Whittier Brokers assisted us with a short term rental (about 6 months) in Uptown Whittier during the pandemic. They were extremely professional and easy to work with. The apartment was very well maintained and they were always quick to help when we had a problem. The on-line maintenance and rent-paying portal was convenient. I really appreciated the fact that they rented the unit month-to-month and we weren't required to sign a lease. My only criticism is that the landscaping was pretty non-existent and the gardeners just blew dirt around. read more

I don't even know where to start. Whittier Brokers were a blessing to my family and I during the time we rented from them. To start, their properties are above exceptional from the price point to the quality/aesthetic. As property managers they are beyond on top-of-it, you put a ticket in on the renter's portal and most of the time within the hour they are contacting you to set up maintenance. Next day or 2 they send someone out to resolve your issue. Rent is so easy to pay, we basically "set it and forget it" online through the renter's portal; what I mean is that we set up auto-pay (which was easy) and never had to hassle with checks/cash or anything like that. We were never overcharged for anything, NOT once in over 3 years renting with them. I saved the best for last. Besides all of the great things I mentioned above, what truly sets them apart from everyone else in this field is their personal touch and how they make you feel like family. They were so wonderful to my family and I, words truly do not begin to describe how grateful I am for all that they have done for us. They some how managed to be very professional while making us feel like a member of their family; we are forever grateful (I can't say that enough) To anyone reading this review, I encourage you to trust Whittier Brokers with your next rental, home purchase or sale. Bad Company , Dina G discrimination at its finest , Dina G is unprofessional and discriminating against me for being on a program that assists me in paying monthly rent . I meet all requirements with a 750 credit score , yet she is still avoiding to show me unit and denying my applications I've been applying since end of August . Rental is still posted on Whittierbrokers.com stating it is in fact available and receiving applications. However Whittier Brokers denies potential future tenants if they are receiving any type of Assistance programs even if they do qualify for the Unit. Whittier Brokers discriminates , Steer away from Whittier Brokers if possible look for other real estate companies to work with. read more

If you are interested in a rental from this company, do not bother. They are stacking application fees, this way they can collect as much money as they can prior to really considering you as a decent, reliable and responsible tenant. I wish I would have read the reviews prior to spending money and time as well as resources in applying for an apartment here. They didn't have the decency to call and inform me that they are going with another applicant, while you are on an apartment search it's common courtesy to extend a thank you for your interest call but apparently that integrity is non existent. Please be warned im sure there are many other professionally handled property management places in the city of Whittier. Please don't bother to try and come up with some rude response to my post, people have the right to be informed when there is a clear mishandling of people's time and application fees. Word to the wise: have a little more respect for the people interested in your properties and the idea of stacking applications probably does not sit well with the property owners that you work with. This company is racist and prejudice. I went to apply to rent the property located 7617 Comstock Ave. # C Whittier, CA 90602. obviously, I OVER qualified with all the requirements that they asked for, I have a salary three times what the rent costs, with excellent credit and an emotional dog, which is my family. When visiting the property I only asked for (3) changes in the condominium: (1) To paint it because the walls were dirty, (2) Change the carpet and (3) clean the closets because they were disgusting, apparently they did not like my request, counting on it that I have an Emotional Pet and for being Latina, they discriminated against my application when I know that I over qualify to obtain the leasing of the property. Supposedly, I brought them all the information they asked for about my pet. At first, I was planning to move in with someone else, but the person left for another state. So, I was the only one moving in the condominium. Ms. Carolyn, who was taking the applications, asked me questions that had nothing to do with the application process: (1) Why was the other person no longer moving with me? and I told her that she moved out of state, (2) consequently, she question my paystubs because they did not match, supposedly with the company I worked with, the company I have been working for 8 years, so to her investigations it shows I didn't worked for my current employer. I told her that I also have a PT on the weekends, but I don't do much money. Obviously or perhaps I told her that my day job and FT employer protects the identity of its workers, and possibly that's why she couldn't allocate the company as it didn't show up in my screening. But, if she wanted I could requests a letter from HR. I would gladly ask for it, but Mrs. Carolyn said it wasn't necessary. In addition to all of these, (3) she asked for a photo of my dog (4) a copy of a utility bill stating my name and current address (5) email of the landlord manager where I am currently living, because it was missing from the application. I sent everything she asked for. Mrs. Carolyn. She didn't even provide me with a business card after I gave her everything she asked for, nor after leaving the office did I HAD TO ask her for a business card to follow up with her. Days went by and she didn't even bother to call me until I called, only to find out that WHITTER BROKERS gave the condominium to someone else who has better tenant qualifications. From the moment I entered the Whittier Brokers' office they discriminated against me. Supposedly they don't discriminate based on race, gender and Nationality but they DO....I DON'T recommend WHITTIER BROKERS SPECIALLY IF YOU ARE LATINO. From the start, they did not take care of any requests we had asked or went above and beyond to welcome us in. Unfair Practices, After applying at other agencies for rentals, we had been accepted for but decided to wait for something that would suit our family for a longer term than just a year, we finally found the perfect home. It was only on the market a day or so and we called Whittier Brokers and asked if we could drop off some paperwork. We dropped a complete and comprehensive Equifax Tenant Screening from a previous application which included the very same items they would process with our applications. Credit History, Tenant History and Criminal Background. We talked with a woman at the office that Saturday morning and was told that it would be reviewed and could be used to pre-screen and pre-qualify us for the home. After completing new applications at each new agency, my credit FICO had dropped from 820 to 780. I asked that they NOT re-run my credit as I had supplied Credible and LEGAL Credit History to them. We were handed application forms to fill out and return, I sent the entire package, along with NEW application forms via email that evening. The return email instructed us to fill out applications online for each adult and pay the $ 35.00 application fee for each adult. We called and asked if the paperwork I had already provided had been reviewed at all and were told again to process applications online. Our package was NEVER even opened, one person said that they never received the package, We even said that if they actually absolutely needed to process the applications We would drop off the (*CASH) . We eventually did drop off the cash, but were told we were now LAST in line for the home. We were told that we would receive call backs, these never happened until the house had already been given to someone else. I have been a property manager since 2006, I manage a theater and residential, retail mixed use 25 unit complex in the downtown LA area. I have never treated an applicant with such disrespect. , If they had questions, I answered, if they had credible documentation, I did not force them to pay re-application fees. I believe that this Brokerage puts homes out on the market early so as to run up a long list of applicants to collect as many application fees possible. They do not care about the HARD HIT on someone's credit. In fact they told me to my face that it was a soft hit on my FICO score. That is Not the truth. Be very careful with these people. They may have the right to do things this way, but they obviously could care less about you. read more

We rented a home from Whittier Brokers for about 4 years. Everyone we dealt with was professional, kind & punctual. Tina responded to emails quickly and clearly. Maintenance was completed in a timely manner & they were always aware of our small dog, Beatrice, while they were completing work. There was often a note left that they spent time playing with her. So I don't know what all the other folks experience is with Whittier Brokers but mine is phenomenal. I've been with them for over 6 years and have had no major issues. Sometimes they take a bit longer to fix things, but when it comes to emergencies they are all over it. Water heater leaking - replaced within 24hrs Dead possum under house - cleared and sanitized out within hours Evening Electrical outage - responded that same evening Time and time again they have come through. There are State guidelines that mandate they have to fix certain items(i.e. things that make home inhabitable(i.e. flooding, heating) People should know that when you rent the property, mgmt must get approval from the owners for major repairs. Sometimes owner approves it, sometimes they don't. Whittier Brokers shouldn't be blamed for that. So to all those renters looking for a good and responsible management company - Whittier Brokers is one you should highly consider. read more

Some of the worst experiences I have ever dealt with was with Whittier Brokers. If the home was in need of any sort of work, Whittier Brokers had to "run it by the owners" and the conversation would either die out or the work order request would just be denied weeks/months later and only after multiple calls we had to make into their office. They would come in once a year to inspect the house and every year they would say that the home needed this and that but they never actually came back to perform the work. We lost track of the date twice throughout the 8 years with lived at the home and they would place a note on the front door as soon as they got the chance to, a simple phone call would have been just fine. In the end, if we needed something done, they would not help us out but if they needed to be paid... BOOM... a notice on the door a minute later. After so many years, we finally had enough to purchase our own home and no longer had to deal with such a poor business. read more

I recently checked out one of their homes for rent- process was super easy and the ladies working the front desk were friendly and helpful. We put a deposit down for a home, but changed our minds 24 hours later. After changing our decision, they graciously gave us back our deposit in full and didn't even charge us the prorate for the day we kept the home off the market. Very kind of them. They are the shadiest business out there! At first, they were great and I loved them! They always took care of maintenance issues asap. But when it's time to move out, they will attempt to illegally deduct anything they can from your security deposit. I rented one little house from them and when I moved out and into a larger house from them, they pretty kept most of my deposit for cleaning, carpet shampooing and a paint job. I didn't take pictures, but I stayed cleaning, shampooing and scrubbing that place. So, I move into their other rental and 6 months later, they kick me out for new reason at all. Don't rent from this brokerage if you can avoid it, cause you won't get all of your deposit back. I had my inspection completed two weeks prior to my move out date..and was told by the inspector that he was amazed at how clean the place was and in what great shape I left it. (Not that the place was pristine anyway..it was built in the 1920's and there were a lot of issues in the first place, such as broken window latches, scratched doors, etc). So now that I've left they are trying to charge me for carpet cleaning (to which I specifically asked the inspector if I needed to clean it...I even gave them a move out date a day later so I could go back if needed...and charge me another $117 for touch up paint for tiny holes in the living room from picture hanging nails that don't damage walls. Again, I asked the inspector if this would be a problem and if I needed to patch things us). His response was not to worry...the carpet would probably be replaced and the holes were tiny. First off, I had to call them to find out where my deposit was...turns out, it was sent to the property that I had moved out from. I spoke with Tina who only apologized but didn't say she would check with the gentleman who did my inspection to see what had been discussed. I guess I'm just out of luck. Apparently, they don't check records at al...obviously since I had left a forwarding address and they sent my check to a place I had moved out from. Brilliance. Well, lucky for me I have pictures of the horribly patched and dirty wall that was in the bedroom when I moved in...oh but that wasn't the issue....I may only be out $217 but small claims court here I come! If you must rent from them...document, document, document. You may even want to record conversations with the inspector. BTW, they are required to notify tenants after the inspection of repairs needed. They did not. I would have purchased a small can of touch up paint for probably under $20....not $117. My wife and I lived in two-bedroom apartment on Greenleaf in Uptown for two years. During that time, we dealt directly with Whittier Brokers for our monthly payments and maintenance needs. We found them extremely professional to work with. They were especially good at answering service requests in a timely manner. They have a dedicated maintenance staff of about five in addition to the workers they hire on a contract basis. The office staff is composed of no-nonsense professionals who fulfill their contractual obligations without fuss. The ancient apartment we lived in--between the Harvey Apartments and Guerra Gutierrez Mortuary--had its share of issues, but we had absolutely no complaints with the Brokers. When we finally moved out, they returned our safety deposit in full, minus a small, reasonable charge for cleaning the fridge we left. That made us extremely happy! read more

My relative, a recent widow and a disabled veteran, wanted to move to Whittier to be close to family. He sold his home and had funds in the bank, but not strong credit or income (less than 3X rent). I contacted Whittier Brokers on his behalf, since several properties he liked were listed by them. They made it appear he could qualify for an apartment if he used co-applicants. He paid the $90 ($30X3 applicants) and turned in the applications. When I called to apply for an apartment, I was told by Whittier Brokers that he could not even apply because he didn't make the 3X income requirement, despite using co-applicants as they suggested. Funds in the bank could not used as income. So basically they got $90 for not being upfront about the application process. They should have just told us straight out he did not qualify for 99% of their listings and the co-applicants would not help him get a place. Waste of time and money. My relative went on to get approved at a big and very nice complex with his income/funds alone. read more
