Ive been ordering about a half cord of almond wood monthly from Whitt's for almost 2 years now; for my pizza business. Im pretty impressed all around. Tim gets my order taken and delivery scheduled, sometimes with short lead times. He always gets me wood, never fail. The delivery driver that drops off and stacks is efficient and friendly. I try and tip him and a partner sometimes and he is appreciative. I get some of the wood double cut, a bag or two of kindling and have had good outcomes and needs / concerns met when they arise. Well this place pissed me off, was just here about ten minutes ago so this is a fresh review. Called earlier this morning to ask about picking up some wood for camping. Representative on the phone tells me that they've got 40 lbs bundles of almond wood, and because they have a lot at the moment, the 40 lbs of wood would cost $15. I drive over to pick it up, and I tell the employee at the location of the above, and would love to purchase 40 lbs. He says he has no idea what I'm talking about, I explain to him that I talked to someone on the phone, and he says "that person takes calls from home and has no idea what he's talking about. You can buy a bag for $15 each." Annoyed, bought 2 bags since I had driven all the way there and didn't expect to get absolutely shafted once driving all the way there? Save your time and go to a different wood yard - there are locations in Marina and south bay. Weird and really uncomfortable interaction. read more

The wood is the best in-town. Service couldn't be better. The owner goes out of his way to help. My truck broke down on his lot. I was treated like family and the owner followed the truck home, once I got it started, to make sure I made it and they delivered the wood immediately. Whitt's has a great selection of woods for my smoker. I had always wanted to try smoking on pecan and apple wood and they carry both--in fact, this may be the only woodyard in the area that has pecan. Both the apple and pecan woods were well seasoned, so they were ready to be used in the smoker without having to let them sit for 6 months to a year. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Just bought firewood here again after frequenting another place for about 2 years, mostly because it was a little bit closer. I'm not going back to the other place. Ever. The prices here are more than reasonable, the amounts you get are generous, they are both friendly and helpful - AND they take credit cards (although I paid cash this time). $30 for "half a cart" of Walnut, vs. $50 for roughly the same amount of Almond at the other place - pulse a free dose of friendliness (vs an extra-large dose of surliness at the other place )! read more

They're very nice and helpful on the phone. They'll begrudgingly split wood into a reasonable size for a fire pit. The prices are great -- far less than the bags at the grocery store, for far more wood. But the wood is wet. Yeah, it had rained the day before. But firewood takes several months to season -- to dry out enough to be good for burning cleanly. So they have to have some procedure in place for the occasional time it rains in LA (mostly winter, which is also when people want firewood). I mean, a few tarps and ropes would do it. But they don't. Or they didn't when I went there. So I've got a lot of high quality, inexpensive wood that sizzles and steams and smokes, but doesn't make a good fire. Bummer. read more

Cool little lumber yard in an otherwise very city-like area. I recommend braving the traffic and making your way here for any of your wood needs! First thing to note is how easy it is to come pick up some wood. The workers are tremendously helpful and can advise you on the best woods for your needs. They even load all the wood into your car! The prices are a little better than store bought wood, but the quality of the wood is much much better. It also lasts longer in my fireplace by a considerable amount of time. I read that they also deliver wood so I might give that a try next time since I'm down in Venice. Definitely give these guys a try next time you need wood - no matter how little or much you need! read more

whitts is a rip off they sell you a facecord of wood for the price of a legit cord of wood. A cord of wood is 4'x4'x8'. BIG RIP OFF WHITTS

THIS PLACE IS A TOTAL RIP OFF!!! I'm surprised this has such a good rating on yelp when they charge more than 100% more for their wood than other places in town, such as All Cities Firewood. Also, if you want it delivered, they claim that delivery is "free," but if you want them to actually put the wood anywhere other than just piled on your driveway, it's at least $15 extra. If funny, I drove past his place for years and wondered at all the stacked wood. Always so neat. Didn't have a fire pit until last year. Finally I had a chance to go there and buy some wood. I had been buying the wrapped wood at the grocery store; only a couple of times, but was working my way up to a bigger load. I went and they couldn't have been more nice.
