told us the same thing. He said they had 30 people coming in in a little bit and couldn't wait on anybody else. And this was at 6pm. It appears that the restaurant has only one, stressed out male server that takes care of the whole restaurant. I guess I'll never know how good their food is. read more

Would not go back. My family has gone there for over 50 yrs. Last time, was the last time. Owner was belligerent. Service was ridiculously slow, People who ordered after us were done with their meals, and we still waited. Food was marginal, compared to the past. Owner should understand, he is not doing us a favor by serving, we did him a favor by patronizing. read more

Stopped by for dinner with my wife while out on an adventure trip through Western PA and Eastern Ohio. We saw good reviews on Yelp and decided to try them. We ordered pasta and meatballs. Yea, they have good spaghetti and our server was great, but the cook must be having a bad day cause we left after never being served. we were waited on and order, only to have three other tables come in after us order and receive the same food we ordered but never got. I remember eating at the White Rose Grill when I was a child. Back then whenever I went there I would get the homemade traditional lasagna. I just ate there this evening and I got there just about 8:15PM only to discover they were already sold out of lasagna. However Thursday evening is their ravioli night so I got that instead. The dish was good with a fully plate of ravioli and two medium sized meatballs but the italian bread served with the meal was two nice thick slices of very fresh bread served with several small plastic containers of real butter. Since I am usually disappointed in italian restaurants that do not have good break with the meal this impressed me. Another thing that impressed me was the quality of the silverware in the restaurant. I am never happy with a restaurant that has cheap crummy utensils. Not here. It was nice heavy quality stuff. Also the glass my ice tea came in was a real glass glass, not a cheap plastic thing. Another plus in my book. The menu is mostly traditional italian pastas, pizza, and meatball sandwiches but they also have real pies for desert as well as italian spumoni ice cream. There are also steaks listed on the menu but I have never ordered one or seen anyone eating one. I have never tried their pizza either. When I walked in there were two large groups and a few smaller two - three people family groups so it is very popular with the local crowd. There were also few people hanging out in the other side of the building where they have a full bar. The decor inside the restaurant has not changed at all since I was there when I was a kid. The large murals on the dining rooms walls are exactly the same. As others have stated the outside of the building does not look like much but the food and old time small family run atmosphere is why I will be back to see if I can catch them when the have lasagna. This was our "go to" place for our Italian food, especially when our large family was celebrating a special occasion. There were 16 of us, with a reservation. 2 hours before undercooked, unsalted, wrong orders touched the table. A meatball sandwich never even got served. The service was non existent. The cook made excuse after excuse after complaining that 5 if his staff had quit the day before. We had to clear our own table (see photo) in order to wat the birthday cake we had brought ( thankfully we had cake, otherwise we would have starved). To top of a completely disastrous evening, the checks were passed out: no details on any of them. Mine simply said CAV: $14.89. The bills were all incorrect but the best part was when we asked why the amounts were seemingly too high we were told they ADDED A 20% GRATUITY on after giving us the worst service we've ever witnessed. I pass through the area weekly on my way from Pittsburgh to Pymatuning, so I asked an awesome local friend for suggestions. She gave me a couple, but said the food at this place was "so good, it makes you wanna slap someone." She was soooo right! It was just me and Gram, though, so there was no slapping..... Service was mediocre, the dining room was bland and noisy, but Oh My God the FOOD. There is a reason they have been open since 1940. I'm not usually a fan of runny Italian sauce or "Sunday Gravy," as I prefer meaty, substantial pasta sauces, but this stuff was absurdly good. This is the best kept secret in Masury, OH. The place doesn't look like much from the outside - might be a corner bar... might be a restaurant... it's both! Once you're inside the decor isn't anything to write home about, but it is clean and comfy. Don't worry, once you taste their sauce, you'll forget all about the looks. The White Rose has some of the best traditional red sauce around. And that is saying something - in an area where at least half of the locals are second, third or fourth generation Italian immigrants, we know our red sauce around here. I've never tried any of their other dishes because their lasagna and their cavatelli are awesome! The lasagna is a beef lasagna covered in cheese and red sauce and I'm salivating just thinking about it. They also have a full bar to compliment the dinner entrees. This place would make a great place to meet up with friends - relax and chat over some great pasta - hang around after with a few drinks and catch up. Perfect. The place is relatively quiet, the bar is separate from the restaurant seating, but you can dine on either side. There's a TV in the bar area, but not in the dining area. The wait staff are attentive, pleasant and good at what they do. The cook is even better. :) Make the drive over to Masury and don't be put off by the look of the place. If you've never been there, try the lasagna or the cavatelli. You won't be disappointed. read more

Ok, my review might be biased (i'm related) but this place is fantastic. The same family has been cranking out the same homemade old school Italian food since 1940, and generations of folks come in regularly for thick red sauce, lasagna, different pasta's, pizza's, steaks - you get the deal. New things show up on the menu at different times of the year (wedding soup in the winter, homemade sausage at other times, rotating wine selections) but the staples are always there. Yes, it can be hectic and busy, and the old brick building seems mysterious from the outside...but that is part of the charm! It is the kind of place you appreciate more when you move away from the area. Great service and really simple menu and have mastered every item. Sauce is on the sweeter side and full of character. The beauty of the White Rose is in how little it has changed in three quarters of a century. That includes the atmosphere, the recipe, and the Italian hospitality. All of this does come at a cost. It is priced slightly higher than average Italian restaurants, but this particular reviewer feels that what is lost in extra cents is made up in a timeless, unique spaghetti sauce and old-world atmosphere. The main dining room features a wall painted to look like a long-lost Italian landscape. While this might seem trivial to the restaurant, the art itself looks as though it is from 'old-world' Italy. Wooden tables and booths in the dining room inexplicably recreate the atmosphere you'd expect in an Italian restaurant in the 1940s. Each table is adorned with a candle dripped down a Chianti bottle as a centerpiece, which really reflects both Italian culture and the depression-era Italian restaurant decor. The food is the best Italian in the area, and the secret is consistency over a long period of time. Try anything--there is not ONE item of the White Rose menu that you will be disappointed with. The White Rose also features a full bar, an impressive selection of alcohol including Italian wines. Hours of operation are a little bit tricky, and the family who owns the restaurant does take a week-long vacation in the summer. I was told this place was very good and the sauce was excellent. Couldn't have been further from the truth. The sauce is on par with chef boyardee, literally. Until The White Rose was sold a few months ago, it was a hidden gem. The Quartini family made you feel like family and the food was awesome. This visit certainly was not there best. I think servers were all new but were doing their best with very little training. The salad was actually warm along with the plate and wilted. When spaghetti arrived was just average at best and kitchen really needed to drain spags completely. The place was like walking into a cooler as everyone was freezing. Read all the reviews and thought wow can't wait to try this place, originally being from the Youngstown area and now living in Florida we come back a few times a year and love the Italian food here compared to Florida. It's ok and just that. Portions are small and meatballs are tiny, a bit pricey for what you get. Tried the wedding soup and thought it tasted like plain old chicken soup. Growing up with an Italian mother you get used to what they make, all Italian cooks are different so I won't say it's bad just not my taste. Had dinner with a friend. I had the house special angel hair with 2 meatballs and she had the cavatelli dinner. Even though the salad was just iceberg lettuce there were croutons, olives, and tomato and it was a decent size. They have a bar so you can get beer, wine or a mixed drink. The angel hair was cooked perfectly and their sauce is soooo good. It is a thinner sauce but it is very good. We got lots of fresh bread and butter. We both enjoyed our meals. Service was friendly. My husband and I have been eating at the Rose for years but after the new ownership we were not sure about trying it again. But the salad is bigger. Truly a piece of Youngstown for those who can't make the trip. Food is just as good as the Y's best in a pleasant secluded location. Unfortunately this small seclusion is also part of the problem. This is the BEST ITALIAN RESTAURANT in all of Trumbull, Mahoning, and Shenango Valley! A cash only buisness but the prices are very reasonable! My family has been coming here for years and I even like dining here alone because the atmosphere is so relaxing and the murals on the wall are beautiful. Portion sizes are so big you can usually take home leftovers (which still taste amazing heated up later) and the salad with the house Italian dressing is the best!
