I've tried just about everything for my chronic pain issues over the years, but have never found any real relief. I saw Brendan for the 10 step series. The series works on a different body section each time. There a certain parameters to each session but Brendan personalized them to my needs. I feel much better having completed the series. Did it cure all of my problems? No. But it was a great help and I plan to see Brendan again once the series has sunk in for a few sessions specific to my issues. It does hurt a little but discuss with Brendan so he can work to your level of tolerance. It isn't helpful if you are tensing your whole body and gritting your teeth. I really thought Rolfing would be painful. Brendan explained that it is used to improve posture, relieve chronic pain and reduce stress. Considering the amount of stress coursing through my body, I got myself all geared up and expected that I would need to bite down on a leather strap as I endured the treatment....but to my surprise, it wasn't painful at all! With his knowledge of the human body's muscles and fascia, this guy made major changes in my body's alignment. I dig the fact that he also kept me corfortable and informed; he explained that fascia is connective tissue that forms beneath the skin to attach, stabilize, enclose AND separate muscles and other internal organs. Fascia...its so awesome. As a Rolfer a.k.a. Structural Integrationist, you have to advance and learn new skills on a regular basis. I had a really great Rolfing experience with Brendan Gibbs of Whole Body Kinetics. I've gone through the whole Rolfing 10 Series plus a few extra sessions starting from February to June. Brendan was very accommodating to my busy work/life schedule. I normally work on my computer all day and as a result, my posture has suffered over the years. I would feel pain just sitting, walking, standing, and I have upper traps and neck strain. I searched online for therapies that considers the whole body structure into account rather than only focusing on pain areas. I found Rolfing YT videos and online explanations about the 10 sessions before I made an appointment with Brendan. The experience itself is therapeutic but can be challenging on the body. I felt sore during and after sessions as my body was adjusting. After each session I recorded what I experienced and noted improvements. In addition, Brendan is always answering any questions I have, sharing tips, and educating me about what we're working on in each session. I highly recommend the experience for a load of postural improvements and it's very motivating to me mentally. My standing posture, sitting, and walking posture, my range of motion, and my chronic pain has greatly improved. I feel that it is a long lasting change. I barely experience lower back pain as well. I've done a lot of different kinds of bodywork over the years. I came to Brendan after some neck stiffness, hip and ankle pain were getting worse, and massage and chiropractor sessions had been alleviating but not providing the long term support I was looking for. I was drawn to the fact that Rolfing is really about balancing the body, reintegrating, and would work on the fascia level in a really holistic way. Brendon works on not only fixing posture and alignment (with rolfing) which is a game changer, but he is also a stickler for form and a very patient teacher when doing pilates. In the last 15 years, I have gone through the Rolfing 10 series twice with a few targeted sessions in between, working with three different Rolfers in 3 different states. Each time has been beneficial for me in terms of greater ease of motion, less chronic pain and better posture. Some Rolfing practitioners may just conduct the 10 series as a framework. Brendan targets the client's specific needs and issues while approaching healing your body as a system, with a focus on determining the root cause of underlying issues; combined with his intuition and experience in physical therapy to help each client with a specific individualized approach. Finally getting around to writing this review. I did the full 10 course series (plus a couple of extra). I finished in early November and have felt great. Brendan was great about explaining each session and making sure I knew what to expect. I am very active and have suffered several injuries through the years and wanted something to help get my body back to a healthier state. He really worked out some of my deep, chronic issues and I've felt that I've moved better in my activities since completing the Rolfing. I thought Brendan was very helpful and I would definitely recommend him. I plan to continue to go for touch ups occasionally - because like anything there is no magic cure and I somehow always manage to tweak something with all my physical activities and need someone to help put everything back into place. I came by Brendan's practice referred by a deep tissue masseuse. Unlike most Brendan clients I wasn't experiencing chronic pains, just your regular lower back tightness and whatnot. My real issue is congenital I was born with a cleft foot and have surgeries on my foot when I was four. Since then my right leg has been shorter, weaker and a lot stiffer than the other one. As I get older the mobility issues became more apparent and issues creeped up to my lower, middle back and shoulders. I wasn't sure what rolfing could do for me, but I gave it a try. Immediately I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of knowledge and care he puts on every session. He was able to assess my physical shortcomings and adapt the series to my needs. I trusted the process and lo and behold, after every session I was able to see and mostly feel little changes that compounded in having a more balanced posture and a better walk. I was really amazed he was able to do what several foot surgeons had told me had no fixing. Feeling my right leg and ankle gaining more flexibility after 40 years of stiffness was really something. I still have ways to go in relearning movement and keep this progress. But I'm extremely grateful for the doors that Brendan opened for me. read more

After 25+ years of decline, both hips replaced followed by several years of rehab, I began to get my life back. I still had issues in my feet, ankles, knees, back, neck, arms and shoulders. I was looking for the next step in my healing process when a friend told me about Brendan and structural integration. I was impressed with her results tho was extremely resistant to Rolfing. She took me to hear Brendan speak about his work and I loved the whole body approach he described. I drilled him about all my questions about rolfing and the pain I thought went along with it. He answered all my questions with openness and understanding and we agreed to start working together on a trial basis. A 10 series plus 2 extra sessions, numerous Pilates sessions and several maintenance sessions later, I'm writing this review. Along with reduced pain, improved range of motion in all the above mentioned areas, I've also lost my fear of falling as my balance has improved greatly. Brendan is extremely knowledgeable about the body and how his work improves movement and function. He also knows his limitations and I appreciate the boundaries and referrals he's made for issues beyond the scope of his expertise. The most important aspect of our work together is communication. I was having major issues with hip flexibility. I work out 5-6 times a week and was having trouble warming up, was very sore and mobility was getting to be an issue -- especially after sitting awhile. Finished the 10 series and pain / stiffness completely gone, body feels transformed. I am able to work out as before. Structural Integration was the right answer to realign and rebalance my body. I am thrilled with Brendan's guidance and knowledgeable approach to this therapy. In each session he was informative about the transitions that I would experience and setting expectations on how my body would adapt. For many years I had received chiropractic care that was beneficial but on going. I found Brendan's structural integration addressed the muscular alignment that I needed to rebalance my spine and 3 months after completing my Rolfing series, I have not needed a chiropractic adjustment. I also had a twenty-year-old foot injury that changed the way I walked. I've noticed marked improvement in my gait and movement now that Brendan targeted manipulation to that foot.
