This place could be very deceiving from the outside. Inside it's a gem! Love the vibe. They offer many flavors. The owner I spoke with was so friendly and nice. This old building (apparently build in the 1800s) is charming & quite New England adding to its nostalgic charm- not a bad thing when it comes to an old fashioned ice cream parlor. The proprietor & his family own & run this spot. They are Turkish & also own the local Captain's Pizza chain. I happen to love all things coconut. So I really liked their Mounds ice cream. They were out of a few key flavors when I went so I can not attest to other flavors. But it is creamy (they should not keep it sooo cold as its a bit too hard), sweet but the cream shines through the additional ingredients, nice ratio of ice cream to add ins. The hot fudge was dark, thick & not too sweet- nice balance. They offer all the traditional ice cream flavor options & some imaginative ones too. Large private parking. Inside/out door seating. Shout out to the really nice server we had today, Daniel, ... we got to try several of their tasty flavors. Apparently the person who taught Wentworth in Hamden makes ice cream in avon for this place. All flavors are tasty, but they copped out (offered a purchased brand, not their own) on a few flavors like classic vanilla and chocolate. Done right, a really good classic flavor (like vanilla and chocolate) can taste awesome, ... wish they tried instead of having a purchased brand. This place sucks.... I mean HOW HARD IS IT TO SERVE ICE CREAM!!!??? They rarely have all the flavors in stock so everything you try to order is all out. They put everything in shitty styrofoam cups. When you do finally order a flavor they have in stock, they give you small portion and crappy topping quality and portions. The staff isn't much better, the manage is about 21 years old and the high school servers aren't that friendly either. A successful ice cream shop can't be that hard, I can't even believe it's so bad I have to write a review. The old owners and old photos do this Yelp page NO justice. The new owners are so kind and they added so many new options. They were very understanding and patient with my disability, even though I ended up making a little mess. There are so many options for toppings (and I got a MOUNTAIN of cookie dough bits as mine) and so many interesting icecream flavors. They also have yogurt, dairy free, and sugar free options which was super neat. They make their own whipped cream and waffle cones, both were so good. It's family owned and run and the building is gorgeous and so clean. Amazing overall and super generous portions for cheap! why can't there be an option for zeros stars. they done accept cash. place was empty that should have said something. the girl was so bothered that she had to take care of customers. the whipped cream was BAD. like spoiled. we didn't even want to "bother" the already annoyed girl so we scooped it off. i've cream was a seriously nothing to waste money on. go to a different place or get ice cream from the store and have it home. Be careful if you have an allergy! Didn't clean milkshake machine in between uses. Well, when we first arrived tonight we were the only two people in line. My friend ordered her two items and then she came to me. I ordered a mint chocolate chip milkshake and a chocolate peanut butter banana milkshake. She scoops the first one and then came and asked what the second one was again, and then tried to sell me a Reese's cup milkshake with banana and I said no. So she makes both the milkshakes and when I check them the first one was just a chocolate milkshake and not a mint chocolate chip. She makes me a new one. I get home and she used the same blender as the peanut butter one to make my mint chocolate chip one! So now I have peanut butter in my mint milkshake. Extremely disappointed in my first trip to this place. She is VERY LUCKY I did not have a peanut allergy and just had a shitty milkshake. read more

Most disappointing experience for ice cream that I could have imagined. We don't go out for ice cream often but thought we would give them a try on our way home from dinner. Ordered a sundae which came with 4 toppings. Strawberries... ran out, whipped cream... ran out, peanut butter... out!!! What's the point? Strawberries and whipped cream may be the most popular so you should probably have an abundance. Nothing beats freshly made waffle cone with ice cream that's as equally as good! Ice cream is smooth and creamy, not sure if it's made there but their signature flavor is Irish cream. It gets pricey with additional toppings but if you keep it simple, then 1-2 scoops of just the ice cream is all one needs to satisfy a sweet tooth. However if you want to splurge then get the waffle cone! Whitmore's also makes floats, shakes and has soft serve as well. Plenty of toppings and flavors to choose from. Whitmore's is off route 115; with outdoor seating. Inside is full of Great Depression memorabilia and worthy of checking out, beautiful woodwork with exposed beams. I've been a Seymoron since 1999, and I've been to Whittemore's a few times. It's in a nifty historical building, which is nice, and the service is pretty good as well. I will say though, that I'm picky about ice cream and this will influence my review quite a bit. I hate most hard ice cream. You know how most kids are about eating liver, broccoli, and lima beans? That's how I am about hard ice cream, mainly because I've been spoiled by Talenti gelato and Rita's frozen custard, not to mention all the places that offer 24 flavors of soft serve. My family still insists on going here every now and then, so I oblige. I will say that if nothing else, their flavor and topping assortment is decent. I heartily agree with the others saying that Rich Farms in Oxford is a better bet because I can at least remember the taste of the ice cream from there. read more

Cute place with plenty of seating and a huge parking lot. They were opened late which was nice because our other option was the grocery store. I got the mint chip which was creamy, minty and not green. I topped it with chocolate syrup and it hit the spot. The only issue I had was the large amount of freezer burn on the inside of the cases- definitely in need of a defrost. read more

Whittemore's has been in Seymour for a few years now. It faces some pretty stiff competition from competitors in Oxford, but it holds its own pretty well. The ice cream is quite fresh and tasty, and they offer a pretty wide variety of flavors. Yet, Whittemore's ice cream just isn't as decadent as others. I can't put my finger on what's missing, but something is. On the plus side, they do stay open fairly late (10pm) for when you need a late-night fix. On the negative side, they're a cash-only establishment which can be a bit inconvenient. All in all, they're good when you need to satisfy a craving, but you're better off going a town over for the really good stuff. read more

This is my favorite ice cream shop. Their chocolate fudge brownie ice cream is my favorite. They have a large variety of ice cream and sugar-free versions, as well as frozen yogurt. There is a good variety of toppings. Lots of parking space. Indoor and outdoor seating. The only things I don't like about this place is the floorboards are creaky and easy to trip over, and they don't accept credit or debit cards, which is inconvenient. read more
