On thanksgiving we got a prime rib roast from whites. paid over $200 for it. It was so tough we had to cut it up for stew meat when I said something to them they said nothing not even an apology. it has been 2years since then i will not go back. read more

On Saturday December 21st 2019, went to Whites Country Meat Market, did some meat shopping. I have to say White Country Meat Market is the best! When we got home I started to put the meat away and noticed the girl that helped us didn't put my 4 1/2 lb Chuck roast in the bag and we were charged for it. So I'm thinking oh crap I have to drive back there, then I thought I will call them 1st I asked to speak to the manager Randy and I explained what happened his responds was what is your address I gave it and he said we will bring you one right away and let me tell you they delivered it quickly. I love this place, lots of choices, decent prices. I love their twice baked potatoes. I love meat markets when you feel like going to a steak restaurant. They're super easy and quick to cook, and you can get a better quality cut, for way less than eating out. I mean you can get 2 primo steaks, 2 twice baked potatos, dinner rolls or bread (lots of yummy choices) for like $20 depending on the cut of meat, then buy a nicer bottle of wine than you usually do, and still end up spending less than half of what you would have at a CHEAP steak place, while getting better quality than the high end places. The folks here are always helpful on how to cook stuff, and it's like a candy store in here, so many delicious looking options for the carnivore. I love stuffed chicken, and always want to try everything. This is a go-to place for stay at home date night, you can eat like a king, on a jester's budget. read more

Love Whites! They have great cuts of the bacon wrapped filet mignon. We love coming in to pick up some steaks for dinner. It's always busy!! There aren't many butcher shops around in Portland/Gresham area. This one is not super close to my house but I still drive out of the way to come here. Staff is always helpful, friendly and quick at getting your items. I've only had one bad experience in this place and that's when I was pregnant. Walked in and the scent hit me like a ton of bricks lol I almost puked!! The entrance to the location can be a little tricky. It's easy to miss the entrance! I've made it my mission to start coming in at least twice a month to pick up steaks. Also, if you're not aware the also carry some of the best twice baked potatoes!! So easy and good; just pop them in the microwave for a few minutes and they're ready for dinner. Pepperoni sticks are also a must. It's only 5 for about 5 or 6 bucks. If you have headed over the mountains through Gresham, you have passed by this butcher shop and not even know what you are missing. Most people love the jerky, but i think it is terrible, but I have a kid that would kill for it. I go there mostly for their bacon and wieners and pepper steak, but they have so much to offer. It a great place for special occasion needs such at fresh turkeys, crown roasts, or prime rib. I do know they do a large business is processing wild game, but i am not a hunter so I have never used that service. On Friday they also have fresh fish available. They have a freezer that has a selection of item that are very good. I often buy the frozen breaded veal patties which are so good. One of the best things there is the staff. There is always so many people behind the counter that you never have to wait long. You can walk in here on a Friday night and it will be packed with 20 people in the shop, you take a number and not even have enough to to decide what you want before they are calling your number. Everything you order is wrapped in white butcher paper and they tally your cost on them. I can't believe I waited so long to go in here for meat. I started going last summer for the first time. It is grillin' season now, at least for me, and I stopped in there today. The parking lot was so full we had to park on the street. It was a sea of people in there, but I pulled my number and called within a minute or less. They have plenty of staff working to keep things moving. I got a slab of beef ribs, which runs about $2.69 a pound, they have a lot of meat on them. They will cut them for you. Which is great to skip that part and get down to business of cooking them when you get home. read more

I love this place! It's always busy but service is really fast; I really like that when you walk in you take a number so that no one can cut in line. Not that anyone would -- there's a real family feeling among the employees and the customers. I love it because it's a real meat market, not just packages of stuff wrapped in plastic wrap. You can pick out exactly which cuts you'd like to have. If it's not on display, they'll cut it for you; for instance, when I want a nice pork shoulder, 5 pounds, for kalua pig, they cut it for me. We grew up here in the PNW and have tons of family in Oregon, when the military decided to bring us back here we were told to check this place out and we have not been disappointed at all! Why, why, WHY can't there be good meat markets like White's in middle Tennessee? A trip home for me usually includes a good treat (most likely a good marinated steak) from White's. Gresham doesn't have a lot of tasty food options going for it, its a whole lot of chains and no originality. My recommendation? If you have access to a grill or/and an oven just go to Whites. Pick up a steak, some potatoes and kebabs and make your own dinner! Even if you have the most rudimentary cooking skills the fine love and work put into the items in this Market make the flavors pop and you'll seem like the next Beard award winner. Yum! My family has been going here since I was a small kid. The quality has always been amazing. The old fashioned dogs are great on their own or for a campfire roast. The cheese hound dogs are great as well as the pepperoni sticks, pepper steaks, German sausage, summer sausage, and so much more. We've had deer and cows butchered here and it has always been exceptional. The prices here are kind of unreal. There is no other place you can get such great meats at such a low price. For the last 15 years I was buying meat all around the Portland Metro in the last couple years I'm driving all the way to White's once a week sometimes twice a week. Sense I eat only kosher meats that place have the cleanest and the highest quality meat I ever ate in the area. My dad hoped to get a cougar for 48 years.... when he finally shot one we took the meat here to be made into sausage. About 3 weeks later we called to check the status of the order and they told us that "last week we cut into the bag and saw fur so we threw it away......" they never even called and told us, AND THEY THREW IT AWAY. Granted, we accidentally took the hide instead of the meat but now THE TROPHY is in the garbage. It was have taken 60 seconds to call us and let us know we brought the hide in and we would have drove down there to switch it out for the meat, but instead they threw the entire hide away along with the fish and game tag. My family has NEVER been so disappointed. My dad called and talked to the owner Randy who said he was the one who threw it away! Absolutely mind blowing..... my entire family will NEVER be visiting this meat market again based on the lack of common sense and disrespect that we experienced. read more

Very upset with my experience with Whites. We dropped our spike off November 14, 2018...was told it be 4-6 weeks. Called middle of December and was told they didn't know but they were backed up and it should be done soon. Called January 31st because we still hadn't received a call. The guy told me oh your all ready...my question was how long has it been ready because no one ever called us to let us know. The guy said oh I don't know that answer. My bf went in today to pick it up...$576.06 (which was absolutely ridiculous we have never paid this much...was there a holding fee we had no idea about???)...he hands the guy $600 but he doesn't even give him his change just says we round up...and no receipt to see the charges. He even asked when it was done and the guy still Couldn't tell him. The guy then brings the meat out on the cart and dumps it in the parking lot into another customers vehicle...worst service ever!! Whites has completely lost our business...they are not honest and very unprofessional...go somewhere else you'll be happier! read more

I just got home from Whites after a drive of 15 miles. I special ordered 14 1.25lbs pkgs. of thin sliced bacon. When I got home I counted the packages and there were only 10 but looking at my bill, they had charged me for the missing bacon as well. This is the 2nd time this has happened. Yeah I was only over charged about $50 bucks, (but that is a lot of money for me,) but if I want it rectified I will be put to the INCONVENIENCE and expense of driving back over to White's so they can correct their mistake. I used to buy from Gartner's Country Meat Market and since Gartner's is not that far further away from my house than White's I may switch back. The other thing that happened recently is we bought 2 boneless skinless chicken breast and they had the strangest texture. I've never seen or eaten chicken like it before. It was like artificial chicken meat - like as fake crab meat is to real crab meat. And that isn't the only bad meat we've gotten from Whites. We have had bad experiences with boneless rib eye steaks several time - very tough and they charge way too much to be selling steaks that are hard to chew. Some of the counter help is very friendly but others seem like they take meanie pills. Grumpy. I"m really unhappy that they can't get their act together. White's used to be a more reliable place to shop, but the younger guys that are running it now aren't doing a great job. read more

I agree with the other reviewers on the quality of the product and service up front. My beef (no pun) is due to one incident from several years ago. I brought in some venison to be processed into burger. The employee sent me to the back of the store where another employee instructed me to dump my meat into a tub that was on the ground outside in the back of the store. While I was looking down at the tub the employee picked another tub off the ground and placed it on top of the meat in the other tub(no barrier just ground contaminated tub on top of meat). There was also a lot of flys all over the meat since we were outside. They were treating this product as if it were going to the rendering plant to be made into dog food. I was disgusted and walked away with my meat. It took me some time to go back to the front counter after that and even now I have reservations. read more

I can honestly say this is the best place to buy your meats in the Portland metro area. I am lucky enough to live within 10 miles of this place so it is not a stretch at all for me to get my meat on here. Buying here can be quite frenzied if you go during busy hours. I am lucky enough to have a job where I can go during the day when it is not so busy. Otherwise, it is very helpful to have a list of things you would like to purchase before you pick your number to be waited on. I also like the fact that you can get your meat cut to your specification without questions as to why you prefer it that way. I once was accosted at another place due to the fact that I like a very small fatcap on my pork butts. Here, they just say ok, and trim your butt to your satisfaction. I also like the fact that every once in a while, they will put out bulk seasonings at a terrific price. They are not always available and you kind of have to wait for it, but it is sure worth it. read more

Ok...I went here to get bacon. I got tired of the crap bacon from grocery stores and OMG, I was blown away. The bacon was smoky and salty with tons of meat. It was thick cut and totally worth the few minutes wait. Yes it was like being in a sardine can for a few minutes but the service and the speed over rode that for sure. I cant believe how cheap some of their meats are. I try to get a few nice cuts there a month for me and the hubby. My kiddo loves the sausages and wieners. read more

I really love meat. Except for when I'm pregnant, then for some reason I can only stomach steak and sausage. Weird. So I've been coming here to buy all my meat because I know the filet mignon is and always will be on point, the sausage and hot dogs are so damn good, and the rib-eyes never lets me down.
