WOW! We found this place thanks to all you Yelp reviewers. I had Don's Big Mess, which is fantastic, while my wife had the cheddar bacon potato cakes, also delicious. We ended up sharing. I recommend a half order of the Big Mess unless you have a humongous appetite. read more

Went to whites craving chicken fried steak. Got the steak it was crunchy and fork tender. Yum the hash browns were not crispy or hot. The scrambled eggs were spot on. There was only enough gravy to barely get the steak wet. The gravy was good had it been on everything I coulda forgave the cold limp hash browns. read more

I was parked in the veterans spot today, planning to have a nice breakfast, and thought the parking space was a nice touch. We could have parked in the handicapped spot as my wife has a service-related disability. In the middle of our meal, a waitress wearing glasses demanded that we move our truck. We were correctly parked, but because a Toyota pickup parked across from us after we arrived, the space was tight. The waitress said this in a voice loud enough to be heard across the small restaurant. I wonder if she would have treated us so rudely if we had been in the handicapped spot. One of the restaurant patrons stopped at our table and commented on the fact that the restaurant has a veterans parking spot, but they don't want you to use it. It ruined our breakfast, and I told our waitress so. read more

I wish I could remember the waitresses name but she has short dark hair and a smile that lights up the room. She is always so friendly and welcoming. She makes whites more then just grabbing a bite to eat. She really makes it an experience. She's great and so is the food and the rest of the staff. read more

What else could I possibly add to a Whites review that probably has already been said many times over?! If you have to travel any distance to this location, it is worth every minute and every mile. The staff is always as wonderful, friendly and courteous as the food is delicious, too! It can be busy at times, but, that attests to how much it is worth the time. I'd have to say that White's is a nightmare waiting to happen. In addition to it's aloof atmosphere, there seems to be danger around every corner. The last time that I was there was about a year ago. All of the menu items seemed to be balls of grease or gravy... there were very slim options for those who might like to keep their figures nice. In addition, the toilet seat in the women's bathroom was wobbly... like it was coming off of the hinges... I asked the waitress about it and she said that she'd been there for the longest time and had asked Don, the owner about it on numerous occasions. I am wondering if he has even thought to look at it to this day and am kind of wondering how some of the more elderly women might feel about it... It also seemed that the waitresses were way too ignorant. One of them, the heavy-set woman who claimed to be the daughter-in-law of the owner, seemed a little bit snappy towards the girl she was working with... There was, however, only one girl that I really connected with while there. She had the nicest personality, cared about and conversed/joked with ALL of the customers... and she had the most beautiful red hair! I just wonder whatever happened to her... she seemed to be one of the most attentive that I'd ever seen before. Hmmmmmm!!!! I've also read up on a little bit of the history of this restaurant and learned that Don, who is now the owner, went from being a cook at the grills there to being the big boss. I would just like to know how the hell he went about doing that... it takes a lot to take an uneducated cook and make him into a proper owner. I couldn't help but notice all of the spelling and grammar errors that were in the menu as I read through the options. In addition, I must say that it was rather stupid on his part to take on two other locations at virtually the same time with the economy being as bad as it was and still is. In conclusion, I must say that White's is only good for mainstream breakfasts... don't ever expect to get any variety or anything above mediocre out of it. I'm only giving it one star because the service was horrible. Don't go here unless you don't mind waiting at least half an hour to get your order, while three other sets of people that came in after you get their food first. I think if I was at least given an apology I would've given it another star but she said nothing. There are lots of places to get diner food so I suggest going elsewhere. read more

My friend and I wanted to try something new so we looked at the menu for White's Restaurant. It is in the downtown area of Salem, OR. The food was delicious and homestyle. The serving was large, coffee was great. The staff was friendly and helpful with choosing one dish over another to suit our taste. I live in California but when I return to Salem that is where I plan to go for breakfast or lunch. Opened only those times. read more

Food was just okay (a bit overpriced in my opinion). Service was not good (lots of waiting to order, water refills and to pay) Restaurant was dirty especially the bathroom. Makes me wonder what the kitchen is like. We certainly won't be back. read more

Whoaaa. My family recommended this place while on a trip back home and they were not kidding when they said I needed to be hungry. The portions here are GIGANTIC. I can usually put away a pretty large breakfast plate, especially on a hangover day (which I was - thanks, brothers). But White's won this round. I ordered the "Big Mess", which is just that: a perfect mess of eggs, meat, veggies, and yumminess through and through. It also came with toast. I ate way more than I should have because it was so good, and still had enough for a huge meal later on. I literally hauled the Styrofoam box to the airport with me, passed it through security, and carried it on my lap because I wanted to eat that bad boy later. I also tasted my brother's french toast and it was delightful. The server was extremely friendly and it felt like a nice family, familiar atmosphere where you are welcomed with open arms. 1st visit ever today after 40 years in Salem... maybe went decades ago but not certain. I've been desperate to find a good non-chain small breakfast joint on/near S Commercial for me & 2 kids. My search is done! Other than the unsurprisingly full small parking lot on a Friday morning, the instant seating, great service, very decent prices, "feel" of the place, AND THE FOOD definitely earned some new customers. read more

Holy Moly - such crazy huge portions!! I did indeed order the craziest thing on the menu - the Awesome Omelet. It's 6 eggs, with everything you could think of for breakfast, I think. I ate a very small amount of it, but it was delicious. My daughter and husband each ordered the half mess. They loved it. I would definitely go back! read more

Waitresses ignored my boyfriend and I for over 20 minutes!!!! We waited about 5 minutes to get coffee and water. Waitress took order of 3 tables that came in after us. We were both dressed in tye dye so how we weren't noticed I don't know. We got up and left went to Sybils and was sat served and got our check within 35 minutes of leaving this terrible restaurant!!!!!! read more

This is a great place! The food was cooked perfectly. You can order the bacon crispy or 'dead' or 'nearly dead'. Nearly dead was perfectly crunchy without actual charcoal. :) The staff was on it and friendly. The diners were a mix of older people - grandmas having coffee, men debating politics - and some younger people doing crosswords or chatting with their families. Pretty cool place! read more

Whites is currently under new ownership. It was very evident this morning when we stopped in for breakfast. Whites has always been busy but delivered great food. The choice for a great breakfast this morning was between Busik court or Whites. It will never be a choice again. The three meals we ordered were French toast with eggs & bacon, biscuits & gravy also with eggs & bacon, Then the Denver Omelette. The eggs in all three meals were awful. Watery over easy, non cooked whites for medium. The bacon must have been cooked a day prior it was dry like jerky. One positive-toast was good. I believe with new ownership the corners have been cut, leaving the head chef no choice but to cook bagged eggs for scramble. (We asked) also learned that the owner doesn't let them use fresh eggs because they have to wash their hands between cracking each egg...thats alarming...When do they wash their hands then?!? the chef However was extremely apologetic & kind. We received all of our money back. I will not return-Ever. It's been crossed off my list as ever being a option. read more
