I have been wanting to try a head spa for the longest time after seeing so many dreamy reels on Instagram -- and today I finally did it! I had nothing on my agenda in West Garden Grove, saw a banner advertising $40 for 45 minutes, and thought... why not treat myself? Best. Decision. Ever. I walked in without an appointment and was warmly greeted by Tracy (easy to remember). I let her know I was a walk-in, and they graciously took me right in. She showed me to a changing room where I was given a basket for my belongings and a cozy robe to change into. Already feeling relaxed! Once I was settled on the spa bed, the pampering began. They wrapped my feet in warmers and placed a warm pad on my chest -- instant comfort. Holly started with a gentle cleanse of my face, neck, and chest while warm steam flowed over my skin. It felt amazing. Then came the head massage (the dreamy head scratch everyone talks about!) followed by more neck and shoulder massage with hot stones. At some point I definitely drifted off -- which tells you how relaxing it was -- but I remember cool stones placed on my face, more soothing massage, and the grand finale: my hair being washed and conditioned with the most refreshing scents. When the session ended, I sat up to cool, invigorating lotion on my back and shoulders before getting dressed. As if that wasn't enough, she led me downstairs and blow-dried my hair to finish everything off perfectly. Tracy explained that longer sessions include hand, arm, and foot massages... and now I'm already planning my next visit. This was the perfect introduction to head spas. I've seen Tilly Lee twice now and she has been very good. She is kind, patient, and makes sure you are happy with your haircut before you leave. She really takes her time to make sure she does not miss any detail. I've been to other stylists where they'll take their time and go above and beyond on the first visit, only to rush things through and not offer same level of care and service the second time around. My daughter and I tried to do a walk-in Friday afternoon, but unfortunately she didn't have availability for the rest of day. Tilly asked if we could come back the next morning and I told her I wasn't available until Sunday (they are closed Sundays), but she agreed to make arrangements for us to come back on Sunday.... woohoo! Tilly is really accommodating and friendly, which isn't very common for an asian owned salon..... She was very meticulous and spent about an hour on each of our hair. Tilly impressed me in two ways. 1. Her talent! She gave me a really nice hair cut and style. I showed her my inspiration picture. She listened to what I wanted and made suggestions to me when I wasn't sure about things. She gave me some really cute fringe bangs that could be styled easily, and when the bangs grow out, it can be swept to the left or right side. Even though I was the last appointment for the day, Tilly really took her time cutting my hair. I didn't feel like she rushed to get me out. I appreciated her patience and attentiveness. I had 4 inches taken off and she added beautiful layers to my hair. Tilly really did a fabulous job! 2. Her kindness! During the session, a gentleman came in selling cherries. Tilly was very friendly and polite to him. We both initially declined to buy the cherries. When the gentleman asked to used the restroom, she let him. While he was gone, she offered to buy the cherries with me because she wanted to show support to the gentleman. I went in half with her because I appreciated where her heart was coming from. Before leaving, Tilly offered the gentleman water, which I am sure he appreciated it very much during these hot sunny days. read more

And that is all I really ask for. I brought my kids in and she gives them candy... which makes them very happy... which makes me happy. This is my second time getting a men's haircut with Tillie Lee. She did an amazing job both times. It was $15, but I've had much worse "premium" haircuts for more than twice that much. I had intended to just come in for a touch up, but she went above and beyond. She blended the side into the top, did a fade on the back, blended the side into my facial hair, used the thinning scissors for shape, and spent a long time making sure the shape was right (going straight up the sides). She did all this without needing to be asked--I just told her the length I wanted on the top and sides and she gave me an amazing haircut and styled it nicely. Some places at this price will just do a quick buzz and scissor and get you out, but Tillie really took her time and made sure it was right. She's also friendly to talk to. I'm not a big talker when getting my haircut, but it's still a plus to have someone nice. She recommended calling ahead and making an appointment with "Lee." HL Salon has two adjacent spaces in a little outdoor mall; she is on the right. Oh, and I got a little bottle of water upfront and candy at the end, which is certainly not a make or break factor for getting a haircut but it was a nice customer service touch. There's also free WiFi if for some reason you or someone you're with needs it. Not sure about a bathroom. read more

This was my first time coming into this salon, and not going to lie, I never really had a successful visit from any salon before. I requested a bob haircut after seeing a picture on the wall. Usually bob haircuts suit those with coarse hair better and I never had a great bob haircut with my hair (which is wavy and not coarse). However, the hairstylist cut it perfectly! She was really nice and seemed like she cared a lot about the customers well-being. At other places I've been to, hairstylists tend to rush the session as quickly as possible in order to get to the next customer, but she took her time (and I appreciate that a lot).
