The place has a dated retro look, with vinyl seats and plenty of Elvis style stuff. Definitely a blast from the past. Staff are friendly and helpful. No complaints. The deluxe burger is pretty juicy. Got juice all over my hands trying to eat the thing. I had the salad instead of fries, and it was pretty decent. This place also has quite a large all day breakfast menu. I noticed this diner near where I was staying in Kitsilano. One can't help but notice the figures of Elvis and Marilyn Monroe when passing by. I stopped in for supper and felt like I was stepping into a time zone. The place is full of '50s decor and Tom and Jerry cartoons play on small tvs from above. The menu includes all-day breakfast and other items. I went for a basic burger and fries. The portion size was overwhelming. The burger was thick and juicy, on a brioche bun with aioli, lettuce, tomato, and pickle. The thin fries were a mountain of crispness. Prices are quite high - my meal was $23 without a beverage and my pop was $4 with refills. Service could have been better - I pretty much had to get my server's attention when I wanted a pop refill and the bill. But the portion size and food quality was impressive. read more

Have you seen Back To The Future? Walking into this place was like going back in time, and I'm not just referring to the charming decor, but also the genuine service and the great menu. Ok here it goes....these days I find that when I eat out I can't escape the reality of 2023 dine out. Which is what?.....well....paying more for less and having a robot serve it.....half the time luke warm. This place reminded me of a time before capitalism took over, before the internet where you had to actually...yeah....make eye contact and smile at another human being, before paranoia was an underlying theme. Ok.. getting a little sidetracked. The menu was awesome. They have plenty of everything. My go-to breakfast are Benny's and they have a colourful selection of those. Every single item was fresh, beautifully put together with care and attention and the potatoes were baked nicely paired with a generous cup of fruit (see pic.) The coffee was good...actually quite good considering it was just a house roast and it was served in a sparkling clean cup. The entire restaurant was super clean...which I loved. You know...no little drips on the rim where the server explains....Oh it must've dripped from the pot, or little dusty corners on the booth seats, and water marks on the tables from whatever semi-wet wiping rags were used from the previous guests. Nope. This place was immaculate. The Service. Exceptional. Not only were they friendly...they were genuine. Yes there's a difference. Some places they are friendly but not genuine....you know...the forced smiles. Then there is genuine friendly where you can feel the appreciation, the gratitude and a vibe that could only mean...they wanna be there. They like what they do and are happy to have you there. Energy and vibe...goes a long way...in either direction. Not for a second did we have to ask for anything. It was provided before we even knew we wanted it. Waited at the hostess booth today for 5 minutes being ignored by staff; when the hostess finally approached to seat us, a letter group walked up behind us, and the hostess refused to seat us so she could seat the larger group. There are no vegan options here. They have an impossible patty burger on the menu. I ordered a vegan burger. It was delivered with cheese, so I asked if it was vegan. Was told "No," and that the bun wasn't vegan either. I asked about a different menu item and told that too wasn't vegan. The only option the waitress gave was a side salad. I've passed this cute, retro diner a few times in the past few years, always stopping to smile at the life-size kitsch statues of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis outside their door - sometimes even stopping to snap a few photos with these figures!, - but only recently did I venture inside for lunch. Now I'm wondering what the heck took me so long to come here. It's so darn cute, in an over-the-top 50's kinda way! Stepping inside, you might think you were on the set of Happy Days: bright red palette with 50's diner decor in abundance on the walls (think: old Coca Cola ads, pictures of 50's stars, figures of Chevy convertibles at drive-in theaters, etc). And the menu here also is heavily weighted with a retro diner vibe: burgers, basic club sandwich fare, breakfast foods (lots of egg dishes), tons of milkshake options. Nothing fancy, no humongous variety of meal options, just a decent amount of good ol' fashioned comfort foods. I liked how they offered half orders/half sizes of their eggs Benedict options. I also REALLY liked their fries. I usually don't like French fries at all, but here they are shoestring fries, and perfectly crispy, and not at all greasy. They are delicious here! (I had a BLT, which was perfect). When we visited, they were playing easy listening music from the 70's: Bread, Chicago, Air Supply. Stuff I hadn't heard in ages. I would love to submit a review of the food, but the service was so terrible that I wasn't even able to place an order for my kids to eat. It wasn't even busy on the day that we went and found it to be ridiculous that they would sit us at the back table in the corner (enough for 8 people) when there were other tables near the front enough for the five of us. Our "server" told us she would be with us in a few minutes when then ended up being over 15 minutes so we just decided to leave since my wife and kids were all hungry. I wanted to drink water, but didn't want to do so with the cup that was given to me with lipstick on it. Also, to charge $16.95 for toast, two eggs, potatoes, and fruit is just highway robbery! If you want good service and decent pricing on food, there are other places in the area that can do that much better than this place. read more

I definitely like the decor of this place. Very trendy and hip. Its like its decorated and designed by an Elvis fan. Or restaurant owned by an Elvis fan. Food here is mediocre. Service is super friendly. The restaurant is popular around neighboring locals. So came here and just ordered the classic egg Benedict. It was not bad. It came with potatoes and fruits. The potatoes were interesting. Flat and crispy. I like it that way. The fruits were awesome and is a very generous portion. Very tropical. There are outdoor seating as well and is great on a hot day. Parking is a hit and miss in the area. But there are free parking and can be found. Just need to be patient and roam around plus a little bit of luck. Overall, I highly recommend coming here. We ordered Burger (with shoestring fries and a salad) Classic Eggs Benedict Cafe latte The burger was noticeably well-seasoned -- better than I expected -- and the salad was generous. The fries were alright; I might have preferred by companions homefries. But this was a good meal. The decor of the restaurant tries to evoke a nostalgia for the 50s and succeeds pretty well, if you like that sort of thing. It was certainly more memorable than some diners. There are some red vinyl booth seats and jukebox too. After we shopped at farmers market, we came here for brunch. Glad we bit the rush and arrived early to avoid the line up. The extensive menu and friendly service. Good enough to gain my 4 star rating! My mom had Traditional egg benny, it's decent and eggs cooked perfectly. My friend recommended this diner for their eggs benedict, and they were sure on point. There was no wait and plenty of seating inside or outside. We sat inside in a booth and ordered a vanilla and espresso milkshake to share and I had the eggs benny. I really like that they allow you to mix or match the two bennys you get. I got a BC benny and the Canadian black bacon benny. It also came with a side of fresh fruit and potatoes. The bennys were so good. The hollandaise sauce was perfectly creamy and complemented the benedict very well. The BC benny had salmon, cream cheese, and onions and the other had bacon. It was a lot of food, but it was so good I finished the entire plate. Potatoes were just average but the side of fruit had every single fruit imaginable in that cup. The decor at Sunshine Diner is just amazing! My favourite touches are the blue car-inspired booths, and the looney-tunes playing on a Saturday mornng. Sunshine Diner is very much an adequate restaurant for bringing your family to or having brunch with your friends. However, prices can be quite high for even just a classic eggs benny. While I'm not a big fan of the house fries offered, the servers are nice enough to let me substitute the french fries as no extra charge. I like them particularaly because they're thin and addictive. On a busy Saturday morning, the service was a bit slow, but that was expected as all the tables were full and a small line was forming. Overall, I would come back again for the ambiance and food, but it's not worth the price point it is set as. read more

My friends and I accidentally stumbled upon this place while we were in the neighbourhood and we decided to test it out for brunch. The food was great and it had a good range of options for my friend who has Coeliac. It has a classic diner feel complete with quirky booths and a plethora of retro artwork along the walls. I had the smoked salmon bagel that came with a side of salad and fries. I forgot to check what kind of bagel it was but it had smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, and onions on top. It had a good balance of textures and flavours and I enjoyed it immensely. The fries were super skinny and crispy (my favourite) and the salad was a standard garden variety. I had it with the raspberry vinaigrette which was delicious. My husband tried the Fat Elvis burger and although it wasn't quite to his taste I found it to be hearty with a great fresh taste. One of my friends had the Marilyn Benny and the other had the Sinatra Benny. The hollandaise sauce was top notch and everything on their order was cooked well. The eggs benedicts came with a side of fresh fruits and a chunky potato has brown. The potatoes were slightly undercooked but well seasoned, and the fruit was fresh. Everything tasted great but we personally didn't think it was really worth the price or the trip to Kits for. Really been wanting brunch during quarantine so I got an order from Sunshine Diner! I was surprised at how well the eggs Benedict held up through delivery, the hollandaise sauce came in a separate container to be spread on top of the eggs on your own. Cut into the eggs and it was that perfect runny yolk that I've been wanting for a while now! The sausages were not my favourite and the scrambled eggs were good. The tater tots were slightly disappointing and not exactly what I expected but it is hard to keep everything tasting great through delivery! We were looking for breakfast before driving our gang to the airport. Some wanted breakfast and some desired lunch. A sign outside the "Sunshine Diner" promised the best eggs Benny in BC. We had some serious eggs Benedict lovers in our group so I was a bit nervous, but we headed inside. The back of the diner had a large u-shaped booth perfect for our needs. The decor kept us busy while we waited for our orders, debating what movies the celebrities were portraying in the portraits. The vintage auto seats provided photo opps. There were a great variety of eggs benny and they did live up to the hype. Yes -it is a pricier breakfast- but even the most frugal member of our party was won over by the hollandaise sauce. Those who had lunch sandwiches felt they were good but they could have made the same thing at home. Everyone however, was head over heels in love with the home fries. The servers had an air of "having seen it all" but they were gracious and accomodating to our large, somewhat raucous group and I found them good sports. I've been to this diner twice, and each time I go, it seems to get a little better. My first trip, last summer, saw me wander in, mainly attracted by the more-or-less life-sized statues of Elvis and Marilyn outside the diner. Well, that - plus I was hungry, and, quite frankly, I like diners. I opted for their speciality, the Sunshine Burger. It had the usual ingredients one might expect on a signature burger - cheese, bacon, tomato, etc. It was nice and juicy. I also had a green salad with it. I really liked the fact they offered orange milkshakes (my fav) and they're REAL milkshakes, that is, they come in those big steel drum-like containers used for the old-style milkshake mixers. Speaking of old-style, they really did this up nice with decorations, lots of 1950's memorabilia featured inside and out, including the aforementioned statues on the sidewalk outside the diner. I thought at the time, this could potentially become a go-to burger place for me, except, well, it's not as close as some of my other favourite burger joints, and parking is more of an issue. And the burgers were not quite as good as a few of my other fav's. But if you're in that part of Kitsilano, you can't beat it. The second time I went, I was accompanied by my other half, the Divine Ms. K., for brunch one Saturday. She order the eggs benny with home fries. She said they were both topnotch (I'll second that on the home fries). Me, I was like a rebel without a clue - I ordered the James Dean Burger, complete with a fried egg, split roasted sausage, tomato and lettuce. Again, I had the salad ... mainly because I knew I'd end up eating half my partner's home fries. I enjoyed this trip to the Sunshine even more than my first. Even the coffee was good - something many restaurants do not often get right, these days. Love this diner! So fun inside with a very olden diner vibe but it still feels very modern. Eggs Benny is my go to brunch and this is some of the best eggs Benny I've ever had, and Ive definitely had a lot. I love the sides they have accompanying the Benny, often times the potato hashbrowns from other places are too dry or the pieces are too big for me to finish the meal. At sunshine diner you pick two sides from a selection. Both the French fries and the chips are absolutely delicious and having some fruit on the side is such a nice addition to a carb heavy dish. The only downside of this place is how busy is it! Really goes to show how good it is though. They do take reservations which I highly recommend for Sunday brunch time. The staff are extremely friendly even when they're packed as hell. Took a little while for us to get the attention of our server to order, we were also not quite sure who our server was for a while so it seemed we called upon quite a few bussers or servers that belonged in other sections. It would've been helpful if our server introduced themselves when we sat down or someone else we asked prompted our server that we were ready to order. Hopefully more communication between servers and bussers can be instilled in the future but I would absolutely jump on the opportunity to come again whenever I can. read more

The hollandaise was rich and no complaints about the benny overall however the homefries were again barely seasoned but also soggy/soft on the inside (refer to pic) which I didn't find appetizing. They're super long. Be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes for a table on the weekend. ~Kitschy and cool 50's style diner. It's a sea of Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley and James Dean inspired decor. ~ Order a malt. You won't regret it. My favourite is the Butterscotch malt. ~ Order an eggs benny of some sort. They're soooo delicious. My favourite is the Mmmmarvelous mushroom eggs benny. Sauce is a bit on the heavy side, but still very yummy. ~Now here's the deal. The reason this place doesn't get the full 5 stars is due to the service there. The waitresses are usually swamped and run off their feet. They're usually very friendly, but sometimes forgetful. The service there also takes quite a long time and you might have to wave down your waitress when you need a top up on your coffee/tea/water. So why do I keep going back? I went to Sunshine Diner on Greek Day and sat in the patio. It was a super nice summer day so it was a great experience! In the morning I rode 60 km in the Ride Don't Hide event for mental health. We got to Sunshine at about 3 pm so I was starving. I had the breakfast sandwich with the turkey sausage with 2 fried eggs. The platter also came with home fries and a nice fruit salad.
