Also, from their ONE session solely on how to control your balance, helped with an obstacle I had today at a race. I was able to walk across a beam without falling into the water. Honestly, their training works and I hope to learn more before my next race in August. Even though it doesn't look like much when you go inside, it's more than enough to get you by in the races. If anything, they do have OPEN gym days, where you can just come and goof off, but sign the waiver online before coming on in!

Half of the gym is set up for kids with smaller scale obstacles, the other half is larger scale intended for adults. However, both kids & adults are free to attempt any obstacle in either area. No lines, no "order" - just pick an obstacle & try it. Don't feel self conscious, because nobody cares if you fail & they sometimes cheer if you succeed! I have taken my 8 year old on 3 occasions now, and on the last trip decided to try some myself. Conquered the jumping spider wall, floating logs, bungee run & 8 ft warped wall. Anyone over 35 is not allowed to attempt the 12 or 14 foot warped walls; there have been a couple Achilles injuries. They offer memberships, classes, and drop in rates. Individuals are required to pay an annual $25 insurance fee; on your first visit this is all you have to pay. Bottom line, this place is FUN. And every ninja needs to practice :)

I come here mainly on weekends, when my home Y closes way the heck too early (4pm vs 7pm here)…read more I'd say that about 70-80% of their equipment is fine. Lots of free weights and strength machines. The highlight is the huge, high-ceilinged (30-40ft?) functional fitness space that features a turf area, a sled, kettlebells, plyo boxes, plyo smash balls, a do-it-all calisthenics multi-station that includes weighted pulleys, dip and pullup and monkey bars, a free hanging real boxing bag (nice angled uppercut bag that's just the right weight to make you "dance" to avoid the swing back, yet forgiving enough that you can punch it without gloves without risking a broken wrist or bruised knuckles), a pair of Assault bikes and treadmills, a Concept rower, some meh Schwinn stationary bikes (more on that later), and two full squat cages with plenty of plates and barbells. So, what about the other 20-30%, you ask? Well, their cardio machines range from so-so to unusably lousy. All the treadmills are Precor, which are a clear step down from the Life Fitness TMs most Ys have: smaller uglier fuzzy screens with spotty internet connection that can freeze up in the middle of a workout, noisier and less stable platform. The stationary bikes are a mix of Precor (typical mediocre gym bike with crap ergonomics where you feel like you're on a creaky toy bike pedaling against some barbaric pad not magnetic resistance) and Espresso (video-gaming type bike clearly designed to seduce ADD teenagers or lazy af adults) and the horrible Schwinn bikes (just as bad as most home exercise bikes, you can understand why people mostly use them as clothes hangers). Please please please can you guys get at least a few KEISER bikes? We know you can have decent taste in cardio machines because you kept your CONCEPT rowers instead of choosing some oversized gym-brand rowers which look impressive but have similarly lousy ergonomics. Oh and they have non-mechanical Assault brand treadmills which nobody uses because they are brutal on the knees, too narrow and unstable. I don't know who was in charge of choosing the cardio equipment, but that person needs to be put to work cleaning the bathrooms or something more appropriate! The other major gripe I have is their sauna --- it's spacious and new and pretty, but who in the hell decided to have only ONE row of seating? Completely idiotic, folks: did you not pass seventh grade Life Science, where they teach you that heat RISES, and that's why all real saunas have TWO levels of seating, with the 2nd one being a good 4-5 feet off the ground so that you get the full benefit of the heat in the room? Here you have to STAND on the damned low benches if you want to get a decent sweat in ... the sauna thermometer reads 170F but if you're sitting down you'd be lucky to get 140-150F, which is useless. (The sauna of the Melrose YMCA has the same idiotic mistake.) So, while I'm grateful that this Y offers me decent hours to work out on weekends making the long drive out there worthwhile, their cardio machines selection and sauna design really really need a rethink.

The prices are a little steep but when it comes to gymnastic you kind of already have to assume that you are going to be paying a good amount of money. There is ample seating to sit and watch the children during class (whether they are in the large gym (next to the office) or in the back gym (the smaller gym that you can see from the cafe)). The parking lot is in two sections (the lower lot as you come in off the street and the upper lot) and is large enough for all the vehicles. Class sizes are small to medium. Classes seem to accommodate all age and skill levels. The instructors are all kind and patient with the kids who seem to range 1.5 to 18 years.

They are fantastic and caring, and it is a testament to the staff when the last day a child has camp, they hug the counselors and some of the kids get teary-eyed because they loved camp so much. It's actually a nice pool. 10 lanes. They devote a couple lanes for lap swim. The deep end is 10' so they have a great diving board. And the bubble comes down for the summer making it a glorious outdoor pool. Bubble up, IMO, isn't worth the membership. Afternoons and evenings are rented out to swim teams. Typically all 10 lanes. They may have 1 lane open for free swim. But the diving boards aren't available. And it's not much fun being limited to 1 lane, especially with the hordes of swim teamers and their gawking parents. She has worked her way up from a being a non-swimmer to a strong swimmer knowing several stroke styles. For example, when she was 4 she was swimming the length of a pool while her older cousins were still using a life vest and a little timid. My siblings remarked on her ability. I have Little Flippers to thank. I appreciate how a few classes during a session they teach survival skills with the kids coming fully clothed and doing safety drills and skills. Heaven forbid something should happen, I feel confident that my daughter has enough knowledge on what to do. I truly appreciate and highly recommend Little Flippers to anyone interested.

I do 30 minute sessions 2x/week with Jarrod. 2. Healthy amount of defined space to take a mat, grab an exercise band or just do anything that doesn't require a machine or bench. 3. I occasionally grab a shake or caffeinated tea. They're all good and always available during normal hours (my gripe on other gyms). Realized I never wrote a review, so there it is (finally). Been at the personal training for about 2.5 years and really can't say that about anything else I've tried.
