We loved our food at Stoneys on P Street! We went their twice on our 4 day stay and both times where great! We got the wings both times and they where great. We also got the French Onion soup the 1st day and the 2nd we got mozzarella sticks which were good as well. The atmosphere was really cool and very local. We were in town from up from Richmond for a convention up the street. Stopped in for a few beer with my wife. We were seated quickly and the cold draft beers came at a reasonable pace for a Friday at around 7-9 pm with the place full of locals. The food, I give it a thumbs up, the service is good but you will need to tell the bartender where your sitting at, its self seating when you come in. I was at Phillips for the Bonnard exhibit on the third floor. Very well put together if you like impressionists. I was craving some wings and remembered Stoney's came up on a list for "best wings in DC". It was a nice day and I decided to go. Maybe a 5 block walk, nice weather. I roll in a few minutes after 11AM Saturday last. The kitchen was still catching up so I ordered a Stoney's lager and had a seat at the bar. It's a small place, going back a bit from the street. Definitely a neighborhood hangout. Soccer is on (fun to watch but i don't know anything about soccer). After another beer I order some wings hot. I was hungry and thirsty was being worked on. The wings show up after someone scored a goal on the big TV. They're hot and fresh. Just what I was in the mood for. The wings have cooled off enough to eat. Very tasty. Definitely filling if you're looking for some quality chicken. I grab another brew and I'm out. Nice place for a meal or drink with friends. Good place to grab a meal and drink in DC. I went to DC for a girl's trip in July 2022 with one of my best friends. Our Air BnB was about a block and half from Stoney's which was extremely convenient. We arrive on a Thursday afternoon to DC. After traveling all day from North Carolina and getting to our Air BnB we were tired and just wanted to have a chill night exploring the area a bit. We decided to just walk around and stumbled on Stoney's and decided to check it out and I'm glad we found it on our first night. When we arrived we sat ourselves. The restaurant looks smaller from the outside than it is. It's not wide, but it is long. There's a big section in the back then the kitchen is also in the back. We sat in the bar area, but not at the bar. We ordered a few things to share. We ordered a pizza and onion rings and wings. They were all good and the prices were great. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to return Saturday for a take-out order to take back to our Air BnB. This time I ordered a bowl of chili and my friend ordered a burger. Both were delicious! It definitely has a local feel, which I loved. DC is a tourist hot spot, but I always appreciate finding local hidden gems. read more

Another great meal at Stoney's. It was a slow day. However, still really good service and experience. It was also a fun local crowd at the bar with Reese. She was amazing, very attentive, and kept my drink filled without asking. I love this place for the tater tots. I came in for a burger but remembered they had grill cheese. Walked in no host no one to tell us where to go, looked to the left didn't see a bartender . We just walked to the back and sat ourselves . A waiter greeted us and provided menus and started us out with water , he gave recommendations, we decided on onion rings, and shared a cup of chili for starters and me and my guest had decided on the crab cake. The sandwich was well prepared and the presentation was nice but the crab cake itself although moist in texture was devoid of ALL flavor. I have a love/hate relationship with this place. It is a true sports bar where they play the audio from whatever game is on (which I love), but there is a lot that is lacking. The food is below average even for bar food. It seems to be more of a college football and basketball bar. I went in once to watch a Commanders game and it was dead. I also got weird looks for being in there with a football jersey on (weird). I cant really go here in the summer because their AC is almost never working. After a late night of drinking, sometimes you only crave one thing...pizza! My friends and I were in the neighborhood and needed some food to absorb the alcohol. The dining area was closed but the bar was still open, we didn't want to sit on bar stools but the server gave us a hard time when we wanted to sit on adult chairs with backs on them. However, after we got over that hump, our server was always there when we needed him, was super helpful, and definitely entertained us with his fun personality. Now, onto the pizza. Gooey cheese, thin crust, and tons of toppings to choose from. I thought it was quite good and next time I am in DC I will come back. Came here for St. Patty's day celebration and most importantly for corned beef and beer. Walked in and was seated immediately. The front of the bar was packed, but thankfully there was seating at the rear of the restaurant. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich with fries. Now, let me tell you how much I love buffalo sauce. What's amazing is that I didn't request for the chicken to be saucy, but it as SAUCYYYY!!! The chicken normally is grilled, but I asked if I could have it fried. The meal also comes with french fries. The fries were overcooked but edible. Our waitress wasn't very attentive and very forgetful. The only thing I've had at Stoney's is the best grilled cheese sandwich ever, repeatedly. Or so I thought. I was looking through the yelp pictures before writing this review and found a picture I took of the grilled cheese which I labelled as "epic" and then a picture of a large hot fudge sundae that apparently I took. I don't remember this particular sundae, nor could I tell you what it tasted like because I probably ate in some sort of drunk hunger fueled binge and I probably ate a monster grilled cheese sandwich before that, and washed it all down with beer. This explains why I can't calorie count or keep a food diary. Despite the memory lapses, I can testify to the fact that the grilled cheeses here are the star of the menu. In fact it's their specialty. The simplest grilled cheese on the menu for $7.95, is basically about four plus slices of gooey melted american cheese in between thick slices of buttered texas toast, with a side of crispy fries.You could go fancy and get the Super Grilled Cheese with with tomato, bacon, onions and fries or the Grilled Ham and Cheese (big enough for two people easy), I've had them both but always go back to the basic grilled cheese that is more than enough for a monstrous appetite. Another thing about memory lapses, it's more than likely your trip to Stoney's will not be accomplished sober. Sure they have a happy hour that offers half priced grilled cheeses, but who wants to be in this brightly lit homey bar at that respectable hour? The right time to visit Stoney's is in fact at the end of a long night given that they are open till 3 am on weekend nights. It is one of the only places that serves food late night (after midnight) on the weekends in this neighborhood. It's actually a nice place to end a wild night, they have food to fill a hungry belly and friendly service. What more could you ask for? read more

Friday Happy Hour (5-7pm) at Stoney's is pretty great... $3 draft beers, $3 rail cocktails, half off appetizers & $5 for grilled cheese and fries! There was also a March Madness special of $3 for other beers. Check Stoney's out online as they run different Happy Hour deals daily. The space left a little to be desired since it is on the smaller end but it fit our group fine in the end. Special shoutout to the manager & server George who helped our group out when we had an unwanted guest!!! I was visiting DC for a few days and was staying at the Hotel Helix for a few days, so we went to Stoney's because it was close and convenient. Food: 1) Spinach Dip - Pretty good! How can you not love Stoneys!? It's essentially one of the last real bars in DC! Everyone who works there is extremely nice and pleasant. It's a great place to watch any and every game as they have a ton of TVs and every channel. My one suggestion, if you're looking to watch a specific game at a time that might be popular - get there early! There are certain teams that tend to take over large amounts of space. While I haven't done it, more than once I've seen specific areas reserved for surprise parties and fundraisers. Which is awesome. Finally, I love the trivia here! I've been to a couple other in the DC area, but there's something about this one that draws me back. It has a great environment with interesting questions that cover everyones specialties. I have lived a block from Stoney's for the last three years. I have until now had nothing but wonderful experiences there, and have recommended the delicious onion rings and wonderful service to many friends. In spite of all of that, I sadly can't ever return based on the bartender's atrocious behavior today. I couldn't sleep this evening, so walked in dead sober at 1:30 am. I ordered a drink, paid, and tipped by 1:55. However at 2:01 am (one minute past closing) the bartender suddenly started threatening me that he was about to physically seize my drink so that he could go home. Since it was still less than a minute past closing, I tried to ignore him while I finished the last two sips, but he then threatened to call the cops on me and started to act like I was being belligerent. At 2:01 am. I am a 30 year old government employee with a TS clearance. Not really a rabble rouser. While I wasn't sure calling the police due to my not drinking fast enough was the best use of taxpayer dollars, I was interested to see how this played out, so encouraged him to do as he saw fit. He then actually did call them, gave a description of my physical appearance, and told them I "wasn't acting right" and "wouldn't leave." In reality, he hadn't actually even asked me to leave, nor had we had any conversation about that - the dispute was about him seizing the drink I had paid for. At this point, it's still 2:04 am. 4 mins past closing. Btw, when I asked him his name he said "Sam" but when he allegedly called the police he said his name was Howard. Whoever he was talking to, he acted like he was dealing with someone totally out of control and out of it. Then, getting to what I am actually most upset about, another staff member at the bar took it upon themselves to then grab my bag, my personal property, without my consent, and place it outside the bar on the ground in an attempt to get me out the door. I swear to god, it was still just 2:05 am at the latest. Five minutes past closing. I am shocked at the dramatic, offensive and rude behavior that I just received and will never go back. The staff clearly think they can treat their customers like dirt, and I hope that works out for them. Thank god for them that their onion rings are so good. read more

Perfect blend of salt from the cheese and bite from the arugula, and the texture of the bread was grainy and perfectly toasted. The tator tots were perfectly crunchy as well. When it's 70 degrees in February, a snow storm is coming the next day, and you have had a long day at work, you walk two miles with a friend after work to get a comfort food happy hour. Stoney's delivered comfort food at great prices and decent drinks. We split a Large Pepperoni Pizza (HH $10.29) and Grilled Cheese with Fries (HH $5). The food was cheap and good. The pizza is loaded with delicious and strong cheeses and giant pepperonis. It's delicious the next morning too as the garlic and spices keep soaking in. The Grilled Cheese is just like mom used to make with lots of America cheese, texas toast, and butter. If you want cheap comfort food at happy hour, look no further. My Whiskey Sour (HH $4) was fine for a rail drink, but next time I will follow my friend and get a glass of house white (HH $4). To avoid the crowds, we enjoyed happy hour at the 2nd floor bar, which only had one other party. There is an area you can reserve for large groups, which was booked. This bar has loud people, but it wasn't unbearable at happy hour. All in all, this is a great place to enjoy happy hour.
