Across the road is a river basin with a family of bald eagles nesting in the trees clearly visible from the house. At night you could hear the baby eagles chittering back and forth with the parents. Opening the windows in the master bedroom gave you the soothing sounds of the tidal river as it flowed past the house. Paul has a friend who is a lobsterman, and he obtained and steamed for us three monstrous lobsters. So good! Very conveniently located on the main road, 5 minutes drive to Machias and 25 minutes to Lubec and the Canadian border. We will absolutely stay here again!

The owners are so nice and accommodating. I felt like extended family, and I mean that in the best way possible. They have a super cute little dog and two nice cats. Of which never bothered us, in fact I think I bothered them by trying to pet them :) They included breakfast which was AMAZING. The chef is also the owner and he is so nice, each morning they chatted with us bout the local area and in general were just very nice. I couldn't ask for a better way to start my day. My only real complaint was that my bed was small, but that is due to having shared a room with a co-worker, we had the two bedroom. I am sure the one bedrooms have bigger beds. Overall I would say this is a place you should stay if you are in the area. Go, relax, have some wine and chat. Most of all, forget your problems and worries, even for just a moment while enjoying coffee and looking out onto the river.

Cool summer night breezes blew through opened windows of the front room. A tiny but perfectly appointed bathroom served us well. Greg prepared 2 outstanding breakfasts of fresh fruit, French toast, scrambled eggs, biscuits...the works. Very satisfying start to each day! (Sadly, no pictures) Following lively conversation and Greg's recommendations, we visited the local wine bar, St Andrew's and took an awesome hike at Cutler Cove in the Western Preserve. We spent a week in Bar Harbor before coming up, and after the crowds and chaos there, this quiet inn was a PERFECT place to decompress and relax. The room is really spacious-- a king-sized bed, table and chairs, and plenty of floor space. Jacuzzi tub and a large bathroom. It looks right out over the river, so you can watch the tide go in and out; we even saw a pair of bald eagles. You can walk down to the river and to the Downeast Sunrise trail, which we biked on. It's extremely quiet, aside from road noise. The hosts are very responsive and were flexible with my schedule. If I am ever back in Machias I will definitely stay here again. Be forewarned that if you want breakfast, your choices are Dunkin Donuts or drive a long way to a different town. Everything in Machias opens at 11:00.

The rooms are quiet, spacious and uniquely decorated in a nautical theme. There are two doors, front and back, leading to porches downstairs or balconies on the second floor. One can sit outside sipping the amazing coffee that is provided and watch hummingbirds flitting around feeders and hanging baskets and listen to windchimes. Rooms are extremely clean and towels are soft and plentiful. Restaurants are scarce on this island but there is a fridge and microwave provided so one could easily keep small supplies of food on hand. The owners, Jim and Fran are extremely friendly and helpful and it is like visiting someone in his/her own home. I highly recommend this motel if you are visiting Campobello Island for any reason.

The people who made up the rooms were friendly and helpful, and the owners, Fran and Jim, went out of their way to make our stay perfect. They are both avid readers, and the rooms, as well as the front desk, have a library of book choices, as well as a big binder of maps, restaurant menus, and even a history of early Campobello! A great find, and a wonderful stay!
