They have a jaw-dropping selection of flowers, trees, etc., and they are truly professional. The place can be somewhat intimidating at first, partly because it's so spacious and "serious," but I can't recommend it enough! Purchase here often, but was disappointed with the last batch of hydrangeas, which aren't cheap at $40 each. I purchased 5 plants and 3 look good while 2 completely died with the same gardening care. Seems wrong that they don't guarantee their plants or even give a discount if something fails to grow. Obviously they weren't healthy. read more

This is a wonderful resource for LA gardeners! If you like California native plants, they have a nice selection, at good prices. I arrived there near closing, and I picked out what I needed & paid right away (milkweed for my hungry monarch caterpillars!), but they still let me go and wander around just to see the place a bit, which was so nice of them. Lots of butterflies all over the place too - which just lent a magical air about the place. For sure I'll be back to outfit the rest of my garden! read more

I have made multiple trips to C&S Nursery and will be back again soon. The nursery is like Disneyland for plant lovers, filled with every conceivable kind of plant you might want for your landscape. It's huge! Although C&S has all the common trees/vines/shrubs/flowers in stock, every time I visit I see an unusual plant that I have to research (on the spot) and typically end up buying and taking home. Every single plant I've bought has done well in my garden, a testimony to the general health of the plants they sell, and not to my gardening abilities, which tend to be primitive and Darwinian. Finally: everyone who works there is friendly without being intrusive. I realize most of their customers are professionals, so I appreciate that the staff also tries hard to help the backyard gardeners who are buying just a few plants. read more

Great nursery used by landscape architects that is also open to the public. I've bought tons of plants from C&S. The variety is great, and they've all been healthy. They also supply soil amenders and fertilizers. The process simple: you walk through and pick up plants you want, a floating salesperson writes a sales ticket, and you go into the office to pay. If you have a lot of plants, just let the guys at the entrance know. They'll drive their vehicle with you to gather the plants. I've also gotten plenty of garden vegetables and herbs. The prices are cheaper than the home centers. Once you're done, they'll also help you load them into your car. read more

This place is surprisingly busy during COVID but I wanted to buy milkweed plants for my little caterpillars. I called several places around the area and this was the only place that carried them and were in stock. They also do not treat their milkweed plants with pesticides which is important to me. These milkweed plants also are super healthy and are more full of leaves than other milkweed plants I've seen being sold. Parking is across the street from the nursery. read more

An avid gardener, this nursery is my favorite. C&S is an odd mixture of professionals, moms with toddlers and the occasional housewife. Parking is awkward at first but everyone is helpful at directing you. Be prepared to walk. This place is huge compared to Armstrong's and has so much more to offer. You'll be walking through mud, climbing through plants while the guys who work there drive up in carts to offer help. Guessing it could be intimidating if you don't know plants. Look plants up! Learn! This could easily take half a day. So bring a hat, and your money. If you love plants, C&S should be top of your list. read more

I went here for milkweed & was assured it isn't treated with pesticide because "that defeats the purpose." Well, imagine my surprise when eating the milkweed caused my 5th-istar caterpillars to spit up! (A response monarch larvae have when exposed to pesticides.) Removing the C&S tropical milkweed and replacing it with healthy California native narrowleaf milkweed saved the caterpillars, but if I hadn't noticed the vomiting they would have been toast. I'm sure the nursery is not spraying the plants themselves & lying about it, I suspect they just do not realize that their wholesale grower is using systemic pesticides on their milkweed plants. But, tropical milkweed shouldn't be sold in CA anyway--its flowering schedule interferes with monarch migration. Butterfly scientists now recommend ONLY planting local, native species for monarch butterflies. If you're shopping for caterpillars/butterflies, skip this nursery! However I'm giving 3 stars because the other two plants I bought (both CA natives) are lovely and pleasing the native bees. If you just don't buy milkweed here, it's a great nursery. read more

I love that even though they are outdoors, all the staff is wearing a mask, and taking safety for all as a priority. Everyone is is nice, helpful, and very professional. Their plants are good quality, along with prices. Stop by, and check it out. Every time I go, it feels like a field trip. Grab a cart or have them shop with you in a golf cart. read more

This is my go to nursery for all my outdoor plants. They have fair prices and a great selection. Most of the staff are very knowledgeable and the service if very good. If you can visit during the middle of the week you may not have to wait as with the weekends this place does get quite busy. Chris is the owner and if you have a technical question he is usually the one to go to. This place kicks butt on Home Depot or Lowes. Check prices before going to this place, because they are easily 50% above other nurseries... On top, their staff can care less of you and your needs... Easy parking, and big inventory though... Last time, I was researching/asking for a plant that was out of season, they had a few, but wanted a higher price than when they were blooming and beautiful. read more

Hands down, best nursery in LA. Wide selection of every type of outdoor plant you could think of (and then some!). If you want something they dont have in stock, they can get it for you, quickly. We have been going to C&S for a while. There was a specific groundcover we were looking for and couldn't find anywhere else. They had it. They have everything you can imagine and some. Their quality is great. Staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They will line your car with plastic and load your purchases into it. I did the rounds of the local nurseries looking for something to replace some plants next to my front door. Other places recommended on Yelp were very nice but nothing really caught my eye. This place is a hidden gem! A very-large selection of outdoor plants including succulents of all sizes, drought-tolerant, grasses, trees, and everything else you can imagine at reasonable prices. You could spend a few hours just wandering around so if you're looking for something specific, it's best to grab one of the guys (usually wearing hats) and they'll drive you around in a cart to the area you're looking for. Service is knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. Pricing can be occasionally confusing as sometimes there are no tags/prices on plants. Usually, the person helping you pull plants will tally up all of them on a slip which you will bring to the cash register near the entrance to check-out. They'll also help you load your car and provide plastic if needed. There's always available free parking along the road near the entrance but there is no parking lot. I believe if you need to, they let you drive onto the grounds. They also sell mulch and fertilizer and offer delivery. C&S was our primary nursery while we were DIY landscaping our home. Only downside is that they do not offer any guarantees on plants like the big box stores/nurseries. read more

They used to be good, but not anymore. Recently bought some ground cover plants for my gardener to put in. Mistake number 1: I asked the staff members how often to water the plants... There staff is not too knowledgeable...staff told me not to water them more than 3 times within a week. I followed the watering direction, but within one week 4 out of the 6 plants where dead. These were the same 4 plants that already looked not as good as the other 2 when I bought them, but since I needed more than 2 trays I talked myself into getting those as well. Really shame on me. C&S refused to take them back or replace them. Guess what? I'm taking my business elsewhere. Have sent quite a few customers their way in the past, but no more. read more
