Just a quick note to share my years of exceptional experience with Diane at White Sands Salon. She is a skilled stylist and an extraordinary colorist. I have referred many of my male and female friends to her, and without exception they have been thrilled with her skills and their results. She is amazing even for clients with very difficult hair problems. Her long time clients can attest to her exceptional skill. I did read a very questionable review of her work. I saw that this person left their previous salon for whom she reviewed highly. Why? I'm guessing the reviewer also had a problem there as well. I would absolutely question the veracity of the reviewer's perspective. read more

I talked to Diane after my review. Her final words before the end of the call was "I would have gave more consideration to a refund if you didn't post your review." So clearly she pays for her reviews. She had so many reasons and excuses to why things weren't done to my liking but honestly if she was so confused or didn't understand what needed to be done then she should have voiced it before and during the appointment. I went to get my hair fixed by someone else and she took a photo to prove besides the horrific bangs she chopped even the cut wasn't done right. read more

Beware of Dory! Dory did my daughter's hair . It was a disaster. I asked for red and she left it multi colors orange pink blonde rainbow of colors. She clearly does not know what she is doing. She told me she can do red color highlights no problem but after tryishe does not have the skill. I will never go back to her. read more

I wondered why 5 girls left the salon before me, as I started to work there I saw how Kathy doesn't care to make it better , only about money, 7 more left as I was working, nothing but drama owner that doesn't care or lies to your face . Unhealthy environment. Negative if you ask about the cockroaches on the coffee pot doesn't like you to say my rent goes to cleaning and it horrible, letting front desk open at 10-3 , place is dead . Not happy with this place. My fav hair stylist Lynn is no longer there and I have absolutely no reason to stay. Owner of the salon does not create a welcoming atmosphere. Okay, this review is long overdue. I called this place after reading their reviews on Yelp. They have the "blue or hard wax" and I naturally got the urge to check this place out. This place is clean and everyone's professional and polite. The esthetician does a great job and you're out of there in no time. The only down side is that they don't offer waxing services during Sundays and for people like me who works on the other side of the world likes to have options other than Saturdays. Wow. This was a really disappointing first experience, and there will not be a second. I have to learn to listen to my gut on these things. First, I called to make a first-time hair cut appointment. Well into business hours, I got an answering machine. If you don't always have someone to answer the phones, that's a bit of a red flag, but I thought, "things happen." I left a message. Two hours later, no return call. I called back and did get a human. I didn't bother to ask why they are so slow to return their messages. I was given a next-day appt. with Kathy. Upon arrival, the receptionist was a bit - snooty. Not outgoing and smiling as I normally find receptionists at salons and spas. She asked me to fill out a form which asked about hair care products I use, etc. My appointment was at 2:30. At 2:45, I was asked if I wanted something to drink while I waited. No explanation as to WHY I was waiting. I finally saw a stylist come up to the counter at 2:55, when I was about to walk out, with a gentleman she had just finished working on. Since it was my first visit, I had no idea who Kathy was. I watched her ask the receptionist to ring him out, then she went back to her station and started sweeping up hair and tidying up. I figured this must not be Kathy, so as I was about to get up and leave, she walks over and says, "okay, Rene', you're next." Not, "oh my gosh, I am so sorry you had to wait so long. My name is Kathy." She acted like I already knew her. So I said, "wow, I was just about to ask if I needed to reschedule." After she heard the tone of my voice, she finally said, "oh I'm sorry," but no explanation as to why I waited 25 min. On the White Sands web site, they state in their policies that to maintain a "relaxing and meditative atmosphere" that you should speak softly and turn off cell phones. I have never been in a louder salon in my life. It was like a coop of cackling chickens. In fact, during my hair cut, Kathy's husband came by twice to talk about tickets to the Angel's game and who got which ones, which was absolutely unprofessional and rude. Then another man came up at one point and wanted to talk about whether Kathy went to the horse races (Los Alamitos is right by the salon.) The place was as noisy as it gets, completely contrary to their "policies." I was seriously hoping for a relaxing shampoo, cut and blow dry, but Kathy was the master of 20 questions. I understand wanting to get to know someone, I guess, but my GOD, she wanted to know how many kids I had, what my husband did, what my business was, where I lived. I'm generally social, so I chatted along, but what I really wanted was to relax and get my hair cut - which she also cut shorter after I told her I didn't want any length off, but it looks all right, so I didn't say too much. To her credit, she did fix my bangs from the last stylist I had that basically massacred them. She also gave me a nice sample kit of hair products for free, but I will never go back, so if it was to try them out to sell them to be later, that isn't going to happen. Lesson learned. When I didn't get a call back after hours on their answering machine, I should have moved on to the next salon. I will be now. read more

I returned here for a massage and concluded I would never come back for the following reasons: 1. No reminder call about my massage 2. Told me to arrive 15 min early, but didn't put me in a room until my actual appt time 3. Massage was not 60 minutes, it was 54 minutes 4. I got the neck, shoulder, and back massage, but not enough time was spent concentrating on those sections 5. Not offered water after for all the toxins released 6. Front lady told me there was only $5 instead of $90 on my gift card. She said someone entered it in wrong...good thing the purchase was on file. Won't be returning ever again! read more

This review is for Lindsay who cut my hair. She is absolutely amazing. I bought a yelp deal here which is one of the reasons why I decided to give it a shot. I'm so glad I did. There was some miscommunication about the yelp deal though. Apparently it was for their spa section, but it didn't specify that anywhere. But thankfully they worked it out and it was resolved with nothing more than a hiccup. I came in desperately needing a new hairstyle and Lindsay was great. She listened to what I needed out of my hair and delivered. She didn't waste my time asking me about the products I use and blah blah blah. I don't really like to chit chat and I'm glad she didn't push the conversation. I'm so happy with my cut that... dare I say it... I think I've found my stylist! My sister liked my cut so much that she made an appointment for herself. As for the place: it's very clean and pretty nice. There's a relaxed feel here. It seems as though the stylists all know their clients. First impressions are lasting in this business but I'm very grateful that I had a good first experience there. My hair stylist recently started working at White Sands and of course I came with her cause we all know it's hard to find the right person to do your hair. White Sands is really nice. The theme of the salon is tropical beach and palm trees. They have a little fountain running and sometimes they offer you water while you wait. I won't tell you who my hair stylist is because I don't want it to be harder to get an appointment, but everyone there seems to be good. read more

This place is great! I went for a few years, moved away and tried a few new places...glad to say I moved back to the area and was able to go to White Sands again. The best experience I've had. I get regular full body waxing including brazillian, and not only was this place the cleanest and most professional, but the staff was friendly and didn't make me feel creepy because a guy walked in asking for a full body wax. lol Highly recommend Sarah L and also Robin B, they were incredibly awesome and because of the way they worked I will be back again for sure. Had a spa finder gift certificate. Went to spa finder site to find a spa near my house. White sands salon and day spa came up. Walked in, didn't need an appointment. Receptionist very friendly. Salon smells and looks clean. Music is a nice mix of relaxing chillness and nostalgia. Was offered a beverage while I waited. Megan my massage therapist came out introduced herself (firm handshake which is so promising for a good massage) Looking over their menu of services and looking around the salon, I'm intrigued to come back and try other services. Defiantly recommending this salon to friends. Massage was nap time worthy! Megan was amazing. Now I wished I would've shelled out extra money for a longer massage. Next time for sure! read more

Let me begin by saying that my stylist Laurie K. gets 5 STARS! She always does a great job, and I wouldn't go to any other stylist!!! That being said, It's the nonprofessional and rude attitude of the reception workers that prompted me to write this review. I have been coming in to white sands to see Laurie for the past 4 years, and though I have never been impressed with the front desk workers (very snooty and not friendly), this past visit, I was shocked at how unprofessional and rude this young lady was. I came in for a late appointment at 5, which I appreciate very much because I work late, and it was very accommodating for me. Laurie as always was great, but about 6:30ish, I started noticing that the girl who was at the front desk (and obviously there to close up), was slamming cabinets as she was doing her work. She turned off the air, she turned off the radio, and kept walking around to look at the station I was sitting at. By 7, she was rolling her eyes, and from 7:15 to 7:30 when I left, she was chatting with a man who came in, and would walk around, and loudly mutter "Oh my God, I am so hungry and I want to leave." Needless to say, this was very uncomfortable. I have been in customer service for the past 10 years, and have had my share of late nights, and I never take it out on the customer. I repeatedly apologized to my stylist because I just felt so bad that it was such an uncomfortable situation (and of course she apologized to me for how uncomfortable and awkward I felt). I will come back because of Laurie, but the sad part is that, whether you are a receptionist at the front desk, or a stylist, I would assume that the goal is to be friendly and give the customer a reason to come back and refer people. My amazing stylist Sedley used to work at complextions back when they were in Seal Beach, but now she works at White Sands Salon and Day Spa in Los Alamitos. Complextions WAS the best salon I had ever stepped foot in, but ever since they moved to Irvine EVERYTHING changed! They no longer have the amazing amenities that they had in Seal Beach and their service has gone DOWNHILL. When I found out that Sedley had come to White Sands I drove as fast as I could to her. She is an expert with color and haircuts. She listens to what you want and does everything she can to make her customers happy. I'm so happy I found White Sands because they are also a day spa like complextions except they have amazing service unlike complextions. Spur of the moment nail and hair appointment. No problem on getting on the same day. The nails I chose were silk and the technician did such a good job they lasted 3 weeks! Lots of compliments as they looked so natural. I then went to Kathy's station where she cut, colored & styled my hair. Kathy listens to what is being requested and does it with creativity and it looks really natural. (which is what I wanted). This is a very clean place and I generally go here for a manicure and pedicure, a facial, or a massage. Faith is great for facials and Diane is who I generally book the appointments for the my manicure and pedicure because she really is great. The reason why I give it a "4," is because twice the receptionists mishandled the scheduling of appointments for my friend and I, but I come back to this place because really Diane is the best. :) read more
