I've lived in Salem for years but this is the first time I tried White's. The atmosphere was very Mr. Roger's Neighborhood especially when the mailman brought in the mail. Kinda quaint. White's used to be my go to place for breakfast. Sadly not anymore. The last several times I've been there I've noticed the lack of quality in the food. The coffee is especially bad as it tastes like dirty water. Cleanliness has fallen off as well. I was served a cup of coffee (which I sent back) with dried coffee stains on the cup. When I mentioned it to the waitress she told me that was because she just poured it. But it was dried on the cup. She just didn't get it. After many years of enjoying White's, I'm sad to say that today will be the last time I give you a "second" chance. Good bye old friend. read more

Just went at 10:30 this morning & was disappointed. The most recent reviews were great, so I had high hopes. We were stuck in the tiny entryway & were not acknowledged by any of the waitstaff. I made the mistake of going to where the cook's counter was & got stinkeyed. I kindly told the dark-haired gal that it's our first time here & we wanted to know where to go or where to sit. She told me the blonde was clearing a spot for us. Said blonde came over with a less than happy look & said we could sit "over here". Uh oh! We did bad for not waiting in the doorway while people glided by us & bumped into us. Bad new customers! We sat & watched our fellow diners get served, have their orders taken & get refills on their coffee with smiles. We watched those that came after us get seated right away & get coffee & smiles. Our waitress did bring our juice & coffee, then took our order with mildly shielded aggitation. We just suck as newbies I guess. the food was good. I had the number 4 & my boy the number 12. His omlette was flawlesslsy stuffed with diced ham & cheese. The hashbrowns were crisp & flavorful and my sausage was delicious & not too greasey. The bread for toast was fresh & served warm. The meal was AWESOME! The only things that were mediocre were the coffee & the service. I had high hopes but I get treated better at Denny's. read more

That's too bad - I don't want to be a total downer, because I know there are plenty of people who like this place and eat there regularly, However, I am certainly not one of them -- not only do I find their greasy gut bombs unappetizing but it's just not appealling in any way, shape, or form. Whites Restaurant is a great all american dish place to eat. It has delicious food but the only thing that bothered me was the setting and service. When I was seated, I was seated directly at the same table as another family. I was hitting elbows with a random family while trying to eat. It wasn't to bad but it gave the restaurant an uncomfortable setting for me. When I received my food, it was the wrong order. I found out that they accidentally gave me another customers order. They were very fast for getting me the food I ordered after that. They also apologized for it. It didn't bother me to much because it was an accident but the whole overall experience wasn't that good. I might return to Whites Restaurant at some point again but it's definitely not going to be my first few choices. read more

I went there for breakfast. The waitress was friendly and the service was prompt. The portions were large but unremarkable. They did an excellent job cooking the bacon so kudos for that. I've been here a couple times. Love the food and the diner ambiance. You get huge portions for a great price. Sometimes it seems the food tastes better than other days...which tells me that maybe the cooks don't quite follow recipe standards in the kitchen. But more often it's still better than it's not (did that make sense?). Be ready for a busy breakfast crowd and a little bit of noise, which should be expected at a place that gets this crowded. read more

If you could ever envision an all american diner in middle america where farmer bob would take his wife and kids out to eat on Sunday morning before church this would be the place. You walk right in here and it is definitely reminiscent of classic diner complete with an army of middle aged female servers with names like Alice, Madge, Shirley, Betty, Janet, etc. You get the picture. I came in here with my friend Demitri and his son Ivo for breakfast this morning as we were looking for new joints to check out. We seated ourselves and was immediately greeted by our server this morning. Very sweet lady that reminded you of your grandmother when you were growing up. She promptly gets our drinks ready and takes our orders. She followed up quite frequently and at one point. even let us know our food was on its way shortly. I ordered the corn beef hash. My friend Demitri, ordered the french toast, and his son orders a short stack. Our food came out fairly quick considering how busy the restaurant was this morning. My corn beef hash pretty much looked like it came out of a can. Not that I hate that version of corn beef hash but I was expecting something a little more unique. It came with a side of hash browns, eggs, and instead of toast, I requested an english muffin. I'm a pretty methodical eater and like to eat my meal one section at a time. I slowly worked my food down to the last part which were the eggs and the english muffin. The english muffin was a little on the burnt side but the eggs were cooked over medium which is what my preference for eggs is. Overall ok meal but nothing really to write home about. What I am very pleased with is the level of service here. I never got a chance to get her name but she was very friendly. Her follow up was impeccable and she was constantly quick on the draw when we did have requests. I will definitely be back again. and plan on writing an update when I do order something that is more unique there. Don't dismiss this place because you'd really miss a chance to see how wonderful the service is here. They really take their time here and make you feel like you're someone special to them. Visiting from out of town, and came across this gem! Tanna served us and was very attentive. Our coffee and water glasses were filled quickly and with a smile. Service was top notch! The food was very good! I had the chicken fried steak (beef) and eggs. Everything was hot and very tasty. My daughter had a customized omelet (bacon and peppers) with sour dough bread.
