New York Au Poivre - best steak dinner I've ever had
    Morgan D.

We were visiting from out of town and decided to give this place a try. WOW. EVERYTHING was perfect. Our server, Linda, was so kind and attentive, the food was unbelievable and it was also a great ambience. The steak dinner was the best I've ever had - cooked to perfection, flavor out of this world, and every side was incredible. Even the bread was phenomenal. We have been talking and thinking about this meal constantly since having it - no lie we will randomly bring it up in conversation. GO HERE.

This place has left me with some mixed opinions. I was eager to dine here due to the glowing reviews and scenic outdoor backdrop. Given the location and fact that we are here during a holiday, we decided that we should call and ask if a reservation was required. The staff member who answered the phone told us that they could accommodate us at the bar or deck area but not in the dining room. That was completely fine by us as we were looking to dine outside anyhow! We gave our name and looked forward to coming. Fast forward to arrival. We explained that we had called a short while prior and that a table would be available for us. Well we were led to the dining room. We were surprised but figured that perhaps something opened up or became available. When a server came out, we had expected menus but instead received a scolding for taking a table that wasn't reserved for us! We were so confused. We explained that we were seated there when in reality we had just hoped for an outdoor table. The waitress told us to go ask the hostess outside for a table and that dining room reservations were to be made months in advance. Like okay, we never even asked about the dang dining room? So we step onto the patio where THREE employees are standing engrossed in conversation. I made eye contact and was clearly there expecting to be helped. The three women continued their conversation despite one nudging the hostess to take care of us. When she FINALLY decided to be helpful, she said she couldn't seat us outdoors because the kitchen was closing... IN AN HOUR! Yes she said that the kitchen was going to close in an hour. It's not like we showed up 5 minutes before closing. It was 8pm on a holiday weekend. We finally wound up at a table in the bar area. At this point we are just hungry and ready to eat. We ended up with Martin as a server and let me say that he is the only redeeming employee that we encountered here. Very friendly and provided great service. As for food I ordered the caprese salmon and added a side of truffle Mac. The salmon was just slightly over cooked which did dry it out a bit. The balsamic dressing was tasty though. The side salad served with it looked like it came straight out of a prepackaged grocery store bag. It wasn't bad but I expected something a bit more eye appealing here. And finally I will give credit where credit is due... the truffle Mac and cheese was stellar. Fragrant with all that great truffle flavor. Final thought? Great atmosphere. Slightly above average food. The setting is what drives people in I'd say.

Ate here for the first time after snowboarding for the day. They serve you hot bread and butter to start. We ordered a few appetizers. We got the smoked trout, mushrooms and escargot. The sauce that came with the smoked trout was kinda spicy and kinda tasted like a thousand island dressing with horseradish. I wasn't a fan. The escargot were covered with a ton a cheese which was too much. The mushrooms were flavorful and buttery. For my entree I upgraded to the beet salad and got the jumbo shrimp with truffle Mac and cheese which was delicious and cheesy. My friend got prime rib and another friend got the rib eye which were both cooked perfectly. The servers all wore masks but the bartenders did not. The tables were also socially distanced. Two stars for the Service bc getting our food was super slow. 3 stars for The appetizers. 4 star for the main entrees.

My husband and I celebrated our 46th Anniversary at Whitefish Lake Restaurant. I looked on Yelp and since it had good reviews I thought this would be a perfect place to go. I like rustic places so this was perfect. It has a very nice patio overlooking the golf course. We decided to share our dinner because we like having dessert. We had shrimp cocktail for an appetizer which was good. We split the filet mignon which was very good, very tender. We also split the baked potato and a few vegetables and the amount was perfect. We split their crème brûlée for dessert, they added a sparkler in it Make sure you make reservations.

Superb food! The steak was like butter. The vegetable sides were to die for. Smoked trout appetizer was delicious. My husband's steak was amazing as well. A+!!

The star here was the food. We ordered the tacos and fish and chips. The tacos are double walled - crunchy shell inside wrapped in a wheat tortilla. We chose the blackened cod and braised pulled pork. Both were generously portioned and quite flavorful. We also ordered the fish and chips and this was the real surprise. Crunchy seasoned batter and large pieces of cod. No kidding - we had to go 500 miles from Puget Sound to get the best fish and chips this side of Little Chinooks at Fisherman's Terminal! Need to say that the drinks we ample and balanced. We ordered the Huckleberry Mojito and the Bloody and could not have been more pleased! We went into Craggy Range expecting standard pub grub fare and were more than pleased with the results. Want to say the service - our server and the bartender did a great job! We started with a clearly number 1 cocktail served in a beehive glass--cool looking and a perfectly balanced/composed cocktail . We also had the seasonal shrub which was watermelon jalepeno and again delicious--not overly sweet with a nice kick. I did get to choose the heat level, and it didn't disappoint. For food , we started with chickpea fritters with a tamarind chutney. The presentation and taste were flavorful and creative. For our main, we both had the tempura golden enoki. I don't often eat vegetarian dishes out but glad not to miss this outstanding creation with a sticky rice waffle base, baby bok choi, black garlic XO tempura enoki and a green curry sauce . Certainly the best meal I have had this year and quite surprised to find it in Whitefish MT. Props to the chef !!!

We started off with the Alaskan Halibut Corndog, its more of a cooked more inside, and I kid you not I wish I ordered another of these it was so good! We also had the  Bunuelo which is shaped to mimic a pretzel that was filled with a glorious goat cheese mousse and kraut powder and a little jalapeno relish I have never in my life tasted anything like it, it was sensational. If you see this on the menu immediately order it. Next up was the Dungeness Crab Cake there is something to be said about a beautiful rendition of this dish with its flaky generous portions of crab, thoroughly enjoyed. The Grilled Korean Short Rib was an absolute favorite of mine as well, there is no way you cold get enough of it. For the mains we had the Pan Seared Duck Breast 4/5 came with the most beautiful cherry mole and corn succotash that was just exception, the balance on this speaks to the chefs talent. Now the issue here was actually the duck, one side of the breast just seemed very over and chewy while the other was perfect which is a shame but I am glad to have tried it. My kid thoroughly enjoyed Lamb Ragu with gnocchi and I honestly couldn't agree more and how well made the gnocchi was, pillow soft and utterly flavorful. But the real star of the night was Wagyu with tallow fried tater tot, chimichurri and brown butter carrots I would say though this dish commands a price, it was absolutely worth it, done exactly as ordered and every bite of each component was heavenly. For dessert we had the Cornbread dessert with miso caramel and burnt honey ice cream and it blew my mind, I am not a honey person but there's also a sense of trust you gain while eating that the kitchen knows best so dive in head first and it didn't disappoint we also had the Evening in Missoula Panna Cotta with rhubarb, orange blossom meringue and coconut boba the burst of flavors I kept getting and the delightful panna cotta was superb. Both the desserts were comped by the restaurant since even though we had a reservation we waited far too long of a time, it was close to 45min before we were seated because the previous customer had paid but were holding the table up. To me that's not something I can shrug off, I understand that they were full but 20min max I can excuse more than double is a hard swallow regardless of how great are host eventually was (Hi Dennis, you were awesome thank you!) and I appreciate the free deserts but overbooking might have been your issue here.
