A small update to my previous review. For Americans, be careful how you pay with a credit card in this restaurant. My receipt stated "I have been offered a choice of payment currencies, including CAD." I don't recall being given that choice, though I may have been. Ah the White Spot. Been around for decades! I remember my grandma taking me to the WS in the 70s (oh my do I date myself) & me freaking out like a little school girl, over the glass that I had my drink in. I wanted that glass so badly I cried. Grandma tried to buy it for me. Gawd bless her soul. Back in the day the WS would draw families in with their kids via The Pirate Pack. The kids meal would be served on a Pirate Pak - a paper / cardboard boat & my brother & I, in fact every kid would go absolutely bonkers! Not sure if that still happens today? Ah those we're the days when I had no bills or stress. I had not been to the WS in over 30 years nor did I miss it. A few years ago, the WS went through a major renovation updating the interior decor at all their restaurants. However, it still feels old to me. My Monty Burger was just ok. Couldn't really taste the 'secret sauce' WS is famous for. My cocktail - good. The highlight & sensation - my chocolate milkshake - it was excellent. I almost might go back just for that. These days the crowd at WS is mainly of the geriatrics type, according to my observation. This older generation must have come here frequently as kids & as a result, still love the WS today. Went to this spot for a quick bit since it was close to my hotel. I order the Poutine and a blueberry milk shake. Im sure locales will say that is not the best place for Poutine. Compared to the ones I had in South Florida it was good. Now the blueberry milk shake was excellent. The host the server were real nice and profesional. The location was nice and welcoming. Came here on a afternoon weekend with my friends to try an item from their happy hour menu. I love poutine in general so I ordered their $8 poutine which is their happy hour price, regularly $11.50. But I wouldn't order it again. First of all, the portion is way too small for $8. It's a sidedish at best. But at $8 for a small sidedish poutine, it better have better ingredients than just regular cheese curds, fries, and gravy. Why not put some bacon or something to elevate it a little? The poutine is just like any poutine you would buy at any fast food joint and the price point of $8 doesn't make sense. It's better than Mcdonalds or burger king (pretty low bar to pass), but new york fries poutine's version is still miles better. They taste better (the gravy's amazing!) and New York fries would even give a bigger portion than White spot for about the same price, all the time. The cut fries are appropriately thick cut and cooked well at least. The gravy added just a little flavor to the poutine. The cheese curds are just OK. Very standard. So overall it's just OK in terms of taste. I would pay $5-6 max for what it is right now. I did like they were served on a fancy mini cast iron plate usually put for a nice piece of steak or salmon to make it appear expensive. Service was good though. Our server was fast and friendly, and i felt she took a good care of us. The dining area tables were spotless and very roomy. Nice huge windows to look outside of. Based on this visit, I'm giving white spot 3 out of 5 mostly because their poutines are on the small side but just average tasting. read more

Ordered last night via Uber eats ... the zoo sticks we got drained about 1/2 the deep fryer oil over the rest of the food. Hair in the burger, the coleslaw just tasted wrong ... We know the food can't arrive piping hot, but cooler than room temperature wasn't expected. When we go there the food is much better. read more

White Spot is definitely a great place if you have young kids. I came here with a friend with her young toddler and the Pirate Pack was great to keep her engaged while we hung out. The food itself was not that great. I got the chicken teriyaki donburi bowl and there was way too much sauce that it completely soaked up the rice and still had lots leftovers. It was also nice to not have loud music so it made it easier for conversation. Would recommend for a dinner out with family but otherwise, would recommend skipping if coming for food. read more

Well.. it's a white spot. I got exactly what I expected. I've been to many white spots before, but it's my first time at this location. Parking was easy and service was nice. Food came a bit slow. My wife joined me on her lunch hour and it's a little annoying how we had to wait 30 minutes for 2 of the most basic burgers. The food quality was expected. We got the legendary and chicken burgers. Decent. nothing particularly exciting nor disappointing.. or noteworthy. I kinda wish there's a larger selection of chicken burgers tho. I think there's only one. Hmmmm if you come on a quiet night it's better than when it's crazy busy and that's the problem. When is it not busy? This location is always packing at dinner time and the food is reasonably consistent, but I keep finding things that are a bit disconcerting for me and that is the overall price VS serving portions on some dishes. One of my favourite dishes here is the spaghetti and meatballs. Especially post Op, I've kinda lost my appetite for food, and yet, I can still enjoy this dish. The problem is that it is getting smaller and smaller and the price although still ok, is pricey for what I get. I don't want to be cheap here, but pasta is one of the cheapest meals to cook in a restaurant and has one of the highest profit margins for food dishes served. This is something all us cooks and culinary followers know. Pasta is cheap, so why not put more on the plate? Anyways, we did take out and that just made it worse. Everything take out seems so tiny. Especially the Hunter chicken. Where's the chicken? Oh there it is.... and in two bites, it was eaten, literally and I don't have a big mouth..........or do I? Compared to their competitor, it doesn't chalk up. Still the chain is one of my favourites and I am a spotatarian of sorts. Heck, we bought Peter Toigo's old Tripple O yaht. Early today we were at another location in science world and they had a poutine burger. It consist of bacon, beef patty and poutine. We added mushrooms in there and it was the perfect burger. Every bite bad fries and burger and it was straight goodness. We went to get another one at the Richmond location but was shit out of luck. They don't serve it here :( but this is what we ended up ordering and all of the dishes were delicious. This was the first time I've been here for breakfast. I usually go for a typical dinner when I'm craving the legendary burger with zoo sticks. But my aunt and uncle chose to eat here and I was ready for a new experience! I would say this place is just okay for breakfast. I was being cheap and got the BC sunny breakfast thing (6.99) that was like a breakfast burger with hash browns. I chose the shredded potatoes instead of the smash ones. The burger had a ton of sauce in it and lots of bacon and cheese. Pretty fattening and filling breakfast. The service was average and I would say the food is what I would expect White Spot food to be. It's okay! I'll probably go again for dinner but maybe not breakfast as there's so many other options out there. read more

I must say I was delighted by the brunch we had here today. White Spot is not my usual breakfast/brunch choice but our first choice closed down. We were seated quickly by a cheerful hostess and greeted immediately by the waitress who took our drink orders. It was late almost lunch time so they didn't have their full breakfast menu but it didn't matter. I chose the Breakfast Burger on their all-day brunch menu. The burger was loaded with bacon, cheese, an sunny-side up egg and an onion ring. It also came with a side of crispy (bottomless) smashbrowns and the classic coleslaw. The burger was fresh, surprisingly hot and juicy. It definitely hit the spot. My beau had the Hearty breakfast with mwed poached eggs, chorizo, sourdough bread, smashbrowns and a side of bacon. He se pot knows how to cook their bacon to perfection. On a side note, I do enjoy the staff at this location. They are usually very friendly and quick. Parking is easy to find here too, but make sure if you plan on doing some shopping at the other stores, you aren't walking off the parking lot. This location has certainly improved over the years. They make the best potatoes: fries for lunch and smashed potatoes for brunch, and did I mention that they are endless? When they say endless, they mean it! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Great casual place to get a good burger and if you're feeling particularly healthy, I'd recommend their candied salmon and spinach salad. How things aren't what you remembered them to be like is probably the stretch I will go when coming to a White Spot, and oddly enough I ended up here on Saturday night, not by choice, but someone who hasn't had a burger from here in more than a decade decided that they wanted one. Richmond is an odd place sometimes, especially during 10 PM and beyond.. a place filled with Asian food, yet most of them don't open after a certain time baffles me.. and we are left we places like this to go to. Well, this wasn't my choice, so might as well suck it up and go eat. When coming in here what I notice is.. nothing has really changed.. in terms of decor. Still using the old green that makes up the logo, and at night this place looks extra dark, like a restaurant from the 90's. We were sat along the back, and this place was dark, probably a good way to mask how the food really looks in the light! The menu's came quite quickly and I put in an order for their Monty Mushroom Burger, and also their Chicken Pick'ns.. didn't know what to expect.. but my expectations were not high. Just like everything in life, prices go up.. but in White Spot's case.. I feel like we got gouged.. right between the eyes. I love how the website really doesn't show you the price (unless you really look).. but for $14.. at least.. the burgers White Spot serves better be f'ing amazing. I didn't realize time of day coincides with lack of quality, if this was the case.. maybe you should do a late-night dinner menu and discount the price by a certain percentage so you can accomodate for the lack-luster food you are serving. So when the burger came, it was pretty underwhelming. This thing looked like it was under the heat lamp for a good amount of time. The onion rings I substituted were actually pretty hefty and big, but as a substitution, paying more money, shouldn't I get the same amount of carbs that is leaving my plate... I just felt the 6 onion rings.. some really tiny.. didn't equate. I remember this mushroom burger really bursting at the seams with mushrooms, this one just had a bit on top of the meat, not really befitting of being called anything with a special name.. more like burger with a side of mushrooms on top please. The Chicken Pick'ns.. now this was really not good. Something on their menu that this was a limited time.. well hurry up and fly away, cause this secret batter was just that.. a good secret that I don't want to know about. When you're thinking that the Colonel maybe having better chicken.. you have a problem. These things looked like fried batter balls, not attractive, and to know that it was just fried chicken for 2 pieces at $14... again.. what the heck is going on here. If you want food like this in Richmond, especially after 10 PM, you got slim pickings.... maybe that's why it survives, especially at outrageous prices for lackluster quality, the only reason why this doesn't go 1 star is that it is open late at night, and the service wasn't bad. It's going to take me awhile to come back.. but the days of remembering my childhood and the Pirate Pack are gone! read more

The server that day made the dining experience lacklustre. We asked for a table for three and our server gave us two cutlery settings and two menus. When we asked for water, she dropped off two glasses of water and one glass of water with lemon. We were pretty sure she forgot the third glass of water and gave the lemon water from another table. I had ordered a traditional candied salmon and goat cheese omelette and ended up with scrambled eggs. I did not want to send the food back because at that point I did not want to wait any longer for a replacement. Came here on Pirate Pak Day and it was busy but less overwhelming than I thought. Server was a bit off. He kept on asking if I wanted drinks, fries or ice cream when these should be included in my order. Or did he meant if I wanted extra??? Pirate paks: -Bacon Cheddar Burger (3/5): In the center of the ship sits the burger on top of some fries. At the end is a small cup of slaw and at the front of the ship is a whole which I believe where the drink should have been. We got ours in a glass. The burger was alright. Tasted like a fast food burger. I could have sworn it tasted better the first time I came but that was at the richmond Centre location. The slaw was alright as well. Gave the meal a refreshing note. The fries were a big soggy and didn't feel fresh. When we ordered seconds, those were double fried and crispy. -Mediterranean Chicken Burger (2.5/5): Same assembly as the above. Chicken breast was a bit lopsided and was difficult to share amongst each other. In my opinion it was bland and a tad bit on the dry side. All other condiments were the same. -Toasted shrimp sandwich (3.5/5): Baby shrimps in white toast with some mayo, lettuce and chili sauce. The bread was golden and there was ample amount of sauce so that it's not too dry. This tasted the best out of the three PP we got. We tried the vanilla (3/5) and strawberry (2.5/5) ice cream. We all agreed that vanilla tasted the best. Due to the bowl being too hot, two of our ice creams were half way melted before it got to us. Only one scoop was perfectly round. The service at this location was warm, attentive and friendly, though two of the three items we ordered were rather cold and stale by the time it got to our table. My poutine was probably one of the worst I've ever had, for the price I paid I've definitely had better at fast food chains. The gravy and fries were all cold and the cheese curds too, I almost wanted to have them reheat it for me but couldn't bother. The breakfast dish my colleague ordered came cold as well, the only saving grace was the clam chowder. I liked that it wasn't so heavy and creamy, apparently it's quite the favourite amongst customers. I've had better but it's decent in portion and taste for the price. Overall I'd give it three since the environment and service was good. Don't think I plan on coming back though, food just isn't very good for the price. read more

I wish I could give this location a better rating, but my recent experience wasn't that good. Due to the NBA Championship game going on, the restaurant was naturally more full of people. I was seated quite far from the TVs which didn't bother me, as I knew I arrived late in the evening, and most of the seats near the TVs were taken. What made me feel uncomfortable was a combination of some of the guests, service, and food. The guests often stared at my family and made us feel awkward. The bartender was too immersed in the basketball game that he or she forgot to make my drink several times. And the food portions were quite small. As a former fan of White Spot and from Ca. This is not the restaurant I remember. My burger was small and burnt on the edges. The sauce was no where near the old one. Asked for extra sauce and received a cup with red relish and mayo. Not like orginal. Service was poor. Do not recommend. read more

This restaurant is pretty good ! When I came in, they didnt ask my name and I wasn't greeted immediately,but the service was fast and I could spend a great time there. The hostess was well dressed, according to the restaurant theme and she was really kind with me.She was always smilling and speaking with a good and friendly voice/tone with the guests.However they didn't ask my name, but she(the waitress)was really kind to me and when she attended me she said "no rush how much time you need,when you ready just call me. The place was really comfortable.The seat was a large couch with a big table but they didn't offered me to sit in a smoking section and I didn't see one actually. I knew I should have stuck to my usual choice of fare at White Spot, but that day I was feeling adventurous and went for the Bishop's Curry -fresh BC chicken breast simmered with sweet bell peppers and mushrooms in a delicately spiced orange, apple and organic tomato coconut milk curry sauce over Jasmine rice. Served with naan bread, mango chutney and cilantro. If it's named after John Bishop, I can't go wrong, right?? Well, it arrived, and sad to say, I should of ordered my Wild Salmon burger instead. There were only a few small pieces of chicken, lots of peppers and mushrooms. The curry flavour was ok, nothing too special, and not too fragrant. The rice was a little undercooked, and some grains were stuck together. I was a little disappointed. I would have given this 2 stars, considering we still had to wait for a table when clearly there were lots of tables open. One extra star goes to their service, which was good, and they kept on refilling the ice tea, and he was attentive throughout our lunch. read more

This isn't one of the newer or newly renovated White Spots and it's starting to look a little worn but it's still A-OK. The service is good. Making a reservation over the phone was quick and easy and the person I spoke to was friendly. It can be difficult to get a server's attention once it gets busy, but that's par for the course. The food is the standard White Spot fare: tasty and fairly reasonably priced. You can't go wrong with the burgers. Finding a parking spot is easy though maneuvering through the parking lot to get to White Spot from Ackroyd Road is a potentially hairy experience due to the busy PriceSmart Foods nearby. read more

So, I stopped off here with my friend and her daughter for a quick and easy lunch. I don't usually go to white spot, but if I do, I get my standard mushroom burger, and sub the fries for onion rings, done. Then after ordering, I found Simon K's review, who had a pretty dismal review for the exact same thing I ordered. oh damn. I hoped the burger was gonna be a bit better, and tried to keep an open mind. When i got the burger, it looked alright, the onion rings were nicely fried and crispy. But the burger patty was so incredibly dry, I needed water to wash down each bite. The mushrooms weren't seasoned at all, and I think they didn't put triple O sauce on my burger. My friend ordered the same thing, and felt the same way. For a burger chain who claims to have the best burgers in BC for $14 a pop, this was really disappointing. We had a kid with us, and didn't want to turn lunch into a longer ordeal than needed, so we didn't say anything about our burgers when asked how things were. I did send off an email to White Spot HQ when I got home, and I actually got a call from them right away, apologizing for the dry burgers. The manager sent me a gift certificate, and told me to come back and try their new "burger stars", featuring a truffle mushroom burger, which was really nice on their part. I LOVE White Spot. Yes, they sell lame 'American food' and it's just your typical burgers and salads and pastas but I can't explain it...there is something about White Spot that has me hooked. When I was back in Richmond for the summer I probably ate here 5-6 times. In terms of items on the menu I'm a pretty big fan of all of the options. Their legendary burger is always delicious and a crowd favorite but their Bishop's Curry and Lifestyle Chicken Tikka are the bomb diggity. On a side note I also came here for their Pirate Pak day where adults (or really, anyone over the age of 10) can also eat their meal in a cardboard pirate ship. My inner child was giddy with excitement. In short, eat at White Spot. Just do it. read more
