I have been meaning to get on here and say a couple of things but get sidetracked for one reason or another....I just want to say that I have had more car troubles in the last couple of years than ever I think and these guys are the ones who have had to come out and tow my car every time. They have ALWAYS been reliable and quick and I have never had a negative experience. They communicated with me the entire time and have been understanding and super nice. It's stressful as it is to have to have your vehicle towed and I have dealt with 1 or 2 other companies and almost felt like it was an inconvenience one time. The short (TLDR) version of my review is to say Whitings Auto Repair went well above the call of duty to render assistance to me (and accompanying family) when we found ourselves in a difficult situation. We were treated kindly and fairly by Kurt, Maddie and Peter over a period of several days during which my disabled vehicle required relocation by tow. I highly recommend Whitings for their professionalism, courtesy and communicativeness. A longer narrative follows: My teenage son and I were on the first full day of our vacation in remote Acton, ME, when my Audi A6 degraded en route to a Sunday morning trip to Portland from warning indicators about electrical malfunctions to a fully poweless and inoperable vehicle I was compelled to steer off of the main road in a less-than-ideal location. This happened on a particularly cold day, and in the midst of a long weekend. With options extremely limited -- no ride sharing, no open rental agencies, and no local connections on whom to depend -- my only choice was to seek assistance via AAA. I was relieved when they assigned Whitings, based simply on online reviews. Kurt arrived from 20 or so miles away, not realizing this was a roadside assistance call due to miscommunication with AAA, and had not brought a flatbed (optimal for AWD). He helped jump start the car so we could move off the road, and after evaluating our situation, elected to give us a lift into town and tow via dolly system, to ensure we weren't left stranded. Moreover, he drove us outside the direct route to enable me to pick up a U-Haul, which turned out to be the only available rental vehicle in a 50 miles radius. Kurt was kind enough to wait around to verify we could access an alternate vehicle, in spite of operating short-handed on a long-weekend Sunday. After examining the vehicle Monday, Kurt and crew determined that they could not effect repairs because of parts (understandable, given the alternator required replacing, and I've learned the hard way that Audi parts are generally in high demand, low supply, and, accordingly, not inexpensive). Maddie called to explain the situation, and offered assistance to coordinate a second towing with AAA in an effort to minimize cost to me. I contacted a dealership (the closest being an hour away), and made arrangements to have the vehicle serviced and to obtain a loaner. Peter from Whitings was the assigned driver, and he was kind enough to offer me a lift with him to the dealership so that I could pick up the loaner. He worked diligently in brutal code to secure my car and exhibited more courtesy than necessary during our early-morning trip to Stratham, NH. After securing the loaner, and as the only eligible driver, I was left with the challenge of returning the U-Haul 10+ miles away from the shop at which it was parked. With towing fees settled and no stake in the outcome of my vehicle, Maddie demonstrated extreme generosity in offering to pick me up from the U-Haul drop-off and drive me back to their shop to recover my loaner. She did this in the middle of a busy day with both family and professional commitments, even though my status as "customer" was (pun intended) in the rear view mirror. And having brought my son with me on the vehicle exchange, Maddie was gracious enough to accommodate the unexpected additional passenger, and was a lovely companion for the ride. I may not be qualified to comment on the quality of their repair services proper, but I can certainly vouch for the reliability of their 24/7 towing service, and with even greater confidence, the compassion and goodwill everyone we encountered at Whitings demonstrated in spades. I am certainly grateful for their willingness to help, even when it was not directly related to profit, and I can definitely say that while I would have preferred to not contend with vehicle repairs, I did in fact enjoy the experience of meeting Kurt and his team (and family). They have earned both my loyalty and appreciation. read more

I called Whiting's because I was having some issues with my tires shaking on the way up to the lake. The lady on the phone was very nice and told us to stop by just to be safe and get a diagnosis on the problem. Kurt and Nick figured out the issue very quickly and helped us get back on the road in no time. Absolutely the worst treatment I have ever experienced. These people literally left me in tears. I had Whiting's tow my car to their shop 16 days ago for an ignition cylinder issue. I was told several times when actually getting a hold of anyone, that the wrong part came in 3 times. I still remained patient. I myself, located the part at Napa in Ossipee, and though I had been without transportation I offered to get a ride to bring them the part. This I had said through message. I never received a response. I stopped by on Wednesday to check if my car has even been touched. The ignition was just as I left it. Never was I told that they were too busy to take on my car. They took it and locked it in the impound lot where no other repair customer's cars are parked. There is zero reason my car should be where I cannot access it. I called and said I was going to have it towed out by AAA this afternoon. I spoke to Matt. When I arrived there were signs of life so I looked in the shop. No one was around. The gate to the locked lot (where my car shouldn't have been) was opened. I assumed the gate was left open so I could get the tow. I was on the phone trying to arrange for AAA, Matt came down and told me I needed to leave. He said we are closed. I said I just need to get my car. He said he needed to lock the gate. This is a tow company I am dealing with. I said, "Well do you guys want the job or should I get another company?" Matt informed me that Whiting's couldn't do it. The 24 HR tow company couldn't tow it. I said, "That's fine, If you have to lock the gate can you just tow it up the drive so the other company could access it? He said, "no". I said, "Then will you open the gate when they get here?" He said, "Well I'm leaving". That's when I started to cry. I said, " Please don't do this to me. " I had to borrow a car to get here". So, I guess Kurt answers the phone when other tow companies call, just not for customers. Crowell's came and towed me to my next destination. The driver thought and noted it was strange that Whiting's wouldn't tow it off their own lot. I was briefly a very loyal customer. Through several "forgotten" appointments, attitude when I called after hours in the evening for a tow, so I could handle the situation and make it on time to work the next day (which I did not,as Whiting's wouldn't come to the next morning), to staff calling my car "a piece of shit". Any perceived kindness I received was smoke and mirrors, as I was ultimately treated like garbage. I have shown nothing but patience and understanding until today. I got a flat tire late at night on super bowl Sunday ... hit a pot hole ... called many tow & service companies, could not get any help. I finally called Whitings & Kurt Whiting answered & was pleasant, helpful & told me he would be right out within 20 mins, was jumping in truck now ! My car broke down late on a Friday afternoon in Wakefield NH on Route 16, called Triple AAA for a tow. While waiting a girl named Marsha stopped to help us and she saved the day. Marsha told us to have the car towed to Whiting's Auto in Ossippee, NH, (3 Heron Place), where we met the owner Kurt and his crew. As I said this was on a Friday afternoon. Left the car at Whiting's for the weekend on our way back home to Massachusetts from Maine on Sunday car was ready @noon time and at a reasonable cost. I can't thank everyone enough for their help and honesty in this situation. We were in trouble and thanks to everyone we were able to continue our journey and get ourselves along with our car home safely.
